Yes, quality of an attorney on those difficult cases will come with a price tag. If you're in need of an attorney because of domestic violence or high conflict divorce, the Kantaras law firm is the way to go.

I retained Dean Kantaras of Kantaras Law for a high-conflict divorce, custody, property, and…read moredomestic violence injunction matter involving my two young children. I hired the firm because Dean Kantaras is marketed as a board-certified family law attorney who understands preparation, fathers' rights, and complex family law litigation. And insisted he would be handling my case personally. My actual experience was the opposite. Over the course of the representation, I had approximately five different attorneys and five different paralegals involved in my case over the course of approximately one year leading to trial. Communication was extremely poor and meetings cancelled last minute or just no showed and not rescheduled. I repeatedly had to chase the firm for updates, answers, strategy, filings, and basic direction. I often felt abandoned during the most important moments of my case. The firm failed to properly prepare my case for trial. Critical witnesses were not called. Critical exhibits were not admitted or used. Motions I repeatedly asked about were not timely or properly filed. I repeatedly raised issues about the domestic violence injunction, false allegations, evidence, witnesses, and trial preparation, those issues were not handled competently. The result was catastrophic. I lost all contact with my children, lost parental decision-making rights, lost educational rights, lost property, lost financial stability, and was left with a permanent domestic violence injunction that I and would have been impossible and believe should have been challenged more aggressively and timely. I have not had contact with my children 7 and 4 since October. The emotional, financial, and physical toll on me and my children has been unbearable. The billing was also shocking. The total billing and lien-related claims exceeded $900,000. Dean Kantaras pursued charging liens against me, including a stipulated charging lien for hundreds of thousands of dollars. I contend that I was pressured to sign lien-related documents on the eve of trial or Dean told me he would not be at trial, and I am now challenging those fees and liens. One disturbing parts of my experience was that my trial attorney quit at the end of trial before closing submissions were completed. Dean Kantaras did not personally try my case. I expected a prepared, coordinated trial team. Instead, I experienced confusion, lack of preparation, poor communication, and what I believe were serious failures that affected the outcome of my case. I also had concerns about confidentiality and professionalism. There were times when my case was discussed by phone in inappropriate settings, including on speaker while non-law-firm family members were present. I did not feel my case was treated with the seriousness, privacy, or urgency it deserved. This case involved my children, my home, my livelihood, my reputation, and my future. I trusted Dean and Kantaras Law at the most vulnerable time in my life. In my opinion, that trust was misplaced. I would strongly caution anyone considering this firm to carefully review all fee agreements, charging lien language, billing practices, communication expectations, trial staffing, and exactly who will appear in court before hiring them. Ask hard questions in writing. Get every promise in writing. Review every invoice. Do not assume that a board-certified attorney's marketing or media appearances reflect the actual experience you will receive as a client. Based on my experience, I would never recommend Kantaras Law unless you want to roll the dice on losing everything and then some. I welcome anyone to look up my case or any journalist to contact me.

I got a tour of the office and to meet the partners during a recent American Institute of Architecture firm crawl. Garcia introduced the firm's history and organization. He then walked us through the design process for one of their projects. I was very impressed with his mastery of the design and all the considerations involved as well as his ability to explain the design and its features in a clear and easily understandable way. He teaches USF architecture students as a side project and I imagine he's a popular professor. We also got to meet Sol Fleischman. Kind of a legend. It's great to see an important firm with great tradition that is continuing to innovate. They showed us how they use laser printers to create 3-D models of their designs. Pretty nifty. Their buildings are around Tampa and in other areas. I loved the way they considered the way the site and natural features related to the building they designed for a medical office and integrated the wetlands and views. They also consider organizational and functional issues such as the way people move through a building and how best to make people comfortable using it so it works best. Based on my experience I would definitely recommend them. It was super fun to meet the architects and learn about the firm and some of its many projects. New as well as renovations.

I have to agree with the dad that cites Amanda Colon, as a GAL, for only caring about the money,…read moreand being partial to one parent for no good reason. I disagree that it's related to gender, because if that were true, she wouldn't have recommended that my daughter only spend every other weekend with me, the mother. After my husband & I moved further away from my Ex, he opened a petition for sole custody. Amanda was our GAL. She didn't read the abusive emails from my Ex that I shared with her, nor the texts between my daughter & I where my daughter complained about her father's manipulation and putting her in the middle. Amanda didn't interview teachers or friends' parents, nor did she look at the research I spent hours compiling about schools, including screenshots of maps indicating drive time from each parents' house during the times we'd be driving to/from school. She didn't consider the criteria that the Florida Statutes used to weigh one parent against the other, especially considering the fact that my ex is not very involved in his daughter's life, outsources his responsibilities, uses a driver to get her back and forth from school, and is out of town consistently. She accused my husband & I of coaching our daughter regarding what school she went to, when in fact my daughter sent Amanda an email pleading to attend a particular school, of her own initiative. We had nothing to do with it. That school choice would have saved my daughter hours of riding in the car compared to going to her previous school, and allowed her more time for extracurriculars. Amanda recommended my daughter stay in the same school, even though it meant a 1:25 minute car ride, each way. The school my daughter initially chose was in between the father & I and would have been a 45 min ride. Then she drug the case out until high school needed to be chosen, and said my daughter wanted to only see me every other weekend, which was not true. My daughter wanted to keep equal time sharing, but said she was confused by Amanda's explanations, and was told that the school in the middle wasn't an option, which was a lie. When my daughter learned of the outcome, she scheduled an appointment with Amanda, of her own initiative, to express her concerns, and Amanda strong-armed her into accepting what was agreed to in mediation. During mediation, Amanda shared what she claimed my daughter said she wanted, and said she's never let a child choose for herself, but because my daughter was so mature, she was going to propose that my daughter's wishes be the recommendation. Ultimately I felt pushed into accepting my daughter's wishes, which weren't really her wishes, to go to a school that is an hour and a half away, is in the father's School District, which makes it very easy for him because she can now ride the bus to school, and the school is an additional 15 minutes further south than even her dad lives from us. It is clear that Amanda did not take my child's recommendations and wishes at heart, and instead allowed her father to manipulate the situation. She then harassed me to pay the bill every week, even though I was paying what I could. She clearly sided with the father, took away the options that my daughter really wanted, and those that were in her best interest (Charter school in the middle, and equal time sharing) in favor or her attending a nothing-special school in the father's district, and me having her every other weekend. Amanda gave me this pitiful look of sadness during mediation, saying we're both good parents, but this was what my daughter wanted, but that's an act. According to my daughter, who's now getting up at 4:30 a.m. to get to school on the Friday mornings that she's with us, Amanda wasn't clear. In my opinion, she's crooked. She doesn't care about the child, just the money. If she did, she wouldn't have brushed off my daughter's attempts to communicate her wishes or discounted the options she wanted that were in her best interests. I wouldn't be surprised if she can be bought...
