Tantivy Farm is one of those places…read more This magical place is one where you can walk through lavender fields, eat lavender ice cream, shop for lavender products, and meet some farm animals. It's a family-owned farm run by super nice people, and it's a great place to visit when you're in the Lexington area. You can explore more than a thousand lavender plants of 20 different varieties here. I visited during the off season, when the lavender bushes were spent and dormant, but there were a few sprigs here and there, and even so, the rest of the garden was lush and beautiful. If you want to experience the lavender fields in full bloom, you'll want to visit in late spring through summer. Around the end of May to the end of June is when they do U-pick lavender, where you can pick your own lavender bouquets. The owners also produce and sell lavender products, dried and fresh wreaths, lavender food (including lavender ice cream!). Friendly farm animals also live on the farm, and you might be able to meet and greet them. These are the most content and happy animals I've encountered maybe ever. Could it be because they live on a lavender farm and they're absorbing the calming vibes of this medicinal plant? Most likely it's because the owners are super awesome and treat the animals like family. It's great to see. The farm is open May to December.

My mom got a chicken salad sandwich on sourdough bread, I had a turkey reuben, my husband had a pastrami reuben and my father-in-law had a chili and grilled cheese. Food was out quickly and it was ALL delicious. I tried the chicken salad and it was some of the best I've ever had. Huge portions and fresh food all homemade (the chili was good). They had some fresh pies and pastries for sale as well - everything looked delicious and fresh and homemade. In the end, I felt so upset that we went back and said I wanted to return the other small item I had purchased, a little bumblebee tea light holder, she asked why and we explained we didn't like how the other issue went down and she sincerely apologized and said she hadn't handled it properly and offered to give it as a gift as a gesture of good will. She was kind and explained she's selling and had taken a phone call in the back and was stressed. I understand and her apology was sincere. I appreciated that. All in all - cute shop, good food, cute items. After we sorted the issue - I'd happily come back. Sounds like it is about to be under new management so not sure how much it will change. The market is a short 5-6 minute drive from Lexington, and even closer to Buena Vista. First Catch recieves seafood in small quantities, 3x/week, so pre-ordering is definitely a good idea. That said, I walked in and had no problem getting 1lb of beautiful Texas pink shrimp. From market to grill, the time lapse was only 30 minutes- that's convenient! The shrimp had good texture and natural taste, and were no doubt as fresh as could be. I definitely reccomend First Catch Seafood Market to anybody who has a legitimate taste for fresh seafood. Having lived 3 months of every year for the past 5 years on the coast of North Carolina, I consider myself a well-versed seafoodie. You won't find any S.E. Asian farmed seafood here- and that's a good thing. Bypass Kroger, Food-Lion, or wherever you shop normally and definitely make the trek to First Catch for any seafood need- it won't let you down (just make sure to call ahead and verify if they have what you're looking for/pre-order if necessary)!
