We dropped off our dog Leo at 7 am for a grooming appointment. After hours with no update, we returned around 11 am. When we arrived, two groomers were examining him and said he wasn't ready yet. A few minutes later, one of them mentioned something might've gotten into his eye. They had tried flushing it, but he still wouldn't open it. Leo was then taken to the adjoining veterinary clinic for an exam. The vet used a green dye test and found that his cornea had been burned. After reviewing the grooming products used, she discovered that one of them wasn't water-based and should never have been used near the eyes. Leo was prescribed several medications to treat the injury. This experience has been heartbreaking. Leo is not just a pet--he's a cherished member of our family. Seeing him in pain and knowing this could have been prevented has been devastating. We're sharing this to help other pet owners make informed decisions and to raise awareness about the risks involved. Please be cautious when choosing grooming services. We wouldn't wish this on anyone.

I let them know that my dog was matted, and they shaved him down so that you can see some pink. The clippers they used made him inch and he had sores on parts of his body. Sometimes, there was never an issue with Petco in the area. The picture you see was his last grooming at Petco. I may go back to Bowie, but they need to work on customer service. The young lady stated the temperament testing was free, (I learned this was not true once I got there and signed my pup up for the day). (FIRST NEGATIVE) Prior to leaving, I had my own water bowl and water for my pup. The young lady said, oh no, we provide water for your dog. ALL OF THE DOGS DRINK OUT OF THE SAME BOWL. (I knew I should have gotten my dog and left then but I didn't). (SECOND NEGATIVE) At the conclusion of the testing, they are suppose to provide a physical report card of how well your pup did. Fast forward to the pickup. When they brought my pup out, he did not look like how I dropped him off (I'm not complaining about this because he was playing with other dogs.) BUT, he smelled like the other dogs ganged up on him and dumped urine all over him. Ohhh goodness, he was a stinky mess. I did not inquire about this, which I should have. (THIRD NEGATIVE). When I asked for the report card, the young lady goes, "oh I'm sorry, he doesn't have one because there were a lot of dogs today." REALLY?!? But you took my money with no problem. (FOURTH NEGATIVE) The moral to this story, there are too many negatives for the initial consultation so I will pass.

When we picked our dog up around 12:30 in the afternoon, he immediately ran outside and urinated for several minutes straight, followed by urgently needing to relieve himself again for a bowel movement. As longtime dog owners, we know our dog's routine very well. He is walked every morning and evening, and if he has truly been taken on a "mile walk," he absolutely would have relieved himself during that time. Concerned, I went back inside and asked staff when he had last been taken out. I was told he had gone on a mile walk at 10:30 a.m. However, based on our dog's condition and behavior upon pickup, that explanation simply did not align with reality. What troubled me most was not just the possibility that our dog may not have been properly walked or given adequate bathroom breaks, but the feeling that we were not being told the truth. Any boarding facility caring for animals should prioritize honesty, transparency, and the wellbeing of pets in their care. I understand that boarding environments can be busy, and no facility is perfect. But leaving a dog visibly desperate to relieve itself after being picked up is unacceptable and heartbreaking for any pet owner to witness. I would strongly encourage other pet owners to ask detailed questions about potty break schedules, walks, supervision, and communication before boarding their pets here.

On 09/20/25, I dropped off three healthy dogs…read more On 09/22/25, I picked up two from the daycare, and one was fighting for his life in the emergency hospital. My dog required an emergency tracheostomy to survive due to their negligence, yet the facility continues to deny any wrongdoing. Their response has been nothing but denial, blame-shifting, and excuses. They claim it was "nobody's fault but the breeder," despite no such medical issue appearing in veterinary records or emergency reports. My dog now has a  hole in his throat and required a second surgery just to have a chance at quality of life. As an overnight facility, they should understand the fragile nature of brachycephalic dogs. If they cannot properly care for them, they should not accept these dogs at all. Their denial and misrepresentation show a dangerous lack of understanding and accountability. Dogwood Acres claims my dog was outside only "9 minutes" on a "68-degree, breezy day." If true, how did he collapse into a life-threatening brachycephalic crisis that cost me $17,000 to save his life? There are no cameras, no accountability, and no answers, only excuses. They clearly left my dogs out in the heat for too long with no proper care! This facility is reckless, unsafe, and untrustworthy. They nearly killed my dog. Avoid Dogwood Acres at all costs.

Our very first interaction was great...his energy was wonderful...he did not disappoint! He was very methodical with his approach...explaining every step of the process...very engaging...constant updates of the Boyz progress...videos, photos...wait! The photos that I received were Ahhhhhhh-mazing, I mean impressive...only to learn that he's a photographer as well...but I digress. The Boyz are spoiled and I have no shame in stating this...*smile*. But they needed to learn manners. I have two large and very strong Standard Poodles - Mr. Brown and Max. They're extremely smart, pretty obedient in the house, but a huge challenge on walks...my poor dog walker. I wanted to be able to take them anywhere without the extended conversations of sit, stay, what are you doing? you know better... etc. At any rate, I'd been following OLK9 Maryland for some time online. I knew that training for two dogs was going to be a budget buster. Thankfully, I was able to take advantage of the "Black Friday" or "Cyber Monday" (can't remember which one it was). I cannot say enough about the great experience I had...the Boyz were happy to see Craig each day which was a HUGE relief for me. Yes, additional work/training on my part is required...to me that's a no brainer. As a responsible pet owner, I want to make sure that there is consistency and an expectation that my Boyz are well behaved and well mannered. Which means I have to do the work. I wasted over $1,000 to unknowingly abuse my dog through Off Leash K9. I sought help because my dog…read morewas reactive toward other dogs, loud vehicles, and people. I was desperate to help my dog and myself and Off Leash K9 had good reviews. What these folks didn't tell me was that my dog's reactivity, what I thought was outright aggression, was actually fear - that she was scared of all of these things and trying to protect herself from them. So with the use of the e-collar (really just a shock collar let's be honest), I punished her every time she showed a fear response at Off Leash K-9's direction. This definitely changed her behavior, but rather than helping her feel more comfortable with the things that scared her, we instead punished her for being afraid and taught her to hide her fear responses. I wish I had looked at the science behind dog behavior, because I now know research shows that punishment through things like e-collars, buzz collars, spray bottles, etc. are incredibly counterproductive to changing dog behavior long term and they seriously traumatize the dog. I'm so very grateful to have met a Fear Free trainer who taught me about positive reinforcement. It has improved my relationship with my dog immensely and it has ultimately lead to the sustained behavior change I was looking for. Please do not waste your money on abusive, ignorant training through Off Leash K9.
