This review is for picking your own strawberries. *No reservations needed, even during COVID times, which was a relief especially since I hadn't planned this activity. I had just driven by the farm with their giant "pick your own strawberries" sign, and decided to do this in between wine/beer tastings along Nelson 151. *Pick your own strawberries for $3.49 a pound. Apparently you can bring your own container for picking, but they do provide white buckets. *I picked strawberries from Patch #1 which faces the road, but there's more patches in the back, which I wish I'd checked out, because I suspect a lot of people go to Patch #1. So I'd encourage you to be aware of Patches #2-6. *There are portapotties and an outdoor sink set up with soap and paper towels. *They have a small market with some McCutcheon products, strawberries for sale, asparagus, and ice cream in pints. I had a cup of their delicious strawberry ice cream afterward. There are picnic tables scattered under tents where you can enjoy your ice cream (much appreciated shade after strawberry picking under the hot sun). read more

Friendly service with a smile and very helpful by explaining where each of the luck your own sites are. Great shady stress with picnic tables for a private party and a fun kids area too. You'll find a horse, geese, chickens, ducks and other animals around for the kids to enjoy. I consider myself a bit of an ice cream aficionado, having lived in 10 different states and in several locations abroad for a number of years and always trying and on the lookout for different ice creams. I have eaten probably 2000+ ice cream cones in my lifetime and I can with great pride and admiration say that the ice cream here at the Critzer Family Farm is the very single best I've ever had in my entire life. I had a blackberry cone, crushed it, and immediately went back for a strawberry and really just wow, no words to describe how good and fresh it is. Taste, texture, temp, all PERFECT. The friendliness of the staff and just the whole atmosphere of the farm on a nice sunny spring day and those two cones really came together for me in truly the most divine ice cream moment of my life. 10/10. I am a pizza and ice cream snob from the Bronx. I was randomly driving by and decided to get an ice cream cone. The woman who helped my was super nice and helpful. I tried the strawberry ice cream and it was the best i ever had and I ordered a cone. The woman explained to me that all of the strawberries and blackberries come from the farm, and they use 6 pounds of berries for each gallon of cream. Then i tried the blackberry and It too was the best i ever had. It was so good that I took a pint of the blackberry from their freezer to go. I had 8 more hours of driving. She triple bagged the ice cream to keep it frozen and it made it all the way home. read more

The world's best and fresh soft serve ice cream ever! We tried the coffee, plum, peach, and strawberry. The flavors are absolutely impeccable. My husband and I love this place so much we visit on a weekly basis! It's a cute and phenomenal family farm. My family and I love this sweet, little farm. We try to make it out a couple times a year for the pick-your-own strawberries and other fruits. It's a beautiful spot and we typically bring our lunch and picnic by the water to enjoy the view! It's much less crowded than other farms in the area. They don't have any food for sale but they DO have the most amazing ice cream. This year I was thrilled that they would be open despite all the COVID 19 restrictions. They've planted more strawberry patches than in prior years and have done a fantastic job of making sure proper hygiene and social distancing is enforced with hand washing stations at each patch and assigning each family a different row. I'm so glad that this was one tradition our family was able to enjoy this spring! read more

You seriously NEED to come here. It's the best strawberry picking I have been to and their ice cream is OUT OF THIS WORLD! Get the ice cream and you won't be sorry. Also, the staff are all really nice and helpful. Pro tip, I came on a Thursday and they close at 7, but you had to be there by about an hour before closing to get admitted. It's a really humble farm that deserves the attention. Just come here and you will be happy. Prices are very reasonable too. If you are in the Charlottesville area and want some quality berries (I think they have many other berries when it's in season) you should come here. This place is the real thing. A quaint little orchard stand with fruit picked right from the surrounding orchards. The owners are eager to please and encouraged us to try a peach and a nectarine before we made our purchase . You can go picking yourself or choose from the farm tables on the large shed. Delicious fruit and they even sell ice cream made on the premises using fresh fruit purees. Really a great place. We'll be back. read more

This place is great! We've come down here a couple of times from northern Virginia, last time in the fall. They have a bunch of in-season fruits and veggies (pumpkins and others then, strawberries now) as well as homemade ice cream with real fruit in it. The ice cream is whatever fruit is in season too, so pumpkin ice cream last time and this time strawberry. They make it with a soft serve machine in a shed next to the main building, but it's just milk and fruit and some of the best ice cream we've had. Ice cream is only $2.75 for a 8oz cup. This time they also half off of canned and jarred preserves and other things. There's also pick your own fruit. They do not take a card for under $10, but it's not hard to spend $10. I would come here for the ice cream alone all the time if we lived nearby. We will definitely come back. read more

This place is pretty cool. This fall, I visited it for "pick your own pumpkins" when I was in town. First off, the location and scenery is absolutely beautiful. They have lots of different fields, and the pumpkin/gourd field is a short walk from the main building. They don't JUST have orange pumpkins for you to pick - there were a few white pumpkins (what I was looking for) and other colorful gourds. Inside the main building (where you pay, BTW), they have just about everything you can think of that is in season. In October they had tons of butternut squash, apples, tomatoes, and a lot more. I think the price was reasonable - I paid less than $10 for my 5 pound white pumpkin (the orange ones are cheaper). They also gave us a free sample of their apple cider - it was delicious! If I lived nearby here, I would probably get my fresh fruit and veggies from here all the time. read more
