Vinitus was recommended by our Airbnb host (a local), so we decided to check it out. The place gets pretty busy for dinner, we showed up right before 7pm on a Saturday night and were seated at one of two free tables; twenty minutes later and there was a queue for people waiting to eat. The tapas were served fairly quickly once we ordered our food. I had some of the patatas bravas and the honey-glazed cod. Both were really delicious and I would highly recommend it. The food was pretty good, but definitely on the pricier end considering portions. So, if you're on a budget I'd probably skip out, but if you're able/willing to splurge a bit -- definitely worth stopping by. read more

I know they're known for their seafood, but I almost forgot about that after a taste of their bread pudding. Because man if that's not a extraordinarily well-made dessert, then I don't know what is! As a dessert obsessed gal, this is all I could have asked for. 3eu got me a fried piece of bread with a creme brulee kind of pudding filling in the middle and a cracked sugar flambee thingy atop to cap it off. It was amazing and I wish I ordered more of their desserts since I knew they couldn't disappoint after that one. But the tummy only has so much room so maybe the next time around. And after that ode to the bread pudding, it's now time to talk about the seafood, which was also amazing by the way. If you're looking for tapa sized seafood plates this is the place to go and I'm telling you, all the dishes we ordered were soooo great and they included the cod with honey aioli, red shrimp, razor clams, and grilled veggies. The cod was on the sweeter side but went well with the aioli and smashed tomatoes, something I've never had while the other seafood dishes had a good smoky flavor. Lastly the grilled asparagus and mushrooms were refreshing and great to eat with me seafood. Service was very nice and they helped provide all the recos that made this experience so memorable! Without them I wouldn't have thought to order their bread pudding haha and for that I'm truly grateful. Like this place needs more reviews... We went out of our way to eat here twice in the limited time we had in Barcelona. For us, that says a lot! We like to go somewhere different every time, especially while traveling, but this was just too good to pass up! We talked about it every single day until we went back for seconds... It was packed when we came the first night at 10pm on a Saturday, but it only took them 20 minutes to find us a seat at the bar. The regular menu is provided in Catalan, Spanish and English, but the specials of the day are not. The wonderful ladies behind the bar helped us decipher the specials (they didn't have a copy in English they could give us). We ordered a whole host of things to try, including several montaditos, most of the dishes with foie in them, and the star of the evening (and maybe the entire trip!) - the Bacalao. If you haven't had Bacalao before, they way they do it here is flawlesly cooked codfish on a bed of what is basically sweet tomato/marinara jam and then covered with some sort of delightful thick bechamel-type white sauce (probably the honey allioli, browned to perfection on top). A rosemary sprig on top, also browned, is not to be skipped as garnish! It tastes divine with the meal, as well. We fell immediately head over heels in love. We started talking about moving to Barcelona and eating here every week, haha! My favorite of the montaditos we tried was a special of the day (maybe of the week, since they had it on the menu again 4 days later) - Sopressada. Unlike any soprassada sausage I have ever had before, this was a layer of what seemed to be the meat mashed up with some sort of sweet tomato mixture and topped with a perfectly sunny side up quail egg. Some sort of flaked salt on top sealed the deal. We ordered seconds here, too! A close second was the foie with apple compote montadito. Between this and the crunchy camembert, I couldn't even imagine wanting dessert after this meal. The foie sat on a bed of chunky apple sauce, on top of a toasted slice of baguette, on top of a smear of some sort of berry jam. Somewhere in there, salt was sprinkled. The combination was so heavenly I laughed out loud after the first bite! And while we're on that subject, the crunchy camembert is not to be missed! It's basically cheese on a stick, coated in crushed peanuts, resting on bread, covered with jam! Utterly delicious, even for my BF who didn't think he liked soft cheese like this before our trip! Success! We left so delighted and full, we couldn't stop smiling. It was an outrageously good experience, eating here. For the quality and price, we were amazed. Anything like this back home in LA for us would be easily twice as expensive, if not more, and almost assuredly not as fresh or accompanied by such a fun atmosphere. Great tapas place! All the tapas we had were amazing. My personal favorite was the fish with the cream sauce on top (I believe it was the codfish with honey aioli). Is there an option for 10 stars? this place was just fantastic. amazing. jaw dropping. this place was recommended by my airbnb host and i am SO glad he did because the food+ambiance were amazing and prices were extremely reasonable. went for dinner, there was a huge line, and so we decided to stand at the bar and order a 1 L pitcher of sangria as we waited patiently to be seated. -- the wait was about 35-45 minutes. we had NO idea what to order so we asked the waiter for his favorite recommendations and these were the ones: - CODFISH with honey "allioli" = holyyyyy moly. drool. i'd fly back to barcelona just to have this again. the combination of flavors is mouthwatering. - CALAMARI "Magala Style" = you may think.. 'why should i get calamari in spain when i can get that anywhere?'. well, don't think too much about it and just order it. the texture and flavors were just fantastic. - GAMBITA roja de playa plancha = aka shrimp with red sauce. it had a good kick to it but the the flavors just mixed so well. - capita de PULPO a la gallega = a little plate of octopus. delicious. overall, all the dishes we ordered were exceptional. we were going to choose the "assorted tapas" option on the menu but the waiter suggested we don't do it because they are not the top, most popular dishes. Our first server didn't speak English very well, so we had some communication issues, had to make a lot of guesses as we ordered our food because even though there was an English menu the daily specials were not in English. About halfway through service our server switched to a woman who spoke better English and was a bit more helpful as we ordered more food at the tail end of our meal. The first item we tried was really a shot in the dark for us. There was a plate on the table next to ours that looked like pasta with a pink sauce, and we thought it looked good but weren't sure what it actually was. I asked the girl at the table next to us, who didn't speak English, and she just pointed on the menu at what it was. It was listed as "Cabreaos" eggs style. Eggs? It didn't look like eggs. We asked our waiter and he said it was potatoes and eggs, and we were like, "um, ok, we guess we'll try it" really having no clue what was coming our way. We ordered these mystery eggs and potatoes, and this turned out to be one of my favorite dishes of the entire trip. For real. It was so simple, and yet it's probably the dish I think about most often, and want to try to recreate. It's basically french fries topped with the same sauces used for patatas bravas (a spicy tomato sauce, and a creamy and garlicky allioli), then topped with a fried egg. Our server sliced the egg table-side and then tossed it all together, mixing up the sauces and egg yolk into the best sauce ever for soaking your french fries. Our next dish came off the daily specials menu. Canelon de pollo "rustido" translates to cannelloni with roasted chicken. This was a single large cannelloni, which was quite flavorful and tasty. We were kind of craving pasta after thinking that dish we saw was pasta, and although it was only a few bites to share, it helped satisfy that pasta craving. The gambas al ajillo (shrimp/prawns with garlic) off the specials menu had much better flavor, and more seasoning with larger shrimp than the dish of the same name we had the first night of our trip. We definitely preferred this version, even though the other one had garlicky butter for dipping. We also had some langoustines. I asked if they would be without the shell, and he nodded but obviously didn't understand my questions because the langoustines were whole with their heads on. We were hoping to avoid the trouble of peeling them ourselves, but I sucked it up and got in there with my hands. They were excellent! So tender and juicy with a sweet and succulent flavor. We ordered some more food at this point. We had previously ordered the goat's cheese salad, which never arrived, so we re-ordered it again with our new server. It was good, but quite simple. It was still nice to have some veggies after all the carbs and meat earlier in our meal. We also ordered the Russian salad, which is apparently a popular tapas dish. I really had no idea. It too was good but didn't blow me away (I didn't expect it to--it's Russian salad). It was served with some pan con tomate, which you know we love. We also tried the "escalivada" with goat cheese. We asked our server what that was, and she said eggplant. Sounds good! It had an onion marmalade or something under the cheese which added some sweetness. This was a nice dish, a bit of a surprise as once again we really didn't know what to expect. Time for dessert! We tried the Burnt Saint Teresa torrija (bread pudding). It was soft and creamy inside with a brûléed top. Very decadent and satisfying. We also shared an order of the chocolate with "churros," which was also excellent with a more bittersweet ganache as the dipping chocolate, as opposed to the sweeter custard-style cup of chocolate the other day at Petritxol Xocoa. Even though there were some communication issues with our first server, and even the English menu had words we didn't understand, this turned out to be a really splendid meal! After trekking through the city and climbing up and down La Sagrada, Vinitus drew me in with the great yelp reviews and I only have more good things to say, but especially so to the wait staff. First off, their food is amazing. Flavorful and light. I ordered a mix of tapas and enjoyed the things that were given to me. There was this potato with ham and these small green peppers and seasoned shrimp. All were delicious. I was full, but not the kind that makes you want to crawl home and sleep. The five star rating goes to the wait staff though. They're the real mvps. All were very warm and welcoming. Upon arrival, the door was held for me and I was promptly seated. And midway through my tapas tasting, I saw a foreigner come up to the girl at the bar and speak very slowly to her in Spanish as if she didn't understand (since she was Asian) she did not react negatively and responded very politely. So this review is for that girl. It's the 21st century and it's not nice to think that she who works and lives in this city would not understand Spanish. Also five stars to my waiter who is very nice and attentive and I do not remember your name. But thank you!!! We passed this restaurant several times and no matter the hour of the day( but, particularly in the evening), the restaurant was packed! It was plain to see why - excellent food, reasonable prices, and good service. The food was tapas style and we particularly enjoyed the gambas and the eggplant chips (per the recommendation of staff). While we certainly ate our share of gambas at multiple restaurants, the ones at Vinitus have far and away been our favorite and the eggplant chips were something distinct that we had not had on any other rmenu. Vinitus seemed to be a common place for tourists and locals alike (although tourists seemed to be more of the crowd during the lunch and day-time hours). In the evenings, arrive early and put in your name as the crowd spilled on to the back patio. Fortunately, they had drinks in hand and the staff seemed to be quickly moving people through to open tables. We would certainly go back! read more

A friend recommended this restaurant as the best place for tapas in Barcelona. Because of its reputation, it was very crowded on a Saturday night, and the only open table for a party of five was in the basement, which was nice looking and well decorated. But prime real estate was sitting outside on the street, being a part of the lively street vibe. The food came quickly and was reasonably priced. This was my first dining experience in Barcelona. Though the waitress seemed brusque initially, she warmed up to us. This was also a wake-up call as to how much my Spanish language knowledge had deteriorated since high school. Nonetheless, with my broken Spanish, I was able to order and brought a smile upon the waitress when I ordered the bacalao with honey, which I can only assume was one of her favorites as she nodded approvingly and showed the dish off to the tourist table across the way before it made its way to us. I suppose I'll start with the bacalao. It's something I've wanted to try since hearing about it. Since it was salty, the honey toned it down and it came with a cream and tomato sauce. This was so delicious, rich and worth it. If you ever make your way to Vinitus, and there are a lot of wonderful food choices in Barcelona, try this dish. The ham and chicken croquettes were delicious but I expected nothing less. Flavorful, a perfect potato mash and a nice crisp exterior with a slight ham flavor...yum! The House Paella was done nicely but I found this to be too salty. It was filled with chicken and seafood and the flavor and texture of the rice was just on point. Speaking of too salty, the Calamari a la Romana was just that. But it was light and chewy and I found out that most seafood dishes err on the salty side in most establishments. Overall, I had a lovely lunch here- some items were on the pricier side but there was way more variety than I knew how to order. I saw the locals eating some interesting things as well as the popular eggs on fries. Guess I'll have to explore more next time! read more

Holy hell. This place really hit the nail on the head tapas-wise. Visited with my family and ordered a TON of stuff to share between the five of us. Everything had us going "wow" with each bite. The menu was dated, so I assume they have different selections each day. WHITE SANGRIA. Just do it. It packs a nice punch and is still sweet and easy to drink. DINNER - Tomato bread & jamón to start - Eggplant with honey (whoah what a surprisingly delightful dish!) - Shishitos - Grilled squid (my fave of the night! Simple, grilled with lemon juice/sauce) - Codfish with honey tomato glaze/sauce (another wow!) - Razor clams (so delish! I've never had these before, but great for all you seafood lovers) - Shrimp and squid skewers - Steak skewers (so soft! & it's served on a piece of bread that soaks up the juices) - Fried anchovy and calamari (not too salty not too bready--coating was good and not too oily) DESSERT - Creme brûlée - Bread pudding (a breaded wall with actual pudding in the center--not to sweet!) - Churros with chocoláte Ambiance and service were also 5/5! This meal was excellente- I am comfortable saying that it was the best meal of my life thus far. So great in fact that mid meal- my boyfriend and I began to plan a return trip before leaving Barcelona! The tapas are amazing- flavorful, complex, with the perfect amount of surprise and seasoning. I can't recall the specifics but we started with patatas bravas (perfecto) shrimp and squid, and patatas con hamon y egg (so buttery, flavorful and delicious) and tried several amazing courses until we got to dessert. My boyfriend had the bread pudding which had many layers of cream, crisp burnt sugar, and soft pastry puff while I had the triple chocolate. [This is an overdue review from May 2018. As the privilege to travel to foreign countries again presents itself, I have been looking back at past travels.] This was our first meal in Barcelona and it was a very good start. I was initially concerned about the masses of English-speaking folks out front of the restaurant because I thought that might indicate the place was a tourist-trap. I was mistaken. From my notes: "we had croquetas, sardines with eggplant and peppers, tortilla, vegetables with romesco, and cod with honey." This was an excellent introduction to some Spanish basics for my then-girlfriend (now fiancée). All the food was flavorful and the cod with honey was adventurous and rich. We finished off with torrijas, crème brûlée, and espresso. The torrijas were a game changer for me. As a Spanish-American, traditional desserts in my family were limited to flan or turrón. Vinitus' torrijas were a very custardy version of bread pudding or French toast and were so good that I was inspired to look recipes up when I got back home. read more

A MUST IF YOU VISIT Barcelona! The staff at the Renaissance where we stayed (which is close) recommended this place and they eat there themselves. We are there 3 times in 4.5 days!!! The food here is amazing! It is worth the wait. Everything is divine. You hear me? Went there twice on nights where the red crawfish rice special was served. It was outstanding. We can read Spanish but they do have an English menu. It is family friendly as we took the kids (my kids are adventurous eaters though). The patatas Bravas there are Spanish comfort food: hot, crispy and paired with a tangy sauce. The cod (bacalao con miel) was a pleasant surprise. The asparagus with mushrooms had so much flavor. The pulpo a la gallega was excellent with its freshness, preparation and hint of paprika and salt. The jamon iberico bellota served there tasted like butter. The turron dessert is amazing to watch since they use the blow torch. It was a piece of heaven. Compliments to the pastry staff. The crema catalana which is a standard was so flavorful with vanilla and the burnt sugar crust. The staff gets really busy there but they work in concert. If you cannot get your waiter, anyone there will help get you drinks or more food. Staff is super patient. It is very busy but the hostesses are really nice, charming young women who know how to handle a crowd. read more

Yet another excellent meal in Barcelona. There's so many good choices to go in the city the difficult task is actually making a decision which place to go to. Seriously...it's a good problem to have. Vinitus is another neighborhood bar that puts out good food fast. We're fans of La Flauta...and if you've been there you'll like Vinitus. Vice Versa as well. We started out with a bottle of Luis Cañas which was a deal at €23. We shared the Calamari, Steak Montadito, Foie Gras w/ Apple Jam, Jamon Iberico, Razor Clams, Shrimp and Calamari Skewer, and finished with Crema Catalan for dessert. Everything was delicious but if you want to hang your hat on a couple items...it's the Foie and the Razor Clams. I can't believe I'm saying that over the Jamon, but you can get that anywhere in Barcelona. When it comes to ordering wine...since it's so reasonable. If you see a Reserva on the menu...I recommend ordering it and spending an extra €5-€10. We did that with the Luis Cañas and it was superior to the wine we had the night before...and only an €8 difference. Anyway. I highly recommend this as a solid tapas joint. Big queue, whether dinner or lunch time, telling you all to come early is meaningless coz you have to wait irrespective your! The atmosphere is electric, buzzing and just feels hip n cool. Staff are very friendly albeit the English language but that's understandable, we are visitors. Food, fresh and simple, full of flavor especially the prawns! I'm on study abroad, and I group of ten of us tried to find a place that wasn't AGGRESSIVELY touristy, but still a fun and "Barcelona vibe." We got here and the line was out the door, down the street, and around the corner. We went up to get a table, and luckily their large party table was open, so we were sat within a few minutes. We had all the classic tapas, from potato's to squid, some cava, and churros. All of which was delightful, but still not the highlight of the night. The service, THATS WHAT GOT ME. We had a few allergies at the table, severe gluten and shellfish, and they told us if each dish we ordered was ok, made sure to separate if it had parts that weren't, and continuously checked on us. They also were totally ok with all of our annoying American questions, like "what's this?" and "what would you recommend." and as we left, they said "Bye Americans" (a little silly, but very fun). I assume if you are on yelp, you aren't local, so if you are visiting, definitely go by, but prepare for a bit if a wait. Vinitus slightly edged out Cervecería Catalana as the better of the two for top-notch tapas and pintxos in this area of Barcelona in our opinion. Both were equally good in terms of service, both extremely lively, but Vinitus did also have the edge on ambiance and atmosphere. It was a little difficult at first to make some of our initial tapas choices because of the numerous delicious sounding offerings. Had we an insatiable appetite, we probably would have ordered at least one of everything. Since we were a party of four, however, we were still able to try quite a number of plates. The top 3 for me here were the bacalhau (extremely moist and flaky fish covered in melted cheese and a sweet tomato sauce that had an unexpected, yet amazing flavor), the beef tenderloin topped with foie gras (pure decadence), and the anchovies over tomato bread (umami-mania). First tapas restaurant that I decided to check out during my first time in Barcelona! I was not disappointed. There were already people waiting before the restaurant even opened. The place is also bright and spacious. Modern interior and super clean! We ordered: Jamon Iberico Potatoes Bravas Fried Anchovies, Fried Calamari, Fried Octopus Grilled Octopus Baked Cod We loved all of them and would definitely come back next time we are in Barcelona! It's a great tourist spot. The service is a little bad. I also noticed a few customers were not happy with their service. Our server was very moody and barely checked up on us.
