Me and my band drove an hour to play there, my grandparents paid us to play there so the owner could get a taste if they want us to play again. During our sound check we were told to turn the music down once, then the Owner comes out and tells us it needs to be 50% Quieter, our sound man said there's only so much the equipment can do, to which the owner responded "No, you don't need to play here, we're doing you a service having here, you don't need to be here so turn down or don't play" we ended up playing significantly quieter, and the owner left immediately after we started so it didn't matter! We also received no complaints from the manager or customers, we were outside too! He was needlessly disrespectful and dismissive of us, and as an owner who very frequently has live music, that's something you need to develop an understanding for. Wouldn't come here if you're a musician or have to do any kind of work for the stubborn and rude owner. read more

We started with the $5 tasting experience. Totally worth it. You get the history of the winery and get to taste 5 wines of your choice. It allowed me to purchase a white and red I knew we would enjoy later. You then stand in line to order your food. We started with a meatball and breadsticks appetizer followed shortly with the beet salad. Both were delicious. The meat balls were steaming hot. The breadsticks were more like fresh parm cheese bread. Both were delicious. The meatballs were in a nice flavorful tomato sauce to add to your meal. We chose a build your own pizza choosing pepperoni, sausage and black olives. The pizza was wood fire cooked so thin with nice crisp edges. So good. There is a lovely covered patio to enjoy the green vines and farmland. Staff brings your ordered food to your table. The staff was friendly and quick with all that was ordered as well as wonderful about clearing off dishes as we finished. Such a great experience! Can't wait to try my new wines. read more

We came here after having worked up quite the appetite skiing at Nordic mountain. The ambiance was amazing! Great music, nice decor, a fireplace to sit by...yes, please! My husband and I did the wine tasting. $5 for 5 pours. Kids got sprecher rootbeer on tap for $2 so they were happy! We enjoyed a bottle of the LaCrescent, a good white wine that was easy to drink. Food was available at 4:00 pm and we ordered a GF princess mushroom pizza, hummus plate with beets and caramel apple strudel dessert. Everything was delicious! Found out about this spot from a flyer at our hotel in Fond du Lac. Very easy drive from there to just outside Ripon - about 30 minutes. Easy to find and great spot to stop in for the afternoon. Enjoyed the tasting. Bonus was tasting the port and ice wine. While we didn't get to enjoy the brick oven pizza, they do have a variety of cheese and meat sticks for purchase to enjoy while you are tasting or with a glass of wine. read more

My boyfriend and I had come from Milwaukee up to the Green Lake area for our anniversary weekend. We went to this winery because it had been recommended by a family member. It was a really awesome experience. First of all, the wine tasting is only $5 to try five wines. You get to choose whichever five you want to try from their list. The portions are rather generous for a wine tasting, and the wines were all pretty good, in our opinions. As we tried the wines, the bartender explained what type of grape each wine was made of and how the wine got its name. They have a very strong commitment to locally sourcing their ingredients. All of their grapes are grown in Wisconsin, and as such, they specialize in making wine from grape varietals that are able to tolerate our cold climate. We were also informed that the ingredients for the pizzas are locally sourced, and that the artwork and decorations in the building were made by Wisconsin-based artists. After we tried the wines (and ordered some to take home with us) we went to the pizza kitchen to eat dinner. The pizzas were delicious and reasonably priced. They had lots of options for pizza toppings, and also allowed me to make a minor substitution on a specialty pizza to accommodate a dietary restriction. I would recommend this winery to anyone visiting Fond Du Lac County. If you don't drink alcohol, come for just the pizza; it'll still be worth your while. read more

Delicious wines. All grapes are locally-grown, which, is rare for a Wisconsin winery. Their atmosphere is great and often they have live music on the weekends. Try their wood-fired pizzas! We had to order three kinds because their topics were so unique: Pig in a Maze, Keep er' Movin, and Prairie Pothole. Each one was incredible! Plus, they use locally grown ingredients, most ingredients grown right at their own farm. If I had to give it one critique, it would be to get comfier chairs. But that's a stretch. A great place! Came here for birthday dinner and it was great! It's a fairly large sitting area and live music was set up in the corner - 'twas a Friday night - which was lovely. There are 6 free tastings of wine and the person who helped us was very knowledgeable. The wines were also pretty good which I know can be surprising for a vineyard in Wisconsin ;) There were also a few beers on tap. We ordered the Thai pizza and a white sauced chicken pizza (don't remember the name of it). And both were really delicious. Thai was my favorite. I felt like I was eating pad thai ;) It was on the spicy side and comes topped with a chili oil and it was recommended we get it on the side and are we glad we did! The oil is VERY spicy but also really good when dipping the pizza in it. The prices are decent with pizzas ranging from $9 and up and are served fairly quickly since it takes a short time to bake them in the wood fired brick oven which makes those pizzas nice and crisp! Service was excellent and very friendly! I needed a to go box but a small one to sneak into the movie theater so I could have a snack but they only had large boxes so she came up with an idea and gave the hubs a ziplock bag. Pretty much sealed up my love for the place ;) (You can also buy bottles of wine and other prepackaged food-y items like popcorn, jams, chocolates, etc). read more

The wines are very good, and their is a wide variety of them. The Ice wine was one of my favorites along with LaCrescent and Breanna. The lady who gave the wine tastings was very informed and helpful. They have live music and good wine, what else can you ask for? The only downfall of Vines & Rushes is that they don't have Charcuterie & the interior of the winery has a lot of potential that's not being taken advantage of. read more

Haven't been here in years, and was so happy to see how much the business has expanded! The big open dining hall was a great place to gather for our big group of 10. The staff was friendly, even though the place was really busy. The wine was great (love the Wiskonsan), but the pizza was really my favorite part of the experience. Their pizzas are a good size for two medium sized appetites, or one hungry person. Crust is thin in the middle and thicker but crispy/airy on the outside. We had the margherita, and also sampled the Princess Pie. Both were outstanding. My only suggestion would be to decrease the volume of the entertainment. Live music was great, but just too loud. The winery is on the right side as you're driving north from Ripon, just before you reach the Prellwitz produce. They offer free tastings on all their wine, from driest to sweetest. They aren't at the point yet where all their grapes come from their own vineyard, however they do all come from Wisconsin. They use the northern varietals such as Frontenac and Marquette, so it reminded me a lot of the wines I tried in Vermont. If you're expecting European or Californian varietals you're going to be disappointed. I rather liked all the wines I tried. I ended up purchasing the Frontenac sweet red, the Marquette Rosé, and Frontenac Gris semi-sweet white. My family generally prefers the sweeter wines, though I thought the Brianna was excellent as well. They do offer special tastings and events, such as cooking classes, live music and painting classes Unfortunately I couldn't make any of their events while I was there, but the "Chef's Tasting" where they paired food with their wines sounded really good. They said sometime in the summer an icewine may be available, and I was planning on stopping by again in July to check it out. read more

This was a fantastic winery! My friends and I were looking for something fun to do on a weekend and this was it! All of the workers are friendly, fun, and very helpful & kind. You can do 6 tastings for free, and the Saturday we were there, they had live music. The woman doing our tastings knew a lot about the wines, the grapes, and the process in which the wines were made, so although the average person may not care about how long their wine sat in an oak barrel, you know they have quality products and take the time to educate their workers so they can provide the best experience possible. It's a very upbeat and fun place to be! They also have artisan cheese, cute gifts, wine (obviously) and AMAZING pizza! We got the margherita and green goblin-both were FANTASTIC. I've been here twice while visiting my parents, and it's delightful way to spend part of an afternoon! The employees are friendly, knowledgable, and happy to answer any questions you have. The wines themselves have all been lovely, though my particular favorite is the Wiskonsan Strawberry and Sweet Grape wine. It takes like spring! Next time, I hope to give their pizzas a try, but if all you have time for is a tasting, you won't be disappointed. There's something for every palate! If only I could get my hands on a little more of that Wiskonsan without begging my parents to bring some out to me when they come visit me in MA! A total treat, and well worth your time. read more

It is unfortunate to put a good artist up (like Christopher Gold, Amelia Ford et all) and have it all drowned in the din of the shouted conversations. A friend and I came out for a recent tasting and musical afternoon, and it was pretty nice. They had free tastings of all their wines except the ice wine ($3 tasting fee), so we tried several each and then purchased a glass to enjoy while listening to the live music. They had a bunch of tables set up, so we could sit down comfortably, sip our wine, and chit chat, making for an enjoyable afternoon. The person helping us taste was helpful without being pretentious, and made some recommendations based on what we liked. I'd like to come back during the growing season and actually see the grapes! For using Wisconsin grown grapes they do a good job. The best wines I've tasted in Wisconsin use California grapes. I'm not a huge wine fan, but I do appreciate good alcohol, local flavor, and supporting area businesses, so when my mom's gardening club had one of their meetings at Vines & Rushes, I tagged along. I didn't even know there were any vineyards in this area (yeah, I know, I need to do more research), let alone ones that were producing their own wine, so it was nice to see a thriving little winery within an hour of my hometown. We were given samples of all of their different wines, from dry whites to sweet whites, and dry reds to sweet reds. Again, still working on cultivating a palate for wine, I wasn't a huge fan of most of the reds, but I did enjoy their Frontenac Gris and Brianna - both dry whites. Being with the gardening club, one of the owners (and president of the grape growers of Wisconsin) gave us an in-depth tour of their vineyards and explained every step of the grape-growing process starting with collecting the initial plants. They talked about how they raised each type of grape and how they ensured the plants' survivals, how they maintained proper growth through selective pruning, and how they helped dying plants rebuild from new shoots. It was all very thorough and interesting and I'd return to try their wines again once I further my experiences with wine. read more

I have been meaning to come here for ages since I first discovered that my hometown had a winery! What a wonderful experience and the service (thanks Kim) was impeccable! I bought several bottles and preserves and took them all the way back to California with me and now I have to plan my next trip home to buy more! As someone who has gone to multiple wineries in California, the fact that they do not charge for tastings is quite the selling point! After giving us one wine to taste we were left standing there while they poured several glasses for the people next to us and on the other side of us. This is a great little gem just outside of Ripon. Ryan is very knowledgable and dedicated to his wines. The commitment to only having Wisconsin grown grapes and keeping it demand oriented. If you are around Oshkosh or Fond du Lac, you have to stop here for some good wine that vary across the spectrum and a real treat of hard cider. read more
