Visited today on Easter. Love my finds. It was my first trip to the area. Strolling by on a rainy day. So beautifully organized and so many discerning selections. All were carefully curated and displayed. My only dismay was not being aware of the important work the shop does as a non-profit before I randomly popped in as I was enjoying a stroll for some "me" time during a busy family trip. The woman with glasses, who I assume was the "manager/owner", was very passive aggressive with me and came off disrespectful and unwelcoming. I overheard her negotiating pricing on some items with other customers and when I was ready with my two vintage cameras (to be used for decor/props) and one pretty beat up purse (all totaling $75 w/o tax), I inquired if they were willing to do $70 for all. I wasn't sure what taxes the city/state charged so I wanted to be sure had enough on my card (a visa gift card a friend gave me when I was diagnosed with cancer) to cover the taxes. She loudly and obnoxiously replied "NO. WE DON'T HAGGLE HERE". I found it repulsive and aggressive when I had been so overly kind and impressed with the shop during my visit. It certainly caught me off guard. Especially after hearing her indeed "negotiate" pricing with other guests. She didn't even make eye contact with me but made sure to speak her words loud enough to try to embarrass me. I was not embarrassed, rather appalled and disgusted. So much so that I recalled other travelers from my party and told them not to come down to the shop. On the other hand, the two male clerks working with me were so kind, lovely and helpful during my visit. Kudos to them for staying pleasant and gracious in that moment that was intended for ugliness. While the encounter at the very end of my trip soured my visit, I would still encourage others to go and I will likely be back again next time. Nice! Passed by Vintage Thrift Shop while walking around Gramercy on a sunny Spring day and was drawn in by its window displays. While I can't speak to the Men's or Women's vintage clothing in its selection, the furniture and other stuff was fairly priced. Definitely would stick my head in again whenever I'm in the market for items for my place. Vintage Thrift Shop clearly has some great finds! read more

We always stop at Vintage on our thrifting days. Everything there is high quality and therefore.......expensive! But once in a while we find exactly what we have been looking for and the price is lower than expected ! This shop is managed by one K. Dixon. Kyle is not rude! I have shopped there for years. Don't know what the customer did to inspire this review. I frequent this shop and over the many years I have never seen him be anything but gracious to his shoppers. Maybe this guy is just tired. He keeps this small shop spotless and gleaming. The turnover is just incredible and I cannot imagine how he manages this on what feels like a weekly basis. All is well-marked, organized and very well displayed. His staff is informed and gracious. Kyle, if you are reading this, I wish you the best year of your life. BYW have lived here for almost 60 years and have known all the shops: The good, bad and the out of business. I drop in every so often because the stuff here is always revolving. It's a hand picked type of vibe so you can dig a bit and still feel like you've found something overlooked. Because the objects and retail is basically vintage stuff found from thrift and likely estate sales prior, the prices reflect closer to what you find on Etsy as opposed to a 'thrift shop'. They have sales worth looking through and you can find some great late 70s, 80s-90s designer stuff if needed in a crunch. read more

my dilly dallying between classes was finally good for something! the open doorway and the clearance antique furniture standing in it was just too enticing. a few steps deep and i gathered that the inventory is pretty curated, so probably not the place for those on a hunt for some old champion gear. they've got items from almost every category, but my favorite has probably got to be the kitchenware -- shelves on shelves of one-of-a-kinds! i didn't purchase anything other than a small ceramic jewelry dish (bc student budget RIP), but i'm definitely keeping this place on my radar for the future when i have real monies to furnish my apartment. read more

This is thrift store is so well organized and curated that it can hardly be called a thrift store! So often household used items are just a jumbled mess, but this place displays them with care and style. The clothing and shoes are in great condition and the prices are fair. I wasn't greeted at all while I was there, so that could be improved, but the place was pretty busy. I will return!!! read more

Lisa Haspel runs the store, absolutely the most unprofessional and mean shop owner. I purchased 4 items and she purposely changed the price and charged me more, didn't admit when there were issues with items until I flagged it and was rude and dismissive. Probably one of my favorite higher end thrift shops in the city. Shopping here is a joy! Great prices for what they have. This is not a rummaging thrift store, it's highly curated and everything in it is absolutely wonderful. Every time I come in I'm excited to see what they have and I haven't left empty handed. I got an amazing 70s sequined cocktail dress for $40, cool paisley house coat for $20, and some vintage shorts for $18 (just to give you an idea of the prices). I don't really shop the home goods cause I don't live near here but they're cute and well priced. Great music too! read more

So lucky to have found this gem of a shop! If I could rate this shop 10 stars, I would . I am visiting from FL and this is probably one of the few memorable spots I'll remember . I know it's just a shop but I honestly had a different experience and it almost felt like I was back in the day . From the wonderful music playing to all the variety of items on sale to the unique staff working there ; it was one of a kind . I even sat there for a good moment without interruption going through all the vintage photographs that people donate . I bought so many items and the prices were reasonable as well . This store is in all ways but one a nice place. It belongs in the category of the NYC "not really a thrift store" thrift stores, like Housing Works, Angel Street, etc, where you find a well-edited and well-organized selection of stuff instead of mountains to dig through--and hence the prices aren't thrift store prices. That's fine. My beef is the staff. My GOD. I have dealt with my fair share of bored 20-year-old Beacon's Closet employees, but the Vintage Thrift people are grown-ups, and they are way worse than bored. They are hostile! When I was there most recently, I asked a question about a pair of boots and the women behind the counter was almost aggressively unhelpful, if that's possible. Imagine the combination of someone who thinks you're extremely stupid AND has never seen a boot before in her life: that was how she reacted to me. So I was like, okay, then... goodbye, boots! I was still holding a handbag that I was thinking about buying, and then I heard another employee scolding a man for reaching out for something that wasn't for sale--which was in no way apparent, btw. This exchange was audible from across the store. Dude. That is appalling. I put that bag right back where I found it and walked out. Someone who doesn't care about customer service--or basic civility--is welcome to it! And the boots too. read more

About 5 years ago I used to be one of those people who judged thrifters. I'd be all "those clothes are old and worn, why would I go thrifting?" I'm glad I came to my senses. Like a lot of judgemental people, I had no idea what I was talking about. Thrifting is where it's at people. When you are searching for items that typically range from $50-$100, hit up a thrift store and I guarantee you'll find what you need for 5 to 20 bucks. I thrifted two cute shirts here at Vintage Thrift Shop, and I'm so excited to wear them. My best friend was searching for cool garments to add her fashion blog- ToldbyDruDoll.Com - in honor of New York Fashion Week. I found a satin cropped top for her, and she thrifted an adorable little top hat that was worn by women in the 50s. Charles was awesome. He gave us a lot of useful tips, but showing my best friend how to maintain the hat was the most helpful of them all. The only downside are the prices here at Vintage Thrift Shop. Prices are a bit higher than most thrift stores, but they sell vintage designer brands so I understand why. Lucky us, we came in at the right time. 40% off all items in store, WOHOO! Oh my word, a vintage store in the city with nice clothing, kitschy accessories, good prices and organized? Can it really be? Walking into Vintage thrift, I felt like I had just landed into a world of color from a land of black & white, with my house over the evil corpse of dingy over-priced thrifts as squeaky voices sang, "We welcome you to vintage land, la-la-la-la-la-la." Vintage thrift is so lovely, the prices are fair, the merchandise doesn't have that cringe-inducing smell to it and above all else, it is organized like a real store, not with heaps of piles in the middle of the store and Charles Manson Jr. behind the cash register but an honest to whatever-is-up-there classy thrift. I've been going here for a few years now, and every time I enter, I ask myself-- "am I really in MANHATTAN?" This adorable, funky, well-located vintage/thrift store (hence the name, I suppose) has everything I want without any of what I DON'T: i.e., attitude. No attitude, no pesky store-zombies following you around asking, "can I help you with anything? Would you like to try that on? You're not about to steal that, are you?" No, at this place you can strip in the middle of the floor and try on the clothes without a dressing room, if you'd like. (I know because I have.) Let's get into what they have: gorgeous vintage slips, quirky dresses from the 60s, tacky and wonderful blouses from the 70s, beaded dresses, scarves, adorable shoes, some really great jewelry, belts, purses-- all arranged in a way that feels welcoming, like your uber-awesome best friend's closet. Apart from the clothing, you'll also find tons of vintage pictures (including negatives!), some funky colorful kitchenware, pretty vintage lamps, lots of books, some handmade afghans, vintage posters... you really never know. And I can freely browse the shop on a student's budget and know I can come out with something great-- especially when they have one of their sales. Just the other day I got a wonderful 70s dress for $7 on sale and a very cute necklace for $2. And when I don't feel like buying anything, I still come in just to poke around and get inspiration on apartment decorating. Did I mention I love this place? I LOVE vintage thrift. It is BY FAR the most reasonably priced vintage store in town. Beyond the great prices, it is such a charming store. I love that it feels like an overstuffed closet. I usually only buy clothing here but I lust after the furniture as well. Also I love the window displays. While I still give this place 5 stars, just to give a heads up.... the fitting rooms are teeny-tiny, and while other people say that the staff has been helpful, they have never said "boo" to me. I actually love being left alone while I shop.....unless I'm shopping alone and trying to decided if the 70's floor length dress that I have on is actually as cool as I think it is. Last but not least, this place has everything. books, accessories, awesome vintage eye-wear, jewelry, furniture, fabrics....etc. the list could go on and on. So much fun here! I come in here just to look at curios and ended purchasing a beautiful white porcelain plate as a present for a friend. It was italian made, and the carvings on it were so nice! All for a really low price. They keep a tightly curated selection and there's always something interesting to look at. I was so tempted to buy a set of plates because the pieces were all around $2 each, but alas, I really don't need more plates. Clothing selection is lame. It's hard to look because of the store's layout. They do have a sale section, but there was nothing good. Shoes, belts and jewelry are cool to look at. I read bad reviews prior to my review about the staff. I didn't have any interactions with the two men working there but I have to say I felt like I was being watched the whole time. This is one of my top 5 favorite thrift stores in Manhattan, hands down. I started coming here when I was in high school and have been a customer since! First of all, they have a great selection of mostly-vintage clothes...sure, they don't have as many clothes as other thrift stores, but that's because they pick out the best stuff to display and sell. Vintage Thrift Shop has everything...retro 60s dresses, tiny-necked 70s sweaters, bright 80s jackets, sexy lingerie and slips from millions of years ago that were definitely worn by people who are long gone. The women's clothes selection is pretty large and takes about an hour to comb through really, and everything is sorted so neatly -- dresses, skirts, sweaters, blouses, blazers, jackets, fur coats, pants, hats, etc -- by color!! It's great to go looking for a black sweater and find the black sweaters all together on a rack. There are lots of random things for sale, too...jewelry, knickknacks, old framed pictures and art, furniture, books, shoes, appliances. There are some treasures to be found here, and a lot of the clothes I've purchased here have gotten me lots of compliments when I wear them out. There are a ton of thrift shops in this area and this is the best one around. A lot of people are complaining about the staff and their attitudes...they must be from out of town. I came to this spot shortly after moving to the area to see what they offered in terms of home goods and furniture. I walked by a few times and noticed a pair of chairs that I fell in love with and wanted to get for my new place. I'm skeptical of thrift shops and terrified of bedbugs, especially in the city, but I decided to give this place a look. When I walked in, I was initially surprised. The floor is setup really well--women's clothing in the front, men's off to the left and furniture in the back and right. They seem to have a good amount of big label secondhand women's clothing and shoes, but clearly, I wasn't really looking for that so I moved right along. Their men's clothing selection was much more limited. It seemed like most of the items were trying to look cool but falling short. As I mentioned, I came looking for furniture and home goods, but when I made my way to the back of the store, everything looked like it had been thoroughly used and very generic. The prices were very reasonable for what was being offered, but I wasn't looking for some generic trinkets to sit on a shelf. As for the chairs that were displayed in the window, I learned that their window displays are available by silent auction, and you can offer a bid at the register--that seems like too much work for me. I will say that the people working here were very friendly and very helpful. I wished they had a larger selection of men's clothing and a nicer selection of home goods though. I could see myself coming back on a day when I was window shopping, but I don't think coming here with something specific in mind is a good idea. read more

I pop in here every week or so to browse the stuff and have been pretty impressed with the selection. They are always getting new things and I've found some good deals, cool unique mugs for $3 each, Pier 1 bowls in basically mint condition for $3 each, a big wooden salad serving bowl for $4, and plenty of glassware (wine glasses, martini glasses, whiskey glasses, etc) for as cheap as $1 each. I've seen some cool lamps, side tables and things too that I've never pulled the trigger on. Clothes selection looks pretty good too (for men and women), just really nothing in my style. Definitely worth a walk in here. I like it much better than the Housing Works around the corner. read more

This thrift store has a lot to offer, from the interesting store window displays to its entire contents. Items abound and are useful and great housewares. Jewelry was 8$ and up, housewares 1$ and up. A cool solid wood white chair on wheels (could have made a desk chair) 25$, clothes etc. Like a neat, dust-free,well-chosen yard sale. Coming from me, comparison to a yard sale is a compliment. Well-priced, especially for NYC. Love this place and hope to come back. read more

Definitely a place worth checking out. They have a huge selection of clothing and most of it is actually vintage clothing. Also have a great selection of shoes which looked to be in good condition. Personally I can't bring myself to buy worn shoes, but they had some amazing boots that were barely worn. If you're looking for furniture or home things, this place is great too! The actually had entire sets of dishes! Tea cups aren't my thing, but if they're yours ... this place has an entire section dedicated to tea cups. The furniture was in good condition too. Discovered this lovely hidden gem in Manhattan during one of my vintage shopping trips. While it's a small one-story shop, it's carefully curated with plenty of unique merchandise, all in good quality. It's where I explore for wine glasses, costume jewelry, storage, boxes. Purchased this unique iron wall mirror with a morning glory motif earlier this month, only for $70 (including tax). Staff was accommodating and securely packaged it for me, they weren't overbearing stalkers as service is in other stores. Excited for my next visit. read more

I usually shop in this area because they have a few vintage shops along the area. Vintage Thrift, is the only place that makes me fell unwelcome. I watched how friendly they are to caucasian customers . The times, that I have inquire about an item they are short and rude on their answers. Recently, I was at the store and the young lady, as I was standing looking at an item, very abruptly, and with a attitude, said; " EXCUSE ME", and I reply you're excuse, then the tall gentlemen whom also works there, pass by, and said excuse me, and lastly yet another male employee, pass by, and said excuse me!! I visited this place on the recommendation of Time Out New York, which gave it a huge photo and rave review in its annual guide. I was disappointed. Most of the men's clothing was t-shirts from the 1980's. Perhaps it is a better place to shop for women's clothing. read more

We came in because of the groupon, and came to the wedding event that was going on while we were visiting. The event started a little late, but I thought it was an interesting event. I wasn't wowed by any dresses, but then again, I wasn't looking for one. The sizes were all pretty small, and the new dresses weren't super. I did find a ton of cheap-o great jewelry which made my trip worth it. I'd be interested in going back again to see what it's like normally with housewares. While really fun, the pricing on the clothes was really outrageous. The woman behind me in line spent $95 on a hideous two piece horrid yellow outfit. That is the reason why they get three stars. I'd also love it if the purses (most with no label, or vintage unknown labels) were less expensive. The jewelry was pretty much my jam, though! read more
