The drive from the main road to the center is scenic, offering glimpses of Virginia's historic landscape before arriving at the center. Getting to the actual center seemed a little confusing as there are arrows describing the car tours to visit various sights when leaving the center. The center is not very large. The exhibits inside are well-organized and interactive, showcasing artifacts from the Battle of Yorktown, maps, uniforms, and weaponry from the era. There is a short film that provides an good overview of the battle and its significance in the history of our American independence. The center also features a gift shop with books, souvenirs, and historical memorabilia. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and offered suggestions regarding various tours that you could take when driving around the area. There are several well-marked signs leading visitors from the center to the surrounding area sites. The driving tours take visitors through key historic sites connected to the Siege of Yorktown (1781) and the broader Colonial National Historical Park. Overall, the Yorktown Visitor's Center is an great stop, providing an introduction to this historic battlefield and its role in shaping the nation.

It did a great job of explaining what led up to the British surrender and how it happened. I especially liked the part of a ship that was built into the visitors center. Walking through it really was like walking through an 18th century ship - very cool. The visitors center did a great job of explaining the surrounding area and helping us decide where to go. I enjoyed it and would definitely recommend checking it out when visiting Yorktown.

Back in September, we booked the tour for Sunday, November 16th at 9:30am. Today, when we went to check in the "gentleman" at the front desk said that we were listed for the 1:00pm tour and not the 9:30am tour. I assured him that there was no way that we would get the time wrong, given we flew all the way from New York just to take the tour. The "gentleman" then proceeded to put words in my mouth like I was blaming him or expected him to bump others from the 9:30 tour--which I promptly informed him I said no such thing. He also felt the need to put his hand on his hip like he was scolding a child so I mirrored his bad behavior by putting my hand on my hip and let him know that he should just admit that it was a clerical error on the part of Suffolk Visitor Center. The "gentlewoman" that worked at the center tried to offer that there are often cancellations so we could wait to see whether everyone would show up. All but one person who was signed up for the 9:30am tour showed up and so her offer was that one of us could take the tour. That was not acceptable since there were three of us. With that said, I am glad we did not allow the poor customer service exhibited by Suffolk Visitor Center to ruin our day. Instead, we paid the $5 permit at the Great Dismal Swamp read through the placards and pamphlets there and enjoyed the beautiful day. Given the terrible disposition of the staff, I doubt the tour would have provided a respectful or accurate account of the history of the enslaved people who sought refuge in the swamp.

My college friend and I just got back from Cusco Peru for a trip to Manchu Picchu, and wow what a…read moretrip. We have both traveled all over the planet and this was our first trip using a travel company. Lets just say, Adios Adventure Travel has been absolutely amazing. When we decided to plan this trip, we did a Google search for Manchu Picchu. We came across Adios Adventure Travel. I sent an email with the information about what we were looking for, and BOOM Jacquie responded right away with tons of information. She was amazing through the decision process. She answered every question we had, was super punctual in responding, and helped us to get to the point of booking with such ease! When we called to actually book, Jacquie was so much fun to talk with. We talked on the phone for almost 2 hours discussing this trip. She recommended places to go, things we were interested in, made sure to let the travel guides know the details for those things we were interested in, and so much more. If I can travel anywhere, it has to be a place where I have a "Jacquie" available for questions, answers, and great information. Once we got to Cusco, we met with our guide Victor. He took care of us the entire trip... and when I mean taken care of us, he made sure we knew where we were going, what times to be where, and stepped us through everything everyday. Each place we visited Victor was so knowledgeable about the site, city, people, and the history. He was so extremely polite, giving, and funny! He told us many of his personal stories, especially the ones that were connected to the places we visited. Victor was also patient about our time, especially at different locations, allowing us to see the different sites but to also give us time to look and experience for ourselves. We told Victor in the beginning of our trip, things we were interested in seeing and experiencing... he adjusted our schedule to fit those things in and even took us to amazing restaurants for some very authentic Peruvian food. We were both blown away at the professionalism that everyone at Adios Adventure Travel had. I recommend anyone who is wanting to travel to Peru, Chile, Ecuador, or Bolivia, to contact Adios Adventure Travel and see what they have to offer... they will make your trip amazing and so much easier!

If you are ever considering going to Peru & hiking Machu Picchu, definitely go through Adios Travel Adventure. Both co-owners Jacquie & Vidal were wonderful to work with (and Heather as well)! We did a 5 day hike and at times is was very challenging but completely worth it. There was an issue with our initial itinerary that we picked, but Jacquie & Vidal did everything they could and made it right. It all worked out for the best, and we can't say enough good things about working with them. I contacted Jacquie many months before our trip and from start to finish, it was a breeze to work with her. She always responded in a timely manner to all of my questions (and I had a TON of questions)! Lol. It made planning the trip fun & stress free! I don't regret one bit going through Adios Travel Adventure! We recommend them 100%. And if you ever get to choose your guide - ask them to book Klever for you...absolutely wonderful!!

And even if this wasn't my first time I expected to be educated and made to feel like things were taken care of. There was a miscommunication regarding flights. When I presented questions and concerns the representative named Jenn was extremely rude and seemed to take my concerns as a personal attack. When I explained that there must have been a miscommunication and requested she educate me on the process she told me that there was no miscommunication and that I was the one at fault. After multiple back and forth communications and the rude nature of her responses, I did not feel confident in trusting my travel goals to Jenn based on her emotional responses. I asked to work with another member of her team, however my request was not honored. Her professionalism was deficient and it seemed she did not care. I am not sure what was wrong with Jenn but this whole experience was baffling and I am still confused. The level of customer service I received was non existent. I would not place my trust in this agency.

We spent 4 days in a hotel, and then drove to Rotterdam, Netherlands. There we stayed with relatives and after 4 days we drove to Amsterdam, stayed overnight in Amsterdam and then flew to Barcelona. Here we got another hotel for five days. While we Barcelona, we were never bored, we had bus passes. etc, that allowed us to travel around the city freely. Then fly back to Norfolk via Dulles. All set up, booked and coordinated by Jenn. It was great everything was EXACTLY when and where she said it would be. This is way the rating of 3.5 baffles me.
