I had a very disappointing experience with this instructor and would not recommend her, particularly to adult beginners. From our very first session, she made an unsolicited comment about my appearance, remarking that I looked younger than my age -- which felt inappropriate and unprofessional coming from a teacher. Despite clearly communicating that I was a beginner, she assigned me advanced pieces -- including Bach's Prelude -- and told me I was "too old" to be playing beginner songs. This was not only discouraging but completely disregarded where I actually was in my learning journey. I also reached out to let her know I was going through a period of grief and needed a more supportive, stress-free approach to learning. To top it off, she sent -- and then quickly unsent -- a message implying our lessons wouldn't continue, because her teaching style was "too fast" for me and suggested I find another teacher. Beware: the contract includes a no-refund policy, so getting your money back is not an option once you've paid. A good instructor meets students where they are, adapts to their needs, and treats them with respect regardless of age or pace. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of those basic standards. ----- Thank you for your response, Vivian. I want to clarify that you were my 2nd instructor, not my 3rd. I also want to be transparent with readers: I had openly communicated that I was going through a period of grief and asked for a gentler approach to learning. I believe that is a reasonable request, not an "over the top" or "childish" one. As a teacher, meeting students with empathy -- especially during difficult times -- is a fundamental part of the role. Assigning advanced pieces to a self-identified beginner, collecting $450 upfront, and then canceling lessons without offering a refund are practices that potential students deserve to know about. Vivian started her lessons with me by helping me to learn notes, beat counts, and reading sheet music where my skills have gotten rusty. She used helpful games to help me remember which notes lasted how long and even suggested exercises I could do at home to help me to remember the proper notes. She was kind and patient in answering all the questions I had about the piano and encouraged me to continue learning more. In my most recent lesson I was able to play a full song from beginning to end. I'm throughly impressed by her ability to teach the concepts of piano easily and clearly. Even when I made mistakes she was able to identify them and let me know how to improve. She's fun to learn from and easy to talk to. She's has a beautiful passion for music and it's infectious while you learn. I'm excited to continue learning more and can't wait until I can play as well as she does. Overall, I would recommend her if you're interested in learning to play the piano. Beware. Vivian will take your money for classes that were never rendered and then never respond after My daughter was taking classes with Oskar (one of Vivian's employees) before he quit, and everything was good. However he quit end of July so we also stopped taking classes. I noticed my payments to Vivian were on continued to be taken out automatically for August, September and October and despite classes being over. I contacted Vivian thinking it'd be an easy fix and showed her the overpayments and asked for a refund. Never did I think I'd have to resort to filing disputes with my bank and all the headache I'm currently going through She used to be very quick to reply when I was talking about taking classes but once I started asking for a refund for classes we NEVER TOOK, she stopped responding. We have over payed by $480 and still awaiting our refund. Currently filing a dispute with my bank for unauthorized charges. See screenshots for proof. I don't know about you, but a piano teacher with such poor ethics is NOT one I would want for my children. Stay away. read more

I cannot understand how Viviane has 5 stars. My son started at the end of summer which exactly lasted one month. She ended it before the next month was due. According to my son all was going well, he enjoyed going and felt confident about his lessons. In the beginning before lessons started she wanted us to purchase a piano before lessons begun. I asked if we could just start we him practicing on a keyboard at home until we are sure this is really what he wants to do. She said no it had to be a piano so within a week we went and got a piano and within 2 weeks Vivian said she got a new job in Los Angeles and would not be able to provide my son lessons anymore. I found Vivian on Yelp and was impressed by her consistently good reviews. I play the piano myself, but wanted someone with a stronger teaching ability to work with my 5-year-old. With that said, I was willing to drive 35-40 minutes to Corona for an exceptional teacher. Vivian seemed pretty pleasant by phone and via text. Her prices were reasonable and I appreciated her recital schedule. I made arrangements for my daughter's first class and, the day prior, Vivian text that she likely couldn't make it due to attending a funeral. She confirmed the morning of class that she would need to reschedule and I completely understood. I don't fault her for that at all. The following week, though, I text her on Tuesday to double check on Thursday's lesson and she confirmed it. Thursday morning I told my daughter we were going to her first lesson and she was sooo excited. She picked out her outfit, painted her fingernails, and she practiced pushing random keys on our baby grand. We got in the car and started driving to Corona when I got a pretty generic message that said "unfortunately due to some work related issues I am no longer able to accept anymore new students" and "this issue is something that needs to be taken care of ASAP". She apologized, but seriously?! I really don't know what to make of this "issue" that couldn't be detected prior to 39 minutes before the start of class. Needless to say, I broke the news to my daughter and turned my car around, which resulted in total devastation. If and when she has another opening, I have no interest in doing business again. read more
