Don't do it!!! Decided to visit this place based on the yelp reviews. The restaurant was less than half full and our party of 5 was immediately seated. We ordered some tapas, 2 lemon drops, water, 2 servings of seafood paella, and 2 servings of the red shrimp paella. The paella has a note on the menu stating a 30 minute prep time. The water and tapas arrived without much delay, And were very underwhelming for the price. In this area there are many tapas places, that advertise much lower prices. Our party had to repeatedly flag our waitress about the missing drinks, who responded each time that she would get them. She finally brought over 2 empty glasses with ice and a slice of lemon inside. We then tried to attract her attention, to point out that this was not what we ordered, only to watch her repeatedly look away from us. A different server brought us our food, and stated that she would have the drinks removed from the bill. During this time, I had to use the restroom and walked into what looked like a filthy dungeon. Staff was incredibly rude. The hostess and one of the waitresses were giggling and smirking while they spoke about us, assuming we did not understand Spanish just because we were tourists. The waitress with the braces laughed in my face when I asked for a menu! I understand we are not from here but we deserved to be treated with respect. ONE STAR SERVICE REVIEW Horrific experience. I'm from the United States so please factor but also look at my reviews - I'm very business friendly. Hope you don't have any service issues because they are arrogant and confrontational - led by the manager Victor. All this in front of my kids. Food we ate prior was decent but the experience with this server and manager was insane. One was inconsiderate and the manager was arrogant and rude because he knows his restaurant is popular. The indoor seating offers. It's a chic, contemporary setting, for those craving an alfresco experience, there's also the outdoor seating. The DJ spins tunes and on Friday nights a singer walks around taking the atmosphere to a whole new level. As for the food, the dishes we had were delicious, oysters, tenderloin and sea bass carpaccio. The service at Vivo Tapas is great. To top it off, the mixologists at Vivo Tapas are true maestros of their craft. They concocted some of the most creative and refreshing cocktails I've had the pleasure to sip. Started out great. Waitress was sweet. My margarita was great. Appetizers great. Then the shrimp paella arrived. It smelled fishy, like it had passed. I politely sent it back. The waitress was gracious. I never made a mention of it again and was peacefully finishing the other items we had ordered. The host ( manager?) then came back to have a fight (literally) He started to aggressively tell me that the food had been shown to the chef and he said it was great. I informed them that I didn't like it and was happy to pay. He said I was rude to say that and started yelling at me. He told me I had to leave. I was not shown a bill ( very sketchy ). Vivo Tapas Restaurant Coctelería is a modern restaurant in the ritzy Eixemple neighborhood near Passeig de Gràcia and Casa Milà. The chef here starts with Catalan cuisine as a base and then cuts loose with some modern interpretations and riffs. Cannelloni stuffed with duck with bechamel, parmesan and mushrooms: The crepe is rolled into cannelloni and filled with juicy, tender, shredded duck. The cannelloni is covered with luscious bechamel sauce, oyster mushrooms, and parmesan. The octopus is grilled so that it is tender and meaty at the same time. It is served with smooth potatoes and dusted generously with sweet paprika. The calamari is coated with a thin and crispy black squid ink batter. The wasabi mayonnaise is nice and I can actually taste the squid ink, but don't have the words to describe it. The salmon tartare is fresh and flavorful with the wasabi vinaigrette. The garnishes of roe, scallions, and sesame seeds add texture. The crispy nori chips serve as a nice base for the tartare and make a nice bite. read more

Sat outside on the sidewalk for some nice outdoor dining. However, inside was elegant and enjoyable. Also, the live singer was a surprise treat. Enjoyed her voice as she sang many familiar tunes. I also had a glass of Sauvignon blanc which was delicious. Food Paella was ok. I've had better. I ordered the paella for myself. The waitress told me it was meant to feed two people, twice. I was ok with it. My boyfriend ordered a burger. The paella was priced at $23 per person. Once we got the check I was charged $46 when I was the only person that ate it. She said bc it's meant to feed two they charged me for two. That makes zero sense when you have it on the menu priced out PER Person. Just bc it can feed two doesn't mean it did. Using that same logic you could've charged us twice for the burger since I had a bite of his. They need to fix that. To me, it was predatory. The burger was ok and it came with like 15 French fries. Got dinner here on my first night in Barca. Was on the way to the Barca vs FC Chelsea game so I stopped by Vivo to get a quick snack. I showed up wearing a Messi jersey, backwards hat, and a Fanny pack - I stuck out like a sore thumb. However, I try not to take myself too seriously :) The vibe here was super chill and classy. The interior was decked out with this enchanting metallic glow (black and gold) with dimly lit lights. Felt really cozy and romantic. The bar was stocked with all the drinks you could ever wish for. There was also a DJ setup in the back - I really wanted to stay to see how Barca throws down, but I had a futbol game to catch! I ordered some aperol (of course, what else) and some tapas (of course, what else). I also got some kind of crusted pork, which I wasn't a huge fan of, but the tapas were great. This is one of those places that you think to yourself wow that's really expensive, I wonder if it will be worth the money. It was, I somehow wish it wasnt so I wouldnt spend my money here, but it was. I ordered the tomato toast and even that you can tell has the freshest of ingredients despite it being so few. The scallops were super fresh on a cracker. I was surprised how the cracker could hold up so much seafood. It was really small though. The octopus tapa dish had a good amount of octupus. Came here when the cabs were on strike in January 2019. Its walking distance from Passeig de Gracia station. We actually started our night at Old Fashioned BCN and ended up staying a little later than we expected. We had to look for dinner around 11:15pm, ideally on the way back to our hotel. My sister found this place through Google maps and we decided to come here since it was open late and serving food late. Walking in, you're greeted by this beautiful great and purple bar. It has such great modern lounge vibes, but we were starving so we decided to be seated for our extremely late dinner. We had no expectations for this place but this is actually a great place to grab a nice long social dinner and just hang out. So many people were just sitting, snacking but mainly drinking wine and talking. If you're looking to have a classy, fancy-ish night in Barcelona this is a great spot. We were all enjoying our buzz from the previous bar, and it was our mission to try sangria and patatas bravas at every spot we went to. So we ended up ordering: Sangria - delicious, strong, and slightly pricier than other places we went to Buratta - delicious, creamy Patatas brava - had a red sauce and a white cream sauce very creatively placed but not my favorite Canneloni with ricotta cheese - my sister thought this was pasta - still not sure what it was but it was yummy and cheesy but I think I would've preferred to order something else Iberian Jam 1/2 - delicious Bread with tomato - really good and refreshing Huevos estrellados - presentation is 10/10, but the taste is a little disappointing Sirloin dices - this steak was a delicious surprise, it was tender and marinated and really amazing! We each ordered one tapas dish thinking that we could share. We ordered the aforementioned tiny baby scallops and the Seabass and the calamari. Disappointed in the portions. I came here after a long day of touring. The place is beautiful. Stone walls, comfy chairs, and the lighting is very lovey. I got the vibe of a very busy restaurant but there was less than half full. You have the option of appetizers, tapas, or main dishes. I opted for the pork belly and shallots. It's was very good. My table also had the salmon which was even better. I asked questions about the menu and my server gave me wonderful suggestions. My plates were cleared off in a timely manner as well. Now the food. The food was amazing! I ordered the pan con tomate, patatas bravas, and 2 croquettes de jamon. All of them were excellent. The bread for the pan con tomate was perfectly crisp with just the right amount of olive oil and tomato. The potatoes for the patatas bravas were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the aioli and the salsa together were perfect. Finally the croquettes de jamon were creamy and nicely fried to give a crisp exterior. Basically, things that should be crispy were crispy and things that should be soft were soft. Finally the ambiance was lovely. Clean, dim lighting, and a well stocked and arranged bar. Definitely will come back! read more

The restaurant looks great from the outside--warm, lively, and beautifully appointed. But that's really where the positives end. The service was surprisingly unpleasant. We waited about 25 minutes after being seated. No one ever stopped by to take a drink order or do the cursory check for still or sparkling water. We actually had to get up and physically bring a waiter to the table. He petulantly acknowledged that we existed and that it wasn't his section, pointing to a man in a suit 3 feet away who had been chatting at another table for at least 15 minutes (presumably reading the entire menu to those guests). Petulant waiter reluctantly brought us some water. Suited man eventually came over and proceeded to take our orders, aggressively upselling dishes, to the point where our native Spanish speaker had to intervene and walk all the upsells back because they no longer resembled the dishes people actually wanted. Now, we know that meals in Barcelona can take a leisurely pace. However, it's difficult when you feel forgotten at every turn. Worth mentioning: the wine was good and reasonably priced. The food was mediocre at best. The cheese board and tortilla were both well prepared and highlights. Most other dishes were fine, but felt as though they could have easily been from a suburban American tapas restaurant. Overall, my advice to travelers and locals alike is to skip this one. Barcelona is a city filled with thousands of joyful, mouth-watering food memories so you really don't need to waste your time stopping into Vivo. If you're meeting up for drinks, maybe that's harmless enough. But otherwise, keep walking and you'll no doubt find something much more fulfilling. read more
