Came in today and loved the idea of how the store donates to a charity. I get to the back of the store and notice some beautiful designer things in a glass shelf and then moved to the shoes, where I found some more designer shoes and green boots that I thought were super dope. I didn't even think to look at the brand because of the wide variety of designer and vintage pieces I saw which is absolutely my fault, but when I got home and looked at the brand of the shoe... it was SHEIN. The boots are fire but I spent $50 on $10 SHEIN shoes. Customer service was 10/10 though. I would expect SHEIN at a thrift store but not a vintage store please source better. read more

Call it a Second-Hand boutique, or maybe a Consignment Shop, but definitely not a thrift store This is the only "thrift store" that I've been able to stand in without feeling nauseous. I usually find them to be cluttered and dirty. This was quite the opposite. The Thrifty Hig was set up like a high end boutique. Between the window displays, the mannequins and the overall setup, I did not realize this was a second hand store until talking with the sales associate. This place had a lot of name brand and vintage women's clothing and accessories. And when I say name brand, I'm talking higher end expensive brands. So if you are searching for those $10-20 dresses or business suits this is not necessarily the place for you, but you might find a $500 dress for $100. You can find some bargains, but like I said this is not what you normally think of as a "thrift" store. I wish there was a larger men's section. My friend found several items, but I found nothing for myself personally. Another great thing about this place is that they donate proceeds to charity, specifically Hearts of Gold which helps homeless mothers and their children. I know people shop "thrift" stores for extreme bargains, but Before complaining that this place is pricey, think about where your money is going and the people it's helping! I love the reasoning behind this thrift and they could really do great things with it, however, the prices for a second hand store were a bit much. I felt like I was shopping in an actual chain store (Ann Taylor, Express, etc). They have older coach bags that cost more than brand new in store bags. You can find some really amazing gently worn name brand items that are super unique AND the staff is absolutely AMAZING and can help you with pairing items, if you have no fashion sense like me. I absolutely recommend checking this place out, even at 4 stars! Thrifty HoG is a very cute experience! Fun, upbeat music is very loud, but it makes you want to dance a little while you shop! The customer service was the best out of all of my shopping experiences in NYC this week, so be prepared for friendly faces and an easy-going and kind attitude! The store layout is organized, easy to sort through, and very colorful and quirky. The only reason for my 4 star review is the prices of most of the clothes. It's possible to find a gem at HoG, like a vintage Jil Sander blazer for $78, or a pink Coach leather moto jacket that retailed for close to $1,400, at around $250-ish! But many of the items in the store, you'd easily find at Goodwill NYNJ, not too far away. I was disappointed to see brands like H&M, Forever21, and Zara, priced at basically retail, or even higher than! Go for a half hour, take in the absolute cuteness of the store, be greeted by the bubbly staff, sort through some very beautiful dresses and jackets, but don't get your hopes of finding a gem up too high. read more

I think this is one of the better thrift stores in terms of the way it's laid out and the mixture of high/low fashions. A few months ago I managed to snag a really cool carry-on suitcase in this really cool marigold color. It was really good quality and unique. I do think they could have come down in price a bit considering the handle would not extend out fully. The owner swore that it simply needed wd40, but when I took it to a repair shop roughly 10 blocks away, I was told it was actually broken... Nevertheless, I still think the suitcase was an amazing find. I'm deducting a star because I stopped by recently and found that the workers were constantly hovering over the customers in the store. You also have to check your bag. I guess they've had some issues with theft. For such an intimate space e it's a little uncomfortable to have someone constantly looking over your shoulder. I should also point out that the store has a great cause and employs at-risk mothers to get back on their feet. read more

The Thrifty Hog is a wonderful establishment that can help those in need, and help all of us when the time is right. We can donate, provide support and assist as required when the time is right. We can donate as well. Clothes, items, (I am going to see if I can donate books to help students). It is a wonderful place. And in the times we live it is better to help when we can. A good location and the team is wonderful as well. It is a wonderful place to visit when you have a moment to help. I wouldn't mind helping when we are allowed to go back out and do things again. Of course, if you go to visit take your time and search the items. Sometimes they are there and sometimes not. Think about what you see and listen to the purpose of the organization. It does help you and them. read more

The staff were extremely rude. A staff member asked us to move in a slightly rude way, we complied but they were not happy with our facial expressions so they became extremely hostile and scolded us again. If you are a young person or don't want your facial expressions policed this store is not for you! read more

Every-time I enter this shop the employees ruin the experience for me, especially the woman with the short red buzz cut. She takes her job a little too seriously and immediately runs up to you in your face telling you that you can't take any outside bags in and shoves hand sanitizer in my face. The furthest from a welcoming atmosphere which would make me want to spend my money in your store. This happened yesterday and was the final straw for me not to be returning. I have visited in the past with an instance where the owner signaling to her employee to keep a watch on me as I'm about to enter the fitting room. Too bad a I saw what she said and decided to purchase anyway. They have a good selection but charge a lot when a lot of the items are damaged with stains, missing buttons or belts. Yesterday was the final straw for me and unfortunately for them I won't be returning. I've spent close to $1000 in this store, but with every time I visit I end up having a bad experience due to the owner or employees. With the amount of thrift stores in the city, you need to do better! read more

My sister and I were profiled by the employees and they wouldn't stop staring us down thinking we were going to steal something. It was our first and last time there. Overpriced, like $20 for a basic h&m tee... like really? I understand they donate to charity, but that is a ripoff. read more

I never imagined that I could have such an unpleasant experience in a store. I happened to be walking by on a nice day and decided to stop in for the first time. Immediately, a stressed-looking lady ran up to me while talking on her walkie-talkie or something. She looked me over and informed me sternly that she needed to tell me about the store. I had literally just crossed the threshold. I considered turning right around but decided to let her finish. From that minute on, I was watched and followed by these ladies constantly. Not only are they unwelcoming, the store is, too -- it's full of big signs everywhere with warnings: "Do not touch," "Do not sit here," etc. On top of all that, the merchandise is 1) not great and is 2) overpriced. I would never again go to actually shop but there is something fascinating about how obnoxious these charity ladies are. I might go back just to have another look. read more

This place is a new thrift shop that caters towards gently used "higher end" clothing. I say "higher end" because you won't be seeing any of the mess that you see in, say, Salvation Army. It looks like a boutique in here, with the layout and the labels they carry. There are rows of clothes, and above the clothes there are shelves with neatly folded sweaters and the like, as well as some purses and shoes for your enjoyment. There are Childrens and a Mens section in the back. I did see some books and housewares in the back too, but the selection was quite small. Prices are not dirt cheap because a lot of the items are name brands, and they were obviously selected with a lot of care. I would expect to pay no less than $12 and upwards of $125 or so for a lot of their items here. For example, I saw a Kate Spade purse for $80, a Catherine Malandrino dress for $125, lots of Coach bags, and even a Burberry quilted jacket (size M, unfortunately, too big for me otherwise I would have gotten it!) for $75 One of the saleswomen was really attentive to this one customer who was buying a pair of heels. She was giving her tips about matching colors and what to wear with the heels in question. I did see high on a shelf, some Prada, Gucci, and Valentino shoes, but I didn't inquire about them. I am curious to see how the store will grow - this should be a hit with designer dud hunters like me. read more

Great store in Flatiron. Wandered by on accident and came away with an ensemble- jacket, jeans, boots, jewelry. The staff is super helpful and there is a nice variety of quality clothing including some vintage items. All of sale profits go to Hearts of Gold supporting homeless mothers and children, so you can feel good about shopping! read more

I was excited to come here to see what vintage items I could find while in the area. Their hours said they didn't close for another 45 minutes. I walked in, and the saleswoman immediately said, "can you do me a favor? Check your phone and see what time it is?" I checked my phone and told her the time and she said "we're closed." And let out a snarky laugh. I will never be coming back here. I should've checked the reviews before I set foot in such a tacky and entitled shop. read more

Went in here today to browse. This is a new thrift shop where the proceeds are for the homeless mothers and children supported by Hearts of Gold (HoG). The shop is also said to provide job training for the women as well. The selection here was not bad at all. Male or female, there was a diversity of clothing (casual to dressy along with shoes). I also saw some diversity of sizes and signs were up saying you could ask if there was something you wanted that's not in your size. I was greeted when I came in so the staff did seem approachable. They also had children's clothing, which I've not seen in most other thrift stores. I'll likely be updating this review once I find out whether clothing is washed before being sold (though items are "very gently used" and what I saw was consistent with that statement) and whether they will be taking some old clothing we've been trying to get rid of that was too casual for Bottomless Closet. Didn't see anything I wanted today but maybe I would in the future. It's worth a look if you're in the area. read more

I happen to walk past and figured I'd check it out. The employee was on the phone when I walked in and immediately said "wait right there". She made me use hand sanitizer and hand over my bag to her which she put under the table. I was not allowed to proceed until I left my bag. It's was a big turn off for me as it would for many other customers. Staff was not very friendly. Nothing great found here and everything is overpriced. Only good thing is that they are a charity and help women in need. But besides that, I wouldn't waste your time coming to this place. read more

It's easy to find cute boutiques, used clothes, and worthy causes in New York...but in one store?! While I wish the men's section was bigger, I give TH major credit (or do we say debit now?) for taking the time to get the design of this place right. The store is laid out nicely, and offers a much better experience than typical low cost resale shops. Thrifty Hog is small, so you won't do all your shopping here, but when you can, it's a good cause to support. read more

I went here yesterday to research thrift shops around midtown for a film project. The sales guy here was so unbelievably rude i could not help but laugh as I exited. He was upset by the way I had looked through the denim, I'm not sure why. He rolled his eyes and made comments. I will not be returning nor will I be recommending this shop to others in the film industry. I hope they get find a sweeter, more helpful sales clerk. read more

Charming, lovely shop hidden away between Broadway & 6th. I'm a thrift store aficionado, but stumbled upon this shop by total happenstance. It has everything from housewares, to accessories, jewelry, luggage, clothing, kids' stuff, etc. Most of their clothing and footwear are designer stuff which can be a bit pricey. All items are clean, in mint condition (even the shoes!). Just walking in to Thrifty Hog puts a smile on your face: quirky, nice decor, airy, LARGE space and nice smelling (unlike many overstuffed, small thrift shops). Unless it's designer label, jewelry is less expensive (avg $20-40), their pieces are quite unique, so I totally recommend it for a quick gift idea. Customer service was lovely: sales gal was attentive and helpful and manager at register was nice. What totally charmed and hooked me was the charity all proceeds go to: Hearts of Gold. From now on, I'll bring in my vintage stuff here, rather than a regular thrift shop, happy to know that it will make a difference in someone's life. read more

The clothing brands were high end, but I was looking for housewares and didn't see much of selection in my price range. Employees were friendly. It may not be the least expensive thrift store/consignment shop around--but it's more boutique than second hand store. I came to NY to get married and was staying opposite this store. I was shocked that a store that seems to have beautiful stock and in such a great location would have such a rude, unhelpful, unhappy and mean person working there. I came in the first day in the middle of a snowstorm on my way to city hall and looking for a hat ANY HAT! and the rude salesman shut the door in my face saying he wasnt open for another 5 mins.. I would have waited to come back but was in a hurry. I came back the next day and saw the perfect hat that could have worked but it was too late. I was so upset and anything I asked him he seemed annoyed for me to even be in the store. This man is a real liability to this place and obviously hates his job. I own a vintage store myself and if this man worked for me I would be closed in weeks! Thanks for helping to make my wedding day so much less enjoyable. read more
