One of the worst customer service debacles in my (long) lifetime. AVOID VIVINT. I called Thursday 4/23/15 to activate service on an existing Vivint system in a house I just bought. Everything went fine, then they sent me to a second rep for "closing". That rep dropped a 42-month contract on me, something the first rep omitted from our conversation. Why do I need a 42-month contract when all the equipment is already installed? That rep couldn't tell me why! I cancelled the "install" but that did not stop them from charging my credit card for an install that never took place. She opened a "dispute" and I got a call the next day, from a "dispute resolution" person who treats me as if I have an account with these idiots. Needless to say I am never doing business with a company with such deceptive business practices. At one point in the initial setup, they asked for my social security number, and I gave it to them. THEY DO NOT NEED YOUR SOCIAL (you know how I know this? The vendor I finally went with - Westec - does not require it). Do not ever give your social to anyone over the phone. All it does is give the vendor's employees the opportunity to commit identity fraud. UPDATE 5/27/15: Got my credit card statement, and they never refunded the $109 charge to my card as they had promised to do, So they lie. First off Vivint's Customer Support is awesome. Not outsourced overseas and keeps jobs here in the U.S. But the quality of the products they install are terrible. I have had to call and have my door lock replaced 4 times over the course of 3 years. I might have to call again becuase it keeps throwing communication errors to my panel. Another thing that I hate, is that Vivint does not offer current customers the ability to upgrade their panels or add new products to their system without paying full price. There is no reward for staying a Vivint customer, and it seems after they lock you in to a couple year deal they throw you aside and focus on signing up new customers. I have had Vivint service for more than six years and recently had it installed in my new home when i moved. The service is great, and the system couldn't be better. The home automation controls we added into our new home are very convenient for my family; we are able to control lights / locks / HVAC / video surveillance all remotely and automatically. I was able to save money on my homeowners insurance, but the biggest benefit is the peace of mind. My system is armed every night. read more

Absolute Garbage. The used car salesmen of home security. - 6-hour installation appointment stretched out to 12. Tech and Customer Support were not anywhere near the same page, and could not agree on what services were ordered. This was all PTO for me, so of course I was elated. - Had a door lock that showed as not locked when it was locked because the bolt didn't reach home. Told them several times they needed to either adjust the bolt settings or drill a deeper hole in the door frame. After fighting this for months, a tech came and did just that - two hours for fifteen minutes' worth of work. - After verifying that unlocking doors disables my alarm, had four false alarms from somebody entering my house using the correct code. My police department charged me $25 each time. - My doorbell camera detects a visitor every time my porch flag waves. Absolutely unacceptable. This can be fixed with a simple anomaly detection algorithm, but I doubt anyone there can even spell "anomaly" or "algorithm", much less do the required coding. Multiple techs "fixed it", with no change. I called and told them to fix the problem or come get their stuff and lose me as a customer, they said it could not be fixed and - HA-HA! - that I can't cancel until I pay off CitizensOne. If I'm returning your product, why would I still owe you money? If I'm still going to owe you money, why would I give you anything back? They deflected for ten minutes when I asked to speak to the CSM. Something tells me he gets a lot of calls... THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART: VIVINT IS NOT IN THE SECURITY BUSINESS - THEY'RE IN THE CONSUMER CREDIT BUSINESS. ADT sued this company in 2017 for deceptive business practices. They settled for a grand total of less than half a million dollars, which they were able to make back with 100 new customers. They now belong to a hedge fund, meaning that the money game is that much more a part of their business model than it already was. read more

I saw an article about Vivint Internet and was very excited about their "up to 100 Mbps for $59.99/mo" Internet service, so I called them to see if it is available in my area. They told me it is not -- which is perfectly fine, of course. However right after this, they said that they could still help me and will transfer me to "another department." After a wait on the phone, someone picked up on the other line and I started talking with them only to realize that they had transferred me to AT&T (!!). They did not say that they are transferring me to another company, let alone asking if that is OK with me. I can imagine why they do this -- they probably get paid for each lead they provide to AT&T and if they had told me they'd transfer me to AT&T I might have said I don't want that (in fact, I am sure i would have) and they would have lost the referral fee -- but I find this a completely unacceptable way to treat (even potential) customers. read more

I LOVE my Vivint system!! I never had any use for an old alarm system, we would have only used it maybe twice a year for vacations, but since the Vivint system integrates my ENTIRE home I actually use it daily whether I'm home or not. The most important part of my life, my home and family, is now on my smart-phone. I control my lights, locks, thermostat, garage doors, cameras inside and outside, and there's even an intercom on my porch from my smart-phone now. I use the locks, cameras, and thermostat the most. But there's always a use for every part of the system. And the best part about it is the service from my sales rep, who will literally respond my phone calls and texts within a day every time when I have questions or need help. Some people warned me against the negative reviews online, but now I'm like "well who was your sales rep? Too bad you didn't have mine;)" Make sure you get a CAREER oriented sales rep, one who has been with the company a long time, and who plans to stay, you'll always be taken care of promptly in that case. And I've seen / used other home system apps but this one is the BEST and easiest to use by far. Better than Nest, Digital Life, and Pulse. read more

Have been a loyal customer for years and very happy but now giving them a 1 star rating due to ZERO lack of service. I have a Vivant door lock that suddenly quit working. Talked to 4 different techs who gave conflicting advice, stating what the previous person told me was incorrect. So raises the question how well their techs are trained. Finally threw up my hands and asked for an in person visit. It will be OVER A MONTH until someone can fix my lock. Until then I have a non working lock. But until then they plan to charge me FULL PRICE for a service they I am not receiving. This is ridiculous. I had been considering a second door lock with them but no way. Fool me once... read more

Had my system installed on Saturday and called on Monday to have it removed from my house. All I can say is "Thank God for the 3 day Right of Rescission clause". On day one, the comedy of errors began. I had been sent an email stating that my technician would arrive between 8am and 11am. At 11:45, I call and ask where the technician is. After being on hold for a while, I'm finally told that my name isn't on the schedule for today. They said that they would get someone on their way. My demand, was that if someone wasn't there in one hour (with all of the equipment), to not even bother showing up. The technician showed up in time and with the right equipment. Within 24 hours, my patio door sensor had failed and I called customer service to have another one installed. The rep offered to have one mailed to me, to which I said that the system hadn't been installed for 24 hours and that they needed to send someone to replace it. She said that they could do that, but it would be in 10 days. Keep in mind that there is a 3 day clause that you can cancel your contract. She promised that someone would call the next day (first thing in the morning) to get that set up. They didn't call like they said that they would, so I get an email confirming that they will arrive in 10 days... I called when I was on my way home and wanted to cancel my service (unless they could have someone replace the sensor before midnight), even talking with a "supervisor", she couldn't cancel my service... Just extremely dissatisfied with the lack of follow through, lack of customer service, lack of caring. Don't get me wrong, their products are nice... But if you don't stand behind them, what good is it? Overall, I'm just let down by the lack of integrity of a supposed "security" company. read more

Vivint it beyond terrible!!! I could not wait to cancel once my contract had expired. Their monitoring service is so bad and as a customer you are expected to program your own equipment. If you can't figure it out expect to wait a long time for a service call and then get billed for it. I have filled a complaint with the BBB. I've been debating on whether or not to post this for a while and this morning I finally experienced the 'straw the broke the camel's back.' I cannot even begin to explain how dissatisfied I have been with Vivant's service. And naturally, since we are locked into a FIVE-year contract, or is it three, anyway, whatever the timeframe, it's far too long for my liking. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much we can do from a consumers standpoint (though their products are beyond consistently unreliable). I would love to cancel and have them come pick up all their products - I'm at my witts end with Viviant. We, weekly, experience issues with our Vivant home security services (I've attached photos just from this morning's festivities). Those issues range from 1) The app not working properly, or at all, [i.e., opening/closing our garage, or arming/disarming our alarm]. 2) Our cameras continuously going 'offline' (which we always have to call their customer service and invest entirely too much time into getting resolved; it seems like almost weekly we have to do this). At one point, our cameras were offline for over a MONTH!!! I'm sure glad no one decided to break into our house during that time because we wouldn't have had video footage of the criminals and I'm not at all confident the alarm system would have even worked adequately based on ALL our past issues. 3) One early morning this last week, our alarm went off own its own while we were sleeping. The representative (and the app) told us it was set off from the panel, which there is no way that happened as we were both in bed until being scared half to death with the alarm triggered. 4) We have literally been prisoners in our own home because of our Vivant alarm system. We could not disarm the system form the app OR panel. That triggered another hour to two hour-long phone call to customer service. We were then asked to pry the front panel of our alarm system off because could not exit our house because of system malfunctions. The technician then proceeded to put the alarm in test mode before telling us to get tools from our garage. Had he told us he was putting the alarm in test beforehand, we could have collected the tools we need AND he could have disarmed the false alarm that would have been created, which wasn't an option after he placed the alarm in 'test' mode. I could go on, but you get the idea. I think what is most upsetting about my short experience with Vivant is the amount of time my husband and I have had to invest in trying to keep our Vivant system operating as it should on its own. We endlessly call their customer service number, and we are never offered any credit (or cancellation options) for the continuations time we have to take away from our family to try and solve the never-ending issues we experience with all of their products. If you want to pay way too much for a way too unreliable security system, this is your company! read more

I wish that I had done my research, before letting a representative from "Best Buy" convince me to switch my home security system. Please "DO NOT INVEST IN VIVINT SMART HOME". They are no longer affiliated with "Best Buy" and their system has stopped working three months after installation. You know I am one to pass on company's who are great but I even got my grandma in another state set up with this company only to wish I had never come across this horrible company who doesn't care how they damage and hurt their customers! This is way over priced crap that has hurt me financially. I am someone who usually is okay financially secure with a savings. This year I have fallen on hard times with my health. My contract was for payments they took almost $3k out of my account. I called 4 times in a month each time they said it was their mistake and would put it back in my account. I called today and they told me they couldn't do that but that my service payments would be lower and sorry for the inconvenience. I told him no this is so much more then just an inconvenience. I have medical issues where I haven't been able to work. How can they do this to me when it was their mistake?! I was approved and signed for payments! They wouldn't let me cancel with them so I am stuck! $3k isn't $300! The money is for me to survive this rainy day and for them to take it without permission then to not give it back! They didn't even give a damn how much I needed my money back! It wasn't until I told them I would be calling the media about this crap they started to get things going to get my money back. I am not holding my breath that I will get my money back they have told me this 4 times now! If I don't get my money back by next week I am calling all media. This is wrong!! What do they do to people who aren't able to have had a savings account?! Mine is almost gone and I was prepared! You make me sick and can not wait for the day I can be done with your dishonest company! I will be letting everyone I suggested to get Vivint not too! UPDATE: Finally was able to get to a decision maker to get the buy out offer. Still had to pay a lump sum to cancel the contract. I talked to my state's attorney general and advised them of the general maleficence. This situation is resolved, but not in my favor. Beware of signing any contract with them, as I was pressured into it to get a 'lower rate'. I tried to get out of my contract, and they will not send me the buy-out letter. It is in the contract language that they must allow the customer to pay off the contract, their customer service verbally told me they do this and to send the requested documents to their documents email. After doing so, they never sent the pay off agreement! Do not sign a contract with this company, as you will end up in legal limbo. In my case, they did not follow the agreement terms. Not only that, but they told me they would refund defective equipment but never refunded me! In addition, I found out they use a separate company for their installations, yet it is still Vivint employees (e.g. their paycheck says Vivint). Also, their loans go through a 3rd party, Citizen One loans. They are selling you a loan through a 3rd party to pay themselves! You get stuck with the loan regardless of the service quality or anything else (such as my bad equipment that they agreed to refund but never paid out). read more

I would record your calls with sales agents. They really will say whatever they need to make a sale. I have a doctoral degree- I am not stupid by any means-- how they do this is WRONG. Completely unresponsive and takes no accountability for products they sell. When I first signed onto vivint, I was only given the choice to utilize nest. Which was fine with me, However since that time they no longer have a contract with nest and I continuously have issues controlling thermostats from the app or panels, which I paid for, they won't send a technician, they won't give me my money back. **BUYER BEWARE** I've been a customer of Vivint's since 2014 - and it was the WORST mistake I've ever made! Almost immediately and just about since day ONE I've have had nothing but issues. Whether it'd be faulty equipment, false alarms (resulting in Bridgeport Connecticut's PD and/or FD to my home), premature failures in equipment, etc. I've made every attempt to try and cancel but shortly after joining in this farce of a company... they've managed to keep me as a paying customer. It got so bad that in the beginning they off ered be lifetime "free" service calls., (which is not inclusive as the norm). After the other night though I've had enough, and reached out to my local news "Troubleshooters" for their help. Approximately 11/18 I received a 'cold call' from a rep at Vivint asking how service was working for me; etc. and though I expressed (may times prior) my previous complaints; and displeasure this rep; was successful in 'up selling' additional equipment to me... and advised though a supposed recorded call - my monthly additional charges, and that there would be no upfront costs. To my shock a week later - I happened to look at my bank account and seen a withdrawal for $-183.43. . I immediately signed into the website and to my shock I was billed for the equipment! I contacted Vivint and was blind-transferred 3x after this; I spoke with a rep and I advised not only was I unhappy with the transferring unnecessarily but - that I wanted assistance from this rep and if no one else, a supervisor. After a 3+ minute hold, the phone began ringing and another CSR (Customer Service Rep) answered the call. I immediately handed my mother the phone as I was in no further mood to talk. My mother (Co-Owner of Home/Contract of service) briefly explained the reason for the call... yet the rep said we were to be billed for this equipment. Though speakerphone, I heard the conversation and got on the phone to speak with Juan (I have ID#) and he repeated we were due to be properly billed for the equipment and asked whom I spoke with when initially offered this equipment. I politely said I did not have the name(s) - as there were multiple people I spoke with during the up sell call and asked for a supervisor or someone who can help me with this issue and to CANCEL the remainder of this contract/service but... he stated he could not directly get a supervisor but would again need to transfer me to another department as "he had other calls to take" - beyond my anger I stated to go ahead to transfer me, and then I was disconnected! I've worked in the Customer Service and Sales Industry for 20+ years and I've never experienced anything like this. If I treated my customers/clients that I've worked with - as I've been for treated 3+ years I would have long since lost my employment., for insubordination, at the very least - as I know for a fact you cannot treat a customer new/existing like this without word spreading and eventual loss of the customer, and potentially the company! There are so many negative reviews of this company online besides here, but the old saying applies "if I only knew then... what I know now" applies for sure! My own Great-Aunt who is a neighbor told me shortly after I joined with Vivint stating "Jeez, I wish I knew, I would have told you to stay away" as she too, had issues and received false/empty promises. I have had Vivint for 2.5 years now. Installation was really a pain, with two incompetent installers who took 6 visits to get the system working. I have a large house with lots of sensors, and only a limited number of them are accessible via the alarm.com app, which has lots of options for a variety of alerting methods (SMS, e-mail). I set and disarm the system several times a day. I've had alarms go off a couple times, and response from the monitoring center has always been fast and competent. The Vivint app on my iOS device is easy to use and always works. read more

The equipment is in a constant state of do I want to work today? That is the cameras! Sometimes they work and other times it a toss up! The overall alarm has been great and couldn't ask for better. The service for the alarms are a quick and on the spot kind of service you want. Especially when you have an alarm, they come on the panel and talk to make sure you're ok , they ask for password and double check that you're not in distress. But service on camera issues isn't what it should be. We've had camera issues for some time now and were told someone would get back to us because the technician and I couldn't establish what was wrong with cameras. So its been three weeks now and still now contact. But like I said, the alarm system is flauless. They need to nail down the issues with the cameras! read more

Frustrated - I had Vivint come service my alarm wiring for remodeling. The technition was late after waiting for four hours and did not notice additional wiring that would need to be moved. Now I have to have him come again and wait another 3 days to get this done. Customer service did nothing to help expedite this in any way. When I got my alarm installed June 25, 2019, the salesperson said to keep the monitoring service till January 2020. Thereafter, I could go down to self-monitor, and still enjoy the benefits of the app. Fast forward to today, I try calling Vivint at 800-216-5232 (customer loyalty) and they tell me it's not possible. Customer loyalty puts me on hold to see what he can do (Christian is his name), and he hangs up on me. Accidentally? Maybe. I call again, now mind you I'm on the phone for 45 minutes (this time), and I get hung up on again!!! I call the number a third time, and a customer service person stated that she would put me on a "call back" list. Guess what?!?! Never happened. Horrible customer service. I guess that's what I get from buying a $2,650 alarm system from a door to door salesman. The reason for my call is I would like to know the different monitoring packages. Like I stated initially, the salesman said I could change to whatever package I want. Is this true? Or did the salesperson say that to close the deal. When I signed up, the people were so nice and helpful, also local. If you have a problem with email, online issue, God love you. My first call today lasted 50 minutes and still no solution in site, HE HUNG UP ON ME! 50 minutes people!! I called back, crazy huh, asked for a customer service manager. He said he would fix the problem. I went to the panel he told me what to do, it didn't work after 20 minutes again no cussing involved, HE HUNG UP ON ME! I'm always intrigue by Vivint since I first heard of it. While shopping around for TV @ Woodland Hills Best Buy, I came across Vivint's show room. They had a special going on and I can try it out for two weeks then I cancel if I decide not to keep it no questions asked and no additional charges. I signed up, for a doorbell camera, 1 motion detector, 2 door/window sensors and 1 outdoor camera. It came with the new sky panel as well. Install went smoothly, my only gripe is when viewing videos on the panel, there's a delay but on your mobile device there isn't. The outdoor and doorbell cameras are really clear even at night. I decided to keep it and will add more stuff later on. You need to give Vivint a try. With all the bad reviews, they are doing the best they can to be the best out there. read more

System works good as far as getting emergency service response (when monitoring subscription is in place). However, if you use internal door locks or garage controller and have guest in your house with limited access - they can lock/unlock or open the garage just by walking to the alarm panel and clicking the button - not good. This is a major flaw on this system. For instance, my wife and I do Airbnb at the house. Thru the Vivint app we can create limited access guess/users to arm or disarm the system, it is easy to do even thru the app on our phones. However, when the panel is in disarm mode it shows the option to unlock internal door locks and to open the garage controller without any restrictions. So, if you use internal door locks and/or the garage controller to prevent unauthorized access to certain rooms within your house.... and believe that a limited guess with no access can not open those locks or garage door....think again!! They can open them by simply walking to the panel when is in disarm mode and "touch" the unlock button for the door lock or garage controller. This makes the system a waste of money, in my case. Now, i have to unpair door locks and garage opener from the Vivint panel (hint - waste of money) and link the door locks and garage opener to my Smart things controller where I can control 100% who can unlock a door lock, and who can have access to open my garage door. Terrible customer service, terrible security system, terrible response rate. If you want to talk to 5 different employees in one day and get put on hold for about 30 minutes at a time, then this is perfect for you! I swear the only time someone actually calls me is if I complete a bad survey after a phone call (which is often) and they don't even do anything, they "just submit it to the managers" whatever that means. So many issues and I've only had the system for a month. One issue occurs where they system should protect my home, and the tech set a camera to live video instead of actually recording which I had no idea about. I'm not the tech you would think they would set their equipment up properly. Now they are saying its my problem since their system was in place.... yeah not working properly! What the hell am I paying all this money for? Answer is... to watch my dog on a live video feed. I can buy a 200 dollar camera off amazon and get a better feed quality! Unless you want to be stuck in a contract like cellphone/ tv companies and find out once you signed up you open "a small loan" with a bank choose another company. read more

I was with ADT for 15 years and never got a discount for being a loyal customer, never got a call from a rep asking me how my service is doing or even a new sign for the front yard. I decided to try Vivint and its been the best decision, I am now able to connect with my alarm thru my phone, get a new sign whenever I call and an even lower rate! Being a senior on a limited income, my monthly service kept rising-without notifying me. I began with a reduced rate with automatic withdrawal and never thought about it. After 5 years or so of monitoring, I decided to change to another company. As directed, I faxed a letter stating my request to cancel prior to the next months auto-withdrawal. Unfortunately, they continued to take money for the next months monitoring from my account. When I called, I was told that I didn't cancel soon enough-that it was in the contract. My contract was for only 2 years in California and this is 5 years later. After much discussion, (they even offered me a reduced rate to stay) the finally agreed to refund my one month's fee. It never happened! They wouldn't prorate the month or anything.I am very disappointed in their customer service and lack of accountability they have for their customers. read more

ZERO STARSSSS! Save your money and your sanity!!! The cameras don't work (won't record for days) and the overall system is entirely unreliable. Even with extended WiFi and high speed wifi 300mbps or multiple routers - they work with they feel like it. There has been several instances where the camera did not catch me testing them or incidents that have occureed (full gas can was left spilled over where two cameras should have caught them within seconds (no more than 3 min) before and after OR someone walked into my home and the alarm didn't go off yesterday). Funds (hundreds) were charged to me (on a recorded line with myself and the rep) agreeing to financing and weeks later I was hounded for full payment of the previously financed devices. These devices were also sent to wrong address though mailing address was explicitly provided. Was told I was receiving a free airbridge to resolve my issue - not only did I not receive an airbridge, but a technician advised it would not fix my issue only strain my WiFi. The alarm has gone off randomly with no one entered the house in the middle of the night. Appts for techs are 3+ weeks out - which is crazy from a security perspective. Phone rep literally said they don't have techs that service the area. Why would you sell it to me then?!?!?!!!! Just want out of this miserable experience! Can I give a zero? Had the system 1 1/2 years. Problems started the first week. Thermostats have been replaced 4 times. Cameras have gone offline a couple of times, and having to get a tech out this week. Equipment is cheap and shoddy. Online/call-in support is 100% worthless -- people reading from screens. The home techs are actually pretty good. Oh -- one of the techs told me they not only recycle refurbished equipment (which they pass as new), they are told to use those first. I obtained services from Vivint two years ago as my security company where I paid $57.49 per month. The latest payment was made on 3/25/19. My contract ended with Vivint three months ago, and I was on a month-to-month payment arrangement with them. I have been having financial difficulties, and was having problems paying in a timely manner. Therefore, I decided to cancel with them. I telephoned Vivint on April 4, 2019, in the evening and was told to call back at 5 a.m. (cst). I called twice before speaking to a representative. I was told that I cannot cancel for 30 days according to a contract that I signed - I would receive an email and had to put the request in writing. I also had to wait 30 days and call to request cancellation; if during the 30 days, the date of my monthly withdrawal occurred (the 25th) the $57.49 would again be withdrawn from my account. Vivint withdrew $57.49 from my account on 4/23/19, two days than they normally deducted my monthly payment, but still will not cancel me. Also, since I am also no longer under a contract with Vivint they should not be able to take any money from me. This is outrageous! A consumer should not have to wait 30 days to cancel the services of a business. What rights do I have? This should be illegal, why does the government allow consumers to go through this. They should be disbanded and there should be a class action lawsuit against VIVINT -- they have multiple names but are the same company. DO NOT USE THEM! BUYER BEWARE! read more
