Took the bioluminescence tour last night with 3 grandchildren. What a fun and educational experience. We highly recommend!

He is very knowledgeable about the area and was an absolute expert navigating the terrain of the rain forest and mountain. It's a really fun ride when you have a driver/tour guide that you trust! Kendall was fantastic - highly recommend requesting him! The waves around the rocks surrounding the tide pools were very intense and I had zero fear because Kendall really knew what he was doing! You have to do a little bit of rock climbing to get to the pools but Kendall gave us step-by-step instructions and it was a blast. (I am not a rock climber!) I wish I brought a waterproof phone case to bring my phone to the actual tide pools. It was breathtaking and so fun to swim in!

Please see the attached pictures and read the facts of our experience and decide what would be best for you and yours. Attached are pictures of the facility and their equipment including the two working Jeeps on this day. By lunch time they only had one working Jeep. We left out in "The Green Machine " just after 9 am. We made a stop at the gas station for fuel. We made our way out to Udall Point and then on our way the west side of the island at about 11:15 an while on the main road, not off road, we saw the the rear right wheel and axle pass in front of us. It flew ahead of us and luckily slammed into a tree on the roadside and not into on coming traffic. Our driver was able to get the Jeep off the road just a few feet from a telephone pole. A few more feet we would have slammed head on into the pole. If not for a Good Samaritan who stopped to check on us we would have been stuck on the side of the road for more than 2 hours. A tow truck showed up fairly quickly and hauled off "The Green Machine." The Good samaritan took us and the driver a couple more miles up the road to the chicken shack where we waited until after 2:00 pm for the one other working Jeep to come pick us up. We did have a good lunch at the Chicken Shack. The lady who took our money and another gentleman showed up in the other Jeep. Our driver loaded us up on this Jeep and we returned to the office. I had to hold the door shut on the way back. Upon the return to the Tan Tan office we were offered the option to complete the trip this day or schedule a half day tour another day. Being that we were more than 2 and half hours behind schedule and had dinner reservations we were not able to continue this day. We were not able to reschedule for another half day tour during the remainder of our trip. We asked for a full refund form the lady who took our cash and she informed us she could not refund our money. We asked to speak to the owner. She informed us the owner was not on the islands but was able to get him on the phone. We advised him we wanted a full refund due to the unfulfilled tour and being put in an unreasonable dangerous situation due to the faulty vehicle. Take a look at the picture and make a call for your own safety. The owner refused to refund our money. He offered half a refund or a half day tour another day. We advised neither option would work for us. We simply wanted a refund. He flat out said he would not refund our money & we informed him we would make a factual post of our experience on social media with Tan Tan, with pictures and seek legal assistance to recoup our money. We offered to accept a refund and take no further action and part on good terms. The owner refused to refund our money and told us to do what we needed to. So here we are. Please review pictures and make a decision for yourself.

The hike from Carambola was an adventure for sure. The initial steep climb up the hill is not for…read morethe faint of heart, but once you conquer that first incline, the trail becomes much more manageable. Keep your eyes sharp--there's an abundance of hermit snails along the way, a small reward for your effort. Be careful what you touch, though! I grabbed a tree and ended up with hairlike quills stuck in my hand for the rest of the afternoon--a small price to pay for the experience. Once the trail opens up, you're greeted by a stunning black stone beach. The waves are hypnotically relaxing, and the rocks seem to sing as the water flows back. The tide pools aren't the easiest to reach, requiring a bit of climbing over wet rocks, but the effort is more than worth it. This hike isn't just a walk--it's an adventure that leaves lasting memories.

The pools are a series of large, naturally formed pools in a very secluded area on the island's…read moreNorth Shore. They are formed by waves and tide pushing seawater through a small crevice into a basin and trapping it there, thus forming swimming pool-sized tidal pool. But don't worry, the water is not stagnant. You can either walk here via a trail or drive there. Both are a bit challenging, but it is recommend to have an off road vehicle to drive there. I did not have one so, I would have to hoof it. I parked at the Carambola Beach Resort at started on my journey. They have a little area outside of the gate where you can park. The trail as a lot more arduous than I expected. There are some very, very steep inclines and declines, which become like ice after a rain. In some points it gets very narrow and overgrown. Some legs are right off of a step embankment and other have low hanging obstacles. The trail is not very well marked so be sure to take the one for walkers and not vehicles. I hear that it is a lot further. FYI, you do get an awesome view of the Resort along the trail. I recommend bringing a couple of bottles of water and some music, if you plan on making this trek. Also, good comfortable hiking shoes with some traction are a must. It took me about 40 minutes an I was at the pools. I was pretty beat when I got there and welcomed a dip in the nice cool water. Now I will apologize in advance, but here is my public service announcement. You will gain a respect for not only the pools beauty, but its power as well. Tide pools, especially this one are no joke. It can suck you into the ocean and good luck. You are at the mercy of the tides, who are undefeated. Water shoes are an absolute must here. The rocks in this area are like knives. You well definitely leave here with some little cuts. I got my hand and leg pretty good. They are also very uneven a slick, so, take your time. The final thing that I recommend is the buddy system. There were many times along the trail and in the pools, that I thought to myself that if something happened to me, no one would know for a long time. The way the trail is, it would be very difficult to get help to me. Vehicles can only get but so far near the pool area and boats would have a had time with the rocks and waves. If you don't have a buddy then at least let some one know where you are going and what time you plan on coming back. Don't get me wrong, this place is amazing. I was in aww of the waves crashing down, the clear water and the little pools. I highly recommend checking this place out, even though it may be difficult to do for many. I cannot stress enough that if you do visit, to please respect the water's power.

We were able to interact with various people along the tour. The tour was made interesting by our guide, Desha. At the end of the tour, we returned to the visitor center where we were able to sample 4 rums each and get 2 cocktails. Between us we tried 8 different rums. Both of us had the Cruzan Confusion which was the cocktail of the day. It was excellent and even better than the one that we had at Rum Runners. I talked to different employees to get a recipe to no avail. Everyone had a different recipe for making it. My second drink was made with their discontinued Guava Rum. It was disappointing to hear that Cruzan discontinued the Guava Rum since Guava is my favorite fruit. The Guava Rum was my primary reason for taking the tour because I assumed that I would be able to purchase some to take home. My partner had a Blue Velvet cocktail for the second cocktail. There is a very nice sitting area with several chairs and tables where guests can relax and enjoy their cocktails. One note of warning is that you should take all of your pictures while on the tour. Once the tour is over you will not be allowed to take any photographs even of outdoor buildings.

The team was very fun as well and it's a beautiful facility for being a factory. The best part is honest the sampling at the end and the included cocktails.
