I've been going to VIP since they opened and the four ladies who work there, Holly, Lisa, Lorna, and Mai have always done an excellent job. My office was just up Herndon Parkway at the time so they were really convenient but even now that I no longer work nearby and there are many nail salons closer to me, I still make that drive because I know that regardless of how bad my nails look when I walk in, whichever of these four ladies does them, they'll look good when I leave. I normally do not write reviews, positive or negative; however, I thought that this review was needed for any African American woman thinking about visiting this establishment for nail care or waxing services. There are many other nail salons in the area and I wouldn't be the first to admit that VIP Nail Salon and Spa is prejudice towards their African American customers. I've witnessed how "other" customers are greeted when they walk into the door and how they are very accommodating in ensuring that those customers receive a timely service. This is the third time that I've walked into VIP Nail Salon and Spa within an hour or two of them opening or closing and they have said that they can't accommodate me because they are "busy". I've also witnessed the dialogue with some of the "other" customers....very robust and personal but with their African American customers they are very short. Holly has been very snippy with me on a couple of occasions when asking her recommendation on nail colors. I believe that nail technicians should not demonstrate this type of behavior and although I live in Herndon, I would rather drive to Maryland to get my nails done knowing that the technicians value their African American customers. read more

I went there for the first time. The girl who did my nails (manicure and pedicure) did a good job. Can't say anything about that. BUT she was a little dry.... all the time she didn't say a word or mumble anything. If you are looking for a reliable, reasonably-priced nail spot in Northern Virginia VIP Nails is your best bet. For over 3 years I've driven 30 minutes from Arlington to come get my nails done at VIP. The staff is so friendly and I rarely have any difficulty making an appointment. I normally get my nails done by Mai but the other technicians always greet me by name when I come in. The basic mani and pedi include a paraffin wax dip, which would usually be an add-on at other salons. My dip manicures always last at least 3 weeks. Highly recommend! read more

Just left VIP Salon. I have gone a few times tho I am never fully satisfied with my results--it's close, therefore convenient. I walked in to an empty salon with multiple employees and they said they couldn't give me a manicure because they were too busy. I was surprised, didn't ask questions, and left knowing last time I got a pedicure, my skin was painted on and both my toes were smudged chipped before I got home. This place is probably the most disgusting nail salon I've ever visited! Cheap quality products are used. I don't trust Random chemicals and makeshift water bottles. Love this place...this is the only place that I'll go to get my nails done. I've been going for a couple of years now and every time I walk in I'm greeted by name by everyone working. I always get a pedicure and a gel manicure and the manicure lasts for at least 3 weeks (it would last for longer if my nails didn't grow so fast). The attention to detail the girls have here is fantastic (I tend to manage to smudge my pedicure at least once every three times I go to the salon when I'm walking from where I got my pedicure to where I'll get my manicure), instead of just painting another coat over the smudge, they do the entire nail again. I have been going to VIP nails on Herndon Parkway for years. They do a great job and everyone is very friendly. Every customer has individual utensils that are stored in a plastic box with their name on them and the salon is extremely clean. I always book my appointments ahead, but have noticed many walk-ins who are willing to wait will get service. I have seen negative reviews for VIP nails at a different location. I never write complaints, but this is my first one because it is very complaint worthy. I will start off by saying, if you are African-American, do not give these people your money!! They do not respect African-Americans and therefore, I will no longer patronize this establishment. My daughter and I went here to have pedicures done. I had an appointment with Holly. My daughter and I sat next to each other and the owner comes over to us and ask, "How old is your daughter?" She responded that she was 20 and they made a comment that she looked very young. About 15 minutes passed and Holly looks at my daughter and ask "WHERE IS YOUR DADDY?" Now, there was no conversation beforehand that led to this question. So why she felt she could ask this is beyond me since we are not friends, cool like that, BFFs, or anything along those lines. I then asked her, is that a question you ask everyone? Is that a question you ask white customers or only African-Americans? If we have already established my daughter is a grown adult, why are you asking about her daddy? She obviously thinks African-American women create and raise children on our own!! I thought the question was rude and I told Holly just that. At the end of the service, I didn't react angrily and I paid for the service. I told her she will not be receiving a tip for her rude question. I am just going to put it out to all the African-American women that go here, they do not respect us if they can make such a rude comment, and think it is okay. I will never go here again. My experience here has been great! They have the biggest selection of gel colors then any of the other places I've been to in this area. All of the technicians that have done my nails did a awesome job. I get gel and they always last 3 weeks they would last longer but my nails grow out too fast. I have been going to VIP for a few years now... The owners are sisters and their Mom is frequently at the shop. They are a family-friendly shop. They have 3 large screen TVs. Soft music plays in the background when the TVs are off. Bebe was my favorite tech for a long time. But then Mai stepped up and she is now who I prefer. The shop is clean with lots of natural light, The techs are fairly friendly and they minimize their use of foreign language. I've never had a problem with parking, but I heard that it's slowly becoming a problem. They provide lots of the standard services - brows, legs, bikini, manis, pedis, etc. They have a nice polish selection. They are moving away from the "personalized tool boxes". I haven't seen them use the boxes in quite some time. More and more, I'm finding it difficult to simply walk-in. Appointments are becoming necessary in the summer months. A couple of times, I couldn't get in because the wait was longer than 60 minutes. Over the holidays, they used to give you a discount... But I didn't see that last Christmas. I should have read the reviews prior to going here. I arrived when the place didn't have any other customers but 6 technicians who took about 5 minutes of debating if they would provide me with service or not. I thought perhaps a large party was expected but by the time I left I discovered it was purely because I'm not white. I could expand upon this but it would make this review pretty long. More importantly there's a sanitary issue. My technician made my cuticles bleed which ok, it happens sometimes. However my nails wouldn't stop bleeding. When the antiseptic and tissue didn't solve the issue the technician ignored it; proceeding to put my bleeding hand in the commonly shared paraffin wax and further massage the lotion now mixed with my blood over my hands. I was just ready to leave and didn't want to cause any conflict by saying something that may potentially escalate their disposition towards people of color. I won't ever return. read more
