Stayed here during the weekend of July 4th (~ 2 weeks after opening). The main parking lot, by entrance, has limited availability. Additional spaces are located across the street. I didn't find receptionists welcoming upon entrance - on day #1. When checking-in I'm use to the staff giving you a run-down of all amenities (location of pool, times for pool use, location of restaurant and times, location of elevation ...) which I did not receive. You could tell staff was overwhelmed and unprepared. There are young men stationed by the doors, to open doors for guests, which I found friendly. One assisted my mom and I with our luggage. I mean he removed all items from the trunk, delivered items to the room and placed items throughout the room for us! Housekeeping is not offered daily, a "tidy" service is provided every other day. This was an inconsistency from the website which states "daily housekeeping". Website also states "loaner bikes" are available. I didn't see nor hear of this option as a guest. Only one elevator in hotel, with 8 floors, which is crazy. ROOM / BATHROOM: The rooms look just as pictured. Very spacious, for all the girlies that over pack! However, the bathroom is tiny ... The water pressure in the shower is out of this world. Felt like someone took a pressure washer to my body - literally had to cover my nips as it hurt. A mini fridge is available in the room but no microwave. Towels and wash cloths were large and of nice quality. Could tell they were still new! Bed was very comfortable and firm. Nice modern furniture and smartTV. Was able to cast my shows (Netflix, Paramount ...) from my phone. Shower contains shampoo, conditioner and bodywash. Liquid hand soap and lotion is available as well. Nice, subtle scent - but the lotion is not hydrating. Balcony is pretty simple. Two chairs and a small table. POOL / BEACH: The direct beach access was wonderful. Pool area is small. Floats are provided for the small lazy river. The Shelby Beach Club (pool side bar) was still under construction. I asked an attendant about the bar and they said it was a delay from the city with permits ... I mean, you could still see the electrical wires hanging. RESTAURANT - The Palm & Pebble: The day I checked in, 3 July, I was told the restaurant was scheduled to open 4th July with a limited menu/bagged lunch. Specifically asked if they would be open for breakfast at 7 AM and staff confirmed they would. My mom and I walked over at 7:30 AM for breakfast ... lights were off and doors were locked. Went back to the front desk and inquired when restaurant would open. Was told "maybe in 30 minutes". Didn't bother with the restaurant for the remainder of my stay due to the inconsistencies. Walked to Lulu's Cafe & PaPa's Restaurant to enjoy breakfast instead. LOCATION: Not far from certain tourist attractions (boardwalk ~ 5 min drive) on Ocean Blvd. OVERALL: For the rate per night, it was disappointing that certain amenities (bar by pool, restaurant etc.) were still under construction/not available. A notice to guests prior to arrival would have been nice. The fact their rating (on google) is 2 out of 5 starts, as they just opened, SPEAKS VOLUMES!! They should have just delayed opening until they worked out all of the kinks to provide guests with a complete PROPER experience. This hotel has potential! I honestly feel once they get it together, this will be a nice hotel to visit.

The false TripAdvisor listing a fitness center the Shelby does not have.

I was honestly excited about staying at The Shelby. The hotel looked nice online, and the location seemed perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed the beach, however, the hotel experience is one of the worst I have ever had. Firstly, the hotel advertises a fitness center, you can see it on TripAdvisor. (I also attached a screenshot from TripAdvisor), but when I asked where the gym was at, the receptionist just kind of shrugged it off, said they didn't have one, and she said it was an old listing. An old listing? For a hotel that's only been open a month? Their poolside bar they advertise also had not officially opened when we stayed. The receptionist said something about still working on getting a license or a permit. My brother's family and I were on a family vacation, and we had separate rooms. He booked an oceanfront one. When he checked in, they said the oceanfront towers were not open to the public yet, but they still sold him an oceanfront room he couldn't stay in. Basically, they're selling rooms that aren't even open yet. My wife and I's room also didn't have power in the main bed area until 30 minutes before we checked out. They told us that they would get it fixed day one, but they didn't fix it until we were packing our bags up to check out the next morning, and yet they acted like they did us a huge favor fixing it. At the end of our stay, my brother decided to pay for my family's room. This was an awesome and thoughtful gift. But then my credit card was charged for the same room. I asked the front desk about it, and the lady told me that a refund had already been submitted. A few days later, another person told me they never charged my card at all, even though I literally had the charge right there in my bank account staring me in the face. I sent emails, screenshots, receipts, folios, absolutely everything. The hotel manager got involved, but instead of helping, he didn't seem like he knew what was going on. For example, he asked if my brother and I stayed in the same room (??). No, we had separate reservations, how does the hotel manager not see that? Does he even know what is happening at his own hotel? They gave me a checkout receipt showing only the $25 resort fee, but they still charged me $307. My brother and I are still working the issue trying to figure out the breakdown in communication and payment. I am not accusing the Shelby of any wrongdoing. Maybe they're just really disorganized and have communication issues. There are several issues present that they need to fix. I wouldn't stay here again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The Shelby in Myrtle beach was a lovely stay for my family and I!! We arrived early and the staff was welcoming and friendly. They were able to accommodate an early check in for us! Our room faced the ocean with a panoramic view of the pool and ocean. The room was nicely decorated and the AC worked GREAT!! I had to wear a jacket in the room because my husband likes to keep it at 68!! The pool area gave a very clean and cute boutique vibe! They had plenty of lounge chairs, day beds, umbrellas for shades, towels, and they even provided rafts to float on in the lazy river. The pool temp was perfect! The lazy river was so much fun for the kids and I'm not gonna lie, my husband and I laid in there for hours every day. The pool area is full sun until about 3pm the sun sets behind the hotel and you get a break in some shade! The pool service was going on all day because the pool bar was not complete yet. They were short staff but honestly it was hot outside and I could tell everyone was working very hard and was very attentive to anyone who wanted or needed anything. We tried the Caesar salad, coconut shrimp, fries, blackened chicken sandwich, onion rings, hummus platter, spicy chicken sandwich, and the chicken fingers! It was all very delicious, served hot and fresh we loved it. I enjoyed Pina coladas and a drink called the basil something. I can't remember what it was called but it was very refreshing! My husband enjoyed the dirty Myrtle beer sold in a can. The highlight of the trip was the ocean front beach access outside of the hotel with walking distance to the boardwalk. When you walk out of the pool gate you take about 20 steps and you are on the sand walking towards the ocean. The ocean was soooo warm I couldn't believe it. Stunning colors as well! When I posted a picture of the water I had people ask me if I was in Cancun! LOL there are lots of shells on the beach and room to walk up and down the beach. Life guards on the beach which is also comforting as it was a little stormy. There were showers on both sides before coming back to the pool to get all the sand off. I found it extremely convenient to be able to have our room/pool/beach all a few steps away from each other. With small kids we had to go up to the room for naps and snack breaks etc so the fact it was convenient is a plus for me. One day it was raining a lot so we took a 7 minute drive to go to the aquarium! The boys loved it and there was a lot of shopping and restaurants in the marina in that area. This hotel is 5 minutes walking distance to the main attractions on the boardwalk. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a fun affordable family vacation in a great location. If you like discovering hidden gems before they blow up--this is one of them. Can't wait to come back next summer and see the glow-up once it's fully finished!

We ended up loving it so much that we decided to extend our stay for an extra night. The location was honestly perfect. There was a Walmart nearby, the boardwalk and boardwalk mall were close, and there were plenty of restaurants within a short distance. The beach access was in a great spot, and the entire area felt very clean and safe. The outside pool area was modern, well maintained, and very inviting. The breakfast advertised in the lobby definitely lived up to expectations. Every morning there was a fresh breakfast along with a fun waffle-making station, which we really enjoyed. The staff throughout the hotel were extremely friendly and welcoming. There was also a restaurant on the main floor with a great atmosphere, and the food was very good. There were only two downsides during our stay. The kids' splash pad -- one of the main reasons we booked this hotel -- was unfortunately out of service the entire time due to needing a new pump. We understood that these things happen. The other issue was that the rugs in the room did not seem very clean. We ended up keeping our shoes on in the room, so it wasn't a huge issue for us personally. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely book this hotel again

The hotel staff were friendly and professional throughout my stay. There was also a gentleman working during breakfast on Sunday morning (I didn't catch his name) who was especially helpful and attentive. He had on a red shirt and long hair. Service like that truly makes a difference. That said, there were a couple of downsides. My oceanfront room had a noticeable wet dog smell, which was disappointing. Also, the $25 per night parking fee feels excessive. I've chosen to stay at this property for quick beach trips over the last 10 years, and unfortunately, the parking situation alone will likely keep me from returning. I also want to note that the hotel is currently under renovations (it is the off-season), so that's something to keep in mind when booking. While I'm not disappointed in the staff at all they were amazing the added costs and room issue were enough to make me reconsider staying here again.

Check in was a breeze. Staff was super friendly. This hotel is located in a great spot...within walking distance to lots of eateries and direct access to the beach. All of the rooms have ocean views. Initially I thought the bed position was weird but I quickly appreciated waking up to views of the beach and ocean. Everything was clean and well appointed in our king room. My only complaint is that the towels were pretty bad and extremely thin, more so than any other hotel I've visited. We went to the bar on the second floor to people watch. It's a cute spot and has access to outdoor seating with a view and fire pits. Our drinks were just "ok"...I've never had ice in a French 75 and my husband's old fashioned was made with crushed ice and not a ball or large cube which was odd. There is ample parking in the deck across the street. Overall, a nice stay!

My friend and I arrived at approximately 8:30 p.m., while the restaurant's posted closing time was 9:00 p.m. We were given menus from the bar, our table was cleaned, and we were seated. Based on these actions, we reasonably believed we would be served. After waiting for about 20 minutes without anyone greeting us or taking our order, my friend went to the bar to place our order. We were then told they were no longer accepting food orders. At no point did anyone inform us that the kitchen had stopped taking orders or that we needed to order immediately upon arrival. To make matters worse, we observed other customers placing food orders after we had already been seated and waiting. If the kitchen stops taking orders before the restaurant closes, that policy should be clearly communicated to guests upon arrival. Instead, we were left sitting and waiting with no communication, only to be told we could not order after losing valuable time. This experience was disappointing and reflected poor customer service. I hope this matter is reviewed and that staff receive additional training on communicating with guests so others do not have the same experience.
