Apple cider isn't usually something I'm gonna go running for but when I got that first smell, my legs just started going. The ad for the farmers market looked good, but I wondered why the website did not list any vendors, events, or other information. Now I know why. The market's location is right in downtown with ample parking and a nice covered shelter. I was shocked to see as we approached that there were only THREE (3) vendors in a space that could easily hold 30 or more. One table was selling candles (I think) and about 12 small tomatoes. Another had non-produce products and the last table was selling snack cakes. It was a far cry from my vision of taking home bags of fresh peaches, zucchini, heirloom tomatoes and any other local products to supplement our post-vacation pantry. It was the saddest farmers market I've ever seen and believe me when I tell you that if looks could kill (remember convincing hubby to drive out of our way) I'd be gone.

I had just driven by the farm with their giant "pick your own strawberries" sign, and decided to do this in between wine/beer tastings along Nelson 151. *Pick your own strawberries for $3.49 a pound. Apparently you can bring your own container for picking, but they do provide white buckets. *I picked strawberries from Patch #1 which faces the road, but there's more patches in the back, which I wish I'd checked out, because I suspect a lot of people go to Patch #1. So I'd encourage you to be aware of Patches #2-6. *There are portapotties and an outdoor sink set up with soap and paper towels. *They have a small market with some McCutcheon products, strawberries for sale, asparagus, and ice cream in pints. I had a cup of their delicious strawberry ice cream afterward. There are picnic tables scattered under tents where you can enjoy your ice cream (much appreciated shade after strawberry picking under the hot sun).
