My experience with Westbrook Vet Clinic started out great - initially…read more Staff was really friendly and they were all excited about her, as they had never seen her breed before; a Black Russian Terrier. I then booked an appt. for her required second set of shots. (note: I spent quite awhile at that first visit, as what dog lover doesn't love to talk about their dog? LOL. I felt they were a bit 'heavy handed' about the insurance. But take it or leave it right? As it turned out - to get insurance for my dog; with a $250. deductible it would have cost me ONLY $500. plus per month. I just about fell on the floor. I was stunned that anyone could say that with a straight face. Seriously?!?! Obscenely ridiculous. I don't know anyone - with or without tons of money who would EVER consider paying such extortion-like prices.) However, the part that left me VERY UNIMPRESSED was that when I went in for my appt. (you know; pre-booked for that specific service?) The vet was friendly and examined her in a small exam room. He gave her the kennel cough nasal dosing and then proceeded to tell me that they 'were out' of vaccines. Sooooo NOT COOL!! But stuff happens and although I wasn't thrilled to have to return again; it was not the end of the world. Right? So, I return when the vaccines 'came in' and I was stunned to have a 'woman from the front counter' (what were her credentials? was she a vet tech? She didn't clarify anything) She just took her leash from me and promptly WALKED AWAY WITH MY DOG (not inviting me, the owner to follow or otherwise) she went into one of the exam rooms and passed thru the rear door (closing it behind her) I, of course followed, thinking 'what the heck are you doing lady?!?!' I open the rear door to their back room - where I said "Um, I want to be WITH my dog and SEE the vaccination" and there she was giving her the injection! Of course she may well have been a trained vet assistant but I'll never know! She was quite arrogant about the whole thing and acted like I was making a big deal out of nothing. I PAID for a physical exam and expected the VET to give her the injection. (I can go to G & E Pharmacy and obtain my own vaccinations for about $9 bucks. *** I have owned dogs forever and done this countless times in the past; when my pets were in great physical condition (you cannot do rabies yourself, but I had never taken any of my dogs out in the bush or forested areas so I never had rabies shots done) Needless to say, the 'in-stock' preparedness was a big FAIL but the 'woman-at-the-counter-walking-away-with-my-dog' (without explanation) was ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE. I have dealt with vet techs and have no problem. But in this case who knows what her training was? The ONLY reason I go to a vet is for 'THE VET'!!!! Never again. - TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR ANYONE - VERY POOR COMMUNICATION SKILLS They blew it, period.

I wish I could take back my decision to board my dog at Creekside. She was dropped off a happy,…read morefriendly and healthy 9.5 month old puppy... freshly groomed with her tail wagging. We picked her up 7-days later and did not even recognize her. She was angry, scared, damp and covered in mats. They had bathed her and there was still shampoo left in her fur. We gave her a bath at home and found a hot spot on her chest. I called Creekside the day after we picked her up and asked if there was anything we should know about our dog's stay as she was aggressive, hiding, scared and in bad physical shape. She wasn't eating or drinking. They mentioned they saw the hot spot the day before we picked her up - but failed to tell us when we did pick her up. I asked that they have their manager (in this case the vet who is affiliated) call. me. I also sent an email to their facility the day after we picked her up with the photos below. These photos were taken by the vet at an emergency vet visit on a Sunday August long weekend evening. This Emerg Vet told us there was no question this all developed while at the kennel and he would provide any write-up necessary. We spent 3-hours at an emergency vet. We stayed up until 4AM with a dog that was in so much pain she could not lie down. I did not receive a call. I did not receive an email. It is now Tuesday. Their actions suggest a lack of interest in the health and well-being of their guests. I have a $418 vet bill. I have a dog who is on 3 prescription drugs. I have a dog who was in 'excruciating pain' (our vets words) And we had to cancel our trip to the cabin due to her condition + plans with friends. I am sure this facility is a fun place for dogs... and I do not doubt that my dog had fun and received playful attention from the people who work there; however, there was no attention to the health and welfare of my dog. Disappointing. Especially given the ownership by a vet.

They brought out a king size dog bed bent in half with her food container in the middle and handed to me. The dog bed wasn't mine and I told them so. When I picked up the dog bed to claim the food container, it drained of pee. I assumed my dog slept on this bed and was not taken out on a regular basis. I was disgusted. I asked for her leash and they couldn't find it. My son confirmed that he had left the leash with them when he dropped off my dog. He attended the Creekside Boarding. They found the leash. I washed my dog and her food container when I got home. It took some time before she returned to her normal self. This place should be closed.

8 years ago we adopted a special needs dog named Berkeley. Berkeley had a spinal cord injury…read morerendering part of his back fused together. Berkeley could not do stairs but learned to "ski" down the stairs. He would lie down and sit differently than other dogs because he adapted to his injury. I was introduced to Larissa through a neighbour and when Larissa told me she was setting up a grooming shop in her home, I was delighted. I was anxious about taking Berkeley to a groomer because I wasn't sure he would be able to handle sitting for extended periods of time. As it turns out, Larissa became a neighbour and the convenience of taking my dogs for a walk to her shop proved to be invaluable. Larissa worked with Berkeley and they quickly found their rhythm. Like Berkeley, she adapted her grooming techniques so that he could be comfortable in the tub and on the table. When we adopted Berkeley, he came to us a sticky, matted, smelly mess of a dog. You would never have known he was a Shih Tzu. When I went to pick up Berkeley later that afternoon, I didn't even recognize my own dog! He was so happy, so handsome and loved his new haircut. Over the years, we adopted two more rescues, Japanese Chins named Belle and Toya. Both dogs suffered emotional trauma from being in a puppy mill and Belle especially was terrified of humans and specifically children. Larissa again learned to work with both dogs to make them feel safe. Larissa provides a safe, loving environment and has been extremely patient and gentle with all of my special needs dogs. I never worry that my "kids" will be locked up in kennels for hours or be further traumatized by their experience. As Berkeley aged, his body became more and more sensitive and arthritis kicked in. On a particularly bad day for Berkeley, he moved and squirmed and Larissa accidentally nicked him. She was immediately on the phone, advising me what happened, indicating that she had treated the cut (which was nothing serious) and asked if I wanted her to continue the groom or wait until a better day for Berkeley. She treated my boy as if he was her own dog. Sadly, Berkeley passed away on July 23, 2012. On June 2, 2013, Toya passed away suddenly at home due to a heart condition she was diagnosed with 3 months prior. In an extreme panic, I didn't know what to do and called Larissa, completely hysterical. Being neighbours, without hesitation, she came over immediately and attempted CPR but regrettably it was too late. Larissa spent the next several hours with my husband and me, providing comfort in our loss and then in pouring rain, drove us with our beloved Toya to Guardian Veterinary Clinic. Larissa has become family and gave of her personal family time to be with us when we needed someone most. I simply don't know of any groomer who would ever do this for a client. In the last month, we were gifted with an opportunity to rescue two more Shih Tzu dogs. Buttons is a 4 year old special needs dog that came from an abusive situation. Buttons is terrified of people and terrified of stairs and does not use them. Once again, Larissa has come through and has learned to find a way to help Buttons feel safe and calm and grooms him in a fashion that he feels comfortable, which I recently learned involved him refusing to stand on the table so she groomed him lying down! Our newest addition is a 2 year old Shiz Tzu named Bandit. He is full of energy and does not sit for long. He returned from the shop looking handsome and happy as ever. I would follow Larissa anywhere and if that meant moving to another city, I would seriously have to consider it. Larissa continues to take courses to improve her skills and spends time researching cuts so different breeds of dogs do get breed appropriate cuts. All 5 of our special needs rescues have been treated with love, respect, compassion and understanding. If ever there was a medical issue I needed to be aware of, Larissa brought it to my attention immediately. She never hides a nick, she tells me what kind of a day each dog had at the shop - were they nervous, did they have an accident, were they scared and I know that I never have to be concerned about their safety or care in the shop. Larissa has cared for my family for 8 years now and so long as she grooms, she will continue to care for my furry family in the years to come.

We've talked with Dan, Liam, and Monica mostly and they just love dogs and are really nice people - you can't say anything bad about people who are good to animals. They made me feel very safe with leaving her in their care. We started Roggy, our Great Pyrenees x Maremma here when she was about 4 months. We were looking for people who could help us get the recall down early as GPs are notoriously bad for recall. We wanted a dog we could take to the dog park and trust off-leash. She is 8 months now and has perfect recall. I'm not saying she has good recall, I am saying she has PERFECT recall. I attribute this all to The Leash Team. Especially over the winter where I was working a lot and they were the only ones taking her to the dog park. Basically what happens is they pick your dog up in a van with a bunch of other dogs and they all go to the park. They use whistle training, which we did too, but honestly Roggy doesn't need it anymore. When Roggy started, she was just a baby, so they let her go with the smaller dogs at first. They keep the puppies on a leash so they don't go too far. Now she can go where she wants, but at the start they keep them close. They also have GPS on their collars so if they do get lost, they can easily be found! I'll be using this service for the long term! I think the costs are reasonable. It's about $35 for a walk, but they go for like 2 hours sometimes longer. I think that's pretty good for an afternoon at the dog park! They also offer boarding - but it's actually boarding at their house. Dan, the owner, will take your dog to his house and look after them. I like that so much more than putting her in a kennel. We booked her a little vacation at their house while we get married. I'm sure she will have fun!
