I went in for my eye exam and Dr. Chung found something on my left cornea and also something on my right cornea. The timing for this to happen to me wasn't the best. My husband just had surgery and I'm his caregiver and his driver to his appointments. Dr. Chung tried to remove the items off my cornea but wasn't able too. She referred me to an Ophthalmologist to have the items removed off my cornea. Nick was very helpful from the beginning of this process to the end. Nick is very polite, detailed and an asset to Vista Optical. Dr. Chung is also an asset to Vista Optical. read more

Worst experience EVER! Just needed reading glass's. They insisted on eye exam which was a joke. Not even necessary but I did for $120. Now I come back for glasses and the lenses are like magnifying glass's and now I can't read. So I put on old pair and eyes works like a charm. So now I'm on DEF CON 5 super deluxe pissed off. Now all of a sudden they say " we can have the doctor authorize your last prescription since it's better". WTF are you kidding me you should have just done that when I asked the first time! I didn't run into any of the problems others did. I came here--with relatively low expectations--to buy prescription sunglasses. Didn't want to spend a ton on them, didn't particularly have any wants in mind other than that they not look stupid. Looked at what they had in sunglasses, but frames were all too big. Then the helpful associate told me I could use ANY of the frames for sunglasses! Whoa, what a difference! Easily found a cheap frame that I liked...then noticed that there was a buy 1 get 1 free offer going on. Asked if that applied to sunglasses, was told yes, so off I went to look at frames again, this time for a regular pair. Found a frame I liked and boom! 2 pairs for less than the single expensive pair I had bought out of desperation. Can't say enough about how friendly, helpful, and nice the associates were. And I was surprised by the decent selection of frames. Only problem I had--and why I docked a star--is that I was really hoping they would come in before I left for vacation. Went in 2 days before I left and was told glasses would be in the next day, wait for the call. The next day, I waited until 3:30, then figured couldn't hurt to check. They were in...but no one had phoned. Not cool. But happy ending anyway! Will be back. read more

BLIND STUPIDITY This review is NOT about Dr. Chung. She gives an outstanding eye exam. We are lucky to have her. This is about the Vista management team. They did it AGAIN last week. I clearly made an eye exam appointment to see Dr. Chung, and the Vista manager scheduled it, all in person (as I happened to be in the store), and weeks in advance. Then, because of past bad experiences with their scheduling, I contacted them the day before the appointment to double check it, and learned that they had completely redone the following day's schedule and eliminated me from it without letting me know. Had I made the trip to the store in 85 degree heat the following day, I would not have been able to see Dr. Chung at the scheduled time or possibly at all. Because Vista's inability to make and keep an appointment schedule has become clear as a pattern, I can no longer trust them. Really too bad, as I like seeing Dr. Chung. But she is surrounded by jackasses at Vista, and any Fred Meyer management who allows this to happen inside their premises get tarnished by the association. When I want a circus, I'll buy tickets to one. I don't want a circus when it is time for an eye exam. read more

I stopped by Vista in Fred Meyer on 102nd Ave and spoke with Jove, who was more than happy to help me out and get them fitted. I will be returning to Vista for a new pair of computer glasses soon. My son and I took a chance and just showed up for an exam and was not sure what to expect. I did not know it was inside Fred Meyer, which was a serious bonus! I met Christina first and she was just as charming and helpful as can be. Since we were a walk-in and late in the day, they were not sure if they could fit us in the schedule. Luckily, the appt at the time was running very late so Dr. Chung and Christina squeezed us in. It was incredibly helpful and the exam was excellent and very helpful. Christina cleaned my son's super dirty glasses and fixed my broken reading glasses for free w/o any prompting. Overall, we had the best experience and hope others will see this review and try them out too. Great job ladies and thank you again for such a great experience and impromptu service. They would steal the crack from your ass if there was money in it. Know your insurance coverage, know they will up-sell the hell out of you with bait and switch tactics and dog and pony show games but IF YOU KNOW that going in, you'll be just fine. I did get a pretty comprehensive exam. This doc blew into the clinic just minutes before my exam appt and when I was at the front desk paying she blew out of there just as fast! It was a riot to see. She'd probably prefer working out of her car if she could get all the equipment in her trunk. I was also scolded by the doc for touching the faucet after washing my hands. Doc "Great, now i have to sanitize it, thanks a lot." Me "Well since you have to do the sink, you might as well do all the equipment we used today and maybe vacuum, it's dingy in here." Truth be told. Whomever i spoke with on the phone when making the appt went to great length's to contact my insurance provider and gather necessary information for my exam. I know this took a lot of time and she did it with a smile. Both front end staff were very pleasant and professional and the doc did gift me a box of dailies and a pair of extended contacts as a parting gift. Which i really appreciated. I utilized my insurance coverage and got a great exam ( i would have preferred the snarky comments by the doc were not part of the experience) but nothing is perfect and well, i probably egged her on. read more

I've called them the past few days and their computer has been down so they are unable to give me an update or track my order. I have been going to this store inside Fred Meyer for a few years now and have had a fairly good experience with both the Dr and most of the staff. After a recent appointment my prescription changed and I was looking for some new glasses. They didn't have frames that I was crazy about and the lenses seemed pretty pricey so I wanted to shop around. I paid for my exams and ordered some lenses for my daughter. She gave me the prescription for my daughter but not for me which I thought was strange. When I asked for my prescription she was immediately hesitant but complied after a short rant about buying glasses on-line. It seemed like a very strange interaction, I felt like I was being scolded. I honestly just wanted a copy for my records. However, I dropped into another nearby business and I did find frames I liked and more reasonably priced lenses and they asked to see my prescription. They told me my prescription wasn't complete because I didn't have a "Pupilary Distance" noted on the RX. Sure enough the PD was missing from the prescription even though there was a little box for them to write one in. The new place insisted without that info they needed to do another exam on my dime, which I politely declined. I declined assuming I could save a buck or two by simply making a phone call to the place that had just given me the exam a few days earlier, Vista Optical. I couldn't have been more wrong. I made a quick phone call to Vista Optical and explained that I needed my pupilary distance, she immediately began a rant about buying glasses on-line and rudely told me I could find the instructions to measure it there. I stopped her and explained they weren't for purchase on-line . I was trying to buy frames from another place and she told me they needed to be the ones to measure the distance not them. I politely asked them if they had that record and she said they didn't even though I certainly know they did. As I said I have 2 other pairs of glasses from there and they didn't need to re-measure my daughters or mine or my wifes every time we get glasses. She said she never heard of that in all her years experience and refused to give me the information. I asked her directly one more time and she refused. My entire family gets our glasses from there and have never ordered a single pair of glasses on-line, but after our experience that is probably something worth looking into. We have purchased our last pair of glasses from Vista Optical that's for sure. I was really made to feel like I was doing something wrong by even asking the question. The other shop may have been trying to pull one over on me by asking for a new eye exam, but still after paying out of pocket for a new exam it was still about $100 cheaper than Vista Optical. I understand that they may be losing market share to on-line business but the only thing keeping brick and mortar businesses like this alive are customer service and they grossly failed in my opinion. read more

Bought sunglasses. They charged me twice. Manager claimed the first charge did not go through and claimed may be something wrong with the card. Used a different card for the second attempt. Both charges went through and now six weeks later they still have not reversed the second and duplicate charge. Claiming it was a server problem. Starting to think this was a scam. I have been a customer of Vista Optical in Fred Meyer for as long as I can remember (10+ years). I have never had any instance that I can remember was sub par. This is usually my go-to plan to get glasses: as an employee for Seattle Schools, we have an adequate plan that usually covers every cost at the Optical Shoppe, formerly the very affordable Vista Optical, which I went to for years. I have "Transitions" lenses, a glasses-marketing term for glasses that darken when you go outside. These glasses usually cost about $50 more than the plan covers. After my appointment with the eye-doctor, I must've had a ten-minute conversation with the receptionist about getting transitions bifocals with a wider area for reading. A week later they sent prescription sunglasses. No discussion occured about whether they permitted a wider reading area for the cost of my plan. After asking to have what I actually ordered (NOT sunglasses), I was charged promptly for the difference (over $70 out-of-pocket), but told afterward it would take "about a week" to see the correct glasses. Got a robo-call from the Optical Shoppe a few days later, thought that a reasonable amount of time had passed, and prepared to get them, but called back to make sure. Receptionist then told me very sweetly, "they had only been ordered on the fourth", which apparently means that I have to wait for them to deliver them by Pony Express sometime next week. The robo-call I had received turned out to be a consumer satisfaction survey, which I elected to take. Had my appointment in July, still no glasses, which have already been paid for, and no sense of urgency by these people to correct their mistake and expedite my order. Optometrist was very good. No one was rude-- they just seem to be thoroughly forgetful, which is not so useful when you're ordering something that requires customized components, like glasses. read more

Just before Christmas, I had an eye exam here. The Optometrist, named Wilbur, was pleasant, knowledgeable, and very thorough. He addressed my right eye's small ache and occasional blurriness issue. Turns out, I needed a couple of corrections in both eyes. That's right, Glarsses. I say glarsses instead of glasses because the lenses are actually made of a special plastic instead of glass. this makes them lighter and less expensive. Now, I've always thought I had great distance vision but I could actually see during my exam what perfect vision would look like. A mere week and $120.00 later, I had stylish frames (includes magnetically attachable shades), the proper correction, and the distance vision of Spiderman. An overall beautiful experience. read more

A lady in her late 50s wearing a faux-fur coat walks into the area pushing her Fred Meyer shopping cart. "Do you have Fendi frames?" she exclaims. I keep reading. She asks again. "Do you have Fendi frames?" Right then she realizes that I, the guy in jeans and T-shirt reading a magazine, is not an employee. I went to the Vista Optical in Fred Meyer in Ballard, due to an emergency. I don't have an opthalmogist and have had no eye problems. For 5 days I experienced a vision blockage that ultimately resulted in blindness in one eye. Dr. Chung at Vista Optical saw me on a Saturday, diagnosed a detached and damaged retina and did an emergency referral to Proliance Retina in Bellevue, WA. They saw me Monday am and did emergency surgery for the detached retina, three retinal tears and hemorraging. They told me one more day without surgery would have resulted in permanent blindness in that eye. I am an artist and was terrified of losing 1/2 my sight. The surgery was a success. I am healing now and for several months. Dr. Chung saved my eye. Her exam was the most thorough I have ever had (used to wear glasses and contacts years ago). She is a marvel and a true caring pro. She made sure to find me a referral to a place that took my insurance (Humana Advantage Plan with Medicare). If you see her, you will be in the best hands. Same with Proliance Retina. read more

Now called Vista Optical. Eye examination was wonderful, but customer service at front of shop was questionable. Even as I was filling out my patient information, an employee was trying to upsell me on contact lenses (I was in for an eyeglasses examination). Later, I heard her trying to convince another customer of lenses that weren't necessary and battering away their objections. She was also the same soul who only showed me frames from the most expensive sections. I get that it's a business and they need to make money, but it felt like I'd stepped onto a used car lot! Really skeezy vibe. There was another employee who gave me misleading information about my insurance (claimed I had coverage only for my eye examination, and nothing for hardware despite having a plan that gave me discounted rates for frames and lenses), and when I disputed that, offered to call my insurance company. Okay, great. But while she spoke with them she referenced me in a way that made me seem like an imbecile. Not cool. Really displeased with how I was treated by these ladies. I ended up taking my prescription and running. read more

I walked in to see about getting a pupilary measurement (the distance between my pupils) so i could order glasses. Instead of seeing me as a customer or potential patient and treating me in a welcoming manner the 50 year-old Asian woman told me that unless i was scheduling an appointment or purchasing glasses, she couldn't help me. Yes, because being told to go away unless i'm spending money makes me so much more interested in doing business with you. I should add that this was the middle of the afternoon and the place was empty; I did not go in there during a busy time. My current optometrist's front desk staff frustrates me because they are sometimes inept but they are always kind and professional. I would never consider switching over to Vista Optical after this rude treatment. Stay away, you've been warned.... read more

I bought contacts, prescription safety glasses, and a pair of everyday glasses. great my insurance covered half of my lenses and my safety glasses, and I was on the hook for the whole cost of my everyday glasses. No problem, that is until what I thought I was getting was not what was delivered, and then was told I could get pay the difference between bifocals and progressive lenses to get the progressive lenses. I understood when I ordered my glasses that I was getting progressive lenses. I told the young lady I wanted progressive lenses, and was quoted a price of $324.00. I came in for a routine eye exam. I was greeted and the appointment started right on time. The optometrist and staff were both very friendly and professional. When I was leaving, there was a very irate man who was swearing at the staff and threatening to write a bad yelp review. I understand that he did not get what he wanted there, but even through all his rudeness and threats the staff kept it cool and continued to try to help him through all his insults. truth be told i came here because my vision plan pays the most here than anywhere else. it wasn't the absolute best experience i've ever had but it wasn't as bad as the experiences other ppl have reviewed on here. dr. wilbur is great! he was very helpful and friendly. he told me when he was in optometry school in berkeley he was taught by my former boss dr. cuadros. brownie points! i've gotten a lot of compliments on my new digs and ppl are shocked when i tell them i got them at fred meyer. the asian optician is hard to understand sometimes but isn't too pushy or overly aggressive with upselling. i am looking around for better vision insurance but until then i'll be back! read more

When I received my $600 per year contact lens prescription here I almost fainted. (My previous prescription was between $25 and $50 dollars for a 2 year supply of contacts!) When I asked if I could have the prescription changed to generic and the bifocal feature removed so I could get more affordable contacts, I got yelled at by the optometrist Harold Chuang ! Mr. Wilbur (and the associated optical shop) gets a big fat 1 star and as soon as I figured out the most effective way of filing a licensing complaint, I will (which is why I refuse to use his professional title in this review). I'd give them a negative infinity of stars if I could. I went in because I am on my last pair of glasses and the the place i normally go doesn't have convenient hours for me. After the exam, I ordered a pair of glasses from Fred Meyer Optical. 1 week later, they came back, and they seemed wrong. After 1 day, I determined they were wrong because I was seeing ghosting. Before returning for a second appointment/re-exam, I had my previous records faxed to Mr. Wilbur. I asked Mr. Wilbur to reissue the prescription for the glasses I current wear as I was having to problems and I just needed new glasses. 1 week later, they came back. And one of the lens was completely wrong an neither match the prescription Mr. Wilbur wrote; Mr. Wilbur's prescription also didn't match my glasses I current have as I asked and he provided to objection to the re-issue. While I got my money back for the glasses, I did not get a refund for my eye exam which I have zero confidence in; I will have to pay for another one and I am out both the time and money for Mr. Wilbur and the inept staff at the Optical Shoppe. And, BTW, I have a fairly simple astigmatism with single vision lens. So I cannot understand, how in 20 years of wearing glasses, I needed to go back for a re-exam and had glasses made not once but twice incorrectly. I won't go to LensShafters either. Due to an insurance change I reluctantly went to Vista Optical in Fred Meyer for my glasses (I don't think it's still 'The Optical Shoppe'). They didn't have the high end designer frame selection that my former place had but honestly they had a decent selection with some interesting brands. The staff was friendly and helpful. One stayed a little late making sure my insurance was confirmed before leaving the other on her own. I really didn't have any complaints - good, thoughtful, careful and friendly service overall. I would have no reservations about getting another pair of prescription glasses there in the future. read more

Terrible service. I was givin a wrong diagnosis. I was told I had astigmatism in my left eye. When I got my glasses, they made me sick to wear them. I told this to the staff, they told me that I wasn't used to the glasses, and to wear them longer. I ended up going back and getting a new exam, and the new guy told me I has an astigmatism in my right eye.....they are both wrong. In addition to this their scratch protection doesn't work. And their customer service is bad. They are expensive too. read more

So far 1. An incorrect prescription for a pair of sunglasses. My vision was checked and I stupidly ordered the sunglasses again PLUS a pair of glasses. 2. When I picked those up they both felt wrong but I was told to give it time to adjust to them. I tried 3 times and still couldn't see well at all. In desperation I took them to a different optician, who told me each pair did not match the prescription and also that each pair was different from the other!!! I am going to pick the redone glasses up today after waiting for them for 2 weeks. I am not optimistic. In all a terrible experience. Zero stars! read more

Now Vista Optical So I am not really sure what happened with these folks that had a bad experience. All I can say is I am sorry you did, because I have been coming here for 4 years and have always had the same AWESOME experience. Even the employees are the same. The Optometrist is magnificent! She was very prompt in getting me in, she was very caring with her treatment, and she completed probably the most thorough eye exam that I have ever had. The front counter people are so patient and very attentive to the customers. When I was in last week, they were a little up in arms and for good reason. Some woman was in there with two of the most obnoxious little girls I have ever had the misfortune to share a space with. The employees were attempting to get some sort of insurance approval while this woman allowed her girls to run around in that some space, screaming at the top of there lungs. She didn't even attempt to redirect the behavior. I think the best moment of my summer was when she finally left and took those brats with her! Hey great parenting there lady!! After peace was finally restored to the world, the staff was able to help me pick out a great set of frames and what would have cost approximately $700, after including all of the bells and whistles, only cost me S110.00 and the Optomitrist, FREE! (Thank you Renton Education Association!!) I guess all and all, with the exception of the demon spawns that were there when I arrived, I had a great experience. PS - Working with the general public is never easy, but when you have to do it in an environment (Fred Meyer) that fosters a constant community of nutbags, you would probably, try as you may, come of as a little pissy as well. Very happy with driving glasses I purchased here last year and then a new pair of bifocals that I just picked up. I normally wear soft contact lenses but with increasingly dried eyes due to age, excessive computer use and winter air, contacts are not working for me as well. I needed glasses that fit my lifestyle and that I knew I would wear. I got excellent individual help from Cassandra, especially with selecting frames that fit both my face and my budget. I totally LOVE my beautiful new glasses (Calvin Klein frames!) which arrived in less than a week! I highly recommend their services... read more
