Wow, And I mean wow!!! GO HERE for your eye care from now on!!!…read moreAs a new person here from Chicago, I had to find all new medical care. My eye care was the last one I found. I made and appointment with Anna Lam, OD at first to do a medical eye check. Through the 2 appointments I had with her, she was efficient, professional and SO thorough. But I needed to get my contacts and quick, because I was starting a job the following week,so I requested that t hey try to fit me in somewhere...Not only did they fit me in, but they even opened the office early for me! Astounding service, smart, caring, staff and such a convenient location! This is my go to place for all of my eye care from now on!

My Mom was scheduled on March 15th for her regular checkup, but I wasn't able to take her that day,…read moreso I called to reschedule for today instead, luckily they had a spot opened for Dr Ryan Phan instead of Paul Huynh since these guys sharing the same office. The appointment was initially at 2 PM, we came about 1:30 to make sure we can find parking and fill out all the paperwork. As indicated on the sign, even if you showed up on time, they won't see you in that order depending on what the condition they will see whoever needed first. So the assistant brought my Mom in for about 10 mins after 2, but the doctor didn't see her until 3 PM. That was a long time which I felt that was forever since I had some place to go and matters to attend, but I'm glad it's over until the next visit 6 months later.

I totally understand that it's 8 minutes till close but the business hours are 1000 am - 500 pm, when I got to the door it was locked. I pulled a second time in case it was me...there were two gals inside, on of them, not sure if she's front desk to technician had long dark hair, kept mouthing, we are closed, I tried to ask, at what time do you close? But she couldn't hear me through the closed door and windows. I took my phone out to take a photo and she comes out. She states that an employee had an emergency and they closed early today...she asked me what I needed. I said that I had gotten an mrx and wanted to take a peek at inventory to see prices and frame designs. She let me know a rundown of prices and advised I come back. I work at an eye institution which does lots of refractions and we have a large number of patients of the 92105 area and I always like to recommend a great place to go. I thought this was it. Unfortunately the quality of care for Jacqueline Le OD and Kelvin Nguyen OD is not reflected of the staff...or perhaps it is. This encounter to me showed lack of professionalism, lack of care, and disrespect. The amount of time the gal spend with me outside of the office when she poked her head out could have been a conversation we had indoors, this would have allowed for a better first impression. I guess I will keep searching for an optical place to send our patients to, because this is not it.

When you call, the call won't go through because the line is busy. The receptionist will watch you stand outside trying to call & still not come to the door to help. I called 17x one morning (not even an exaggeration) and finally I walked to their location and she made me wait outside for another 7 minutes since I couldn't get through on the phone. When she finally answered I told her I've been trying to call all morning & couldn't get through...and all she said back was "do you have an appointment"? I'm not sure how she expected me to schedule an appointment when I couldn't get her on the phone and there was no option for voicemail. It's pretty scary when a doctors office doesn't allow you to leave a voicemail - you'd think that would be required. The lack of customer service made me leave the practice. Attached is a pic of one of the timeframes I tried to get through on the phone.

I easily use readers for close work. I am nice and easy to work with. :) I had recently changed my insurance coverage and no longer had Kaiser optometry coverage. I went to the private Optometrist in Mission Valley Costco, Robin Slikker, O.D. I had a good exam and went home to try lenses. I found I was just not seeing well, distance nor close with readers. I made another appointment with Dr. Slikker, a few weeks out. Her office called to inquire why I was returning. I nicely said I just couldn't see well and maybe I needed glasses over my lens for driving. The day before my appointment her staff called me to say "Dr. Slikker reviewed your chart and, especially with the cataracts, there's nothing more she can do for you." I was shocked. I was willing to pay for another exam and glasses so I could function! I told the staff person I was very disappointed with her response. They then offered a refund. Yikes, I had never thought of asking for my money back. Of course I let them reimburse my exam costs. So, I made an appointment with Dr. Dinh at the La Mesa Costco office. I scheduled an appointment quickly. He was enthusiastic and skilled. He took my situation as a challenge and worked hard to get me a prescription I could function with. Whew! I can drive safely! I can read up close with my readers again! I am now comfortable. Thank you so much to Dr. Dinh. I would like to add the office staff were so pleasant and courteous. The optical assistant was skilled and appropriate. Joslyn and Miranda were awesome.

It was a challenge going to Costco Mission Valley on a Sunday afternoon (and couldn't find handicapped parking) but the positive experience made it worth it. And, Virginia at the front desk was so upbeat and positive and put out such a happy vibe. The exam was $99 and the additional optional retina scan (which gave great feedback) was $29. $128 total for great peace of mind. I have been to Dr. Slikker myself but I now live further away so now I go to the Costco in Poway.

Edit: changed to a 3 star because a refund was in fact issued…read more TLDR: Dr is nice. Staff sucks. I came here because I'm mid 40s and my close focus is going. So I figured I'll get a checkup. The doctor was very nice and told me I honestly could just get readers with a 1.00 and I said no I want glasses that Allow me to read things close but not have to take them off to do other things if possible. So she said progressives would work. I picked out a frame and told the staff I was interested in shades in the same exact setup. They told me shades are out of pocket and I said that's fine. A few weeks later, I'm there to pick them up. The shades have no prescription. Which confuses me so I tell the lady helping me that the shades have no prescription. She says "yeah you ordered without a prescription" I walked in wearing a pair of rayban wayfarers. Why would I need another exactly like them without a prescription? Anyways, When I was ordering them ... talking about the glass itself, someone asked me what color lenses and I said "like the g16 or whatever it's called. Just regular shades." And the person said "well they're prescription so they're not the rayban lenses". So there was an understanding that I was ordering prescription shades. As I'm talking to the lady helping me at the time of pickup, she's telling me they'll have to charge a difference for the new prescription. I ask why. She says because I need two prescriptions. I say I don't need two prescriptions. My distance vision is fine. So she goes and talks to the person who makes the lenses and comes back and says they'll fix them and they'll call when they're ready. During the wait, I emailed the doctor saying the clear progressive glasses I ordered seem to be a bit off. It feels like the readable area is very tight and low and I have to hold things very low to be able to read them. I ask if that's something that can be changed and she answered yes they can and that I should make an appointment with her staff. So I get a text saying my shades are ready. Go to pick them up. And they're not progressives. They're just readers. I'm already bothered I had to come back and now the lady helping me is trying to say that's what I had asked for. Like why on earth would I ask for reader shades?? It defeats the ENTIRE PURPOSE to have to carry around a pair of shades to read and another pair to do literally everything else. So the lady sits down and has an annoyed look on her face and picks up my glasses that I brought in to talk about. And she asks "these are correct, right?" So I say no actually I was hoping that they could be corrected because they're a little off And as I'm speaking I can see her getting more annoyed. She starts to explain why they can't fix them. She draws a little diagram on a piece of paper. And I tell her I emailed the doctor about it and the doctor said they could fix them. Her tone changes a bit like ok maybe they can fix them and I'm just done dealing with these people. I left both pairs of glasses with them and asked for a refund. I sincerely hope they honor it. I only get one weekday off and I wasted 3 of them on this office. I regret that the doctor gets a 1 star rating but the staff is horrible to deal with
