It was the BEST decision I made on the trip. The whole area was warm, inviting and super-clean! Robert and Belva were amazing hosts and Robert gave excellent referrals for services I needed while in town. Belva's delicious, healthy and substantial breakfasts and the various snacks on the kitchen counter were a godsend as I was too busy working on a project to stop for lunch one day and was able to make all the goodies last me throughout the day. I love that Belva incorporates local dairies and other sources in her breakfasts and labels the items for reference. The grilling cheese was da bomb! She's also a fountain of knowledge and great conversationalist, and her elegant ranch home quickly feels familiar within the first few minutes of arrival (once you open the gate and bounce along the gravel driveway to the barnside parking). This time, I decided to get creative and took a sunrise hike before breakfast to the summit of nearby Council Mountain (8126 ft.) in the Payette National Forest. Admittedly, it was a bit of an adventure, with fallen Ponderosa pines (the good Samaritans have chainsaws in their trucks up here), black bear cubs, a great grey owl, kestrels, and a herd of free-ranging cattle, and I didn't get back until 11:30 am, so my breakfast was an early lunch. But the chance to see the mountains from an exquisitely rugged vantage point made the 12-mile morning trek worth the effort. The food and company that Debra provided after were most welcome. You don't actually need to do a hike like that to have a good stay at the Elkhorn (or bring along French wine to drink on the patio while watching the lightning and rains come in at night). You could just hang out for a while and soak in the hip ranchhouse atmosphere while goats, horses, sheep, mules, chickens, dogs, and other creatures wander about. It's definitely a pioneering sort of place - a 21st century version of a Western American classic, with WiFi and goat cheese included.

This property has four guestrooms: 2 bunkhouse rooms, which is basically a log cabin split in half with a shared bathroom (toilet and shower) in the back, a yurt, and an RV. I stayed in a one of the bunkhouse rooms and it was charming. Two, double beds (I think that's their proper name), which are fine for one person but would not reasonably hold two. The beds were comfortable and firm, the linens warm and cozy. The room itself was charming, nice little touches like the lamps and the artwork. And, it even had a desk where I could squeeze in a little work while I was otherwise "off grid" (for real, while the ranch has Wi-Fi there is no cell coverage in the Owyhee Canyon. The "hooch" -- the shared kitchen and family room (which some might call a great room) -- is nice. Comfy chairs and couches, a TV (which I didn't use), and a wood burning stove. A nice breakfast layout. A (fancy but essentially camp) stove running off a local propane tank with two burners. Yes, you can pan-fry stuff here -- there are plenty of pans, but you get the strong feeling this is BBQ city once the weather warms up (I saw rotisserie spits and such). All utensils and such are available, plus a coffee pot with coffee and cream in the fridge. (There are also pots under the counter.) Chris and Lori were great, checking in on me on my drive out, greeting me when I arrived, and showing me around the place which, by the way, is in a pretty amazing setting. All in all a lovely trip in a lovely quiet place. This fishing was pretty good, too.

Let me first say, I'm not generally a fan of B&B's. My generalized experience has been that I feel like I'm intruding on all of the stuffed animals that have taken up residence in a bedroom. Being a man, I generally feel out of place and confused about where to sit, and what exactly I'm allowed to touch. In the case of the Cambridge House, I actually feel like I'm at home. The house is beautifully appointed and recently renovated, so it has all of the charm of the 1916 Craftsman that it is, without all of the pains of scalding water and creaking walls that I've come to expect from older homes. There are many cozy nooks in the house and finding a nice place to read a book is a true pleasure. Breakfast is prompt, tasty, and simple and the proprietor, Sheila, is a gem. It has some nice modern conveniences like free WiFi that make it easy for me to get work done while up visiting family. There are five lovely rooms, some pictures of which I have posted here. The rates are ridiculously reasonable. In short, if you're in this part of the world, this is the only place worth staying within 100 miles. We've been coming up here for almost ten years to visit family and we've tried every hotel and B&B within that distance. This is without a doubt the finest accommodation in the area, and is in a beautiful setting with some nice walks in all directions. Highly recommend anyone traveling through, or looking to get away for a quiet weekend. You won't regret it!

First, as you arrive to the venue, directly next to it, on the property is construction, EEK! This was not expected as she had said it would be complete in April 2026. You have to walk down a very steep trail to get to the wedding site itself. Karen made things difficult for the wedding party, at one point raising her voice and yelling. She was going through items in the bride's dressing room. The kitchen area is old, really old. Think green avocado stove old. There were no towels, paper towels etc for clean up or as you go taking care of things. There was no air conditioning. The reception area was stifling and hot. You walk down the stairs to the basement to get to the kitchen and dressing areas. However, it's dark without light and the carpet was very dark. Definitely a tripping/falling hazard. Lastly, we had to pack the trash out with us! Insane! We actually had to haul trash out with our cars/trucks. Karen's behavior and demeanor sadly made everyone uncomfortable, causing the reception to end early, my grandson didn't get his mother/son dance, nor did his sweet wife get her father/daughter dance. The fact that Karen had our sweet bride in tears is just plain awful. I would never recommend the Hidden Pearl to anyone. Too bad, I have 17 grandchildren, she could've had a customer for life.

Make sure to watch for ticks from the trees above where you have your ceremony. Lastly, i want to talk about the owner... KAREN. Lets just say she really lived up to the Karen stereotype. She was extremely rude and unprofessional throughout the entire night. She failed to let us know that we needed to haul off our own trash. She was snappy and rude with our bridal party and guests. I keep seeing reviews about how nice and helpful she was but we got the complete opposite. The only thing she set up was the chairs for the ceremony and the arch. She didn't help with cleanup at all and was nowhere to be found when we needed something. Don't expect to be able to eat while getting ready because that seemed to be an issue with her. She had my wife crying for almost the entire night and made us feel very unwelcome which led to us leaving early. Make sure to lock up your things because she will snoop through the rooms downstairs while you guys are away. You might want to ask her how to flush the toilet because shes too cheap to fix it. It was very disappointing to have our wedding night ruined by the person that's supposed to make it amazing. Its a very budget friendly option for a reason

Boise, Id. This is a very nice place to lodge for the…read morenight. It was easy to find and it has ample off street parking right next to the house. The bed is comfortable with a good firmness. The whole unit is nice and clean. The bathroom is small with no counter so if you use the top shelf to place your toiletries on, be sure to remember them when packing up (I Totally Forgot Them). The shower stall was plenty big enough for us and has a quick supply of hot water with no pressure issues. The towels are excellent, they actually absorb water and dry you off. There is a kitchen we didn't use but the full size refrigerator was a plus. The air conditioner did a pretty good job filtering out all the smoke from the wild fires. We like to turn AC units off at night because of the noise, and open a window. None of the windows here are operable though. Probably for the best considering the unhealthy outside air. The neighborhood is quiet with only two noisy vehicles all night long. Be aware however that construction begins at 6:30 am on the large project directly across the street. It is unlikely you can sleep through any of the sudden din. Earplugs would be helpful, but of course I did not bring them. The locking system for the door is a great idea and so easy to use. You get to use four digits of your phone number and it's already set up! We really enjoyed all the restaurant choices close by that were in walking distance. The route meant walking through the capitol building grounds, which were kind of cool. We didn't use the available bicycles but maybe next time!

It's crazy to think that everything was contactless. You get a code for the door, you pay in advance, and there isn't a need to see anybody. Our unit was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the walkability to downtown and the State Capital. We walked to downtown everyday of our stay. We weren't around much to soak in the property. There is laundry in the back, and a backyard you can relax in. We did read out on the porch while sipping on a can of beer. That was fun. I highly recommend staying at the Boise Guest House. Especially if you are someone that's independent and doesn't want the fuss of hotels. Oh, we never figured out how you can use the bikes. Make sure to ask before your trip. I was hoping that there was information, but I couldn't figure that out.
