Really cool vintage store with unique pieces. It has a high price point though. On the bright side you will find one of a kind items.

Walked in today off the street and immediately noticed the icy air of total indifference to my presence in the store. The young woman who buzzed me in looked annoyed because I didn't immediately hear the click of the door opening. She, nor the young man eating his lunch, never acknowledged my presence, never greeted me, didn't offer help, literally never LOOKED UP FROM THEIR PHONES. I wonder if the treatment would have been the same if I "looked" differently? Perhaps they assumed that I wasn't worth their time, or perhaps they're just horrible at what they do. Either way, absolutely terrible experience I couldn't get out of there fast enough. read more

My daughter had a horrible experience shopping at this boutique. Her aunt took her shopping to find a dress for her Sweet Sixteen, she found a dress and asked to try it on, the woman working then told her she could not just try it on for fun (which my daughter had not said). Then took the dress from her and put it back on display. After my daughter told me this I called the boutique and spoke to the woman that did this, she stated they didn't own the dress and they would need to know for sure that she would purchase it in order for her to try it on. Then to further insult, she stated the price like we could not afford it. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have never experienced this type of behavior at a boutique and I am furious that my 15 year old, African American daughter had to. Please avoid this place at all costs! read more

If you're a student of fashion or have a love for fashion history, this stunning store is for you. These goods are "vintage" in the way a fine, well-aged Bordeaux is vintage. Grouped by era, and given an additional new label identifying them as having been part of "New York VIntage", a look through the clothes on offer here is like a stroll through the decades. You can immedciately spot the 60's era section from color and pattern alone but the pieces go way further back than that. Each piece here is immaculate in condition and presentation. This is truly the best that vintage has to offer, with prices corresponding accordingly. The difference between this place and some others that define themselves as vintage is that here you could leave with a piece you would endeavor to treat gently, always hang after wearing, and deign to preserve for future generations. You would wear a dress from here to an event, not to the flea market. If you're not into this level of vintage collecting (I am not) this shop still merits your attention. You can stroll back through history and see the best of what's left. According to the helpful and welcoming man in the store, even Lady Gaga has purchased from here. I am giving this a high rating because even though I did not buy anything, the quality of clothes is pretty amazing if you're into high quality, rare vintage. The store has pretty pieces of clothing, and each article of clothing has a tag that is labeled with a short description of it (e.g.: black ruffled dress with a red brooch, made by Yves St. Laurent) and if applicable, the year that the garment was made. There are also a lot of handbags, jewelry, and hats. I was especially fond of the hats because some of them looked like they came straight off a flapper's head back in the 1920's. :) In conclusion, wonderful vintages, HOWEVER! Do not come here looking for a bargain because these pieces definitely went up to $1,000+ !! read more

DO NOT enter this store unless you are prepared for a thorough going over/ assessment by owner and staff. Unless you are oh so maavelous, trust me, you will leave quickly, feeling like trash. It was a 90degree day and I was dressed down. How could they know my net worth which is substantial?? My 16 yr old drama student was quickly admonished for touching a McQueen bearing no signage, and I heard a warning behind me and about me "Move that stuff. I don't want HER touching it". The horror! The absolute horror!! --beware, fellow travelers. Live is short. There is much fun to be had in life, but its not here. read more

I had a similar experience to Leslie M. below. They do have a beautiful selection of clothing, but I specifically went to New York Vintage in search of a cocktail hat for a red carpet event in LA. The "older gentleman" in the back pointed me to the hats that were on pegs near the ceiling. Not a great selection of what I was looking for but I tried on a few. The prices were in the ballpark of what I wanted to pay so price wasn't a problem, the lack of selection was. He asked me if I was going to be around on Friday since I could try the flea market across the street. Since I had read that comment here, I was not terribly surprised but I was still highly insulted. I am in my late 50s and was wearing a Neiman Marcus leather jacket and a Cole Haan bag - not exactly looking like a deadbeat. Maybe it was the Macy's shopping bag I had? A sure sign of the lower class, eh? Back in the day I worked in the Gucci boutique at a very high-end Philadelphia shop that catered to the Main Line crowd (Princess Grace was a customer!). Early on I learned not to judge a book by its cover. My best customer often came in looking like she just rolled out of bed and then proceeded to drop a few grand on handbags, shoes,etc. And that was when a few grand was real money. The staff at this store has a long way to go in the customer service department. They might sell more if they treated people properly. read more

Walking around manhattan I stumbled upon a few vintage stores on 25th street and decided to pop into this one. Before even stepping in you can tell they have some great pieces. I walked in and was greeted by a girl at a desk managing the pandora station then greeted by an older gentleman standing in the back. I was never asked if I was looking for something in particular or if I needed help. While looking at a rack of coats the gentleman proceeded to say, "Have you been to the flea market across the street? They have the good stuff, and it's two floors." Umm, wtf? Are you telling me I can't afford anything in your shop and therefore I should visit the flea market across the street? Dude I have been inside of your store for less than 5 minutes and don't even know what I am looking at..... I can have a very short fuse when it comes to things like this. So instead of going a-wall on him I simply replied, "No actually I haven't gone, but thanks for letting me know maybe they'll have some better stuff" and walked right out. Dude - don't judge a book by its cover. Just because I may not be wearing a mink coat when I walk into your shop doesn't mean I can't afford something in there. Perhaps this is why they have such great inventory and don't sell anything. Save some cash and go check out the flea. read more

Absolutely gorgeous selection of exquisite vintage clothing. This is very high-end stuff, so don't come here looking for a bargain. But it's the perfect place for a unique dress for a special occasion, or some amazing accessories and jewelry. Real talk. New York Vintage is THE ultimate source for vintage couture fashion. An industry secret, NYV is both a retail shop (downstairs) and an archival collection (upstairs), featuring museum quality fashion and one of a kind pieces. Walking in here is a fashion junkie's dream come true. Plus, the customer service there is amazing. Family run, NYV has the most welcoming and charming atmosphere. The owners three darling little girls play in the store sometimes and the sales associates are fantastic and well knowledgable. I'm not quite sure where anyone can come off saying anyone at NYV is snobby. The owners are the kindest, most down to earth people I know in NYC. That said, they're busy. For god sakes, they've got Rachel Zoe and Anna Wintour and Saudi Princesses shopping in there. I think what some people may mistake as snobbishness is truly just busy, bustling New York City charm. I for one think this is the best vintage store I've ever been too. And the upstairs archive will blow your mind. Holy vintage! read more

BEAUTIFUL garments, I would live in this store if I could. The gowns are so gorgeous here and there are so many unique vintage collections. The prices are fair for what your getting but by no means are you going to find a regular cheap thrift store score, they are real vintage items that are priced accordingly. As an industry professional, I often do my styling pulls from New York Vintage, especially when I need unique, one-of-a-kind, show stopping pieces! From museum garments to the earliest of McQueen, Chanel and Westwood, I can honestly say that NYV is a a fashion lover's paradise! What had begun as a professional relationship, has now bled into my personal life and become an outright addiction! Let's just say that when you are able to pull a vintage thigh high boot from Tom Ford's final YSL collection, you know that you have a good thing. The retail (first) floor houses a plethora of designer garments and accessories that are shockingly well priced! Chanel jackets for under $1,000, and a wall of bohemian dresses ranging from $200-$1,500 are some of my favorites, but let's not forget the shoes! Ranging from vintage Bottega Veneta flats, to Miu Miu sequined pumps, there is something for everyone, and again at some of the fairest prices I have seen on the market! The staff was super friendly and helpful and loved talking about the pieces they have there in the store. These garments have amazing histories! They have a lot of really old (like 1960s chanel bag the popular chanel 2.55 reissue is based on) items that are hard to find elsewhere plus they have a huge archive of incredibly rare designer runway pieces that get used in fashion shoots etc. the prices are high but it is nyc & most pieces are one of a kind. read more

I was pulled into the store because of its beautiful window display... who can ignore a glittering roaring 20's gown? They buzzed me in the front door and I began perusing. It was a nice selection of designer vintage at a slightly steep markup. But, that's what you get when walking into a place that curated in NYC. After about 10 minutes of me looking, a sales associate passed me and dismissively said "The store is closed". Just like that. She said this without so much as eye contact or apology. Meanwhile, I was holding a pair of Chanel mules that I was interested in purchasing. But, I was so taken aback by her rudeness I immediately left the store... I still can't stop wondering: why buzz me in only to kick me out? Also a little background: I work in the luxury fashion industry and am an avid vintage lover/shopper. I walked into this store decked out in vintage silk and by no means looking frumpy. I'm not sure why I was deemed unworthy to shop there, but the message was loud and clear. Honestly a pretty decent mix of classic and interesting pieces. Prices are ok, but if you're willing to hunt nyc has plenty better to offer. Customer service appears to be unknowledgeable and unfriendly, which makes it feel like you're at a crowded forever 21, instead of an empty vintage shop. See my money never. read more

much tinier than expected, new york vintage is nonetheless a lovely gem of a place. i was on the hunt for something to wear to my wedding and while they had a very eclectic offering of fancier frocks, there wasn't anything quite up to bridal par. they have an incredible array of vintage shoes, all typically for the smaller-footed. their hats are absolutely amazing and for the quality of them, very well-priced. their jewelry cases house some remarkably gorgeous things, including a huge, emerald-cut topaz ring that i have been lusting after for quite some time. i imagine this is the kinda place you should troll on the regular to find some well-curated, nice vintage pieces. read more

If you're looking for something extremely unique, they have it. All of their sales associates know the store up and down and are super friendly and knowledgeable on the various decades and styles. Looking for an asymmetrical Yohji Yamamoto jacket? They'll walk you straight to one. A 70's YSL smoking jacket? They pluck one straight from the racks. I read the previous reviews, and I can tell you there was no rude man (or woman). I was not dressed well, and the woman who I believe is the owner was an angel to me. I was on a quest to find any Vintage coin to buy for my young son's collection and had been striking out around town. She went out of her way to go to her storage upstairs and spent quite a while.. when she returned she had three nice old coins in her hand for me including a liberty dollar, and a kennedy coin. She would not accept any money from me! In the meantime, her associate invited me to look around and I did so. It's a very impressive collection of beautiful high end couture pieces. The store is attractive and well organized. I will definitely take a shopping trip again next time I come to NYC! read more

I bought a wonderful piece that was handmade. They've got lay a way system and I'm totally satisfied.

Be prepared to spend at least $1000 for a dress here. But the pieces are true vintage, so they are worth their price tags. The interior is lovely. I wish they had a full-length mirror in the dressing room I used, but they did have a tri-fold mirror in the shop itself. Staff is very friendly and helpful. read more

I visited New York Vintage for the first time earlier this year and can't wait to go back. As soon as you enter you're surrounded by the largest collection of the most beautiful, unique clothes and accessories around. Everything is displayed so well and the room upstairs is exquisite...I'd love to spend more time there trying things on when I next visit. An added bonus is all the pictures of celebrities adorned in NY Vintage pieces and even some of the pieces themselves! Very cool. Plus, the owner, Shannon, is friendly and her staff is top notch. Wow. I read some of the comments regarding the rude staff and can for certain say that the problem was not them. I've been on every end of this industry (owning a company myself for more than half a decade now), and NYV not only has the greatest selection, but their staff is of the utmost professionalism. I have frequented NYV for 5 years, and nary a rude or poor experience was had. Actually, it was to the contray- especially by a woman named Megan who I have repeatedly gone back to in order to dress me. She is as good as it gets. Period. Both in style and service. Perhaps the bad experiences were due to the consumer because if I haven't had one in 5 years, that points only to a disgruntled (likely feeling entitled) customer. They do everything possible to accommodate their customers. Don't go around smearing companies or their staff for your poor behavior. It's unbecoming. Rock on NYV. read more
