my wife and I's own personal experience at Vinnys was positive. We picked out a golden retriever, which came with all his paperwork. The employees we dealt with were all pleasant and excited for us to walk away with the new addition to our family. Three years down the road our puppy is fully grown and has had no problems. We still purchase our dog food from Vinnys and they ask about our boy. The only reason I gave four stars rather than five is because I feel their pricing may be a little high and they often have a few too many dogs in the space. read more

They sold me a kitten that was very sick he had worms, a respiratory infection, eye infection etc. They gave me a date of birth and the name of a breeder they also said the kitten was dewormed and had a 5way vaccination. They are liars. As soon as I brought him home I noticed right away I called the shop and they said there is nothing they can do and that he was a stray cat. ( Admitting they lied )I paid $100 for a stray kitten and I had a $200 vet bill on top of medications to help him. I've only had him for less than a week. This poor kitten. read more

Vinnies Bow wow will not let you know or meet the puppies parents or breeders that made them. When I went to pick a puppy out since Vinnie swears they are against puppy-mills, I noticed they where dodgy about breeders, I was told all the info would be in my puppy packet but it was not and all emails have been ignored . Workers become irritated and will delete any post that indicates they ARE a puppymill. My Pomeranian is a sweet boy but already has throat and joint issues. I left with him because seeing him there with pee and some poop matted on his butt broke my heart and since he was already 3 or 4 months old I didn't want to know what happened if he didn't get bought. He is almost a year now and like i said , his knees pop out of the joint and he gags a lot, I'm scared to death he has sinking trachea , which is a poorly bred trait and usual for puppy mills. Be careful buying here, my hearts broken knowing I supported a puppymill. All i want to know is who bred my dog so i can sleep better at night but I know his poor mom is probably on some amish farm right now wheeling out more puppies as we speak. read more

I went to inquire about a dog they had for sale at $1,000. I asked questions about the breeder and the employee got the paperwork and told me what was on it. They stated they only bought dogs from reputable breeders who follow PA dog laws. When the employee told me the breeders name I knew that he also sold puppies on greenfieldpuppies.com. A known puppy mill site. I then googled the specific breeder and he had 6 different breeds of puppies for sale within the last month. I feel bad for anyone who would purchase a puppy from here because you know they're not getting a quality dog but you're certainly paying a quality price. read more

I have purchased several pets from them going back as far as 30 years. Our first was a German Shepard mix named Merlin. He lived to be 13. Our cat lived to be 17. Our other dog lived to be 13. All passed away due simply to age of their breeds. None of them had issues due to breeding but due to the breed that they were. Do the work and be aware of what MAY happen because of their breed and be aware. I would DEFINITELY get another dog here but having trouble getting over the loss of our dog. I do plan to eventually get one. I have adopted over the years as well which is not for the novice because of their past trauma. Always accept the work and loss of sleep just like a baby. My wife and I purchased an English bulldog from this place just under a year-and-a-half ago. As of yesterday we had to put her down because she was riddled with cancer. I believe this place to be selling puppy mill dogs and claiming they are from breeders. If you get a dog from there make sure you talk to the actual breeder. This place is awful. In hindsight, there are very much like a sleazy car salesman. They tell you everything you want to hear while you're in the shop and as soon as you pay, they do not stand behind their gaurentee. The owner and management are terrible and I feel so awful for these animals that are subjected to their neglect. When we visited, it was pure chaos. Dogs were eating their pee and poop and the inexperienced workers were frazzled. When we purchased out pup, the next day I has a sever allergic reaction. We bathed him and took him to the vet where we learned he had various health concerns. I called and emailed the shop and was told to email the vet paperwork over. They gave me an email that failed in divery. Then upon calling back, the staff claimed they didn't know the email. Finally, I received a fax but no reply from the owner and I was within the 10 day guarentee. The manager told me to sell the pup for profit and that the owners aren't going to call me back. I was so discouraged. These puppies are not well cared for and they like multiple in one cage. The puppies fight and each each others pee and poop. As soon as you open the door, your breath is taken away by the terrible odor. It is a shame they are somehow still in business. You are likely to be disappointed if you shop here. read more

I called Vinnie's to inquire about this and they were very rude, stated they have never had any health issues with their pets before. My family found the perfect puppy, a doberman. We fell in love with him. Had him for about 6 months then he started acting up after 5 months old. Now we are force to get rid of him. this place is a disaster. Practically reeks of feces and urine upon entry and the employees were embarrassingly uneducated. Asked numerous pointed questions about the health records & breeding information and little miss beauty queen seemed more interested in her phone than answering my questions. The employee was particularly RUDE when I asked for a manager after my questions were not adequately addressed and I was informed she WAS the manager. Whoever the owner is should be ashamed of the management of their location and the rundown and uncleanliness of the store. The animals were adorable but after reading similar reviews of sickly dogs I decided to take my business elsewhere. DONNOT expect to have any of your questions probably addressed as the staff seemed grossly misinformed on even the most basic of animal care. I had an absolutely horrible experience purchasing a puppy from here. I got a vet check on the puppy 2 hours after purchasing. Received horrible news of congenital patella and hip issues. Immediately called about returning the puppy that day, I was told no. The puppy need to see their vet first. Two weeks later (needless to say I can't give him up now) I see their vet and get worse news. Still nothing has been done. They don't care about the law or their animals. We purchased 2 Yorkie's from this store about 10-11 yrs ago. They both had numerous health issues. The little girl had seizures, pancreatitis, luxor patella, among other issues. She has recently passed away. The little boy, has diabetes, diabetes related loss of sight and also had pancreatitis issues. We spent in excess of $500 per month for many years to meet their medical needs. They were both lovely pets. But be warned you are not getting pure breed, or even health lineage pets. When you realize this, it is obviously too late and you are attached, as we were. These two were taken away from their Mother too early, and were very bonded to each other. They were in the same crate when we purchased them. When questioned about the breeder, they simply towed the standard line, a reputable breeder that they had worked with for many years. That tells you nothing. In closing, I would just say, do not buy here unless you are prepared to spend a great deal of $ at the vets office and a great deal of time and commitment at home to meet their needs. They had just lost their pet 7 days before they bought this one. The man is waiting on a heart transplant. imagine the stress it put him under. Today, We made a visit to Vinnie's Bow Wow Shoppe. We arrived just as the store opened at 10am. We immediately inquired about the Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. The employee was extremely uneducated. I asked how long the puppies had been at the store, he was unable to answer that. I asked how old the puppies were. Again, he was unable to answer that. The 3 dogs were nearing 12 weeks and all in the same crate. Those of you unfamiliar with this breed, they are a large dog, therefore the cage was way too small. The water bottle in the cage was completely empty. Once the bottle was filled the dogs IMMEDIATELY drank the entire bottle again. The dogs were then taken out of the cage - free to roam the entire store. The one dog pooped on the ground - his sister ate the poop. I inquired about the health guarantee - which isn't offered. I then inquired about recent vet visits, I was provided documentation of the dogs last pet visit which was 2 weeks ago. However, the employee told me the vet saw the puppies every friday. When I asked for the documentation of the last vet visit, the employee couldn't provide it. He made 3 phone calls to the owner because he was unsure of the answers to all my questions. I continued to read through the 2 week old vet visit which stated the puppy had coccidia/giardia. Those of you that are unfamiliar with this, it is a parasite found in stool. Remember me telling you the puppies sister ate his bowels? The paperwork also advised the puppy had worms. I then asked to speak with the owner on the phone, for I was very fed up with the uneducated/uninformed employee. The owner of the store advised me that the dog is being treated for the coccidia. However the employee knew nothing of the medication and seemed to be caught by surprise when I inquired about it. So you know that the puppy is not receiving proper medication for his parasites. Needless to say the puppy and his litter maters will unlikely heal from this as long as they're in the crate and eating each others feces. In closing, I have never bought from a pet shop and these are just some of the reasons why. I'm aware many things are out of your control, however I find these actions or lack of actions unacceptable. I would not recommend buying from here, stick to your knowledgable, reputable breeders ;) read more
