I'm writing this review to share a very upsetting experience we had with the grooming service at PetSmart in Bowie on September 6, 2025. We dropped off our dog Leo at 7 am for a grooming appointment. After hours with no update, we returned around 11 am. When we arrived, two groomers were examining him and said he wasn't ready yet. A few minutes later, one of them mentioned something might've gotten into his eye. They had tried flushing it, but he still wouldn't open it. Leo was then taken to the adjoining veterinary clinic for an exam. The vet used a green dye test and found that his cornea had been burned. After reviewing the grooming products used, she discovered that one of them wasn't water-based and should never have been used near the eyes. Leo was prescribed several medications to treat the injury. This experience has been heartbreaking. Leo is not just a pet--he's a cherished member of our family. Seeing him in pain and knowing this could have been prevented has been devastating. We're sharing this to help other pet owners make informed decisions and to raise awareness about the risks involved. Please be cautious when choosing grooming services. We wouldn't wish this on anyone. read more

My dog who has been at this groomer and taken care very well by Dee , Tenisha for years ,has been denied services by Melissa and the manager. Their reason is she can t stand , and her legs were shaken bc she was scared . Who has a dog who is not scared going to a groomer? Anyway I took her to another groomer who did a wonderful job and was happy to have her and willing to keep her as customer. So nothing was wrong with my dog Melissa!!! read more

Came in here to grab my four legged freeloader some items we needed. You know how you become numb to the thought of buying such items because you just are so used to buying them. I never realized how spoiled my cat is until I am in a pet store and I end up spending more than I am aware of. I did a quick once around in here and was so tempted in buying items that I had no right to buy in the first place. What I should have been looking for was the cat litter I was here for. But no, I end up looking at the holiday collars and toys I know she will not play with. I even picked up some spray catnip. In the end, I walked out without the cat litter, but with items that made me happy more so than my cat. PetSmart has become my go to store when it comes to pet supplies. read more

MelIssa groomed my Maltese. We had a conversation regarding how I would like his haircut. when picked him u.p I didn't even recognize my puppy. She chopped his haircut us so bad my dog looked scary cold and afraid. DO NOT USE MELISSA. SHE SHOULD BE FIRED I WILL BE CONTACTING CORP AS WELL read more

We took Santa photos and never received the email. We went back to the store and she resent the email. Still have not received the email. It's so ridiculous. It works and is a place for reptile lights. Lately there's been a shortage, but have had some luck here. The two knuckleheads aka serpents appreciate this. As for other animals, it looks like they have a lot of selections. These stores are huge. On a plus note they are well organized. It can be busy. Definitely be careful parking. As for the employees they are fantastic. They've always seemed to be very helpful. There are also pets here, that seem well taken care of. Thank you Petsmart for not selling cats or dogs. This location is in a central position and has a large parking lot with ample parking spots. The aisles are always well stocked, and they have so many items for selection. There is a training center at the middle of the store. They have grooming, veterinary services, and an adoption area to view cats. I have not used any of these services. The store is always clean and the staff are pleasant. I love looking at all the fish, birds, and rodent selection. They have a large selection of collars, harnesses, and leashes. There never seems to be a line at check out. During the holidays, they have great holiday selection of holiday gear and treats. They also have pictures with Santa during the weekend. You can bring your pet into the store to walk around and that's probably my favorite part. read more

The customer service here is terrible. For me that outweighs everything else at an establishment. I wasn't worried about the services that my dog received; she only received a bath. The poor customer services specifically came from the TT within the grooming services. She lacks communication and customer service skills. Her tone is indifferent, she shrugs her shoulders, and walks away instead of trying to listen and understand. TT is rude to say the least. I really didn't appreciate her attitude. Additionally, the grooming services supervisor clearly doesn't understand customer recovery, and only said "oh I'm sorry you feel that way, well your dog had a great time here." I'll go back to the Largo location where the staff is competent, kind, and very skilled at grooming. read more

Petsmart in Bowie is great. I find the staff to be super helpful and the grooming salon to be awesome and very accommodating. Everything from dog food suggestions to putting on those tricky harnesses- Petsmart Bowie is on point. read more

If you're looking to have your cat groomed here, proceed with caution. From my experience I found that the groomers do not want to bathe cats and will find every excuse in the book to make sure they don't bathe a cat.When I picked my cat up and was told she wasn't enjoying the bath so they used some waterless shampoo cleanser that I can buy in the store for the fraction of the price of the grooming fee . The waterless cleanser left her coat dull, sticky and smelled like perfume. I had to take her home and give her another bath. I called the store and the manager did make it right. But I will not return to this store for grooming. Also, my cat was shaken up by the experience and I regret taking her here. read more

I have been using this grooming service for years. My youth. My usual person who was not available was not available and was not able to groom my dog this time. The intake person told me it would take 3 to 4 hours which is normally what it takes when I leave my dog. This time it only took 55 minutes and when I picked up my dog it looked like he had not been groomed. Since I already paid I was a little annoyed and not to mention very mad. I can wash my own dog and keep the $54! He didn't even look like he had been serviced! read more

Those who know me know how much I love my fury son, Santana. For the last 13 years I have trusted Santana's vet care with Banfield and his grooming with PetSmart. This past Tuesday, Santana had an 7:00 am grooming appointment at the PetSmart in Bowie, MD. The appointment was made online 3 weeks prior and on Sunday, I received a reminder email and was able to pre-check him in. At no point while I was booking the appointment or completing the pre-check form was I informed that his rabies vaccine info was not up today. The first time that I was made aware of that was when I arrived for the appointment at 7:00 am on Tuesday and tried to check him in. The young woman at the desk said she couldn't check him in because his record wasn't up to date. Me: He has his updated rabies tag. PetSmart Employee: We're not allowed to use the tag. I need a printout. Me: He received his vaccine at Banfield PetSmart Employee: We're not allowed to call them now, you'll have to bring me a printout. Me: Can I leave him here while I walk over there to get the printout? (Thank goodness Banfield is located in the same building and opens early too.) PetSmart Employee: We're not allowed to touch them until all of their information is up to date. I walk over to Banfield and get the printout of his vaccines which shows that he received his latest rabies shot in March of this year. (BTW - he's been to PetSmart to be groomed since them. ‍) When I bring the printout back and she updates his record, she steps from behind the counter and begins to examine him and search for knotting and matting in his fur. (They do this all the time.) PetSmart Employee: His ears are matted. Me: I know. Just shave them down and let the hair grow back. (His hair is fine and is easily matted if it gets wet and is really long.) PetSmart Employee: We're not allowed to deal with matting. Me: So you won't be able to do anything with the fur on his ears? PetSmart Employee: We're not allowed to do anything if they have matting. I can't even give him a bath. Me: Are you telling me that he won't be able to get groomed today? PetSmart Employee: I'm sorry, no. Me: Okay, I'll have to get someone else to shave his ears, when can I bring him in to get groomed? PetSmart Employee: The first available appointment is August 24th. (Mind you, this was on August 2nd and he was already looking like a stray. ) Me: Make that appointment, but I pray that I don't have to keep it, because I need to find someone else to groom him before then. I walk back over to Banfield and ask if they can shave his hair for me? The lady at the front desk said that she didn't have any open appointments for that day and the first available appointment was at the end of the month. (Remember, this is August 2nd. ) By this time, I'm practically in tears. She searches the computer for a few more minutes, then she tells me to wait a minute and went to the back. She returns with another woman who approaches and ask me what was going on. I tell her that PetSmart will not groom him because the hair on his ears are matted and I need someone to shave them. She says to me, "so if I shave his ears, they will groom him?". I tell her I'm not sure now, because they had already canceled his appointment for that day and rescheduled for August 24th. She told me to go tell them that she is shaving his ears now and see if they will still take him. In the meantime she takes him in the back. I walk back over to PetSmart and ask if I can still keep the appointment because he was getting his ears shaved now (by this time, it's 7:30 am.). PetSmart Employee: Yes, I can take him as long as they can guarantee that he won't have any hematomas. ‍ I didn't even respond to that last part. I go back over to Banfield and the woman has already shaved his ears. (It didn't even take 5 minutes.) I thank her profusely and ask how much do I owe? The lady behind the desk said that she was trying to get him checked in so that she could bring up the charge. The lady who shaved him told her "don't bother" they weren't going to charge me for that. And she expressed her disgust with how PetSmart had given me the run around. I begin to cry and ask if I could hug her, I was so overwhelmed by her kindness. She say "yes, but don't make a pregnant lady cry." I told them both they would be blessed for the kindness that they showed me that day. At the end of this very long story, I was able to get him groomed that day. But needless to say, I will not be taking Santana back to PetSmart from grooming again! I understand that they have had some very public lawsuits lately, but the answer to that is not to give their customer less service and their clients (the animals), less care. read more

Recently moved to Bowie and was looking for a new groomer, so we took a chance on Petsmart, BIG MISTAKE!. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Took my miniature Schnauzer here for a breed specific hair cut. . Didn't have an appointment but Rebecca was able to fit me in last minute. I explained that I wanted his hair cut medium length. His beard was a little matted but with a little hard work with a brush, the tangled hair would come out, it always does. I left confidentially that he would be taken care of. When we returned to pick him, my wife and I were disgusted! While his body was groomed decently, he had absolutely NO BEARD! Anyone and everyone knows, Schnauzers have beards. Not only did Rebecca not call me to notify me that she was having a hard time getting out the matted hair, she NEVER called to tell me she was going to cut his bead completely off. This was absolutely UNACCEPTABLE! Not only does he now have no beard, he has cuts along his neck, ears and head that we have been treating. I didn't send my dog to get his haircut to come back the way he did. According to Rebecca, he gave her a hard time although his progress report that she wrote said he behaved good today at his appointment yet claimed my 12 pound dog tried to bite her. So how could he have behaved good but tried to bite you!?! Really?? I will be sending an email to corporate regarding my experience and my dogs health and haircut and warn anyone to find a professional groomer and AVOID PETSMART! read more

I was at a work related workshop nearby and saw the marquee for this store. I am a sucker for buying my pooch dog treats. Her vet my not be too happy with me, but moderation is key, right? What I like about PetSmart is the variety they offer. I like all natural treats, and for wet food, I am not as picky as long as it contains no meat by-product. I hate to think what the by-product is. With so many choices, there are always many brands on sale. I bought her a salmon bisque, which she loved, but two hours later.... I bought peanut butter cookie dough to bake at home. No weird stuff, just ingredients you would eat minus the sugar. The sales staff was helpful and it was easy to find someone on the floor to answer questions. read more

We sought end of life care for one of our four babies. The veterinarian and the technician were incredibly kind and empathetic, and made sure she was comfortable. I am truly thankful for the amazing care they provided during our time of need. They maintained COVID precautions while allowing us both to be present. read more

I definitely prefer Petsmart over other pet supply places. The prices are reasonable and the selection is vast. This particular one has dog training and a grooming and vet center, too. Your one stop shop for your pet needs. The staff has always been friendly and helpful and the place is always clean and orderly. I couldn't ask for more. read more

Last time I had my dog groomed, the groomer did not complete everything I asked and paid for; annoying but forgivable. Today my dog went for grooming not bleeding. When I got her home there was blood all over my car seat because they cut one of her nails too short; hurting my dog is not forgivable. Called manager and was told that they didn't tell me because it probably didn't bleed until she left PetSmart due to walking on pavement (like PetSmart floor is soft). My point is the groomer could have told me they injured her and to watch out for bleeding so I could have bought something to treat it while at store. Will be calling vet on Monday to check if reason for bleeding they gave me is true; if it is not will be contacting PetSmart HQ and also posting this review on every site I can find. read more

Ever see since my pup was 3 months old, I've been taking him to see Ms. Raven at this location. He loves her and is so excited when we walk up to the store for his groomers appt. He sees her every 3 to 4 weeks and she takes very good care of him. I HIGHLY recommend her and this location for grooming and shopping for your pet. read more

This Banfield is always behind schedule. They will give you an estimation of 1-3 hours and not complete services for 3-4 hours. Living in LE means that most of the time, you live 30 minutes away. If they are 1hr behind schedule that ruins your plans for the day. There needs to be a policy about if they miss their window the visit is free. This is ridiculous. read more

This time the same gentleman pointed us in the right direction but at checkout another gentleman was amazing at getting us an additional discount on a product in our cart. It truly makes a difference when I decide where to go because I have a PetCo closer to me in but it seems worth it to make the drive to Bowie. Keep up the good work guys!! read more

I love this Petsmart. I have my dog trained here. The trainer Emily is wonderful. The grooming salon is so on point. They always take us on time and my pup loves his groomer. I have nothing but positive experiences here. I had a horrible experience at the Largo Banfield so I still will not use that Banfield, but I've had great experiences at the Largo Petsmart store itself over the last few months. I shop there regularly and the staff knows my pup. They are kind, courteous and professional. read more

This is one of the better pet stores in the entire DC metro area and vicinity, and we've been to many. I've been going there for over 10 years, for cat supplies when I had cats (I don't now). We bought a parakeet and supplies there years ago and she's still fine. We bought a snake elsewhere but go to this store for those supplies. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The animals look very healthy, happy, and well cared for. Cages are clean. I like the more recent additions of scorpions and tarantulas. Please keep up the good work. read more

I come here to get my doghter groomed. I've come here about 5 times and each time my baby has come out looking like a completely different dog- in the best way! Everyone in the grooming department is super friendly and you can tell they really enjoy their job. When I dropped my dog off, one of the groomers was even giving one of the dogs kisses in the face (gross but hey they love their clients!). My groomer this time was Moriah. She was really sweet and happy to schedule me in at the last appointment time, even though they closed early, as it was Sunday. I ended up showing up before she actually called me (it was getting late so I decided to just be proactive and go back). My dog saw me and started freaking out, probably making her job a little harder. But she remained very nice and just said "it'll be a few more minutes!". She did a great job. She cut her hair exactly how I had asked. I've had different groomers each time I've come, and they all are very great groomers. I had really bad experiences: once at the Beltsville location where they shaved my entire dogs (face, ears, tail, everything!) and had my baby looking like a naked mole rat. Another was at the Silver Spring location where they shaved her face too short but left her body long, and she looked disproportioned (and in retaliation of me telling the manager and getting my service free, they tried to mark my dog as "do not groom" because they said she bit someone. Lies they tell. Just awful.) It's refreshing to knows that everyone here is very competent, and is able to provide versatility with each dogs cuts. Furthermore, their customer service is great! read more

The groomers are very professional. I take my yorkie and my Maine coon cat there and they always come out looking great and clean.

Marie is the best! I have been taking my doggie child there since she was a puppy. I do not trust her care with just anyone. I know she's in good hands with Marie and I also know she always comes out looking like a beauty! read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. TERRIBLE. I go in looking to buy a a dozen or so fish for the fishtank. No store employee in the area. I wait, figuring that someone would soon pass by. Nope. No such luck. They were all standing up front by the checkout yapping. So I asked one of them for help with the fish. I received a response that I would need to see Sarah and it was given with a dead blank stare. I then ask if you could help me find Sarah. The lady has her head phones on and tells Sarah to come to the fish area. I am eventually greeted by Czara with a blank stare. I inform her that I would like to buy some fish. She looked bothered by my presence. As I am speaking to her she proceeds too start talking into her head set to somone and not listening at all to me. I then point to the tank and say I would like "4 of these". There was only one species in the tank. She says "which kind". I point to the tank again. She says "which ones". Well, Czara, I would prefer the ones that were still swimming and not the ones that were floating on the top. The attitude got worse from her. I simply wanted her to dip her little net into the tank, get me some live fish, and let me get out of there in a reasonable time. Instead, Czara with the headset acted as if she was the head of NASA and had more important things to tend to with whomever she was listening to in her head. I had no choice but to walk out. Petsmart lost a $100 sale today but I am sure Czara or nobody else there really cares. Customer Service just plain stinks nowadays. read more

Not happy! Grooming staff cut my dogs ear and said nothing when I picked him up.

They cancelled our appointment 3 days prior and told us wed have to wait 3 weeks for the next available appointment. It very difficult to find a vet now that will take new clients and this was very frustrating. read more

I walked into the grooming side on one weekend and asked to make an appointment for my 2 dogs which have never been groomed before, the woman who was helping me was named Jenna and just seemed very rude. She would stop me in the middle of a sentence when I would try and explain to her what I wanted my dogs to look like, I'm very careful with my dogs and care for them deeply so her attitude just didn't give me the good vibe to go through with the appointments. I called on a Thursday to cancel the appointments and the woman who answered said she would take care of it. It is Saturday morning and I get a rude voicemail from Jenna stating that my dogs had an appointment. I called back and explained to her that I had called on Thursday to cancel and she rudely "thanked" me and hung up. Do your dogs a favor and do not get them groomed with Jenna. read more

Usually love PetSmart. Took my pup in for a grooming. Left with my baby needing three or four stitches because they cut her right on her belly. Then upon calling to see if she was ready, they didn't even tell us the entirety of what happened. Once I reached the store, she was woozy from the drugs (they had to put her under, apparently.), she has a bandage on her front leg from where the IV was, and she had a cone on. It was a sad sight to see. while they didn't charge for the grooming, it wasn't worth seeing my baby in a cone and giving her meds for two weeks. Needless to say, I'll be taking my little Ginger elsewhere from now on. read more

Really great store with a good selection. They really care about pets! I was helped by a young lady who helped me find everything I needed for my new kitten, Buttons. :) The cashier lady was very pleasant, too and said hi to me when I came in. I come here about every three weeks to stock up on food and will continue to shop here. read more

So I bought a medium algae eater,Calico Ryukin and a mystery snail the Ryukin and snail didnt cause me any problems but the algae eater died with in hours of me getting it. I went back to exchange and the entire tank of algae eaters was suddenly gone.Needless to say I assume all the fish were sick and were removed.So I settled for a small fish after getting it home and having it for a few days my entire tank has ick.Im currently trying to save my whole tank that has been established for years without any problems. read more

Do not! I repeat, do not use the women's bathroom here. I visited on 12/24/15 and had to use the restroom. It was disgusting!!!! There was toilet tissue everywhere. The toilets hadn't been flushed. The sanitary napkin disposal was so full it was overflowing. I wanted to vomit. I decided to hold it until I got home. There was no way I was using that bathroom. read more

Very happy with grooming. My dog, a lhasa apso went in looking a lil crazy. It was totally my fault after not grooming regularly. Well they were fast (about 2 hours) and he looked absolutely perfect--like a designer pup. The groomer was friendly. This was my 3rd time and I will be back. read more
