Management is terrible, they expect all these expectations/high quality services from staff and employees but cant seem to notice that they're over working us. We are so tired trying to keep up with the pace of the work load. Doing our very best in every possible way to provide the best quality care for our residents. We love our job, thats why we tend to stay here so long and work for our residents. Please higher more people to put on the floor or give us a raise. So it seems like our work is actually worth something because the work load and pay isn't balanced. Additionally, instead of providing all these educational learning resources, because of how many warnings this building has gone through. Maybe we should look at why it even happened that way in the first place. Because literally everything we do is in a time crunch, of course accidents are bound to happen. Like it would be nicer if you hired more people to work, the work will be evenly distributed. There would be less of a rush and for things to be done correctly/accurately. But that int a topic y'all are ready to talk about because we know y'all can afford to hire more people to work but choose not to. Lastly, standing up for staff and employees. We are usually the first people to get accused of something and not even our own employer stands up for us. Which is why so many people leave. For example, one staff member that used to work there was accused of abusing a resident and was interrogated by police officers. After the interrogation they literally begged her to stay and work because they were so short staffed. When she was supposed to go on leave due to the allegations, and for an investigation. It was probably so traumatic for her but they just expected her to continue working. When her livelihood was on the line. Which just demonstrates that there is no support for their staff and employees. So furthermore, do a better job, there is a lot of improvements that need to be made. Im even surprised this place is still running and operating when administration is doing bare minimum and it just trickles down to all of us.

I do not recommend this place for your family as far as communication and med issues as well. the social worker is suppose to be supportive and on your side when these issues arise instead they turn their heads to this! I have made reports! not great if you want to get answers, you have to figure them out yourself And fight for your family members no one else will!!! this is horrible so much stress to go through when all you want to do is spend that energy on your sick mother! I'm sad for my mom to have to go through what she endured I was the only one to save her from harm. You trust your family with compassionate people and that's not always the case so sad! She was heavily over medicated on morphine! Than told me she was actively dying which she was not and giving last rights because we thought we were near the end when she was over medicated! You don't see red flags until you go through it wow unbelievable!!!!

The staff is professional, knowledgeable, and exceptionally well-trained in caring for the elderly, especially residents in long-term memory care. The level of compassion, patience, and attention they give each resident is remarkable. If we ever had to choose a long-term memory care facility for a loved one again, Boutwell would be our first choice without hesitation. From the very beginning, the entire staff took the time to get to know our family personally. Over time, meaningful friendships were formed, and we always felt genuinely supported as they helped guide us through such a difficult chapter in our lives. My father passed away while at this facility and they honored his life so beautifully. Words cannot fully express how much it meant to us to see the love, care, and compassion they poured into my father every single day. A family member came here for rehab in about 2012. Service was good, and therapy and nursing staff…read morewere competent and conscientious. I would have given it 4-5 stars at that time. Based on that stay, when someone in the family needed transitional care in 2016 we again chose The Gables. The place now appears to be understaffed. My family member (let's call this person "X") is at risk of falling so must be helped with every transfer from bed to chair, etc. It is often 10-20 minutes before help arrives. Early in X's stay, X rang for help getting to the bathroom during the night. After quite some time an aide came and, instead of taking X to the toilet, put an adult diaper on X (despite X's protest that they did not need or want one) and left. The next morning we had a conference with X's nurse about the incident. We made it clear that X is continent and lucid and is not to be left in bed with a diaper. Well, again last night as X was preparing for bed, an aide insisted on putting a diaper on X. X, being older and frail, capitulated to the young, strong aide, but was upset. A friend of mine who is a nurse elsewhere said this was likely done because the place is understaffed and they worry that a patient who has to wait too long will get up on their own and risk falling. My friend explained that the facility is willing to sacrifice the patient's dignity to lower the risk of having a fall on their watch. I spoke with X's nurse and the facility's nursing director this morning. They said they have zero tolerance for this kind of behavior and this afternoon they put the aide in question on administrative leave. If and when the aide returns, they will not be assigned to care for X. This should not have happened at all but because of Boutwell's timely and appropriate response to the problem, I've upgraded my review from two stars to three.

The administrator Sara is who it starts with…read more She trains her employees well and every time I have walked into the provider you see very caring employees not just doing their jobs but actually go above and beyond to make sure all their clients are well cared for. The employees I feel so little things for the individuals they serve to make sure they are treated with dignity and respect. Joy is the head nurse and she also does a great job. It is about team building and making sure new ideas are brought up to make sure residents are loved and cared for. I am so glad my mother in law care coordinator recommend to check out Gracewood when I was told there might be an open bed. They are very much about team approach.

She has had a variety of ups and downs and everyone including the house manager, the nurse and the staff all are honest and kind with me to keep me informed and connected even when I can't be with Mom as much as I wish. All the staff seem to really like the residents and visit and chit chat when they can. I am so appreciative that I am never "nickel and dimed" for all the little things like someone helping Mom to get dressed sometimes or doing a quick coat of paint on her nails. The building smells good and is decorated for seasons and holidays. It is relatively small which we all like so that Mom can stay active and have some freedom even though her dementia is significant. Her geriatrician visited and made a house call and was very impressed at how well rooms and overall layout were designed to accommodate the needs of elderly and ability to integrate different levels of cognitive and physical abilities together. I'm writing to share my profound disappointment with our experience at Friendship Village, where my…read moreaunt and uncle lived for years.  My aunt transition from independent living, to rehabilitation care, to memory care, with the family pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into FV over the years.   Having seen most of the facility and levels of care over the past 5+ years, it is clean and generally well maintained. It is understaffed and the level of turnover indicates poor compensation for frontline workers. This underfunding occurs despite the fact that the "non-profit" that owns it, Lifespace, is worth over $500,000,000. A nearly $100,000,000 expansion occurred at FV over the past few years, too.   If you are looking for a socially vibrant place for your loved one, please keep looking. Common areas are not structured to encourage gatherings; there is a dearth of social interaction opportunities and when you roam the hallways on walks or tours you will hardly encounter a single soul.   The week of my aunt's entry into hospice (at Friendship Village with an outside provider) I drove from out of state to spend what I soon found out would be her last hours at her bedside. We received barely a check-in from the staff. When I asked questions, someone would tell me they would find out for me and I would never see them again. Upon her passing, I was left on my own to navigate move-out procedures, cleaning, sorting, etc. Every question I asked was met with confusion, a promise to return with answers, then no answers. The morning after she died,  when I was coming and going with her belongings, no one checked in with me or offered any sympathy. Questions like "Where do I put the trash? Do you offer clothing to other residents or do I donate to Goodwill? What about extra medical supplies?" Crickets. Wherever your money is going, it's not going toward keeping employees current on policies and procedures with residents/patients. It also should not fall to the PCAs and MAs to do this work-- staff a place adequately to handle issues once someone dies. I was in a constant state of disbelief that such an expensive place wouldn't even acknowledge a death until two days after it happened.   Calling the business office a few weeks later to handle remaining paperwork, the individual on the phone was so cold I actually asked if she knew that my aunt died, because her behavior did not seem to match the topic.  The response? "Yes."   The first communication I received after my aunt died was two days later, via a brief email expressing sympathy, with the rest of the email detailing the cost we would incur due to leaving things behind and asking about various items remaining in the room. Now, had anyone answered my questions the day after her death, I would have been able to dispose of things appropriately. When the social worker who sent the email did not hear back from me within a few hours, she called me (I was traveling back home). I suggested that if she wanted to truly practice social work, she should find a new spot, because being the fee enforcer is probably not what she went to school for (the contacts I had with the RD, RN, and SW were generally very good, to be fair). If you do move your loved one here, plan to pay exorbitant amounts of money to do a lot yourselves. This is a sentiment I now see I share with other reviewers. Your money and your loved ones' last days are better spent someplace else.
