I was talked into the Vivent system by the salesperson. I should have known better. He promised it would be cheaper thatn my present system and would work with the equipment that I had including the fire alarm. Was he ever lying thru his teeth. I just found out that the fire alarm does not work with the Vivent system. He lied to get the account. If you go with the vivent system, have a tape recorder to tape what the salesman says. I have been without fire protection for at least three years and found out only when the alarm went off and Vivent did nothing. Also it is not cheaper. Another lie. It is a buyer beware system and be forewarned. If the salesperson comes to your door, slam it and go out the back. The ADT system was better and I could have added the cameras to it. I would give them a 0 but not an option. When they put the system in the wiring was so bad they had to come back. Not a good experience with Vivint. The sales rep said what he needed to do he could close the deal. The sales rep, and vivint customer service have declined to make right what they promised leaving me with $1200 in equipment that is useless. They only offer me to cancel. The sales rep was always very receptive to helping me until there was a problem, then he disappeared and won't return my messages. I don't usually write reviews but after this experience I will def write all my reviews to give good credit where good credit is due. This is not the case with our experience with Vivint. Our door to door walk up salesman Justin was very nice, he came late in the evening and I even made him sausage and eggs. After his very selling speech and sounds to good to be true promises we should have stopped there, but..... we signed up. First off after recently purchasing our new home the "loan" for the $4000 worth of equipment was denied and they put in on "their" credit card which totally hit my husbands credit score. Justin said it was a soft credit and would not affect the score but it did hit hard. Lowered it by 50 points. Then his team came out to install, wholes in the walls and damaged our garage door they didn't leave until midnight. Then the fight with Vivint starts, they did say that they would pay the $500 for the garage door guy to come out, but that was after a week of trying to get them too which ran out the 3 days stating we can't cancel (which our good guy Justin said there was not contract and we could quit anytime( READ THE FINE PRINT BEFORE YOU SIGN) Now they send us an agreement stating it is releasing them from ALL once the garage door is fixed, another fight. But all we can do is sign it and move on hoping nothing goes wrong because apparently after reading the not so fine print, just wordy so they can CYA they won't fix anything else. Our guy Justin said it's such a good company, they pay for his place to live here in Utah and take great care of their employee's so they can screw us into false promises. I am sure some people have great luck and are very satisfied, it's just when there is an issue that they get over. I will say I like being able to see who is at my door, being able to see all cameras all the time etc. But at $4000 (he said it's like buying a cell phone, you will eventually own it) plus $115 a month, it think we could have gone an easier and cheaper route. Vivint is the worst purchase I've made as an adult. My most recent move was the absolute worst! I called Vivint to tell them I was moving. They send a technician out after my move-out date. The Property Manager denied the Vivint technician access to uninstall the equipment. She said Vivint should have scheduled the uninstall before my move out date. I call Vivint to place a deferment on my account since I had no equipment and no new address as of yet. They placed a 6 month deferment on my account. I received a bill for the last month of service at the old address and the $150 move fee. I asked the Vivint representative if I could make partial payments until the balance was paid. He said no it would have to be one full payment. I told him I'd make the payment in a month and asked if it would be sent to collections before then. He told me it would not be sent to collections until after a year. That was a lie. I got an email from a collection agency two weeks later. I call them and they say they'll take $120 and I would have to resume services BEFORE my permitted deferment was up. Now I feel like I'm being bullied to resume services. I still need equipment and was told they'd give me a good discount but I'd still be responsible for the line of credit on the old equipment. To sum up this review, don't answer the door for these people. Go to Amazon, purchase and monitor your own system. It'll be a lot cheaper and no headache. read more

I haven't even had this system for a year and it hasn't worked well ever! Terrible customer service. The first rep didn't even address the issue. Second time I called the rep told me I needed a certain type of screw driver to take the doorbell camera apart to fix. What? Why am I fixing something for which I'm paying over $2000? Absolutely satisfied with service and product. The app runs smoothly and puts me in instant contact with my home. I've noticed some people saying the cameras are slow but I've yet to encounter that issue. Guess those individuals have poor internet speeds. What you dont realize is they cut off your ability to monitor your house yourself with the app. You can't access your cameras or anything remotely. Vivint is the worst!!! If I could give them 0 stars I would. Customer service is horrible. I signed a 5-year contract back in 2013, my contract was finally going to be up. I don't use the system at all. I have the alarm system but there are so many teenagers in and out of my house that we never turn it on. The electronic door lock was giving us trouble and one of the cameras stopped working. I called Vivint because they are supposed to replace non-functioning equipment. They sent me a new lock and we had to put it on ourselves. It didn't match up with the holes on the other side. So we could not get all the screws into the lock. So it's a little crooked on the door. They sent us a camera that does not work with our older system. (I spent 2 hours trying to get it to work.) I called customer service to learn they sent me the wrong kind of camera and will be sending an older model for me. They were supposed to include a return label in the box (but they didn't). I gave the box to my husband to take to the pack and ship and he could not send it back. The second camera came in and there was no return label in it either. I call again. They say they are sending me a label. We never get it. Turns out they are e-mailing the label and sending it to the wrong e-mail address (I thought they were mailing it.) because there's a typo in the e-mail address they have. Now, they have withdrawn $550 from my bank account and they won't return it. This is their fault for not including a return label in either box. I called to get the address where to ship it and they won't give me the address. I'm trying to overnight the equipment back to them. I am on the phone for an hour trying to get this address. I talk to 6 different people and finally find out that my contract time is over. Never have I ever been so glad to send my notice of cancelation. read more

My senior father got solar from this company. He had to get his home reroofed so he had to take them off. They charged him 1400 to take off, store and reinstall panels. They took them off and stored them at my dads home. That was at the end of June he has been calling them since mid July to get them reinstalled with no luck. All through prime energy making time. He's been on hold for as long as 3 hours and has been discounted. I emailed them trying to help they called him within 10 mins because they thought it was a quote. These people have much to do to fix their own house security before I trust them again. I am the owner of my system. My name, phone number and email are on the contract. Yet, someone was able to access my account using another user's stolen information and removed me from the account. I can't access my security system or my online account. The CS rep said someone called in and had me removed yet, I called in and they can't put me back on. In addition, what security company doesn't have the capability of deactivating a panel remotely? I am a security manager for several companies and every significant alarm service company has the capability of remote deactivation. Vivint? nope. Can't even suspend service to the panel to prevent unauthorize use. Tech support is non-existent and the CS chatters are even worse. I had these guys before for over 7 years and had no issue. Must be a change in management or, maybe like many other lazy companies, they are using the non-existent but convenient COVID excuse. read more

When I first got the system I had ADT and they agreed to pay off my ADT system if I switched. NEWS FLASH!! THAT WAS A LIE! So I am now stuck paying for two security systems and neither one of them works. Vivint system sucks in every way. The sensors are delayed, the cameras stay off line more than they stay online, if your lights go out the garage sensor will beep for God knows how long. Customer service sucks! Every time you call they want you to reboot, unplug the battery, open the panel...I'm not a tech. I'm already paying for this stuff and now I have to fix it too. Don't waste your time, money, or sanity. Vivint is TERRIBLE. If I could give them a negative rating, I would. I've had them since September 2016 and have had the same issue since October of 2016. I've since had 4 techs (5 including the original installer) out to my home and the issue still remains. Their customer service is atrocious. Their management won't return calls to save your life, even when you're given a time frame for a return call. 2-3 weeks ago, I was told I would have a call back within the week ...still waiting. But this is normal for them. Happens EVERY SINGLE TIME. They must like receiving the angry calls. If you don't heed this warning, and decide to sign up anyway, do not ...and I repeat... DO NOT continue to do so if their phone system is acting up. I think they keep their sales line crappy so you cannot hear what's actually being said. Suckered me into a ridiculously long contract because their phone was echoing and it was extremely difficult to hear. Run! Run away and go somewhere else. You're better off at ADT. We had the Vivint system for 5 years and I am just so happy to finally get rid of this system. We had a variety of door sensors, glass break detectors, doorbell, smoke detector etc and in this short time, most of the components had been replaced at least once due to being faulty. Either they stop working, start reporting errors and causing continuous loud beeps on the panel. They did replace a lot of these coMponents for us, which involved a LOT of time with me on the phone troubleshooting- ("take the battery out for 40 seconds and put it back in" scenario- sound familiar?) but the latest was the doorbell. It stopped working suddenly, and when we tried to replace it, they said the current doorbell is not compatible with our system (only 5 years old!!) and we would have to pay to upgrade the whole system if we wanted it. So the choice was, pay for new system or go without a doorbell. For a newish system and doorbell that we paid good money for, this is unacceptable. We tried to cancel a few times due to this issue and the "customer loyalty" department was always closed when I called. Even in the middle of the day on a Saturday. I realized they were attempting to argue with me about canceling, so I called back (on that same Saturday- supposedly closed), I lied and told them I had moved, and they were able to promptly cancel me. Lol. We are planning to get a nest doorbell and security system instead. Good riddance to you, Vivint! read more

I've been a loyal customer through several moves for several years. Some things have improved, but some things have gotten worse. The door lock hardware has gone from Schlage to Kwikset (more plastic, less metal). My biggest gripe is the thermostat control, which used to be a 7-day schedule, but is now a 5/2 setting. I work from home 2 weekdays, so I have to manually adjust the schedule all day those 2 days. A technician suggested I submit feedback, but there is no means to do so on their site. For anyone signing up as a new customer, please keep in mind that this area of technology is rapidly changing, and the length of their contracts is severely long. Read the fine print when upgrading equipment because it may re-start your contract to day one. read more

Customer support is very inexperienced and lacks the knowledge to resolve any problems presented...Vivint products require lots of attention and are extremely faulty. After multiple equipment failures and replacement and spending hours on hold, Vivint is indifferent and to do anything outside the norm to fix ongoing problems. From what I experienced I would not recommend Vivint to anyone. You will spend most of your time waiting on hold for Customer Service to maintain the system on a daily basis. The average wait time is over 30 minutes and with persistent and faulty equipment failures, you will end up spending most of your time on hold to maintain a system that should run with a very minimal amount of maintenance. read more

Almost immediately we had equipment falling off our doors and walls and trying to get service to correct problems was traumatic. I signed up for Vivint service at everything was fine. I recently purchased a new house and wanted to switch my security system to the new address. The technician came and left hole in door, wires tacked to wall, doorbell wires exposed, and left me to reinstall my doorbell and deadbolt lock. The technician was unprofessional and I even had to pay full price to uninstall the equipment which was partially uninstalled. The equipment was uninstalled and left sitting on my shelf without reinstallation for two months even though the same tech was supposed to uninstall and reinstall the same day at new address. I have continued to pay the monthly service fee without having the service. I've called numerous times to have a technician come out to install the equipment and to date, I have yet to have the security equipment installed at my new home due to numerous cancellations by VIVINT . I've tried to work things out with the customer service reps but was told by a rep named Jeff that "unfortunately bad customer service isn't in the contract." This company has failed to provide adequate customer service to resolve this minor issue that has now escalated into a complaint with BBB. All I wanted was for my service to be continued at my new home and I couldn't even get that done with being given the run around all while still paying for monthly service. This is completely unacceptable and wrong. I was told I can cancel service but would have to pay $3503.93 for the equipment. read more

This company doesn't even deserve the one star. I've had nothing but trouble. We've had for a couple of months and had nothing but trouble every month. We had a horrible experience with the installation. Very sloppy. Had to have 2 other guys come fix what the 1st guy did and it still wasn't fixed. Left holes in the wall that now need repair and paint. The equipment doesn't work properly. The outdoor cameras only pick up went they want to and not actually events that you need recorded. The thermostat just quit working properly and I had to spent many hours on the phone trying to get it fixed, they sent another one and had to spent many hours getting that set up....all this for them to charge me $186 for the equipment that I returned. Had to wait for a refund and still don't have it!! You can never get through to anyone that speaks clear english, they always sound confused like they are reading from a script, and they never have a good phone connection. Wait times are long. I've tried to cancel after a month of service and they told me I would owe for all the equipment and 50% of the contract for the service ($3k). I never had a paper copy of the agreement to read. The fact that I'm paying them ($40+ a month) to not monitor anything and only to have access to their app is RIDCULOUS!!! I'm over this company. read more

Many rating sites show high ratings for Vivint, but lots of these sites are paid for advertising, and therefore make it difficult to post negative reviews. We have had nothing but trouble with our Vivint alarm system since it was installed in September. Technicians have replaced the main panel, the cell chip, the antenna, and the list goes on. In addition, our city requires that alarm systems be registered when installed. After a recent incident, a police department dispatcher told us that Vivint should have registered our system with the city at the time they installed it. They didn't. So, when a false alarm was triggered while my wife and I were home (the panel failed to recognize our disarm code, and the Vivint phone system repeatedly cut us off when we tried to reach the dispatch center), police were dispatched. We then received a $200 fine from the city for having a false alarm on an unregistered system. (There would have been no charge if the system had been registered.) Vivint refuses to take any responsibility, either for the equipment failure, failure of the phone tree at their monitoring center, or for failing to register our system with the police department. (At very least, they should have told us that we'd need to register for ourselves.) In any case, the police department told us that ALL alarm companies are supposed to handle the registration when installing a new system. We've use other alarm companies in previous homes. I've never worked with a company that has so many equipment issues and so little accountability for poor equipment, inadequate phone systems, and failure to insure that new customers are appropriately registered with local police departments. I frankly can't imagine how this company has received any positive reviews at all. read more

If I can give them less than a 1 star, I would. I should have done my due diligence before agreeing to proceed with the installation. Maybe I agreed because Jacob Garner, the sales associate I spoke with, threw me a good sales pitch. The total cost of the equipment, with zero interest financing, was $1299.95. When I received a call from Jacob Roberts, an Inside Sales Advocate, who claimed that he was a supervisor, I made it clear that I will be shopping around but will try their service for 2 weeks and will cancel it if I am not satisfied. He said he will do better than that and give me a 30 day trial and will give me one of the cameras for free, bringing my total cost to $1099.96. Since I am in Southern California and the installation will take place in Northern California, I asked Vivint to email me a copy of the contract for my electronic signature. My sister, who will be present during the installation, will not be signing on my behalf. The installer was supposed to get to the house between 12pm to 4pm. He got there past 4pm. I was reading the contract and was so frustrated at all the discrepancies in the pricing. The contract he asked me to sign has the total equipment price of $1299.95. I told him I was given one of the cameras for free and that he needed to adjust the price accordingly. He made the correction and emailed me the corrected contract. I resumed signing the contract and got to the part wherein I had to agree that I would pay another amount up front, which was once again, different from what I was quoted. I talked to him about that also and he said that once I am finished signing the contract, I will be on a three way phone call with someone else from their office and they will go over everything I signed. If there are any discrepancies or if I disagreed with anything that I signed, they will change it. I was willing to go along with that until I got to the part that states that the total agreement cost for 60 months is $3299.40!!! It should only be $1099.96! Are they crazy?? I immediately decided that all bets are off!! They need to pack up and leave! What a total rip off!! DO NOT GO WITH VIVINT!!!!!! If I could negative stars I would. I have been a loyal customer for 10+ years and since renewing in 2021 I have had nothing but issues and their customer service is the worst. I took time off work to be home to have upgrades done, My appointment had been canceled without my knowledge. The next appointment canceled again. The next appointment the tech called to tell me he didn't the equipment I was getting. So canceled again. The next told me my equipment wasn't compatible. The final one was in a hurry and just threw my stuff up I had to run after I his car for him to connect my panel and finish setting up because I couldn't access anything. They left holes in my house where they had moved stuff and we're lazy about placement. Wouldn't put the cameras where I wanted them. I have had to call multiple times to get my billing fixed. First they did not upgrade my account correctly they had me on month to month not on a contract and we're overcharging me. Got it fixed and they lowered my payment or so I thought. I was confirmed on multiple occasions that my account was current and up to date that there was a mix up and now it's fixed. Then a month later I received notices that my account was extremely passed due along with additional charges that I never had before or was informed that there would be. Now after being confirmed and getting the reps number date and time and she credited my account $25, they still insist that I owe them. When in fact I do not owe any late fees I should have credits. I told them to cancel everything since they are not honoring their word, actions or contract, I'm done and beyond frustrated at having to call every week and be on the phone for over an hour each call. I Said I will send everything back and go back to my old system that I had zero issues with and of course now they tell me I'm passed that point and have to buy out my contract. Or I can pay half of the fees due. I don't know about you but I'm not going to pay half of a bill when I don't owe anything to begin with, especially when I have had nothing but issues with the company and customer service. I just had Vivint installed a few weeks ago, more cameras and security features than most others have installed said both the phone rep and installer. I read all the reviews and complaints from the previous years of aggressive sales, but I knew what I wanted and heard they had the best technology. I decided to try them out knowing what I know and from recommendation from a few trusted friends. (By the way, I had ADT at our last home, good alarm, but not as advanced as Vivint). It was installed a few weeks ago and they gave me more than the three day return policy since there was bad cell service in my area from Verizon, but they would come back and install AT&T setup if so. The installer fully had my back and told me everything I needed, made phone calls for upgrades last minute, plus stayed later to make sure my questions were answered, even though he had a karaoke night with friends that evening. I was the only home he worked on that day since he had so much to install. The phone app works excellent, no problems. I can change temperature upstairs and downstairs from my phone (I have 2 thermostats). I can remote lock/unlock doors, turn on/off lights, set the alarm from my bed or from any place around the world. All my cameras have great visuals all around the home and great night vision with battery backup in case of power failure, recording to the cloud. Besides owning guns, I also have an independent secondary security system with cameras in case vivint decides not to work. So far, I'm more pleased than I thought I would be with vivint, no problems, awesome working system easy to learn, chimes for all doors and windows where I can change the volume and type of sounds for specific entries. The phone rep was kind, the installer went above and beyond, crossed his t's and dotted the i's, and the system works without any flaws. I haven't tripped the alarm off yet to see if they will respond, but I believe there will be no problems. Also I am set for a 42-month contract. I can pay off early and be done with the contract. I'm a happy camper. The reviews I read concerned me a little, but my experience was just the opposite. I see many complaints about people getting mad because they want to get out of contract early. Don't put the blame on Vivint. Take responsibility for your actions and your lack of keeping your end of the contract. They are good, and I'm sure in the past there was some bad business operations and shady sales techniques, but from what I've read and now experienced with the follow up calls and questionnaires, they are making adjustments and improving. 5 stars from this family. read more

I liked what he was selling, but after asking him to go more in depth about the pricing the lies started to come out. He told me a complete lie, so that he could enter into my house, then I told him I will need to think about it, and if he could leave me a business card. He became really aggressive. I recently terminated my service with ADT because it never worked correctly. There were a few companies on my list and Vivint was my second choice after ADT. Before cancelling ADT, I called Vivint to get their prices to provide the same service, same sensors, etc. They gave me a price and it was really good. Terminating ADT took a month. Once ADT was finally out, I called Vivint and told them I'm ready to sign up based on the quote I was provided. They told me they had no record of my price quote, so we started over. I provided the exact same requirements and this time the price was twice as high as what I was originally quoted. I said I want to talk to the person who made the first quote and they said he doesn't work there anymore! I told them I would not sign up with them if they're going to changing their pricing around and not honor the written quote I was just given. They agreed to lower the price somewhat and met me in the middle. The price was still good, so I signed up, but I told them I wanted a 30 day cancellation period instead of 3. They agreed, and thank god for that! First problem was that I had 3 flood sensors left over from ADT. The technician said I couldn't use them and would need to buy new ones from Vivint, but he didn't have any. A week later, a different tech came with the sensors but said the ones I had WOULD work. I decided to buy one new sensor from him anyway, but then Vivint charged me for 2 and I had to fight with them to refund the other one. A week after the system was installed, I had some electrical work done on my house and the power was turned off for a few hours. When the power came back on, the entire system stopped working. I noticed the next day while I was at work and not able to arm, disarm, or view the cameras. I called their tech support and they said they could not fix it remotely, I had to be IN THE HOUSE to reboot the touchscreen! It took hours on the phone with them to get it working right and had to be restarted AND reconfigured with the wifi settings. A week after that, something tripped one of the motion sensors and set off the alarm while we were away. Then, the alarm was disarmed, but nobody in my family disarmed it (we weren't home). The alarm disarmed itself and Vivint can't explain how that could happen. They said I must have done it by accident, but how can a security system be disarmed by accident? One week later, I again had electrical work done on the house and when the power came back on, the cameras again stopped working. I came to learn that if the system looses wifi connectivity, it will try ONE time to reconnect, and if it fails, it will never try again and will stay in a failed state until someone resets it. What kind of security system needs to be constantly rebooted from someone inside the house? What if I had gone on vacation and had a power interruption? After calling their tech support to try to prevent this from happening, they said there is nothing they can do about it except "submit feedback". Where should I begin? I guess I can start by saying that if there was an option for negative stars I would definitely do that without hesitation... I REGRET the day I changed over to VIVINT! I had ADT before, but I made the BIGGEST mistake of switching over and signing a contract with VIVINT... Biggest mistake ever. When we first signed on the company was fairly new, they seemed very promising and the reps who showed up to our home were outstanding... Unfortunately the problems began shortly after. On our fist appointment for installation they sent about 4 reps (very young and inexperienced), it took hours on end for them to finish the job... they made huge holes in my walls, they placed the panel on a wall that really didn't have electrical so they had to drill a hole on the other side of my wall to connect it... They semi-installed their equipment and used what ADT had already placed instead of replacing it all with their equipment, LAZY... At the time It didn't seem like a bad idea but now we are struggling because their system is no longer syncing with ADTs... My system went down about 2 months ago and they have YET TO FIX it! Every call to VIVINT is at least 1 hour and the REPS are idiots, very green and they lack the customer service aspect of their job! They are untrained and lack simple knowledge of their system. They are shorthanded and they don't have enough technicians to deploy, so if you have an emergency you're pretty much screwed! What's the point of having an alarm system if it doesn't work? The irony of having an alarm system and feeling UNSAFE.... PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE! SAVE YOURSELF HEADACHES AND COUNTLESS HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH INCOMPETENT PEOPLE. STICK WITH THE COMPANIES THAT HAVE BEEN AROUND AND THAT HAVE A SOLID REPUTATION. read more
