After reading the reviews, I was honestly hesitant to write this--but I feel it's important to share my experience. I'm appalled by the way Jonathan, the owner, responds to many of the 1-star reviews here on Yelp. Not only does he appear to respond mostly to negative feedback, but his tone often comes across as rude and overly defensive. Jonathan, having a business for 30 years doesn't give you a free pass to be dismissive toward people who are simply sharing their experiences. There's always room for growth and improvement. Instead of being combative, take the time to really listen to your customers and consider their concerns--this could lead to positive changes and an even better shopping experience. That said, I visited this consignment store a few days ago, and Jonathan himself was actually very helpful and knowledgeable. He took the time to explain the consignment process and was very pleasant throughout. The store itself is a bit overcrowded with clothing and shoes, which can feel overwhelming, but the selection is solid and the pricing is reasonable considering the focus on high-end pieces. While the clothing leans more mature, there are definitely options for all ages. This shop is exclusively for women--I didn't see any men's items, but that's not a dealbreaker for me. The clearance section is located upstairs, and while I did find a lot of regular designer names, I didn't spot many high-end pieces there aside from a few pairs of shoes. Also, the upstairs area definitely needs better ventilation--AC or at least a few fans would make a big difference, as it was uncomfortably warm. As for handbags, I might have missed them since I was more focused on clothes and shoes, but I didn't see any notable high-end options in that category during my visit. I plan to return soon with more time to explore. Despite my concerns about how the owner responds to feedback online, I didn't experience any issues personally during my visit. I actually had a positive shopping experience, and I would recommend this store. This place is a total scam This place is a total scam. They are engaging in blatant false advertisement, charging premium prices for absolute junk. I bought what I thought was a high-end band for my Apple Watch, only to realize the exact same cheap, low-quality band is sold at Target and Amazon for a third of the price. The moment I opened the box, I was shocked. The photos online are clearly "enhanced" to look luxury, but the physical product is flimsy and doesn't match the description at all. When I immediately emailed to request a full refund, they started playing games. They claimed they wanted to "ensure my satisfaction" but insisted I send them a photo of the bracelet first--which is ridiculous since I had just received it and told them it was in the original condition. I sent them my original invoice to prove the purchase and reiterated that I simply do not want the item. Since then? Total radio silence. They have completely stopped responding to my emails. To make matters worse, their phone line is a joke; it seems to exist only to tell you they don't take calls or to leave you hanging. Do not waste your money here. You're paying "luxury" prices for dollar-store quality and zero customer support. read more

Original Review on Google: Not the best experience. I walked in and was not greeted. My daughter realized their were additional items upstairs. As I was going up stairs to assist her...the associate stopped me because I had a book bag on and quickly told me I needed to check my bag. That there was a sign letting me know. My daughter immediately came back down and told me she was completed. She later explained that there were two females up stairs with oversized bags upstairs. I asked for a card and instead of placing it in my hand, the associate placed it on the counter. It was a weird experience and I guess selective on who is allowed to have big bags on them. I will not recommend. I'm interested to hear the response from the owner; as it seems like he is rude in that department when I read reviews. Edited to respond to owners response(pic of owners response): Oddly he brings up race! I did not see the sign until you told me that large bags were not allowed up stairs as I was heading up the stairs(3 steps in)! I actually was going to check it in. Remember I said oh, my wallet is in there and you said you just wanted the big bag and it will be behind the counter. Oh, how quickly you forgot that I was going to check it in AFTER your informed me of the rule. I decided against going up because of the stairs and I had no interest in anything you had. I stood in front of you the whole time by the door once you made me aware of your policy! You never spoke to my family until I was heading upstairs. If that was such a BIG policy, that would be one of the first things you mentioned, along with % off throughout the store, etc. You know...CUSTOMER SERVICE! Instead you were NOT friendly. Calling my 16 year old(not saying its not possible) a liar is so cute. Yet, she was not aware of what took place downstairs. She provided me with those details after I told her WHY I didn't not go upstairs. Please work on your customer service. I am sure the negative ones are not just one offs. When I first walked in I was a little nervous/intimidated because i thought the cashier who greeted me would bombard me with questions & offering help, which I understand is considered good customer service but I like to be left alone until I really do need help then ill go ask for it. He didn't bother me too much thank goodness, he just informed me about the extra 20% off they had & that there's also an upstairs. It was very organized & sized. After browsing downstairs I went upstairs & found some more items. There are dressing rooms both upstairs & downstairs. Was gonna go back down to try on thinking it would make the cashier more comfortable since there was no employee watching upstairs but I was lazy & I wanted to put back the stuff I tried on that didn't fit well. So I stayed upstairs & tried on things I got from that floor, put them back myself after seeing they didn't fit. Tried on the rest of the clothes from downstairs & put them back when I went back down. Ended up getting a Moschino mini skirt that was like sweater material for 94.50 after the 20% off on the tag then an extra 20% off (40% off tota). Also got these beautiful Giorgio Armani kitten heel/pumps for $147 after the 30% off in the tag plus the extra 20% (50% off total). Both pieces were in excellent condition and the skirt came with the original tag as well! Dont forget there's also tax but still a good deal. The cashier (im assuming owner) and his coworker who appeared later were very nice and not pushy. I will definitely be coming back probably once a month to treat myself to more good finds. read more

I have to say, this is one of the best consignment shop I've ever been to. I feel like other ones around the neighborhood are a lot more expensive and I wouldn't be able to find deals and get the same price as La Boutique Resale. It's not hard to find, located near Central Park on the 2nd floor. Jonathan greets you with a warm smile and let's you freely shop to your hearts content. The different selections from Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chanel, etc, you name it all. I even walked in when they had a nice sale (20% off certain items). Found a great pair of Prada heels, Chanel jacket, and this french brand jacket that my bf praised me with. Not only do they have clothes, jewelry, shoes, bags, scarves, etc, they have your whole outfit here! This is definitely the place to go to if you need a whole outfit for work or an evening gown event. Best part was after scanning the racks on the 2nd level there was another level on top of it with even more clothes and accessories. read more

And the owner just told me "you shouldn't consign clothes if you don't like the contract [which holds them free from responsibility, even if the clothing is stolen]." Loooove this place. If you are looking for a solid deal on fashion, you have to go to la boutique. They have a fabulous selection of Chanel, Etro, and Missoni. Beyond that, they have the most suits of any consignment place I've been to - NYC or otherwise. They rigorously examine all items that come in so all items are in good condition. My first time in, I got an Alberta Ferretti dress for $120, a creme silk St. John blouse for $60, and a virgin wool Dolce & Gabbana jacket for $75. There are deals to be had. I almost got an Oscar de la Renta skirt for $30, but it was too tight. Be sure to check upstairs and downstairs. More deals & discounts are upstairs, but downstairs is the most recently acquired merchandise. I have also consigned here and the process is easy and efficient. read more

I typically go in when Frank is there because he is beyond patient and totally fantastic to work with! I just love him. I always pass by this store but never really go in but one day after work I just felt compelled to go in. The staff was nice and so helpful. The woman in the back saw I was holding something off the rack and she offered to start a fitting room for me (which is perfect!) I tried on the item and fell in love but I didn't expect to buy anything so I didn't have cash on me. They allowed me to put the item on hold with a deposit to hold the item. They were really nice and they have such a wide selection! I love the designers in the store but my favorite item they carry are minks! The mink vest I bought was a steal compared to what furriers are selling it for! This store does have a certain clientele and there's no shame in that! Plus all the items in the store are in great condition, so you pay for what you get. I definitely will be visiting again! Consignment is a tricky business. There are a million places to shop and usually the sneaking dread that you're not getting an authentic piece or that you're paying too much. Not so here at La Boutique Resale which has been in business for TWENTY YEARS with an impeccable reputation. This store is small but packed - so packed that some of the racks are hard to pick through. The clothing selection was good; there's a decent mix of vintage and newer stuff. They had a lot of new with tags deadstock. The salespeople working were very nice; I felt encouraged to try on as many things as I wanted and take my time. As a tourist, I also enjoyed the entertaining conversation between the clerk and a tiny, old rich lady selling jewelry. I was introduced this place by my friend as a lovely second hand clothing store. I'm small (5.1 feet) and always need to find XS or petit size. This place has variety of sizes from XS to large and is very organized so it's easy to find clothes that fit your size. I found a brand new top from Armani at 1/6 of its retail price.
