This is beginner snorkeling. You are NOT allowed to snorkel on your own on this tour. I have snorkeled around the world and never had to 1) wear a worthless vest, 2) taken 15-20 minutes to get into the water because of how inefficient the process was, 3) been screamed at constantly when I want to snorkel because I have moved 20 yards from the guide, and 4) be constrained to a single guide who is responsible for 30-35 snorkelers and she wants to be in complete control and never stopped talking, 5) we were only in the water for 50 minutes, that's right 50 minutes, and 6) there were 70 people on the catamaran, so it was way too congested, and 7) there was way too much focus on the bar and alcohol and not enough on the prime focus of snorkeling. read more

We went on a half day trip to turtle bay with a crew of three guys! Mark was an amazing captain! Tim was awesome leading us in the water and bar tender was tentative and friendly. The boat was nice. Everything we needed for the trip. Captain let people drive the boat. We had a fantastic time. Had many comments afterwards from our group of 17 about the top notch service from the crew! Wonderful day snorkeling. Saw 5-6 sea turtles, sting ray, barracuda, lots of fish, so clear. One of the better snorkeling spots!! Tim was also very cautious and helpful to all degrees of swimming levels. He made the advanced feel free and the cautious feel safe. Go on this trip!!! read more

I'm adding a second review for our sunset dinner cruise. Our first experience was their snorkel tour and it was awesome. The dinner cruise was, too. They really go out if their way to make everyone feel special and the food and drinks were really good. I highly recommend them for either snorkeling or sunset dinner cruise. One of the best events we did while on St Thomas! This was such a wonderful, enjoyable afternoon both on and in the water. The crew were amazing, super friendly, and fun to be around, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time on the catamaran. We did the Turtle Cove Sail and Snorkeling Adventures. Unfortunately, the weather was not in our favor, so it wasn't safe to snorkel at that location. However, they made the best of the situation and took us to the other side of the island, and we still got to see a turtle as well as snorkel on top of a shipwreck. Definitely a cool experience even if it wasn't what was planned. We also had plenty of time sailing on the catamaran. We had a nice table to sit and enjoy, but we also had a great time standing at the railing and just watching the water, feeling the wind blow by, and listening to the waves. Drinks were great. Really enjoyed our painkillers, and they gave us a little appetizer of chips and salsa. Mixed with the music, it was a great time sailing. Highly recommend the VI Cat! read more

Wonderful views!!! ----- Longer Review Reservation - reserve before you go, if you can We visited St. Thomas, USVI, for the first time in 2021, and had a great time. We intentionally did not plan too many activities before arriving, to make this a more relaxing trip. Thankfully, the other family we travelled with looked into things ahead of time, so we had the VI Cat's six-hour snorkel tour reserved before we left. We didn't know until we arrived that this was very beneficial... once at St. Thomas, the VI Cat, and seemingly every other charter boat/trip was fully reserved on the dates we were there. The Cruise + Snorkeling The VI Cat departs, for us, from the Marriott Frenchman's Cove... we meet at the boat dock. After getting all the passengers situated, Captain Joe guided us, via propeller power from Charlotte Amalie to Buck Island... Buck Island off St. Thomas (apparently several Caribbean Islands have Buck Islands just offshore... this is not the Buck Island off St. Croix). The waters around St. Thomas are so many beautiful shades of blue, including deep blue between the islands. Captain Joe shared stores about the frigate birds overhead... they apparently can't get their wings wet, so they can fly/glide for up to six months at a time. Also they cannot get wet to get fish so they let other birds get the fish and start to fl off then the frigates attack and steal the fish... interesting. When we got to Buck Island they dropped anchor at Turtle Cove, in sight of the lighthouse atop the island. We spent about an hour snorkeling at Turtle Cove. We saw three stingrays and two turtles. Fernando got in the water and brought up a sea star that we could gently touch; he then returned it to its secret hiding spot, keeping it safe from predators. We saw may other colorful fish, too. As we departed Buck Island for Honeymoon Beach, Katie put it the sail, and we sailed back to Water Island... as we got closer they went back to motor power. On the VI Cat, you can sit on the seats, come under cover from the sun and others open-sky, or up on the "bridge" looking forward, with you feet on the catamaran's cargo netting. They had painkiller drinks - rum with orange and pineapple juices, for adults and for those under-21, to enjoy. Honeymoon Beach on Water Island We were at Honeymoon Beach for about two hours; a relaxing time for food and snorkeling. Lunch was at honeymoon beach on Water Island; there's a food shack setup for the several boats that visit... they boat in the food and cook it right there. We enjoyed some really tasty food - chicken, jerk chicken, and tuna poke bowl. (You pay for lunch yourself; lunch is not included with the VI Cat... drinks are included but lunch is not.) Snorkeling at Honeymoon Beach, we saw five sea turtles, one smaller/younger, the rest bigger/older... and the one had clear markings on top of its head that looked a little like a brown and white soccer ball and another had a remora fish riding along on it's shell. Captain Joe then took the nice, leisurely route around Water Island and the bay in front of Charlotte Amalie, back to the Marriott... it was a fantastic afternoon!!! The staff was nice and actually moved around and continuously came by to ask if you needed something. (That's why this got 2 stars the awesome staff). Sorry this was the worst sail I have ever been on. I do these sails at different companies so I can tell friends that come in to the territory as well as new guest and this was not it. The music- was old 1970-80's and mix 90's slow reggae, country and a little pop that made you feel like you were at a funeral. The drink selection- 2 types of beers and the CHEAPEST RUM you can buy on the island. I'm sorry but the smell of any of the rum had everyone wonder what's going on? The painkiller was badly mixed. So overall everyone turned to drinking bud light or coors light (don't quote the beers because I think I'm wrong on 1 of the names). The food- was decent. It was cooked with flavor and just a few was just overly salty. read more

One of the most wonderful experiences. I wish I had time to do it again on this trip. I loved every moment of this trip. I was a little afraid when boarding began because of the strict mask requirements. I assumed they would be like that the entire trip. Upon boarding I realized that you were going to have a drink the entire trip so no need for the mask. Literally drink in hand the entire time!!! These ladies NEVER slacked on service. The drinks were wonderful and the service was incredible. They were spectacular. They have the whole operation down to a science. They make well-timed rounds to never have an empty glass. The food service was amazing. The food is plated and served due to Covid, but seconds are welcomed. Heck they are even encouraged. The views are amazing. The staff were nice, the boat was cute but we went for a sunset cruise. A sunset cruise that was expensive just for them to go behind an island which blocked our view. This review is 50% the spectacular views that the night cruise had to offer and 50% of the crew members. There's Brian, captain joe, and a girl who I don't recall ever introducing herself fully. Honestly the views on the cat were spectacular at night. You can, however, tell that captain joe and the girl crew member are pretty much over their job. Joe was snarky, rude, and extremely.... extremely condescending to my family (a large paying party of 15). Even after the fact we went to karaoke and we ended up being in the same elevator afterwards, his two cents were that he "could hear us singing from out in the water" in possibly the least friendly (but also maybe just a generic New Jersey tone). His derogatory remarks were never lost on my like some of my party who were too drunk to realize they were essentially being made fun of. The girl crew member was just cold, dry, and rude. No more and no less. I did my best to forward all my questions and requests to the 3rd crewmember, Brian. Now Brian was a DELIGHT. He was kind, sweet, attentive, and also extremely funny. I am so glad we had him on our trip, otherwise, it probably wouldn't have been a good experience. I even raved about Brian to the charters we had the next few days after the Cat. He seems to be a friend of most on the island. Finally, the taco bar. Yikes. Not good, chaotic, sparse, flavorless. I had anxiety about even getting up to get food because SO MANY PEOPLE were on this catamaran. It was a mad rush to get food and once we finished, it looked like locusts attacked. All in all, was it a good experience? Sure. Would I probably skip it next time? Absolutely. read more

Let me tell you a little bit about this gem of a snorkeling trip! Our crew consisting of Captain Joe, Katie and Christian were AMAZING!!!!!! Included in the price is a sweet Catamaran boat trip out to Turtle Cove, snorkeling with fish and sea turtles, meeting some cool people, delicious adult (and non-adult) drinks and snacks (although we brought our own too.) ...oh yea and a cool temp Cat VI tattoo if you wanted one. Captain Joe and crew are super friendly and accommodating and the "painkiller" drinks were delicious! And the snorkeling was super cool too! The rum punch was a lot more juice than liqour, I had like 20 and barely caught a buzz..haha The snorkle was absolutely amazing, got to see a barracuda and swim with the turtles, great trip and we'll worth the price! read more

Take it from a longtime Elite Yelper The Cat was a great value for money experience which doesn't take up your whole day of wallet. My review is for the Snorkel outing at Turtle Bay. The crew were great. Fernando, Joe & Leslie were great hosts and kept the humor going. Big shout out to Fernando who we met at a number of the Marriott Adventures we took. Book your Adventure at the desk at the Marriot Reef and take advantage of their discount. Just a short walk down or a shuttle ride to the Ferry Dock and you will see The Cat crew getting ready about 12pm. After a quick intro and safety talk we motored off on The Cat over to Turtle Bay with a nice platter of fruit. Once we anchored at Turtle Island the crew took us on a 15 minute snorkel tour and then we were all let loose in the bay for over an hour. Safety for each other and the wildlife was one of the crew's goals and it was definitely an experience worth doing. You get up close with turtles, sting rays and many fish. This was the only snorkel tour we took on the island that were able to stop the fogging of our masks every 5 minutes. Returning from the island the crew worked hard to set sail with no engines and sail we did, with Painkillers, Rum punch and snacks all the way back to the dock. Why not 5 stars? There is something deep down not letting me pull the trigger on the 5th star. Prove me wrong Yelpers. Cause this is something I would thoroughly recommend and would do again. read more

What a great night on the water! The boat is awesome, super clean and pristine. The crew obviously have a lot of experience and right away were making jokes and livening up their guests, which is hard to do with a bunch of covid rules. But that made us feel safe and comfortable. The sunset was gorgeous and the drinks were delicious and endless! So make sure to have a DD or a taxi. They played fun music the entire time and were extremely attentive and personal. They even rooted us on when my fiance and I decided to dance on the deck. It isn't a super long cruise and it doesn't go really far out but we didn't care or really notice, we just had fun! read more

My friends and I went on a sunset sail on the VI Cat and had the BEST time. The crew (Isaac, Shelby and co.) were incredibly hospitable and friendly. They gave us excellent recs for the rest of our trip and ensured we had a great time on the sail. The painkillers were perfect and our cups were never empty. We took their full day trip (10am-4pm) to bucket island and water island. The trip include snorkel gear but we brought our own. The staff was super nice and made sure to ask constantly if we needed water and answered our questions. At bucket island we saw turtles as soon as we jumped off the boat. The reef had been hit hard by a few hurricanes a few years ago so its not currently back to all its glory but we did see a lot of cool fish, a few eels, some coral. After an hour we got back on the boat thats when the pain kill punch came out. They also provided us chips and salas. It took about an hour from bucket island to water island using the sail. It was nice and relaxing with great views. Once at water island we were able to eat at a local place called Dingy. The whole boat ate their so we were surprise how fast the food came out. Afterwards, we swam out and found even more and bigger turtles eating away at the seagrass. Look for the large yellow ring and you'll find them in that area. The people working in this excursion were fantastic. Starting with the man (didn't catch his name!) who answered the phone when I called to say we couldn't make our excursion because of a medical issue. He immediately offered to rebook us for a few days later because of the nature of our situation, which was very kind of him as we hadn't expected anything of them. The individuals on our excursion (Jackson, Mike, and Captain Serena) were also great. It felt like your friends were taking you out on their boat for the day - just extremely friendly, funny, accommodating people. THAT SAID. I would not do this again. Because they really pack the boat, it takes forever to actually get into the water and because it then takes so long to get everyone back on the boat, you're only in the water for maybe 30 minutes. We saw a lot of fish which was very cool, but if you're doing this for sea turtles, don't bother. We went to Maho Bay and swam just a couple feet away from 2 beautiful turtles and stayed as long as we wanted. On the snorkel excursion, there was a single turtle way at the bottom of the water. Obviously the team can't control the presence of turtles but I just think the description of this excursion was misleading in that regard. read more

Went snorkeling with them today. They were on time to our cruise ship. The catamaran was smooth sailing. The crew was funny, yet very adept. We snorkeled at Turtle cove. The negatives I would say was the equipment was older and not all in the best shape. Positive was Fernando was excellent in the water guiding us to the turtles, fish, and other sea life. They provided beverages and snacks (tortilla chips and salsa). The snorkeling was pretty good. Overall enjoyable. I would give 5 stars if the equipment was in better condition. read more
