Bob was awesome. He was very nice and a lot of fun. He knows the city and knows the history. He kept us laughing the whole time.

Somewhere in Branson, tucked behind the tourist shops and fudge factories, we decided to go full…read morenature mode and hit the Lakeside Forest Wilderness Area--which sounds way more intense than it actually is. I was half-expecting to see a bear with a banjo or a raccoon running a moonshine still. Instead, we got about 140 acres of surprisingly legit wilderness... with signs. Lots of signs. Branson knows how to label a rock. The trail started off innocent enough--wood chips, some chirping birds, a suspicious squirrel staring us down. Then came the stairs. Not like "oh look, a couple of steps," but 315 stone steps carved into the side of a bluff like Mother Nature was training for a StairMaster commercial. Whoever built these things must have been part mountain goat, part lunatic. Down we went, each step echoing with the soundtrack of my thighs weeping. Somewhere between Step 89 and existential crisis, we passed a little cave where I'm 83% sure a wizard lives. It was cool, literally and metaphorically. We didn't go in though--look, we respect magical real estate. At the bottom was a view of Lake Taneycomo so pretty it made me forgive the stair situation. There were trees, chirping birds, and a breeze that whispered, "Hey, good luck going back up." We lingered at a little waterfall trickle (emphasis on trickle--it hadn't rained much) and contemplated faking an injury to avoid the climb. Eventually, we powered back up, legs shaking, pride shattered, but hearts full. Or maybe that was just dehydration. Back at the top, we found a porch swing near the ruins of an old homestead, which felt like a reward from the hiking gods. If you ever wanted to swing gently while staring into the distance and pretending you're in a Nicholas Sparks movie, this is your spot. All in all, 5 stars would hike again. Just next time, I'm bringing hiking poles.

There are shows happening all day long, from live music and bluegrass to comedy and saloon-style performances. Depending on the season, there are also special productions throughout the park. It's nice to be able to sit down, take a break, and still feel like you're part of the experience. And since the shows are included with admission, it adds a lot of value to your visit. It's also a great spot if you have younger kids. There is plenty for them to do beyond just rides, including play areas, interactive attractions, and even a train ride. It's not one of those parks where little kids are limited. They can stay busy all day. The whole park has a really cool 1880s theme and is honestly one of the most beautiful theme parks I've been to. Between the shops, craftsmen, and scenery, it feels more like an experience than just rides. That said, be ready for a lot of walking. This park is very hilly and you will feel it by the end of the day. Lines can also get long during busy times. Overall, it's a really unique place with a ton to do for all ages. Between the shows, rides, and kid-friendly activities, you can easily spend a full day here and still not see everything.

The park has a lot of hills. Some of the restaurants closed early, wasn't sure if it was the time of year we were there or because it was a weekday. Food is okay in the park, nothing spectacular. Make sure to check out the cave tour!

Part of the taxes go for beautification of Branson. What do they do with the money?? The boardwalk and lake front are full of weeds, leaves and trash. For the 2 and a half days I was there...I saw a show every day. They're musical/broadway shows. I hate to say it's like a "poor man's" version of NYC broadway shows...but the entertainment reminded me of like, cruise type shows. And, for me...there's nothing wrong with that. I just think I'm a little jaded having grown up in NY and having seen shows like Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. But Branson is such a cool town regardless. The first day my father and I visited...they were having a free concert in the middle of town. The Platters, an old Motown musical group came on stage and sang "Great Pretender"! I absolutely love that song and my father grew up to Motown music so we were very happy. From there we bought concert tickets to a Motown show, and did a 50's themed musical show as well. There's other things to do in Branson as well for families. There's a replica Titanic cruise ship which you can tour. They have a Hollywood museum to explore. An American Bandstand musical theater. You can ride the Branson scenic railroad which is located in the heart of town. And you can walk around central/downtown Branson to buy souvenirs, trinkets, and t-shirts to take home. Downtown Branson has a quaint/small town type feeling and it was fun to explore the streets. The city of Branson reminded me of Gatlinberg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee...if anyone has ever visited those cities, I think you'd find similarities in all of them. Overall, I really enjoyed my time in Branson. The shows/concerts I saw were entertaining and truly brought out the real feel of what Branson, Missouri is all about. I would recommend visiting for a few days. My father and I drove from Memphis on a 3 city tour. But Branson has an airport which you can fly into. It's also located in the beautiful Ozark Mountains in Missouri.

We were able to bring in lunch, snacks, and drinks. We rented a double stroller at a cost of $28 which worked well for our 3 year old and our food and drink's containers. There are rides and activities for all ages. We really enjoyed the train ride, and the interactions during that ride. If you are elderly you may want to consider renting a motorized assistance device to make your park experience more enjoyable. Getting in to and out of the parking lot was a breeze.
