I called and made an appointment with Simon. I brought my mother's 70-year-old Wiss sewing shears. Simon is very very nice. After I arrived at his home, he immediately started sharpening the scissors. Within 5 minutes, the job was done, and they were very very sharp. Simon is an expert. I've been in long need of getting my knives sharpened for my work knife roll and stumbled upon Simon's drop off service. It was so easy! You drop off in a locker and message him with details (or leave the information in a sticky note after messaging) with the amount of knives along with contact information. Simon is one such fellow. I found him thru Yelp, he was the first of a few to answer my question, "do you sharpen S-Blades for food processors. I had two that needed sharpening really bad. One was a dull as listening to the nightly news with my parents as a kid. And since he did S-blades why not bring him a few of my Japanese knives for S&G's. The dull S-blade is so sharp it's like watching George Carlin or Dave Chappell tearing a heckler apart just for fun. He learned his craft in Japan, and what he's done to my blades, I can see sushi chef's bringing their prized knives to him to work on. Prices are fair. I was very excited to see Sunny and Simon set up a stand this morning at the Fremont Irvington Farmer's Market for the very first time. I had never seen them there. I received a Wüsthof kitchen knife set as a wedding gift twenty years ago which, please do not laugh, had never been sharpened. I also had many other Japanese kitchen and steak knives as well as kitchen scissors that desperately needed sharpening. I told the guys that every time I state I am going to pay someone to sharpen our knives he states he will learn how to do it-- I have been waiting twenty years for that to happen!!! Simon gave me an estimate of what it would cost to sharpen my 11 knives and 3 pairs of shears. It seemed reasonable and frankly, after a twenty year wait to get them sharpened I was super happy to give Sunny and Simon local business. The knives are in much better shape now, and I am happy with the results. The wait time to get my 11 knives and 3 shears sharpened was 30 minutes, so if you come to the market your knives can be easily sharpened while you shop for your produce on Sundays. I love that they put the sarpened knives in chipboard safety slips so they are safe to carry home. They accept many forms of payment including credit cards, Venmo and cash.
