Many moons ago, my sister who is a professional chef, moved to Europe to pursue a cooking opportunity. As a result of a glitch by the US Postal Service, her chef's knives that she had shipped there ended up back on our doorstep. By the time that happened, she had already replaced them, so we basically inherited a very nice set of knives. The challenge has always been finding a competent, accessible, reasonable and AVAILABLE knife sharpening service. It's either chasing around mobile trucks, dealing with weird artisan-hipster wanna-be's, going to farmer's markets, or mailing them off to some distant location. Well, the search is finally over. Ironically, it's been right in front of me all of the time. Vito's Super Sharp is an old-school family business, operating continuously for decades, out of the same physical shop. And they offer same-day service on Saturday's!! I made the quick drive over from Berkeley, pulled in to one of three empty parking spaces, dropped off 8 knives, an expensive pocket knife, and even my mother-in-law's 50+ year old professional seamstress scissors. I drove a few minutes to downtown WC., had a nice lunch, did a little shopping, stopped at a gas station, and returned back to the shop a few hours later. I was greeted by a friendly person who cheerfully gave me my knives, etc., back. They were razor sharp and beautifully polished. All of this came at a price that was slightly more than the lunch I had just enjoyed. I am officially a customer for life! I've been using Vito's for over 30 years for sharpening knives, pruners, lopers etc. They do a wonderful job! However, a Google search for Vito's might bring up a photo of the business and statement in red "Permanently closed".....this is not true. The business cannot seem to get it corrected. read more

Vito's is the only place I will take my knives and other accessories to get sharpened and I have tried others. They can do it all - serrated knives, sheers, gardening tools, etc...I have tried other places and people and have been disappointed. I took a serrated knife once to a guy who works out of Diablo and the guy ruined it, however Diablo replaced it for me. Turns out the butcher shop at Diablo uses Vito's too. read more

I'm very frustrated with Vito's. My first impression after walking through the door was is this a daycare center for preschool children or is this the right place. I was just stopping in to save my wife some trouble and pick up her grooming blades, when I was given someone else's blades. I told the lady behind the counter I was picking up a 100 dollar tab for numerous blades and scissors and she said no this is it. Okay I said after a couple more "this can't be rights". After paying the fee I head home after a long day, but I find out that I have picked up someone else's blades, I return again 6 days later and get offered store credit for my 10 dollars in gas and 90 minutes of wasted time. "I guess I'll ask for first names next time.", Is my reward for bringing back someone else's clippers and saving them the embarrassment of their horrible customer service. I think my wife and I will spend the 30 dollars in gas and go to Stockton or Sacramento instead. read more
