Best to take pictures beforehand to keep staff and yourself honest. First time here. Took some DVDs here to be evaluated for resale. The man who did the evaluation was very busy helping guests and while trying to do my evaluation. I saw him almost drop them but catch them before they feel to the floor. Things seemed fine at first after I took them back because the offer was to low. When I went to the my car I noticed additional wear and tear on one DVD package. Went back to address it with person who did the evlauation and he said he didn't notice the damage during his review and didn't say he damaged it. We had to leave it there since I had no proof and he didn't have anything more to say since he looked at everything so quickly. However, If I brought him a broken product he should have noticed it, as that's part of his job in evaluating. Also there was a lot of staff there who were not assisting customers, so they could have put more care into my evaluation, instead of the busy man at the front desk, which in this case would be in Vintage Stock's best interest since, if the case was damaged beforehand, I almost sold them a damaged product, which was not my intent and why I looked at everything beforehand. Like I said best to keep everyone honest with pictures, but I don't think I will be returning here. I'll stick with Half Price books which has a dedicated resale counter were I know the product is safe. Great value for physical media. Wanted to find some movies to play in the truck for the children, and this place seemed to have huge selection! The service however was absolutely garbage. One employee pretended to put away a movie while he watched the children & myself browse. Mind you these movies are $6-$10. He was absolutely rude & didn't want to look up the discs I was looking for. I insisted he do his job & came to the register expecting him to finally grow up & notice I'm a paying customer. Nope! This place is different every time, last time I went in the guy helping me was very friendly and cool, but before that the lady in the corset acted like she is missing some Vitamin D. Vintage Stock is notorious for overpricing. So, unless you want to go online for certain items, then you are paying for the immediate gratification. Never buy cards from this place. They do not match market value. I even asked them to do so, but they said it's not in their policy. For collectors out their, Vintage Stock is the worst place to go. Even newly packaged product cost more here. Vintage Stock is still worth checking out for the nostalgia. They have consoles, video games, comic books, music, cards, posters, and all sorts of trinkets. Sometimes it's fun just to look around. I have been a patron to vintage stock for years, but with online being more convenient, I'm surprised they are still set on not marking their product down, especially when it's evident everything is overpriced. I like this place. Michigan is really a sad excuse for retro-gaming. Gamestop has eaten up all the independents and basically removed anything other than the latest games from the market. Kansas has an interesting place called Vintage Stock. They have CD's, DVD's BluRay disks, toys, anime and best of all video games. Selections are available in both new and used. I found games and accessories all the way back to the Atari 2600 era... love it. I was able to pick up an original X-Box game and a RF adapter for the original Nintendo system. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, they were able to answer even the most off-the-wall question that I threw at them. I may try to catch another of the stores in the chain while I'm in town to see what different things I could fine... read more

I have no idea why more people don't go the used route. Let me be clear that I'm talking music and movies more so than anything else. I've been buying used DVDs for awhile now and I've never been disappointed. Typically a few spins on a brand new DVD will have the same look as the ones you'll find at Vintage Stock and these used or rented ones will play as good as new. Vintage's selection at this location is wonderful, basically a wall-o-entertainment if you will. It's gotta be 20-30 feet and packed full. So what's the big deal? How about 3 DVDs for $10! And we're talking quality films, not those crazy titles you see in the bins at your favorite retailer. I was also in the market to pick up An Inconvenient Truth since everywhere I look it's still $20.00 even at Wal-Mart. Vintage had it for $8. Score. You'll also find a great selection of used TV box sets and comic books as well as being a great shop for card-collectors. I've left that hobby behind from my childhood for now so I stayed clear to resist the temptation of opening up a fresh pack. I probably shop here only once a year, usually around the holidays. Most recently I went in to sell some DVDs that we no longer needed. Every time I go in there I have bad customer services experiences and it seems to always be with different people. They talk to me like I'm an idiot and they're always condescending. When I went in to sell the DVDs the kid was unfriendly and acted like I was an inconvenience to him. I didn't get a wait time, so I assumed it would be quick. I waited around for 45 minutes (which is fine, but I wish he would have told me that to begin with), but it looked like they weren't even doing anything with my stuff. I decided to leave and come back, but he was so rude about it and insisted I should just wait, saying "Listen man, I'm almost done if you would just wait!" and acted like I was ridiculous for wanting to leave and come back. Worked here for almost two years. The starting pay is an abysmal $8.00 an hour. I had to beg for a promotion to keyholder which I eventually got after months of being strung along. Company has consistently high profit margins and yet employees are paid little and customers bringing stuff to sell are underpaid for their belongings. This place was a total nightmare. We came in to buy some used games and had gone to game stop prior. All the used games were 2 to 3 times more expensive than game stop. Yet when we tried to sell a game, they quoted us $3 and they were going to turn it around and sell it for $30+. When my boyfriend asked a person about selling an Xbox, they gave him attitude when asking what specific model it was. Also, I used the restroom and I would have preferred to use a sketchy gas station bathroom over that place. The toilet seat was up, pee was all over the rim, floors were so grimy and multiple pubic hairs were on the rim as well!! Like how does that even happen?!? I wanted to throw up just looking at it. The sink looked like it had mold and has not been cleaned for years. Don't think I will ever come back here and neither should anyone else until they figure out how to be sanitary and rethink their pricing. read more

Vintage Stock should really be named Nerd's Paradise. Cause seriously, this place is awesome. They sell everything from authentic replicas of game items (think: Sora's Keyblade, Link's double-edged sword, even the DRAGONBALLS from DragonBall Z), old school records, posters, CDs, DVDs/Blu-Rays, and anything remotely related to gaming. Availability of different things vary widely by store, of course, but I've seen Sega Dreamcasts, GameBoy Colors, the original Pokemon Blue/Green/Red/Yellows, and just about anything else vintage that has gone back into the vault. These stores really are your opportunity to pick up timeless classics for just about anything that satisfies your inner nerd. The best part, though? They'll gladly buy any old video game, comic book, DVD, CD, action figures, etc. from you. Yes, they flip it around in their store and yes, they only give you 20% of what THEY value the item as, but it certainly beats dumping it in a box and sending it off to Goodwill since you can get some value back out of it (note: not saying that donating to Goodwill is a bad thing, cause it isn't). I took around 40 old Blu-Rays into one of their stores a few weeks ago and walked away with $60 in cash. Not bad. You also have the option to get store credit instead for an extra 20-25% in value (I forget the exact figure). Pretty sweet business model for both parties, if you ask me. Really, the only downside I've seen here are the pricing of their items. It's a bit scattered at times. They have some good deals tucked away in there, sure, but a lot of things that are currently being sold in stores will sell for a similar prices elsewhere. For example, Blu-Rays. Their pricing for newly-released Blu-Rays--even if the item IS used--will be similar to what you can get off Amazon or at Best Buy. But some may be lower, some may be higher, it just seems to be the luck of the draw for which titles get discounted/marked up. Pricing on vintage items are quite subjective, though, as some may think $30 for the old Pokemon Red is a steal while some may scoff at the price. TL;DR: If you're looking for a specific gaming/electronics piece that's a timeless classic and/or not on the retail shelves anymore, Vintage Stock is THE spot. You may have to hit up multiple locations, but chances are, they'll have what you're looking for. Additionally, if you're looking to get some salvage value out of old collectibles or electronics you have laying around, they'll gladly buy it off you for cash as well. Staff at this location is terrible. Manager at this location is sloppy. There is a case full of DS and 3ds games that are marked down but they have a sticker bigger than the game itself on the front. Can I have mystery game for $34.99 please? Then I looked at the comics in the showcase. They have a couple of comics that are priced above $100 that the haven't even bothered putting in a fresh bag or board. The bags they are in are easily 40 years old, no board. On a previous visit the manager and his cohort practically refused to open the vintage game display to let me take a closer look at a few games. The protocol is ask how much every game is and if you agree to buy it you can look. Way better vintage stocks in town with nicer staffs. I've gotten two games from them now that were either broken and didnt work or were a flat out bootleg. They have no quality control for their games and don't even check them before selling them. The staff is mediocre and a lot of the times is unhelpful. They never have any good stuff stocked and most of the games are way overpriced. At this point you're better off buying and selling games at GameStop because they have more than a 2,000% mark up for some games at Vintage Stock. I have had them try to buy games from me for literally cents. They have gone way down hill, and while they still have a better selection of older games than GameStop, you're probably better off buying games on Amazon. read more

In high school, when I was going through my 'pop music sucks, I can only listen to 60s music' phase - this store was IT for me. Everything is priced between $6 and $9 per CD on average, some of course are higher or lower) - and for some of the best music, albeit used, but the who cares in the age of i-pods anymore?! They also sell used DVDs - and if I happened to buy DVDs myself, I would do it here as Jeremy W. describes. Walking in, they have a huge conversion chart at the entrance that lists the newest Cd's or DVDs and what they are selling each thing for or what its worth if you want to trade. I stick to the used Cd's - its a great place to experiment listening to different sounds without the commitment of purchasing a brand new $18 CD at Target - which few people do anymore anyways. Last time I was in, I ventured over to the Star Wars side of the store - that's right, Vintage Stock is half good music and movies, and half nerd paradise. It has thousands of collectible trading cards and action figures and I'm probably even butchering its full description because it's truly a world I have NO knowledge of whatsoever. BUT, if you're a closet trekky, Star Wars, Mario Bros. addict - you'll find friends here! The staff loves this half of the store - in fact, I never see them in the music aisles, but they're all over the wookiee's in the corner on the other side...hm.... It's a unique stop along the Metcalf stretch if nothing else, sandwiched between a frame shop and Borders bookstore - it doesn't get weirder than this. read more

Jack of all trades. I really enjoy going to Vintage Stock every now and then. I've sold things back before and received cash a couple of times and store credit a couple of other times. I basically enjoy everything the store has (movies, old and new video games, comics, toys, records, etc). Generally, if I'm after a specific comic, I don't come here though. I'll go to a store focused solely on that (same with lp's). For vintage games, it's fantastic though. We asked for a somewhat hard to find PS2 game once and they were able to tell us another Vintage Stock location that had it in stock and could hold it for us. Recently, we went to Game Stop to trade in our PS3 for a PS4 (along with a couple of games/controllers). We had forgotten our AV cables, so they gave us a quote of what we would get for everything once we retrieved the cable and returned. Our quote was for $100 in store credit (and they were selling basic PS4 for $400). After getting the missing cable, we took the same haul to Vintage Stock to see what they would quote us. At Vintage Stock we were offered in-store credit for a little over $130 for the same PS3 + misc accessories. We took that deal and got the PS4. The PS4 there was $400 and came with a copy of Batman Lego and a digital download of Little Big Planet 3 (full game). It was a fantastic deal and they certainly showed that they offer better store credit deals for trade-ins. read more

Out of the dozen or so times I've been to this location, about half of those times were merely to browse through their "vintage" stock. You can whittle away a long afternoon in Overland Park just looking through their stock of old used/new/rare DVDs, compact discs, and video games. I do wish they had more old PC games, but that's probably just me. If you have an old NES, SNES, Sega, or Jaguar (And hey, who doesn't these days?) you'll be in paradise here. For the nerdists out there: I can definitely say that if you're someone who's into collecting toys, comic books, mario paraphrenalia, cards, kids' toys, etc., your ship has come in. I'm almost in my 30s so I can't really comment on their selection as I've never looked at it in depth, but if you're a teenager, a youngster, or someone who just wants to collect all that they can I can think of no better place to come "peruse the inventory" than Vintage Stock. If you're in dire straits or just feel like getting rid of some clutter, you can always bring the stuff you've collected here to cash in or to trade for more clutter. All in all, good prices most of the time, cool stuff, cool store, accepts trades. What more could a kid ask for? read more

Good amount of games and collectors stuff. But man go to a Gamestop before here. I bought Borderlands for $18 including tax. Mind you that was the original one. I stopped by Gamestop later that day. They had the original for $11.99!!! And the special edition with the expansion pack for $18. The same price I payed at Vintage stock. So far they are more expensive for used games. And their section for xbox360 is really small and lame. They do have a lot of old school games. But if your looking for 360 or PS3 check elsewhere before you go here. read more

Great and wide selection of items but you'll pay for that. If you are trying to sell something they give the worst possible price. Main buying problem is the single gaming and sports cards. Each store has their own pricing for them. I went to 3 different locations last week (non-sale week) and bought the exact same MTG card at each shop and it was 3 different prices with this location being the most expensive by far and it was in the worst shape also.. I've seen the same with most cards in boxes and on shelves being priced like this (different from store-to-store). Now as far as packs, boxes and supplies for all cards the prices are the same as Target and other gaming stores but 3 cents higher than Wal-Mart. read more
