I'm not sure how I haven't reviewed VIvencia yet, but I looked and sure enough, I've been slacking! After many trips, here is a quick summary of my most recent visit and some observations. TLDR: Love it. Visited today for breakfast with a friend, and it wasn't busy when I arrived, but was surprised at how many people arrived as we ate. It was a workday, and I thought there might be some breakfast meetings taking place, but the crowd trickled in a bit later as the morning lingered. Coffee options abound. As do smoothies and 'wellness shots' which aren't my thing but if you'd like a shot of healthy greens and a spice I've never heard of, enjoy! I had black coffee and it tasted better than most breakfast shots. They have a wide variety of lattes and other fancy custom options like the strawberry shortcake latte, etc. Ordered the breakfast burrito (sausage) and it was very good. I think I had the hangover burrito before (same thing but with gravy on top) and would opt for that one again next time. I had the strawberry banana pancakes at a prior visit as well, and remember them fondly. My dining companion had biscuits and gravy and said they were good. He is a man of few words. For dinner, they have a great menu that is 'latin flavors' as they say - everything from traditional Mexican food you'd find elsewhere to Argentinian options and more. They have great food. On a nice day, the patio is great other than the street traffic noise. This is a great option if you're wanting to get away from the other Mexican restaurants in town but still want something along those lines. read more

Finally got to this place and it exceeded some expectations, but came up short for others. Let me start off with the highest note, as their tiramisu iced coffee was the best coffee I've had in Bloomington. The food was good but gave me both terrible heartburn and an unpleasant time in the bathroom after digestion. Friendly service but a bit on the slower side. Lovely decor and music in the restaurant. Lordy! Finally - at long last - I have a STRONG 5-star review from this trip. I used to live in Bloomington and I have such fond memories of the restaurants in Bloomington and Nashville. I was really looking forward to this trip and all the amazing food. This was an amazing dining experience. Phenomenal. Delicious. We started with the sampler platter. In my experience, when you get a sampler platter, one or two things are good and the rest is just okay. Every item on the platter was delicious. Then I ordered the pabellon. W-O-W! In a word - amazing. Sooo delicious. Delectable. I practically licked my plate clean. Wonderful Latin, Venezuelan, Mexican, Colombian, Caribbean cuisine. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. The inside of the restaurant was fun, bright, and upbeat. It's family friendly and it does have options like a cheeseburger for those who are less adventurous. read more

Amazing breakfast spot with incredible flavor and a fun atmosphere. Started with a delicious horchata latte, and everything we ordered was outstanding--the chilaquiles with chicken and green sauce, Venezuelan protein platter, breakfast carnitas, and the banana bread French toast with Nutella were all excellent. This is definitely the kind of place you go with a group so everyone can sample each other's plates, or a place you keep coming back to so you can try something new every time. My only small regret was not swapping the refried beans for black beans with the chilaquiles, but that's just personal preference. Edible but not anything special. What they are charging for the quality is not great. Had breakfast and lunch food items. Breakfast was definitely not worth cost. Nothing special flavor lacking. Coffee pretty bad too tasted burnt and it had sugar in it. 16oz for $7.50 Dont go out of your way to try this one. Some of staff kinda blah too, not a lot of smiling friendliness for such smaller town. read more

My favorite item is the Catira Arepa (shredded chicken with cheese on a corn cake/taco). You MUST try the Táquenos appetizer as well (little fried pastries with cheese inside) with the guasacaca sauce (avocado salsa)! Servers are friendly and the restruraunt is nicely decorated. It can be loud in there as it is a small building and usually always busy - wouldn't recommend a big group gathering here. Parking lot is very limited. read more

My wife and I went there for breakfast on a Thursday morning. They weren't very busy and we were seated quickly. It took a while for a server to come. I ordered coffee but I had to send it back because the cup had lipstick on it. We came to try something new. When our food arrived only one part was hot on my plate. Most ranged from cold to barely warm. The same was true on my wife's plate. I would have sent it back but the server didn't appear again until we ate what we could. I had to ask someone cleaning tables to get a refill. I told the server about our food. He took ten percent off but never apologized. read more

Excellent!!!! Taco Tuesday special going on here tonight, tacos were 3 dollars each and you can mix and match flavors. I'm slightly ashamed (but not completely) to admit that I ordered 5 tacos. I got carne asada, al pastor, barrio, chiccarones, and a 5th one I forgot what it was though. We also got the appetizer sampler which was a really good mix of tastes. Our server was very friendly and answered many questions for us. The decor of the place is very wild, like a jungle situation happening there. read more

Updating my review--a Colombian friend vouches for the Colombian/Venezuelan food as being quite authentic, and I agree that it's much better than the Mexican food. The arepas are flavorful and tender, the beef is cooked perfectly in the pabellon and asada, and the vegetables are as fresh as the last time I was there (particularly the plantains)! I'd happily return but I'd just be careful about what I order. read more

Took a road-trip to visit my sister at Indiana University. I wanted to try somewhere new and came across this gem! Order the Cachapas with Cheese and Chicharron you will not regret it. We visited the first weekend in March and we STILL are talking about them today. I had to order more to go. We LOVED them. Great horchata, great variety! So happy this place opened! Definitely will be back to try more of the menu! (We also ordered Flautas, Arepas, and a breakfast menu meal!) Beautiful interior, great for taking pictures and adds to the ambiance. It's hard to describe this place in a way that does it justice - Colombia/Venezuelan? plus American diner breakfasts? with a big menu and family friendly vibe? in what might be an old Burger King building? But it really comes together! Great for a family with a range of eating preferences, tasty stuff on the Latin American side, friendly service, and a large dining room with plenty of room and plenty of light. We decided to try out this central / south American restaurant for lunch today. As an amputee I discovered the handicapped parking spots close to the entrance. I was able to walk in. The double door entrance should be wheelchair accessible. The booths sit up higher and are very comfortable. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't have to wait too long for our food. We tried different dishes. My spouse ordered the tex mex burrito. The meal was enough for two. I tried out the healthy scrambled egg breakfast. The eggs were egg substitute with avocado, green and red peppers, spinach and onions. The meal included two pieces of whole wheat toast. This is a healthy meal with meat. vegetables, protein and fiber. The price of the food is reasonable. Consider bringing cash since they charge 3.5 per cent extra if you use a credit card. First time here with friends. Everyone enjoyed their food. I ordered the Argentinian burrito. Although, in retrospect I should have ordered something else. There was no carne asada in it and only a tiny piece of avocado. The rest was rice and chorizo. It was one of the driest burritos I've ever had. Really nice spot with pretty good food. As someone who loves authentic Mexican and Colombian food, the protein platter was a little lacking in flavor or spice for me. genuinely one of the worst arepas i've ever had in my entire life. i ordered the arepa pabellon. the arepa itself was incredibly dry and the masa wasn't salted whatsoever. the black beans were unflavored and unseasoned and it was underwhelming considering the photos and price. there was maybe a smidge of queso blanco and the pabellon was okay. it was not at all what i was expecting. the service was not great either. i don't know if they just don't ever refill water but my glass was empty for 45 minutes. they never refilled it. they have americanized their venezuelan food in an unfathomable way. way too expensive, i dislike ihop but i regretted not going there instead. all of the people reviewing mean well but i sincerely hope they can consume a better arepa sometime in their lives. it's worth it when it's not so thin and dry. read more

I couldn't wait to try out Vivencia's breakfast ! I heard raving reviews about all of their food and they weren't lies. We went for breakfast - because I had to get the horchata latte. It was to. die. for. The cinnamon flavor really comes through and it comes with a little cookie ! I had the fajita breakfast: chicken and peppers on top of hashbrowns and then scrambled eggs, and tortillas. It was so good. I would come back again just for that. The food was excellent, of course, but the staff were just as good ! Super friendly and sweet. We received our food quickly and were checked in on a decent amount of times. I felt right at home having breakfast. The interior also escorts you away from Bloomington. The ceiling is filled with greenery and there are cute signs and decor on the walls. I agree with other reviews that the service is excellent. Someone's review complained that the tables were too packed, and I wonder if the restaurant considered that because the tables, while cozy, weren't so close together that it was uncomfortable. The food was interesting, and I was able to try some dishes I've never had before. I appreciated trying the new textures and a new kind of cheese, but everything I had was pretty similar. A corn/masa base of some sort with the same unmeltable cheese. Everything also needed more salt. But overall the food was good. Next time I need to try dishes that aren't so similar to each other. read more

Exciting grand opening soon! We were there the very first day for brunch and it was packed! Seemed very promising...We had Champagne bottle service and two Vegan entrees. The vegan Venezuelan sandwich was definitely our favorite. The decor was fun & whimsical. We had two managers in addition to our waitress come and check on us. We loved the patio. The vibe is fresh and so is the food. I find myself impressed with Vicencia. Imagine if a breakfast place like IHOP or Dennys connected with a local juice bar and an authentic Mexican Restaurant; thats's Vivencia. The restaurant is a fusion of those three worlds, and, while I was a little skeptical about it, it works. Our party of 6 was seated right away. There is both indoor/outdoor seating, and the place is a single level, so handicap accessible (bathrooms too). Service was great from start to finish and the price was reasonable for what we ordered. The food was fresh. I ordered my staple - fajitas - and they were excellent. I wish I had been more courageous and experimented more with the varied menu. Ah, well, I'll need to go again. (I think I shall!) I'd love to see more items on the drinks menu, but, overall an excellent experience. I recommend you go and taste for yourself. read more

Food was great! Not going to lie, if you get any omelets you could just go to ihop for a cheaper price with somewhat of the same quality. Them suckers are $14, I still got it though lol. Pancakes were good, but again just too expensive for just pancakes. You could go to Cracker Barrel and get 2 sides for the same price ($10). The waitress name was Sofia. Really nice and attentive. She kept asking me did I enjoy my food and showed great hospitality. The environment was great and unique. Music wasn't too loud so you could have conversations with people you came with. So much on the menu, definitely will be back. But yes this is definitely a Venezuelan restaurant dipped with American food. Unique! If not open minded, you might not like though. read more
