My son had his first annual visit with Dr. Mahadevan and it was a wonderful experience. There was no wait time which was refreshing after long wait times at Blue Fish the last 4 years. She was so thorough and didn't make us feel rushed. I had been looking for a more holistic doctor and I'm so grateful to have found her. I would recommend this practice to anyone. Dr Wolens used to stand for freedom of medical choice which is why we chose this practice. He has since started requiring that everyone sign the AAP refusal form to delay/refuse any vaccines. I was debating signing since I wasn't comfortable with the language in the form and we went to see another pedi in the interim. Now VIP Pediatrics refuses to see my children after we have been going there for many years. We were never given any heads up that they would kick us out of their practice. We've never had any issues except for this and I was told since I had an issue with the form they anticipate I will have more issues in the future and they do not want us back. Very sad situation what this practice has come to and the way my family was treated after going there for so long. read more

Just needed to take a moment to rave about this wonderful practice. We have been patients of VIP since the day my oldest child was born in 2015. We have NEVER had one second of doubt that we made the best choice for our family. They have been wonderful since day 1 and always go above and beyond for their patients. They always have same-day sick appointments, usually with multiple doctor options and we have never waited more than 5 minutes to be seen. Just recently my kids were having some alarming symptoms. We were seen right away, lab work taken and medicine prescribed on a Friday. We were called to check on the kids on a SATURDAY and followed up with lab results on a Monday morning. The kids were then able to be seen again that same morning. This type of care is truly rare and exceptional. We love VIP pediatrics and know it is one of the best choices we have made as parents for our kids. read more

Be warned, this practice has extremely inflexible policies. I scheduled a 18 month well check up for my daughter, and had to re-schedule due to a work emergency. The appointment was for 3pm, I called at 10am that morning to reschedule and was informed I could not. I was quite taken aback when the woman explained it is their policy to not allow new patients to reschedule if they can't make the first appointment. I expressed frustration that I was not informed of the "policy" when making the appointment, it was never mentioned. It is hard enough as a working parent to juggle competing work/school/life schedules, and apparently this pediatrician office as no ability to be flexible. You have been warned!!! I did receive a call that evening from Dr. Wolens, who left a voicemail. He said they have found that this policy works because if you cancel clearly the practice cannot "meet your needs". On the contrary, Dr. Wolens, it is your practice who can't be bothered to meet the needs of a busy working mom! ***Update 8/1/19: amazingly, I received a phone call today from a nurse at VIP, saying that Dr. Cohan had called in prescription for my daughter! What???? You refused to accept us as patients many months ago (see review above) but then kept my personal info on file anyway??? This office may not be very organized, so watch out! Very glad that we ended up with another small independent practice very nearby. Not happy that they kept my personal info. *** read more

I've had nothing but good to say about Dr. Wolens, Dr. D Davis and the entire staff!!! My oldest child has been goIng to VIP since he was a baby and is now in college! My severely premature twins stayed in the NICU for 2 months and I found Dr. Wolens taking notes multiple times at their incubator just to be up to date with their condition. I will never forget that! True dedication! Dr. D has also built a great relationship with my twins who are healthy 10 yo now. Choosing a pediatrician is one of the most important decisions you'll ever make. It involves the care and well being of your child(ren) and can/will have an immeasurable impact on their future health. Dr. Wolens is incredible in every aspect. He's professional, personable, caring and will truly do any and everything he can to ensure your little one is well and that you have peace of mind. He's very friendly and enjoyable to talk to and is just a good person all around. He's also an excellent doctor and that is the most crucial of all requirements in a pediatrician. Whether it's your first, second or following child, there will always be questions and concerns even when they are healthy. Even if you have a medical background you will still have concerns as a parent. Dr. Wolens will answer all questions no matter how many you have or how "over worried" the questions seem. He never acts condescending or impatient. Dr. Wolens takes time with each patient and parent and thoroughly explains check-up procedures, what to expect in milestone development, vaccinations and will go over any necessary information to keep you up-to-date and informed about well child care. Open and clear communication is a must for any type healthcare and that is what Dr. Wolens believes, too. His manner with children is very kind and he has a way of putting kids at ease and making exams go smoothly and children like him. The office is well set up with separate waiting rooms for well and "under the weather" patients. The themes are fun for children and there is always a movie playing in each waiting room as well as an array of toys and books. The exam rooms each have their own theme that children will enjoy. These also have books and toys to keep kids occupied. Everything is entered into the computer and parents can access VIP Pediatrics's website to schedule and confirm appointments, update information, access their child's medical records and find out what vaccinations are upcoming, view required lab results, history, etc. Current and updated information about VIP Pediatrics is also posted as well as upcoming events such as the annual Flu Boo in October. The staff are also professional and courteous. My interactions with them have always been positive. If Dr. Wolens is unavailable, the nurse practitioner is also very good and will take her time to answer questions and thoroughly assess your reason for visiting and take care of things. VIP Pediatrics is impressive on all levels professional and personal. Not only will you and your child be treated like a person but your child will receive excellent quality care for staying healthy and that in itself is priceless. read more

The staff was professional and personable on the phone (I called several times) and in person. Dr. Wolens is amazing. Not only is he incredibly professional and thorough, but he is very personable, patient and kind. He let me ask as many questions as I liked and even answered questions I didn't have but we're essential. He was sweet to my 15 mo baby and at the end of our visit, she disregarded his "high 5" and gave him the sweetest hug instead! I love the location of the office, there is plenty of free parking and the office itself is adorable. There are plenty of children's books and educational toys like blocks, and the exam rooms are themed and also have toys and books that follow the theme. I did not feel like we waited very long at all, though Dr. Wolens apologized profusely for his tardiness! Most of all, what stood out to me was how thorough Dr. Wolens was when we covered my daughter's medical history. Rather than have me fill out a form on our family medical history, he went through it w me am clarified any vague questions. I've never done that w a doctor before so it was very refreshing. Lastly, this office does EMRs only so it's nice that all of my kids' records will be consolidated in one spot. This practice is also streamlined in that you can access your child's account online to ask a nurse or the doctor questions, view lab results, etc. overall, I was very impressed and I highly recommend! read more

Dr. Wolens, Nurse Dee, and the VIP Ped crew have been caring for my son for almost five years. I'll never forget how they calmed me when I brought my new, clearly jaundiced baby in to see them when he was just three days old (without an appointment). Long story, but the short version is I have appreciated the time, the expertise, and the sometimes tough love I've needed from a team who, like me, have dedicated themselves to others in a really great practice. We went here today for a 'well check' for my 20 month old son. The main reason we came in was to address my son's chronic diarrhea. Secondarily we wanted to make sure we had a great pediatrician for our new baby on the way, and a plan for my upcoming delivery as all of our children, so far, have had severe jaundice. I did tons of research trying to find a doctor who would accept the fact that we do not vaccinate our children. I found Dr. Wolen's name on several websites and even had a few friends recommend him as a great pediatrician. After looking at the review on here I was happy going in, confident that we would leave with a permanent pediatrician, and someone we could trust. Instead we were berated for our parenting choices. Not only did we get a lecture about the risks of not vaccinating our children, and how we were not only putting them at risk (for a list of diseases, yes, that he listed, as if I don't know what vaccines are available) but also others at risk (yes I already know ALL of the risks and benefits of not vaccinating). During his spiel I did interrupt him to tell him this decision was not taken lightly, and we understood what we were doing and the risks and benefits. He continued to talk over me, treating me like I'm a complete moron. He then pointed out my child's amber teething necklace. At first he was just stating how another patient had the same one. When my husband made a comment about 'wondering whether they worked' I said I thought that it helped, as well as the calcium supplements that the nutritionist had recommended. He rolled his eyes and looked at his assistant and laughed, as if I wasn't even in the room??!? Any time I mentioned anything about having a nutritionist or any holistic type of medicine they scoffed and rolled their eyes. I can't even count the amount of times this happened. When we got down to discussing my son's diarrhea and previous blood tests and possible allergies, he pretty much blew me off. He said that he would need all of my sons records (totally reasonable) before we could move forward. He also said that he wasn't willing to discuss the upcoming baby and possible jaundice because he needed to review my son's files and those decisions couldn't be made until the baby was born. This was not the response that we've had from our midwife team or from other pediatricians. Overall, as if you couldn't tell, I am completely disappointed in Dr. Wolen's and this pointless, time wasting visit. I respect the fact that doctors are taught to vaccinate and if I were to call a doctor and they refused to have me to their practice, I would accept that as well. Instead my time was completely wasted and I am emotionally spent. I left the office emotionally exhausted and cried for a good 15 minutes. I assume that if you agree with EVERYTHING that Dr. Wolen's believes in as a doctor, he would be an amazing doctor, as others have attested to. Unfortunately if you don't hold the same views or are holistic, anti-vax or anything of the sort, this is NOT the place for you. The only thing that was pleasant about this experience was the front staff. Unfortunately, I would never recommend this place to anyone because NO ONE should be made to feel like they don't know how to parent or make decisions for their own children or because they don't have a Phd they have no idea what they're talking about!!! read more

We have been seeing Dr. Wolens for over 6 years now, and I have nothing but good things to say about the practice. Yesterday my kids woke up with a fever. Since flu is on the rise, I wanted to make sure it wasn't that. I called the office and they were able to see my right at 9:00. We didn't have to wait at all (it's also nice they have separate well-kids and sick-kids waiting rooms), and Dr. Wolens sat with us for a long time to explain what kind of virus it might be and what the treatment options were. While we were waiting to figure out if it was the flu, he provided straight-forward, scientific information on how Tamiflu could help kids this age, but when I opted not to give them medication and just let it run its course (we later found out it wasn't the flu), he didn't pressure us or anything. His honesty as well as bedside manner is so refreshing amongst doctors, and I wish I had a doctor for myself who was as good. Several of his patient's parents have apparently already asked if he could be their doctor (he graciously said no). If you are in need of an EXCELLENT pediatrician, look no further. read more
