In fact, they serve a little TOO well, with little reward or benefit from the administration. Sadly, PHS Bloomington is fraying at the seams because of the toxicity that is present there, thanks to the Campus Administrator. Micromanagement, workplace abuse, quiet firings, you name it. Do your due diligence when picking this facility for yourself or your loved ones, because that toxicity does trickle down to the resident's care.

I took my mom here for rehab following a shoulder replacement, and we were generally satisfied with…read moretreatment. The place is aesthetically pleasing to look at, and it doesn't have that "smell" that some of these types of places are known to have exuding from them. Mom was happy with the room and the quality of the care. And she was especially happy with one nurse, who cut up her food. (Which, after having a shoulder replaced, really helped because she only had use of one arm at the time. It's a little disconcerting, though, that no one else seemed to realize that cutting up food with one hand for an elderly person would be a problem for her. And my mom isn't the type to say anything about it.) There was one major problem, at her release, as my mom was given a narcotic prescription to manage her pain. (She did, after all, have her shoulder replaced, which is major surgery and there is pain associated with the recovery of such an invasive procedure.) The problem was that the doctor left off the amount of narcotic pills for the pharmacist to fill. And the pharmacist CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITHOUT A SPECIFIC AMOUNT for narcotics. (They won't give you anything other than to suggest taking Tylenol!) And then we couldn't get a hold of the doctor, as (apparently) they're pretty much MIA for the weekend after 2pm on Thursdays. And, in my mind, this really was an severe oversight that so little help was available for my mom after the fact. Though I wouldn't let this little story dissuade you from coming here, BUT if you're going to be in need of prescription on an out-patient basis, I'd be doubly sure that it's properly filled out; particularly if you'll want to get it filled after 2pm on a Thursday.

The staff seems to try their best... my mom can be difficult but the staff handle her with grace. The building itself is beautiful and well maintained. The food is pretty decent, I join my mom for meals sometimes and the dining room is always nice and social. What's especially great about Yorkshire is the location. Other buildings we toured were located on a highway or in an industrial area but this building is in the heart of Edina with lots of amenities nearby. My mom uses a walker but she is still able to get to the library, the coffee shop, and the Target nearby. I think overall management is pretty good considering the high turnover that is rampant in the senior care industry. Personally I think it's stupid for people to complain that low paid caregivers are not some amazing high end professionals. It is what it is, if you don't like it, hire a top of the line nurse for $75-$100/hour! My mom's meds have never been screwed up, she is medication averse but the staff make sure she takes all her pills, her apartment is always clean, her laundry is done regularly, and they try to engage her in social activities.

They determined she should be on the memory ward in order to receive the best possible treatment. It that was their best, everyone there is in trouble. A brief summary: From 8/1 - 8/8 she had no way to summon help. On 8/1 or 8/2 she had an accident overnight. The two aides the next morning yelled at her for not using the toilet... Note: She was there recovering from surgery for a broken pelvis and hip replacement. Rarely was given a hot meal. Some meals were never brought. We special ordered meals they offer, and she rarely got them. Sign on door said room was to be kept locked (so other patients would not wander into her room). I never found it locked when visiting. On more than one occasion, aides endangered her by how the transferred her from wheelchair to bed. Or, in leaving her sitting alone on side of bed. They were short-handed, but did not cut down on the number of patients. Patients were left on their own in the hallway. One spent most of time crawling on all fours. Poor lady. I could go on, but hopefully, you get the very dark and scary picture. Urge you to not send a loved one to this modern day Bedlam.

From frequenting a national caregiver's forum, I know how absolutely rare this service is. When…read morefaced with finding care facilities, most people in the U.S. have to go it alone or with a patchwork of insufficient advice from profit-driven referral agencies or underfunded social organizations. They dig through marketing materials, sales pitches, and inconsistent pricing models and juggle site visits, never getting the inside scoop to have confidence that they're selecting the best fit for their loved one. After a phone interview exploring everything from ADL needs to personality quirks, TCC took that data, came back to us within a week with their 4 top suggestions. They offered a rundown of exactly why each would fit with knowledge of the history of each, their business practices, style of care, staffing levels, along with an apples-to-apples comparison of monthly costs. Our TCC rep met us for site visits scheduled across two days, and made sure we got the info we needed, asking questions once ours were done to fill in any gaps. At each site, we spent a few minutes after meeting with the staff to talk to our rep and she ensured we had what we needed and shared her insights about the visit. When we'd completed all the visits, we spent a few days making a decision. We had what we needed to understand the daily experience as well as both short and long-term financial effects including the impact of a potential future switch to Medicaid funding at each option. We let our rep know, and she informed each home of our decision so we were ready to coordinate with the chosen home on move-in preparation. There is truly no substitution for the amount of knowledge and guidance that you get from TCC. A year later, it's clear we found the best place for our situation with their help. They're awesome and I recommend that everyone researching an assisted living, memory care, or similar facility call them first.

We found a great place for my mom and I'm very thankful that Diana was such a great resource for us, guiding us to companies that could help my mom move, asking great questions and making sure we fully understood what each place provided. My father lived in a large assisted living facility for almost two years. As his neurologic disease progressed, that facility was unable to meet his care needs. We were incredibly lucky to find Spirit Care for the final several months of his life. The loving and sensitive staff made my father and our entire family feel at home and cared for. They went above and beyond to ensure that during his time at Spirit Care my father felt welcomed, safe, loved, and confident that his needs would always addressed. Unique to Spirit Care is the consistent and skilled caregiving team. At Spirit Care, the staff are respected and appreciated, which attracts and retains highly qualified, long term caregivers (we had experienced frequent turnover of staff at the larger facility). The owners and staff at Spirit Care constantly checked in with my father, our family, and his hospice team to ensure that he was getting the best care possible, always promoting his autonomy and quality of life. The state of the art monitoring technologies utilized at Spirit Care ensure the residents' safety and optimal health. Spirit Care worked with us to creatively adapt my father's care plan as his condition changed and they always advocated for us. Spirit Care's excellent program allowed me to let go of the role of care manager (because absolutely nothing fell through the cracks) so that I could just be a daughter again. In his final days, Ilitch, Ria, Tammy, and the entire staff enveloped us with love and support so we could focus on my father's comfort. In fact, they continued caring for our family even after my father had passed away with incredibly generous actions that allowed us to focus on grieving. I absolutely recommend Spirit Care Homes to any family looking for a caregiving home for their loved one. I will be forever grateful to Spirit Care for the role they played in the final months of my father's life. This is a top notch facility that I fully and wholeheartedly recommend and endorse both as a physician and a family member.

The staff is like a family who are looking out and always interested but also give mom respect and privacy. She has had a variety of ups and downs and everyone including the house manager, the nurse and the staff all are honest and kind with me to keep me informed and connected even when I can't be with Mom as much as I wish. All the staff seem to really like the residents and visit and chit chat when they can. I am so appreciative that I am never "nickel and dimed" for all the little things like someone helping Mom to get dressed sometimes or doing a quick coat of paint on her nails. The building smells good and is decorated for seasons and holidays. It is relatively small which we all like so that Mom can stay active and have some freedom even though her dementia is significant. Her geriatrician visited and made a house call and was very impressed at how well rooms and overall layout were designed to accommodate the needs of elderly and ability to integrate different levels of cognitive and physical abilities together. Check it out!
