I originally had a 4-star review for this business as the prices are good for the area and the quality of the manicure. After awhile the quality and service of this salon has significantly gone downhill. The owner, Christy, is the main problem. She has inconsistent pricing, shady business practices, poor technique, and an awful attitude. I have never met anyone in my life to be so aggressive for literally no reason. A scenario that caused me to stop going to Herndon nail spa: 1. I consistently got Dip powder for years until my main technician rage quite (per Christy). The other technicians were unable to get the same lasting quality that my OG technician could do so I decided to start doing acrylic nails. Christy started doing my nails going forward due to the other techs not being trained. The website listed the cost as $45 which I always budgeted for. Christy insists that customers pay via Venmo and "never" put anything related to nails on the payment notes (she clearly is trying to evade taxes). Ok, fine, I pay via Venmo because I don't want to get yelled at on a Saturday morning. I purposely only have the $45 + 25% tip on my Venmo as my account has gotten hacked before, so I only have the amount needed per appt in my Venmo account. For whatever reason, the last 3-4 times I went to see Christy the price of the nails increased by $5-$10 then $12 then doubled. According to Christy it was because of the "shape" note, the shape was an inconsistent squoval shape. Nor did I ask for a special shape so I am unsure why she felt the need to do a "special" shape in the first place. Not that it looked nice either way. During the visit where I paid a mysterious, extra $10, Christy felt the need to openly mock customers for "only tipping $2" and for being "stingy". I was genuinely flabbergasted as I believe service workers deserve quadruple what they are paid. I have worked as a service worker for the better half of a decade so I know what it can be like. Fast forward to the end of the appointment, Christy was notably louder indicating the cost of the service. I turned around to her and said "oh the cost went up? Its $55 now?" and she responded with "no, the shape". Again, the shape was squoval and I specifically asked for a basic non-labor-intensive shape lol. Ok, I venomed and left, realizing after the fact, that I was the one she was mocking about the $2 tip! I was genuinely horrified lol! She must have felt that I stiffed her the previous appt when, in reality, I intended to tip 25% but ended tipping significantly less since apparently the cost was $10+ more than listed on my appointment booking and I genuinely do not recall her telling me the price increase. She increased the cost of the service for literally no reason other than greed and again without my knowledge. But what is most astonishing is that she felt comfortable enough to openly mock her customer(s), who had been coming to her for YEARS, to her face, in front of a "full house" on a Saturday morning. Again, she insists on customers paying via Venmo and gets enraged when people try to tip on card because she doesn't want to pay taxes on it. So again, I am already going out of my way to accommodate her. If she would just allow customers to pay via card and provided a receipt, there would be significantly less confusion. Ultimately, if you want cheap but decent-looking nails this is your place. You will most likely have at least 2 cuticles ripped but your nails will look nice and last at least 2 weeks which can honestly be hard to find. If you care more about ethical business practices and transparent pricing, I do not recommend this place one bit. I am a strong-willed person and even I felt uncomfortable in Christy's presence. Color, shape, size, or anything in between, you will not be treated with respect at this establishment. read more

I booked an online appointment with this location almost a month in advance. I booked with Tracy at a specified time and was quoted $92 for a gel mani & pedi. I was disappointed when I got to the counter (15 minutes ahead of my scheduled booking time) to hear one of the ladies working trying to convince me to use another technician instead of the one I specifically booked for her reviews. After about 3 times of me saying I wanted Tracy as my technician, then they worked out how to move Tracy off of another client to cover the services I booked online. In terms of the service that Tracy provided, I think the attention to detail when it came to the aesthetic of the nails was sorely lacking. She basically did not put enough quality into shaping the nails & ensuring even & clean distribution of nail polish which honestly is one of the main reasons I am leaving this review. I had to be very explicit in telling her to evenly cut nails & shape them and I feel like I never usually have to do so with experienced technicians. I think she needs more training when it comes to actually painting the nails but when it comes to all the other add ins (massage, scrub, cuticle ietc removal, callous removal) she did very well. I really really enjoyed the pedicure from her due to her strengths of the massage & other non nail design items. Once I checked out, my total ended up being $123 for a gel mani & pedi, an difference of $31 from what was quoted on the online booking site. I would not return to this location generally speaking since the ambience was not as relaxing as I would have liked, the online booking portal does not align to their in store prices & availability, the technicians seem under experienced, & the services are overpriced for the quality you get. read more

This is after two separate visits. The first visit was a similar situation as the second which led to my final opinion on this place. I made an appointment with a highly recommended tech. I arrived to my appointment 10 minutes early, picked out my color, and was ready to go by my appointment time. I was seated in the pedicure chair within 5 minutes of my appointment time, however I was not seen by anyone until 35 minutes into my appointment time. To make it even worse, the tech that was ready to service me wasn't even the tech I made my appointment with. I understand things get hectic but this seems to be a pattern here. What is even the point of making an appointment if it's not at or around (within 5-10 minutes) the time or with the tech I made the appointment with? I politely declined service the second time, as it was not going to be with the tech I requested and my mom was already on the painting portion of her pedicure! Editing to add that the woman who did my mother's pedicure was not the same woman I booked an appointment with for her either. The one thing that kept me coming back after the similar poor experience the first time is that the service itself is nice- they do a good job and are attentive to your feet etc. So only go if you don't mind waiting and have hours to spend at this place. read more

Have you ever gone to a business and just knew they didn't appreciate you supporting them? That's exactly how I felt at Herndon Nails. First of all, the woman who sits by the door (maybe the owner?) is just mean and cold. If she is the owner, she seriously needs a better attitude toward the people who keep her business open. When I walked in, all she said to me was, "Wash your hands and pick your color." Meanwhile, when other women of a different complexion walked in, she greeted them warmly with a "Hello." As I was getting my nails done, I watched her ridicule a customer who was clearly getting tips for the first time -- speaking to her like she was a child and telling her to stop watching her own nails being done. Tammy did my nails (this was my second time with her), and it was honestly painful. She pushed, pulled, and twisted my hand and fingers. No position I held my hand was ever right. Then, when it came time to pay, the woman at the door said, "You no have cash?" -- in a tone that felt accusatory, as if suggesting there was something wrong with me paying by card. It was very clear that customers of a certain complexion were treated with a lot more friendliness and respect than I was. To top it off, I had to go somewhere else afterward to get my nails reshaped and polished properly. I do not recommend Herndon Nails. Go support a shop were ALL people are appreciated. read more

AlI came here based on the many good reviews I saw on Google, but I should have checked Yelp too. I got dip/SNS service done for the first time since having monthly service elsewhere (pre pandemic). I left disappointed and will probably drive back to my old salon in Fairfax to redo my nails completely. I want to say that the ladies were very friendly and had me in and out within an hour. I wish friendliness alone determined the outcome of my appointment. I am not sure if the woman who helped me is not used to SNS or if the salon doesn't do SNS a lot, but overall the SNS technique was poor and resulted in the bad nail job I got. I would rather not return to have them redone here though, because my experience included more pain than I have ever had with SNS before. Please let me explain and elaborate. To begin, I noticed that my tech did a lot of the dipping for several nails consecutively/simultaneously. At first I thought she was just really good and fast, but in hindsight I realize it negatively affected the quality of my nails. (For context, at other salons, the techs will pre-treat and dip nails one at a time - it takes longer but ensures a more even application.) She would prep 3-4 nails at a time and then would quickly dip them all back to back, but some would get double dipped while others would only get one dip. So not only did I have nails of varying thickness, but several nails were WAY too thick and ALL of my nails had too much product on them overall. This resulted in most of the skin around my nails being almost glued to the dip powder. I saw that my nails were quickly turning into a visibly unnatural thickness, but figured she would even things out after she finished dipping my nails and waited for that stage of the procedure. I think I counted 3-5 layers of dip powder on my nails (3 should have been enough for all nails). Then came the part of things where it was time to even out the nails with the drill. I think she realized that she had overdone the powder on all my nails and had not left any space between the heavily layered dip powder and my skin/cuticles. She did take down some of the overall thickness, but still left things overall pretty chunky looking. Then, she used the drill to correct the areas directly touching my cuticles. For all 10 of my fingers, she manually drilled the excess dip powder off my cuticles and artificially added a "border" between the powder and my skin in the areas where the two were glued. Yes, that meant she took the drill to my cuticle on ALL my fingers. I yanked my hand back and audibly reacted several times, but it did not affect her approach. My cuticles we're burning and tender by the time I was done with my appointment, and this is the main reason I would not return here even to fix my nails. When she finished up and added the cuticle oil and lotion, it BURNED. I gave $10 tip even though I really should have spoken up, but I really did not want any more drills near my cuticles. I just wanted to leave. Once I got home and was able to examine things more closely, I realized that the overall job had more mistakes than I realized, including the fact that my thumb nails were not even filed straight! Again, the excess of product used was glaringly obvious and I also ended up taking my tweezers and excavating even more excess dip powder from under and around my nails. I attached pictures that hopefully show the inconsistencies around the nail beds and cuticles, which show that even after she drilled and drilled and drilled, some residue of the initial over application still remained. I am leaving 2 stars instead of one only because the techs did seem friendly and they honored my appointment time. read more

I'm not sure who is rating this place 5 stars. Maybe they haven't been to a real nail spa. This was nothing close to a spa experience. Online a scheduling is a plus! They earned stars for that and I wish more nail places had this for their clients. The ability to a schedule, reschedule and cancel is nice. I got a spa pedicure. The water was barely like warm. I had to keep asking them to make it warmer. They didn't put any salts in the water for my feel. They just soaked in plain water. The nail tech started to work on my feet and said "Oh my goodness your nail are too thick what do you eat?" Lady, we are already off to a bad start, just do your job. Then she sees my nails and goes where did you get them done. I tell her. She said you should come here. I'm thinking the way we are starting out is not helping me with plans for a future visit. So then she asks if it is nail or dip. Now, while she is grilling me on my nails. I'm trying to relax. I'm trying to read a book. Next thing you know she is trying to debate me on what kind of gel I have on my fingers. Ma'am can you just work on my feet and let me relax??? There is more, so my big toes do not lay flat, she keeps pressing it down and it keeps popping up. She said, "you need to put your toe down! I can't paint it like this!!" Oooh she was mad mad. I just looked at her. I'm a regular with nail places and ain't no one had a problem paint my toes....so the inadequacy was all you nail tech lady. Okay, so it was time to dry my nails. The places is so small that we had to do musical chairs. I went to pay and she printed out the receipt and I I started to write the tip. She said oh we only take cash tip. I was like okay, but I only had $2 cash so I pulled it out and she said oh you can go ahead and put the tip on the card. She did that because what I wrote on the receipt was higher than the cash. Oh so you do take tips on the credit card. Anyway, I was over her and Herndon Nails. My nerves are not relaxed instead they are frazzled by the experience. I was so frustrated with the experience that I didn't even look at my nails until I got home. They look like I did them. TERRIBLE -- Waste of Time and Money I redeemed a Groupon for a Signature Manicure. As expected, I was offered a paraffin treatment for an additional cost -- sure, no problem, I paid the additional $5. After I paid for the paraffin treatment with a $10 bill and asked for singles back, is when I believe everything went downhill.  The manicurist answered a phone call while painting my nails. I had to point out on several nails that the edges weren't covered and to add more polish to two fingers that had glitter. I was brought to the back area to the drying station -- with only a light, no fan. Since I did not have gel polish, I asked where the fans were. I was told the lights were special UV lights and that my nails would be dry in 5-7 minutes. I had a feeling my nails wouldn't be dry in that time frame, so I sat there for 15 minutes before checking my nails. Luck would have it and I smudged my thumbnail. I went to the front to have the manicurist fix it, which he did, but said that he would put a top coat later.  After sitting for 40 more minutes, I realized I had to get going. By then my nails should have been dried -- one would think. NOPE...three nails got messed up as I got into the car. They don't have the proper equipment and their nail polish is watered down -- never going back! read more

I would never recommend this nail salon to anyone. I went there twice within a month and the second time was worse than the first. Both times I have gotten and very simple chrome nail and both chipped within the week. The second time my nails chipped within 48 hours. I tipped them very well for awful service. I've come here before multiple times and had decent experiences (especially with Kristy who sits at the front behind the reception desk) but today when I came in for my appointment with Kristy, she already had someone at her station doing their nails. I was passed off to Lana, who did an okay job, but I should have fought harder to stay with Kristy. Lana was rough and didn't really seem to understand that I need my nails short and natural looking. These are longer than I usually get and look bulky/boxy and aren't really the shape I wanted or told her to give me. I really enjoyed my pedicure here by Krissy. She is easy going and listens to her customers. I've seen she follows strict COVID prevention guidelines such as checking temp of customers (which is perfectly fine with me as she making sure im safe and those around me), in addition to sanitizing the chairs and providing hand sanitizer to her customers. Her equipment is beautiful and new. She made sure to sanitize all of the bottles including the nail polish container after she was done with me. As I waited for my nailpaint to dry, i saw how much she was sanitizing the place. She does a great job with everything. I will be coming back. Made an appointment for a specific service and was told that the dip manicure would be just the same - they pushed hard to change my mind so I agreed to it. The final product was awful, the nails were so lumpy and had no shine. I now realize the reason they pushed for dip was that it was more expensive but also less time consuming. Had a good experience here during my gel mani ($36) appointment with Young. She helped me find the color I was looking for, painless job with clipping my cuticles and painting my nails. Conversation was flowing and I was in and out within 40 minutes without feeling rushed. My second visit wasn't nearly as good when I asked only for a polish change-- some nails were painted crookedly near the cuticle and they started peeling less than 2 weeks in. This spot is clean and was recently renovated. It's conveniently located in Herndon's old town and there's (free?) street parking nearby and a parking lot right next to the building. It's true what the other reviews say-- the owner has a bit of an attitude unless you're a loud soccer mom. He can't take your money with a smile or remember that he offered you 10% off on the phone as a first time customer, but does remember to ask "I thought you wanted a pedi too?" A little respect and good manners go a long way as a business owner, just saying. There are better spots in Herndon a mere 5 minutes drive away. read more
