I just had a really great cheddar omelet-served with a biscuit. Wayne had a bowl with eggs, sausage gravy and home fries. It was all good, reasonably priced. Service was quick and friendly. Two minor things; the home fries were deep fried; and we had a heck of time finding the diner. Sunrise Diner is a great spot to check out, but it's not easy to find. It's tucked behind the Cook Out. The staff were very friendly, they all helped top off coffee, remove plates, bring you anything, etc. Good teamwork. The 2 breakfasts we had were tasty and came out quickly. They even had country ham which I love. The place is pretty good sized. I'd recommend them for a fine quick breakfast. read more

My family vegetarian, and this spot had several options and was able to adapt meat dishes! I got the "Hungry Man's Trashcan" without eggs and meat and they turned it into a great garden bowl. Great omelets cooked to order, the best French Toast, and then there's the breakfast Banana Split - a split banana topped with vanilla Greek yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and granola! Everything arrives quickly and the staff is super friendly. They serve lunch too but we've eaten lunch because the breakfast is so good! Ambiance is a fun diner with the local college and university shirts (there are 3 within 6 miles!) on the walls, along with country ambience and a bit of livestock humor. This place is not on any interstate exit sign but we wanted a diner and I'm so glad we found it! It's off the beaten path behind a Cook Out and when we walked in, it was plainly obvious that this place was a "locals" favorite. The staff were extremely welcoming and pleasant as well as attentive to our food and drink needs. Our breakfast was delicious and very reasonably priced. If you happen to be driving down I81 and want some good food, check this place out! read more

I ate at this diner a few years ago, and it was fabulous. The service was amazing, and the food was exceptional. Everything seemed homemade. I ate there yesterday, and it wasn't the same. It was quite disappointing. First, the service was top notch. Our waitress was attentive and took care of everything we needed. The food was not top notch. I had a cheese omelet with green peppers. I was expecting a fluffy 2 or 3 egg omelet. It wasn't fluffy at all. It was the thinnest omelet I've ever seen, and it didn't look homemade. With it, I had what they called "home fries." They weren't. They were fried, cubes of potatoes that probably came out of a bag. The omelet tasted ok, but the potatoes didn't, and some tasted moldy. The same was true for one of my companions. I rarely complain about toast, but even that was bad. It came from the kitchen brushed with something I presumed was butter, but it wasn't. It tasted like grease from the grill. I added butter from the little containers at the table, but it was some sort of artificial spread. It tasted awful, and I didn't eat the toast. One last thing about ambiance -- the tables are so cluttered with stuff that there's barely enough space for food. Every table had a bottle of ketchup, a bottle of hot sauce, a sizeable basket of things in plastic containers like syrup, jams, and "butter" spreads, as well as odd things like packets of lemon juice. We moved everything to a vacant chair and put the basket on the floor. I suggest you guys limit the stuff on the table and bring things out to the customer as needed. read more

Only open 2 weeks, the place was packed with people waiting for a table. And with good reason: this is the best version of diner food. The coffee is strong, prices reasonable, and portions generous. We had the brisket hash, which was phenomenal, and the breakfast bowl, which also was excellent. I believe the owners also have a BBQ restaurant, which is why the brisket hash is so mouthwatering. It must be said that the restaurant itself is charmless -- a near windowless box. However, you quickly forget the surroundings once you encounter the friendly service and top notch food. read more

This is the cutest little diner in Lexington. Best place hands down for breakfast. I came in here on a Sunday morning with my daughter and it was a busy place. We sat down around 8am and there were no seats available . We waited probably 10 mins and the nice hostess seated us in the back by the wall which was a prefect spot for us. My daughter and I ordered our food and I understand it was busy but it did take a little while for our food to come to us we probably waited 25 -30 mins again it was slammed in the dining room with others waiting to be seated. The one thing I did not like was there were several tables of older people in their 70s to 80s that were just sitting around after their food was done and their coffee was gone chit chatting using up a few tables when others were waiting to sit and enjoy breakfast. I watched these tables sit for 30 mins with nothing on the table everything had been cleared just jabbing their jaws with each other. The wait staff should have asked them to leave after a certain amount of time to allow others to sit down. Other than that the atmosphere was up beat, the dining area was small but well maintained the restrooms were clean, the wait staff was alert and attentive. Food was hot and cooked great I have no complaints! Will definitely be back. read more

Breakfast was great. Service was great. The place is small, but it's well maintained. Even the bathroom was nicely cared for. The place is a little hard to find because it's tucked away behind an old strip of businesses and one of the businesses is a burger joint that has rather prominent letters on the side of the building. We originally thought that the diner must have closed down because the business right next to the burger joint, where the map indicated the diner exists, was being renovated. But, we decided to explore the business behind the strip and happened to look back and see the diner. I'm glad that we did. I highly recommend breakfast at this cute little diner. read more

We stopped here on our way back to Richmond from the Greenbrier. People were super friendly and service was excellent. I had the French Toast which was fresh and delicious and the eggs were fluffy and light. My husband's biscuit was homemade and delicious. The only downside is the lack of ambiance- just a room with tables and some random things nailed to the wall fir decor. But overall a good experience! read more
