I would not recommend Virgin Ecotours. I booked an evening kayaking excursion, a few hours before the excursion. I mapped the location from the resort where I was staying, to the meet up location. I got a taxi to take us & we left with ample extra time to get to the location. Apparently there was an accident and our driver indicated that he was going to turn around and go another way, which would get us there right on the dot. However, route 2 was not panning out, as now other traffic also used that route. I emailed the company multiple times requesting if it was possible to move to next day. ZERO response. I texted the company phone number, requesting the same. ZERO response. I called before texting, no answer. I did this from the date of our reservation until into the afternoon the next day. Very, very disappointed, as their booking calendar showed availability for the following day, but no one would respond. So not only did we miss out on something fun, but we are out $250. Would not recommend whatsoever given the complete lack of communication. If I could give 0 stars, I would. read more

Wow - had an awesome time with Yosh and the gang! This isn't just any old kayak trip; it's a whole experience! Not only did we take the two person kayaks out for a 3 mile spin, but we learned about the importance of the mangroves, island history, Caribbean Hermit Crab (aka Soldier Crab) and the highly toxic Manchineel Tree (the deadliest tree on earth). Wait, there's more! We also did some snorkeling where some in our group caught a glimpse of a sting ray and a lone barracuda. We did some mangrove kayaking. Waters were wildly choppy and it was just me, my mom, and the tour guide. Customized our excursion (and price) based on the weather and took us out at the time requested even though no one else was booked. It was really fun and laid back. Saw a bunch of abandoned boats, birds, and mangroves. Honestly, the tour guide was what made it so enjoyable though. read more

AMAZING!! went on the Ecotour in St. John from Honeymoon Beach with Patrick-- and it was phenomenal. i had never kayaked or snorkeled before, but the guide's instruction and positive demeanor had me doing both like a champ in no time. Patrick was very informative, especially on the hike-- lots of history about the islands and knowledge about the nature around us. I am petrified of bugs but I held a huge centipede (or something like that-- idk what it actually was). Conclusively-- I highly recommended this company (especially Patrick) This has been the highlight of my trip-- we even got to see two large sea turtles. read more

Make sure you confirm details and location of their office. Very friendly on the phone but yelp sent us to the wrong location and we missed our tour. Very unfortunate since we only had a couple hours on the island with a cruise. Lesson learned maybe book directly from the cruise ship versus trying to go direct with local businesses. Update- the same day as writing this review, I got an apology email from the owner giving more background on the situation. She was extremely professional and offered our money back for the taxi fare. Seems like a great company to work with for a tour, just good reminder to double check the locations and addresses that are listed on Yelp. My wife and I booked this through our cruise line, but we could have gone directly as well. Our guides Skylar was fantastic. He has a ton of great and intriguing information and was very well prepared to handle even some of the other more "challenging" persons on our tour. The tour started with a bit of background information, then preparing for the tandem kayaks with life jackets and snorkel gear, but we brought our own snorkel gear and that was fine. we paddled out about 1.5 miles through the mangroves winding back through seeing the wildlife and learning the about the area. We crossed over into cas cay and took a guided hike where we hung out with a ton of hermit crabs, had hermit crab races, leaned about the history of the cay. We hiked to the tidal pools to get a bit hands on with the brittle stars, urchins, welchs, conchs and other creatures. We hiked then out to the portal rocks and explored the formations a bit. On our way back to the beach we learned about the early buccaneers, settlers and natives. Once we got back, we dawned our snorkel gear and explored the cay. We saw many different fish, urchins, octopus, sunken boats, and sea cucumbers. We got a ton of videos and photos. Once we were done, we paddled back through the mangroves and we running a bit late, so we just went directly back, which was fine after a long day. The provided some water and answered any further questions we had before we loaded back on to the bus and headed back to the port. The roads to and from port are very winding, narrow and at times precarious. Traffic was certainly congested, so very glad someone else was doing the driving. We have a pretty great group of people on our trip and make some new friends. We learned, explored and experienced St. Thomas in a fantastic was. Had a blast doing the snorkeling, light hiking and kayaking trip with Tyler. It was a great way to start off my trip. I hadn't snorkeled since I was a child and while it took some getting used to I wouldn't have even attempted it at the Virgin Gorda Baths if it weren't for learning how to do it on this trip. The kayaking was fun and great exercise and I even loved doing it in the sudden downpour and choppy waves coming back - exciting! The history was wonderful too and I loved how much Tyler knew about the different ruins. Can't recommend this tour highly enough! And if Tyler's right you won't be able to walk through the ruins much longer if the preservation continues so go now! read more

My wife and I did the three hour Hassel Island tour. It was really enjoyable. Our guide Heather was clearly knowledgable about the flora, fauna, and history of the locale both above and below the water. High winds made parts of the kayaking portion untenable, so we did some additional snorkeling at a beautiful little reef. I would definitely recommend this tour. read more

We went on the 5-hr tour around the historic Hassel Island that included kayaking, hiking, and snorkeling. Lunch was also included! We were able to kayak around the entire island and visit all of the historical buildings on the island and hear about their history. Our guide Jason Lee, was very knowledgeable, patient, and enthusiastic. He had many fun facts and stories to share about the island. We stopped on a secluded part of the island to eat lunch and snorkel. The snorkeling experience was fun and enjoyable; we got to see lots of fish! The hiking part was fun as well and not too strenuous. Overall, this was a great experience and highly recommended for anyone looking to do some outdoor activity here! read more

Took the Hassel Island tour in February 2016. I have taken the night kayak before as well as Honeymoon Bay beach day, but was surprised what a great day the Hassel Island tour was. More so, I was surprised how much my wife and friend enjoyed it. And wifie is fit, But not the most athletic individual. Was a great balance of kayak activity, hiking, historical info and snorkeling activity this was. Just when you were ready for a break in the activity, the tour switched gears. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable and filled with fun facts. It is obvious the owner cares about her business because it shows in the level of satisfaction she try's to deliver. That's hard in an activity related business because everyone has a different activity level they are comfortable with. Hats off. If you enjoy kayaking at all, I think You will like this tour. read more

The Ecotour was amazing. My husband and I went while on our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for a better experience or tour guide (Lee). Lee was very educated on the ocean, the landscaping and the ocean animals. We had a fabulous tour and our guide Patrick was kind, knowledgeable, conscientious and very informative on all aspects of life, (wildlife, plants and people) and the long history of St. John. Tour guides were exuberant, friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. Everything is a learning opportunity during the tour. Don't be afraid of asking questions because they always have an answer. My favorite part of the tour was the hermit crab racing competition. Wow, I've never seen so many crabs in my life! Much Kawaii. I left the tour 700 calories lighter, eco-conscious, and wet. Make sure to wear a ton of sun screen, bring wet shoes, and a water proof camera. Ask for Troy as your tour guide. He was the best! read more

We booked the Hassel Island Tour to do while on our NCL cruise. We booked it on our own, and with Heather as our guide, we could not have been happier. Many of our fellow cruise goers told us how awful their excursions through the cruise line were and we gloated all cruise about how incredible AND less expensive ours was. Heather met us (3 adults - 1 over 60 - and 3 teens) early with water, snacks and equipment, a ton of expert advice and knowledge of the area. She was friendly and easy going and made our trip really fantastic. I highly recommend this trip for a easy, fun, adventure filled cruise stop - or any other visitor really. read more

This was a great tour! We booked it through our cruise. We found out they had just opened (due to the Hurricane destruction), yet they still did so much with us. On the ride to the tour, we learned about the island. Once there, we were well informed about the tour, allowed us to purchase anything we needed, and gave us bottled water for the trip. They also locked up anything we didn't want to get wet. We booked a kayaking and hiking tour, but we also received a history and ecosystem lesson about the mangroves, plants, coral reef, and it's inhabitants. Troy, the main lead, was great! You could tell he loved his job, was very knowledgeable, and wanted everyone to feel included, learn something new, and have fun. I would suggest this trip for anyone who wants to learn something, while doing an active tour. We did snorkel, but there isn't much to see versus other areas, so I would suggest the hike ad kayak tour, as your main activity. We would book with this company again! read more

My family took the kayak, hike and snorkel tour that we purchased through our cruise. There were two tour guides and about 40 people taking the tour. The group was far too large; we missed much of what the guides were saying because of the crowded conditions. Kayaks and snorkelers were so numerous, we were all bumping into each other constantly. The most disturbing part of the hike was when one of the guides said "whatever you do, do NOT touch the tree that has the *blah blah* shaped leaves on it because it is poisonous!" (I say blah blah because I could not HEAR the guide due to the size of the group). The guide asked each guest to "pass it down". This seemed very dangerous. During the snorkel part of the excursion, my daughter and I realized that our mouthpieces were broken and it was pretty much impossible to keep the snorkel in place. Add that to the fact that, once again due to the sheer number of people, many of us had trouble hearing and seeing what the guide was trying to tell & show us all. This excursion could have been so much better if it had been with a more manageable sized group. Instead, we were mostly frustrated and annoyed that we had come to this beautiful island and were unable to enjoy our experience. read more

The honeymoon beach all day watersports pass was awesome. That was the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. I didnt want to leave it!
