Along my journey, the fan shroud came loose from the core support, and the fan hit it, shattering the shroud and putting a hole in the radiator. I pulled off the highway and into the first parking lot that I could find. It wasn't until I got out of the car to inspect the damage that I realized that I had pulled into Becker Auto Towing and was in Minnesota. Although they had closed several hours before my breakdown, as I pulled in Mark and Joan were walking out of the office. They came over to see what the trouble was, and upon sharing the issues I'd had, Mark promptly got on his phone and started trying to help me find a part locally, but being an old car and being 100 miles from a "big" city, we were unable to. I was almost 600 miles from home, didn't even know where I was at the time, and couldn't drive. Without pause, Mark offered to let me pull my car into their garage so it would be safe, and loaned me one of their shop trucks so I could drive into Albert Lea and get a hotel and some dinner. I ordered a new radiator online and had it overnighted so it would arrive Saturday (it would not ship until Friday). Once the part arrived, Mark and Joan's generosity continued as they allowed me to use their shop to replace the part (they were very backlogged and I was eager to get back on the road). Joan made a run into town to get everyone working that Saturday lunch, and was kind enough to offer to get me something as well. During my time at their shop, I got to see how hard they work, and how they treat their employees. It's common for employers to claim a "family" atmosphere, but Becker Auto epitomizes the idea of that, and that way of doing business trickles down to their customers. From allowing me to store my valuable car safely in their garage to loaning me a vehicle so I could make the best out of a bad situation, they showed me kindness that I have not seen from strangers in my 34 years on earth. They treated me as though I was family, and on top of it all, would not allow me to pay them a penny because "they know what it's like to be broken down away from home." Mark and Joan Becker have shown me a side of humanity that is missing from my part of this Country, and they have given me a strong internal drive to pay their kindness forward and make sure that I treat strangers in need with the same care and kindness that they treated me with. I will be forever grateful for what they did for me, and I really believe that God put them in my path for a reason. The world needs more people like Mark, Joan, and the staff that they employ at Becker Auto.
