Vincent is an amazing piano technician and tuner. He came out to my place in Union City, NJ to tune my upright Monarch by Baldwin and do piano technician stuff. He was great and explained a lot about the piano mechanics and care. I guess he's been tuning pianos for 38 years? He is really really amazing and will come out for piano tuning to pretty much anywhere in Northern New Jersey - he's based out of Paramus area. When I caled him he was tuning a Steinway in Tenafly but he said he could come out my way in the next few days. He caught a lot of problems with the piano I have while he was tuning it. I am a professional singer and voice teacher (and sometimes I am a piano teacher but not often). He quickly told me how much the repairs would be on the instrument and I decided to do a few, but some he advised were not worth it given that my piano is not a very expensive instrument. In other words he turned away money to give me honest advice. I'm thinking of buying a new piano soon, though, so I might see about upgrading to a better instrument. The great thing abut a piano tuner who's been around forever like Vincent is they go around to lots of places (churches, music schools, private homes, etc) and hear about pianos for sale and know about their history and stuff so if you are buying a piano, sometimes a really great ppiano tuner can tell you where to buy a piano in the area. Anyway, Vince did a terrific job on the piano - he's a great piano technician, trained at Steinway piano tuning school, and is in the Piano Technician's Guild in New Jersey. He has perfect pitch and spent so much time on my piano, it was really great. I wish I knew about him when my 2 different students needed a piano tuner in Bergen County - one in Anglewood Cliffs (they moved to Leonia) and one in Ridgewood NJ. Next time! read more

We're so happy to have found a new piano tuner for our Steinway Model B! Vince was extremely thorough and in addition to tuning our piano extremely well, he was able to eliminate all of our unwanted noise (dampers, slight rattles, etc). Vincent is truly a miracle worker. He has good communication and did excellent work. I underestimated the work needed on my cable Nelson upright piano but he was able to fix everything patiently and...boy what a difference he has made! The piano not only sounds good, the key feels more responsive than ever. My piano had been tuned before but it had never played so well since we bought it. It is so much more fun and satisfying to play again. His costs are also fair and reasonable despite the amount of extra work involved (took him more than 2 hours). I was genuinely disappointed with the tuning services I got with Vincent Maccaro. I was recommended to him by Steinway and Sons, and I am a piano teacher. I have had my two grand pianos for 42 years, have had them tuned in Los Angeles, Cleveland, Houston, and now New Jersey with varying climates and humidity levels. The pianos were out of tune as soon as he left. I thought perhaps the pianos needed to settle into their tuning, but it became apparent that they were not tuned properly almost immediately. I was just going to get them re tuned by another tuner, not wanting him to waste my time or money again, but was encouraged to call him and see if he would look at the pianos and make some adjustments, so I called him. What a mistake! He acted as if I didn't know my pianos or the effect weather has on pianos. He kept arguing with me even after I told him I did not want to argue, I would just hire another tuner. He continued to argue to what ends? He just left me upset and didn't treat me with any kind of respect or consideration. I am no stranger to pianos, tunings, or the effect climate/rain/humidity has on pianos. He obviously had no idea how to tune my grand pianos. read more
