Touring the Carlsberg brewery was a super fun and interactive experience. Of course you get to sample their lagers and other beers. They tout to be one of the oldest beers in the world and they might be. Very interesting to learn about the history of the brewery and play/interact with the displays at your own pace with your group time. Afterwards, you can visit the gift shop, the hall of beer, and taproom + stables. The horses were gorgeous and they're working, where you might catch them pulling a wagon around. If you're in Copenhagen, worth a visit! read more

Truly a wonderfully done museum and tour!! I loved how interactive the exhibits were! Each person will get a wristband that you can scan to interact with the museum exhibit (take photos, create avatars, etc.). At the end, you can scan the QR code to download your goodies electronically! The museum ticket gets you 1 "welcome" mini Carlsberg beer, and 1 full size beer at the end of the tour. All the employees at the museum were so friendly! The walking tour was so fun and interesting. I found this to be an excellent tour and tasting - as a beer lover and as someone that appreciates history. I was originally slightly hesitant about the tour since it was self directed, but they have clearly spared no expense in making this engaging, interactive, and very enjoyable. I had no idea how much of an impact Carlsberg had on beer as we know it today, and it was really interesting to see how dedicated they were to not only brewing, but the science behind it. The technology and interactive events are the tour are fun, and I could have hung out amongst their beer collection for way longer than we did. SO many bottles! We got through the tour and ended up in the tasting room, where they were serving some heavy pours of three different types of beers. Should you choose to drink all of what is offered, that's easily 3 standard sizes beers, just for you. And at the end, we went up to the bar to grab another free beer, just in case what was included in the tasting was not enough. If you love beer, this is a must-do in Copenhagen. read more

The beer was great, as was the exhibition itself! My downsides were primarily that the picture saving did not work for me so I didn't get to keep any wristband media from the visit. Also I felt very rushed because we were the last slot of the day. I fell because of this great rush. The beer tasting following the exhibition tour, adding on 145DKR, is a big disappointment making us feel cheated. You're take to a room in the bottom basement, where, standing up, are served three beers, bottle and cans to pour for yourself. Very minimal explanation and not covering the main types. It's much nicer to have a nice beer sitting at the bar upstairs. Also much better value. read more

I opted to take the self-directed tour rather than wait for one of the scheduled tours. As such, I was able to walk the route through the factory to see the various pieces and parts of what was once this great brewery (the beer manufacturing is now elsewhere) with sights and sounds and even videos at my own pace. The tour is not handicapped accessible with quite a few steep stairs up and down through the factory space. So be prepared for that. At the end, your reward is a free Carlsberg draft in their bar. Of course, you're welcome to stay, eat and drink more Carlsberg. There is a free wifi there and a few tables with access to power outlets. I found it interesting and I am a fan. I've been to a few brewery tours - Sweetwater in Atlanta, Guinness in Dublin - and this is quite interesting. Gift shop includes all sorts of Carlsberg merchandise. It feels like a Deschutes in Oregon. Its all brick. There are about 5 buildings and an open garden to tour, souvenier shop and you can walk through with or without their tour guides. There are a bunch of stairs, so wear comfy shoes. There are the hefty transport horses in their stables and they do cart pulls, but today, the weather was too hot for them. There is a dedicated restaurant on the 2nd floor that serves a simple menu. Had the bbq Carlsbad burger filled with thick cut cabbage. Also had the smoked hopped salmon on ciabatta bread. Standardly good. Big bar and about 6 beer varieties of their beer this day. There is cider, too. Seems about same menu and beers available on the ground floor square. Take the bus to the brewery. It that leaves near the tourist center and across the big train station. The ride is free, but admission to the tour is not. Can pay while boarding bus with cash or cc. Best to take bus right now, as there is a lot of building construction right now between the brewery and the s train. It will also stop at the Zoo on the way returning back to the city. read more

We got a free tour of the Brewery from purchasing our Hop on Hop off bus ticket. This is not quite what we were thinking it was. My husband and I did a tour of Carlsberg over 30 years ago. We remembered that tour and the Elephant. This was not the same tour we took many years ago. This was a different tour. This turned out to be interesting. This tour gave us all the history of the brewery. But it also gave the history of beer. For example I didn't know that beer was being made as long ago as 4000 B.C. At this location is also the largest collection of old unopened beer bottles in the world. There is a section of Carlsberg exported beer bottles from other countries in different languages. The collection was in the Guinness World Records in October 2006. The bottles come from all over the world and continues to grow. We got to walk in the cellars of the old brewery. This is Denmark's oldest brewery. It was established in 1847 by J.C. Jacobsen. The name of the brewery came when J.C. combined the name of his son with the Danish term for mountain (berg) as it was on a hill in Valby. Father and son later went in to competition against each other. In 1906 the two breweries united. The brewery has burnt down several times. We toured the old brew house and a display of employee conditions. J.C. Jacobson had very high ideals and stuck to them. For example he declared that if they found or created anything in the laboratory that would or could improve beer they would share with other brewers. In 1883 their lab created the world's first yeast which changed beer production around the world. Carlsberg also has horses and stables along with early delivery vehicles and modes of transportation. The horses are rare Jutland horses. Jutland horses are an ancient Danish breed. The Jutland horses look a little like a Clydesdale horse. Maybe other breweries got this idea from Denmark? Carlsberg used these horses to distribute their beer back in the day. Now they are Brand ambassadors for fairs, festivals, marketing and PR. Every year when the beer brewed for Christmas goes on sale the horses and Carlsberg carriage take to the street around November 1st. The stables are open every day except Monday. Our free tour also came with two free beers or choice of soda in the old Jacobsen Brew house and bar. You must be 18 and have ID to drink this beer. As brewery tours go, Carlsberg delivers. Our guide was upbeat and made the tasting with history of the beers fun and enjoyable! Great to take in the museum and extensive bottle collection and the horse drawn carriage is a nice touch. With your admission package you get a couple of beer tickets to use in the restaurant. I decided to try the Master Brew which I haven't had before. It was a strong and malty beer and I enjoyed it. A great place to take visitors and definitely worth the trip! *** 3.5 stars *** A bit out of the way (although I did learn that there's a shuttle that brings you here, which I would recommend since it took me quite a while to walk here as it's somewhat removed from everything else in the city) and I'm not sure it's a "must do" as it's fairly small (compared to Guinness or other beer tours that I've been on) but if you have some extra time and are a fan of the beer, it may be worth the visit to you. I got 99 problems and a beer ain't one! ;-) Actually, we had one big problem: rain. It rained the whole weekend we were in Copenhagen and all the outdoorsy stuff I planned got canceled. Hmm. What to do?? Beer tasting! It's a bit of a walk from Nyhavn so take the bus to get here. The ticket price is 60 DKK which gives you 2 drink tickets at Bar Jacobsen. The information center goes in great detail on how beer is made (you can even smell hops that are used in the beer) and also provides a thorough family history of J.C. Jacobsen and how Carlsberg became one of Denmark's most recognizable companies. Explore the world's largest unopened bottle collection at 22,276 bottles and marvel at them. They currently hold a Guinness World record for that! I'm not much of a beer drinker but I love learning about history and why not sample Denmark's products? ;-) the Jacobsen's Dark Lager (5.8%) tastes like caramel and smells of pear and apple. I also liked the Rod Tuborg (4.6%) seasonal lager. Make sure to check out the stables and see the horses! They're a delightful way to end your visit. read more

Well this isn't just a brewery - it's basically an entire little Carlsberg town! :) First off, it's pretty easy to find given the GIANT high-rise that says "Carlsberg" and is visible from pretty much all of Copenhagen. There are also little maps as you get closer (just follow Carlsberg Street!). It's self-guided (unless you book an organized tour at an extra price), and takes about an hour or so. You get 2 drink tickets that you can use en route or at the end at the Carlsberg bar. We opted to do one of each - it was worth it because you couldn't get the beer they were offering earlier in the tour at the restaurant. The restaurant itself was very nice: had a bar area, tables, couches, bean bag chairs, foosball tables, and a big projector screen that replayed very funny Carlsberg commercials! You can sit and relax for as long as you want (and enjoy the free wifi!) I had no idea about the long history of Carlsberg and its umbrella over other big beer names (like Tuborg for example). The tour is really very informative and you even get to see the Guinness World Record holder for biggest unopened beer bottle collection: something like almost 20K bottles! (although only about 16K were on display). Very impressive all around! read more

On our list of things to do in Copenhagen was a visit to the Carlsberg Brewery. The price of admission is a reasonable 85 DKK (free with the Copenhagen Card) and includes two drink vouchers for beer or pop. The brewery has an exhibit about the history of the brewery and beer and brewing in general; old brewing equipment throughout the brewery; a large collection of beer bottles from around the world; a horse stable (those horses are HUGE!); and a sculpture garden which includes a smaller version of the famous "Little Mermaid" statue. (Tip: if you want to see the Little Mermaid statue without having to deal with crowds of pushy people poking your eye out with selfie sticks, go the the brewery instead.) After we toured the brewery, we had lunch in the cafeteria along with one of our free beers (we were just too full to have a second beer, plus we're not big beer drinkers in the first place). The food was absolutely delicious, and very satisfying. It was one of the best meals we had in Copenhagen. One of my favourite meals on my entire trip, actually. read more

We took a shore excursion while onboard the Celebrity which brought us here. I love beer, so this was an easy agreement. The brewery is located in a quaint-looking area, but so is most of Denmark. We took a tour of the museum which was boring to me as I am not one to herd along with other tourists and read overly long storyboard signs, so I zipped right through and met my spouse outside. The courtyard area is what I enjoyed the most. Very picturesque with a lot of photo ops. There were nice areas to sit away from the crowds and explore on your own. It was okay, and we enjoyed it enough. However, not quite a wow. When we found the place, which is tucked around the back of the main road and amongst the building sites and developing land, we got our wristbands (tickets). This place is included on the Copenhagen card. I loved the first room full of the bottles and didn't quite realise how massive carlsberg brand was! I mean I knew about the lager, but not all the other brews that have made. I always though Sommersby was an English cider..... The place takes you up and round, finishing up in the shop, where you can get 2 free drinks with your entrance, or 2 free gifts or a mix of both. We had a drink each and the free gift was a pin badge. It was fine to go and do, and I should imagine in the summer, you would stay around and sit outside in the gardens and have a drink in the sun. After being lost for about 2 hours to get here, I was pretty impressed about this brewery. Though I have never heard of Carlsberg, my bf wanted to go here since he is a fan of the beer. So here is a run-down of the pros & cons: Pros: Self-guided You can get as close to the horses as possible (I have astonishingly amazed how HUGE they were) Get 2 free pints as the end of the tour Tells you great information on their history, etc. Ordered meatballs at the bar & it was very tasteful. My experience here was amazing, starting with the tour of the brewery and ending at the bar. For the guided tour, you buy an entry ticket and a tour ticket (135 DK), and that gets you two vouchers for two beers total (or two soft drinks if for whatever reason you don't want beer). The tour itself was brief but informative and interesting. You learn about the history of the family that started the brewery and its relevance today (as well as historical information). Our tour guide was very amicable and knowledgable. The tour lasted about 40 minutes which was a very reasonable time. The bar (that doubles as a restaurant) was also nice. The food is really good and also really reasonably priced. The waiters need to be flagged down kind of, but they're all ridiculously nice (why can't American waiters be like them). We got the Chicken Mayonnaise Salad and Beer Braised Brisket. The salad is light and tastes good. The chicken paired with the mayonnaise works well, and the bread that comes with the dish is really good (I could have eaten that alone and been happy). The brisket was super tender, and the crushed potatoes were on the chunky side but tastes great. The dishes were also played very aesthetically. You can sit here for a long time and relax after eating, as there's plenty of seating and no rushed feeling (and free working wifi!). The waiter also gave us free peanuts! Bill added up to about $40. As for the beer, we got the Carlsberg Pilsner, Carls Special, Tuborg Rå, and Tuborg Classic (all recommended by our waiter). I can't really describe them that well (as I have little experience), but the Rå was my favorite. The Carlsberg Brewery is a place that everyone should visit when traveling to Copenhagen. This experience was so worth the money! In the admission price you get two beer vouchers which can be used to sample the Jacobson Dark Lager (the first brew!) or a few other beers at the bar. This was a self guided tour, so you can take your time going through each exhibition. There were a lot of informative videos playing on a loop in different areas. I was amazed at some of the older footage. The video of the barrels being crafted was incredible, how did they do that?? Other than extremely informative, some of the exhibitions were also kind of interactive. You got to touch items in lab, and were able to sit in a replica of the type of tables where workers sat. I had lots of fun going through their lockers and cubbies, I felt like a little kid! The horses were approachable and we got to pet them, but it made me sad because they looked really depressed. Who can blame them- standing alone all day just getting ogled and touched by strangers! Last but certainly not least- my favorite part. At the end of the 'tour', you get to hang out at a lounge area at the cafe. Here's where you can redeem your beer vouchers and get some snacks. The best part was the back of the lounge. It was equipped with bean bags and foosball tables (table football). There was no extra charge, and I don't think I've laughed as hard so much in my life as I enjoyed a nice cold beer and got my ass kicked at the game. A must when in Copenhagen! read more

I love Carlsberg beer! When I was in Denmark, I knew I had to visit. It was a little far from where we were staying so we took a bus to get there. The Carlberg brewery consists of numbers buildings and the museum/brewery took us a while to find. Just know that it's up the hill but before the giant elephants. The land is beautiful and there are gorgeous horses and great food. It costs a little less than $20 USD and it includes entrance to the museum and two small beers. The beers are great, especially the Jacobsen one! There's also a nice bar/restaurant upstairs with comfy couches and bean bags and an outdoor bar which has tasty sausages. Overall, a wonderful attraction if you appreciate good beer! read more

As a brewer of alcoholic beverages, which I never tried. I never really tried Carlsberg, which seems to be the most popular beer in country but many a bar sported the Tuborg logo too. They also make Squash orange soda which is mainly a Danish product you don't see outside the country. I would say I was mildly addicted to the stuff as I am a soft drink afficianado. It was worth it, such an interesting place and of course they have a miniature little mermaid in the courtyard. Oddly enough, I think this would be a fun place to take the kiddo too (unless of course you're Mormon, then you wouldn't be coming here period). They do have a little food court if you get hungry. Definitely one of my favorite stops in my recent trip to Copenhagen! I was looking to do something a little bit different than all the typical touristy things in the city center. After looking for some tours and stopping by the visitor center, I was super excited that I decided on Carlsberg since I'm a big fan of this kind of stuff. Location was very easy to get to via public transit (I took the 26 bus). The grounds were absolutely beautiful. The brand store had quite a variety of items and different selection of beers available. I got my ticket here, which was only 80dkk - a great deal especially because it included two beers! The girl at the register was very nice and excited that I trekked all the way from the U.S. :) The self-guided tour was absolutely fantastic, very interesting, and very informative. It covered not only the history of Carlsberg but the history of beer in Europe in general. It was so cool to follow so much history and see how everything developed. I made sure to take my time and read every single element of information. The world's largest unopened beer bottle collection was obviously impressive, I had no idea that was even there until I saw it! I opted to have my first tasting at the first stop and had my second once at the bar. They definitely didn't skimp on the tastings either, you got your money's worth! The Jacobsen bar area was massive, and I really loved sitting along the glass overlooking the production area - so cool to see everything in motion while enjoying beer and food. The bartenders were absolutely wonderful, very helpful, very friendly. I got the open faced sandwich with pork belly and it was absolutely delicious! For the beers during my stop at Carlsberg, I got the pilsner at the first stop, the Christmas beer at the bar, and then I ended up getting an additional Saaz Blonde while at the bar as well (this was my favorite of the 3). Carlsberg was an absolute homerun for me and I recommend that everyone make a stop here if your travels take you to Copenhagen. Worth every second spent there! read more

We had a very nice time at Carlsberg on our visit to Copenhagen. We had the Copenhagen Card that gets you in to many of the tourist attractions, so our entry was included with that. When you check in for your ticket, you also get a beer ticket to use during or after your walk through their museum... we chose to drink while we walked through. I got the 1883 and my husband got the traditional pilsner. The museum boasts the largest beer bottle collection in the world, which is definitely pretty impressive. They also guide you through their old factory area and display some of the vintage brewing equipment. An in-depth history of Carlsberg is also part of the tour of course, and we actually really enjoyed learning even though we aren't big museum people. At the end of the tour, you go through the stables where you can meet some of their friendly draft horses. In addition to the museum, their ground also have an outdoor bar with a few staples on tap and then an indoor bar upstairs with more specialty offerings. We purchased two flights upstairs and then brought them outside to enjoy in the sunshine. If you like beer, this place is worth hitting on your trip. read more

Having lived in Copenhagen for nearly a year, I'd been looking forward to Visit Carlsberg. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with the experience. With the "Largest Unopened Beer Bottle Collection in the World," historical machinery, a 19th-century industrial building and a brewpub, it would seem like a can't miss, right? And yet, in my opinion, it's definitely a miss. The exhibits are dull and outdated. There's very little information about what you're seeing. If you're not a beer aficionado, you'll be bored out of your mind. Even as a beer fan, I thought Visit Carlsberg was below average. And for me, the brewpub solidified that sentiment. For the 100 DKK entry fee, you get a voucher for a free beer at the brewpub once you've ended your tour. And that was problematic as well. Here at the brewpub, with shiny copper brewing vats in view, you can only pick from the two cheapest, most standard Carlsberg brews - even then, they only give you a .25 liter glass. With all of the other craft brews offered, that seemed both petty and chintzy. Unfortunately, that's my major takeaway from Visit Carlsberg: disappointment. read more

I came here during my trip to Copenhagen on the free shuttle they have that picks up patrons every hour across the street from Tivoli. I purchased the self guided tour and the tasting. Even though the self guided tour comes with a free beer and gift (a pin), I would not recommend doing it. As other reviewers mentioned, you just walk around and read about the history. I actually didn't even end up doing it because I was trying to catch the last shuttle back to the city. I do, however, recommend the tasting. It consisted of a small group and an employee taking us through the building so we could sample the beers. We didn't end up trying the Carlsberg beers, we ended up sampling the Jacobsen craft beers. The guide also gave us extensive details on each one. We ended up sampling good size portions of four beers. I do think this is worth checking out, this is a huge property with a few different bars to drink at. I recommend coming early so you don't have to rush to catch the last shuttle bus at 5PM. read more

This turned out to be one of the better ones I've done, despite having the worst flagship beer I have encountered at a brewery. Your visit is worth it for the Jacobsens dark lager, a seriously good brew. Main carlsberg bar Most people just get their free small standard drink here, as part of the brewery tour. I would heartily recommend that they follow this up with the tasters tray. This is how to try the best beers, tasting very good. They'll even explain it to you if you so wish. I came to Carlsberg for their Friday bar event, which was great! It was such a nice way to relax at the end of the week and it was a great atmosphere. We did the beer tasting to start off with, which was really nice. You try three different craft brews and here the backstory of Carlsberg and how they started out. It's great for locals and visitors alike. The tastings were quite large and the beers are stronger than your average beer, so it wad definitely worth the money for the tasting. They have some beers and sausages you can buy during their Friday event. There are picnic tables outside by the gift shop (which is open until 8pm) and when I was there they showed one of the Euro Championship games on a few televisions. Didn't do the tour when I was there, but I saw the inside area where the tour begins and that was nice by itself. Definitely worth the trip. Very fair price and an interesting place. We did the self guided tour and it worked out fine. Also there is a guided one. They have a horse carriage ride, no extra $$$. Then ate lunch upstairs in the brewhouse. Very fair price and delicious. You get two beers with ur tour. If u really like beer get it in the store...you get a lot more. However, beer house is colder and more variety. You can also get there by train from city center. read more

After reading reviews about the food, we made the trip to visit and drink some beer. It was hell. I would like to say staff were nice, but the whole experience was awful. First, my pelvis slipped during my trip and I had quite a bit of knee, hip, and back pain that was not Visit Carlsburg's fault. However, after arriving, we were met with construction and confusion as to where to go. After walking over a mile in quite a bit of discomfort, I was hot and pissed (unfortunately not pissed in the drunk way). I finally made it to the restaurant to find 3 flights of stairs -not handicap friendly. After painfully and stubbornly making my way to the top (drenched with sweat and the possibility of tears), we sat down to find the kitchen was closing soon according to the menu. We immediately put in our orders and our waitress returned to tell us the kitchen closed a half hour before (not at the time posted on the menu or website) and to put a cherry on the top of it all, our beer glasses were not full. Hell, they weren't even near filled to the .4L mark embossed on the glass. So, I went up to the bar and very nicely asked to receive the full amount. Apparently, because our selection came from a bottle, they do not fill a glass (or even approximate the .4L level). All combined together put me into quite a fit and whereas I usually wait to write reviews when I'm angry -facts are facts. Get there early, it is not handicap accessible, and you are not guaranteed to be served food at times posted online and on the menu.
