My husband and I were in Petoskey on a road trip that was finishing up with a wedding in Chicago. We were in need of hairstyles which we didn't have time to do before we left home. We were lucky enough to find Vogue Salon and specifically Rachel and Katie. They were so sweet and most importantly provided great service. We were looking fabulous when we walked out the door and the best news is, they continue, 10 days later, to be perfect. We sure wish we lived anywhere in the state of Michigan because we would drive to get our haircuts with them. I was very nervous about using someone else but Megan was my stylist and she was absolutely wonderful. I have a hair loss condition and she was so kind and understanding. While I do feel awful for leaving a negative review as I had thoroughly enjoyed the staff there (stylists, assistant-stylist, and service desk in whole) and the environment of the space. Not satisfied with the hair transformation. Dissatisfied with my charge & the communication of the upcharges provided as I had not been informed of these upcharges until afterwards. Four hour service Asked for an ashy brown ombré / Full Foil Shoulder length / thick hair Total $210 * +tip nearly $250 in total For starters, the stylist Riley did a GREAT job. Riley & Hannah we're both incredible, very friendly, great customer service, exceptional work. Not necessarily what I had originally asked for as shown in the photos below you can note what I had asked for versus what I had received. If I had decided to come in for color correction only I would have been possibly satisfied as I came in with a yellow band from a previous dye on my hair but for what was provided for the amount of time taken (4HRS) to what I had asked for I cannot say that I was be very satisfied. Now as for price I asked for an itemized list Starting price with Riley $150 Toner charge $30 Extra color charge $30 Starting price listed on their website was $85 $90 $95 $100 as shown. Assuming that is based off your length and thickness of your hair as well as the starting color which I'd imagine my hair wouldn't necessarily be a hassle to deal with. Being said that, I am rather concerned for the fact that that the starting price listed on the receipt was nearly $50 more than I had expected to pay; that said, after consulting with the service desk they had informed me that it was due to xtra toner, color, color correction and additional time (originally suppose to be 3HRS) even when I had ALREADY been charged for additional toner & color below being the additional $30 for toner and $30 for extra color (which seems like a lot for one bowl). That said, I was not informed about the additional charge for toner & extra color. If I had received exactly what was on the photo shown I would have had a rather different response. I feel it'd be appropriate to say that it is the stylists responsibility to have a thorough consultation before proceeding. I wish there was a bit more transparency about pricing. I've also been informed by a friend who is a cosmetologist that toning is part of the coloring process which makes me quite disappointed to see it be used as an upcharge. That said whether or not it is or isn't, considering the site says that toning requires additional charges I was still not informed of the price difference. I would like to come here again but unless it will be as much as listed on the website unfortunately I don't believe I will be coming back anytime soon. I am FULLY aware that the price listed in the site is not the final price but I had not intended to come in for an additional +$100 charge on top of tip. Especially considering I had not necessarily received what was hoped for. Ultimately, I AM satisfied with my hair being it's color was corrected but not nearly for the price neither what was asked. I would have liked a consultation of roughly how much you will need to use above the base amount, and then i could have been quoted a new price. That way we'd at the very least be on the same page and know why the service is costing more than what is listed, and my wallet wouldn't have been hurting nearly as much. Final thoughts. I had a spa pedicure this am in the lower level of their building.. the person who did my spa pedicure mentioned she was an apprentice.. which meant she was an apprentice on hair but not on nails. because she already completed the apprenticeship on nails..as the owner told me.. she did a quick file on my toenails then a quick file on my heels.. she put a lotion on followed by 2 towels and rinsed this off and massaged each leg for less than a minute. No cuticle work.. no cleaning of the nails and no removal of any dead skin.. she put on two base coats and 2 coats of polish but no top coat.. I used Dazzle polish which was $10 more and dries very fast.. I did talk to the owner and she offered to refund by credit card but that wasn't the point.. not worth your time nor money.. read more

I was on vacation in the area for a week during the summer and was in a wedding the day I was returning home. So, I had to somewhere for a mani/pedi in the Petosky area. Although I saw a few nail salons, they were all similar price as Vogue so I figured I would book at salon (Aveda) since it looked really nice for the same price. I really liked the look of the place and the technician was really nice and the service was very relaxing which was great. Since the wedding was still a few days away, I decided to get my first no chip to ensure they were in good shape for the wedding. Although the nails made it two days until the wedding, they started chipping about 5 days later! I have always been told that they last at least 2 weeks and most of the time 3. So, this was a huge disappointment. Three of my toe nails also was ruined about 5-6 days later; my toes usually stay fine weeks or more without having to reapply. The toe nail polish came off like it was a sticker applied, so entire piece of polish on three toes came off. The scrubs, etc that were used during the pedicure were great, and my feet felt awesome after. But the polish was just a big appointment for both nails and feet. I would definitely just stick to the non-nail services in this salon. read more

I visit Petoskey during the summers and found this salon a few summers ago. I love Aveda products and stylists and search only for those salons. My appointments are with Kaleigh and she is a gem of a talented stylist with an amazing personality. My two teenage boys will go to anyone with availability on short notice and have never been disappointed. They both rave about the cuts and head massages so much that Papa now goes to Vogue too. Papa loves the pampering and looks forward to the herbal tea, conversation and massage. My 21 year old daughter came for a visit with badly bleached hair and Kyle fixed it back to a brown with dimension and it looked natural leaving my daughter feeling gorgeous again! All of the stylists at Vogue are blessed with wonderful personalities, talent for their trade and they listen to the client in the chair! Vogue is at a new location now which is just a block away from their old space. Parking is much easier although you need to be certain to have quarters for meters and the building is gorgeous and open. Without reserve I recommend Vogue and its stylists to seasonal visitors such as myself and residents of the area. A good salon is more necessary than a good mechanic shop! read more

This review is only for the pedicures and the management staff. Summary: good technicians, poor management, horrible customer service. My friend and I booked "signature" pedicures together. The two nail technicians who performed the pedicures were very friendly, knowledgeable, and adept. However, after my pedicure ended 30 minutes before my friend's, we quickly realized that while my friend was receiving the "signature" pedicure, I had only gotten the "express" pedicure. When I politely pointed out that I had not received the service that had been pre-paid for, the hostess said she would give me a free upgrade on my next pedicure. I explained politely that I didn't think that was fair, since I had pre-paid for the signature service and would have to pay AGAIN for a different pedicure before receiving the upgrade. The hostess became very rude and said, sarcastically, "so you think you should get a free pedicure?". She then said she would speak to the owner. I was surprised that the owner never apologized for the mistake; in fact, she was quite rude. When I told her why I didn't think it would be fair for me to have to pay for ANOTHER service before they corrected the mistake, she treated me like I was just trying to run a scam. If I hadn't pointed out that I didn't receive the service I had already paid for, they would have charged me for it anyway. I won't return to this salon, but not because they made an error. Any business can make a mistake, and I don't mind. But when they make a mistake, refuse to apologize, and treat me rudely, I feel others should know. Update after business response to my review: While I disagree that 20% off is a "heavy discount" after a business makes an error at a customer's expense, I suppose reasonable people may differ on this point. The purpose behind writing the review was to let customers know how disrespectful and rude the hostess and owner were. As I wrote in the review, every business makes mistakes. When the mistakes are handled in an unprofessional manner and the staff are rude, that is poor customer service. I simply can't recommend this business for that reason. read more

Their new salon is very nice, but my nail experience was very strange. The other day I got an manicure and they did no work on pushing my my cuticles or cleaning up the edges around the nail. The nail polish (gel) is extremely streaky and transparent, even after 2 or 3 coats (and even after me speaking up and telling her it looked that way). Upon looking at the even more- they didn't even paint part of my nail. If I am paying $35 which is at least $5-7 more than the average gel manicure, I would expect even application and for them to clean up my nails. Won't be back for another manicure. read more

Okay, so here's what happened: to preface this, I know after reading any other negative comment, the management from Vogue will respond with excuses. I went in at the end of April for a trim and a root bump. However, my stylist, who I adore as a person, talked me into a 'root shadow' and fixing the brassyness on my ends, totally fine with me! She also gave me a cut. Well the next day I came back because the cut she gave me was uneven and blunt as could be, so we had to blend it. I just wanted to blend the ends, however what I got were DRASTIC layers from my just below my eye line to my shoulder length, thick, straight, heavy hair. So, at the salon I was like okay looks alright. Well a day or 2 later I came back in because I looked like Farrah Faucet or like I had a mullet. The layers created too much texture and it went in every direction and the hair at the bottom was paper thin now. I tried to straighten it, curl it, round brush it, even had to spend MORE money and buy a bigger curling iron. Nothing has worked besides a bun. So, I spent $150 (plus 20% tip) on my hair that I have now cried over multiple times. I went back, talked to my stylist, she apologized, said there's nothing we can do but let it grow. I left, and ended up calling again and speaking with a manager, who decided to refund the cut. Which I was okay with, so I got like $38 dollars back. so now, it's been almost a month, and I've had to continue to wear my hair in a bun because truly, there is nothing int he world that will make it look good, people have actually made comments about the cut when I show them... so I called and said ya know what, I can't even enjoy the color (remember again, I spent a total of $180 - $38 refund). The color is already changing and I've had to wear it in a stupid bun for weeks. As someone who jus loves their hair (enough to spend $180 on it) this is heart breaking and embarrassing. manager said that she 'tried' to work with me, had offered to have someone else look at my hair, which she absolutely did. However, how in the WORLD would you fix a cut with layers so high? there's no way besides chopping it off. The hair I'd told my stylist I was growing out. No way I'm letting ANYONE with scissors near it! manager said she would not refund my color, I get it's been a few weeks, but understand that I've had to wear my hair in a bun, I've not enjoyed the color and it's already changing. She said she tried to work with me, and that she'd refunded the cut which was the initial problem, I just heard excuses. I was a loyal customer, I've recommended a few of my girlfriends to the salon as well as my husband, and I'll be sure to tell them of the poor customer service after such an absolute BOTCHED job was done. I've had bad hair cuts, but not like this, this is a complete and utter joke to have to walk around with. I wanted my full service refunded, and as someone who does not complain, its a lot to even ask for such a thing, I understand how much work goes into the entire process, but have some customer service. If I've called you now 8 times, CLEARLY i'm upset and special circumstances should be made. My argument seems pretty solid, how can I even enjoy any part of this cut while its in a bun. So I spent $150 to be forced to wear my hair in a bun, then going to have to spend MORE to get it fixed once it grows out? My stylist knew I wanted to keep it under a certain price point, and she went above that, and I didn't complain. But now, with what I'm going to have to do to fix it, the money I spent at your salon, and the fact I had to go buy new tools to try and style this absolute mess is beyond me. You should be ashamed at the way you've chosen to handle this situation. I'm sure you'll rebuttal with excuses that you tried to help me. but the bottom line is, and what I think you're not understanding, is there is no fixing this cut. I'm not a professional, but the layers as high and many as there are, you'd have to chop half my hair off. A refund in this case would have been the only appropriate response. read more

Don't bring your bridal party here! We came with 2 waves of 7 ladies to get mani/pedis at Vogue. The staff was very nice and the shop was very clean and organized, but if they are doing more than 3 people at a time, someone is getting the 4th string nail tech. That was unfortunately me in this case... I got just a normal pedicure and had my toes in the fresh air all afternoon, but they must not have put the hardener on it, because as soon as I put boots on for dinner (6+ hours after my pedi) both big toes smudged really badly.. My manicure was gel/shellac, and my tech had such shaky hands, there was gel all over my skin by the end. She tried to wipe it with a q-tip, but in the end said it would wash off in a few days.. (awesome, when the wedding is the following day).. I also had about twice as much gel on my right hand as i did on my left and it was All over my skin. I went home and filed off half of the gel that was running off my fingernails when I left the salon.. It was my error not to say something while I was there, but didn't want to ruin the good time the bridal party was having. This mani/pedi was in NO WAY worth the $100+ I paid for it. Vogue is by far the BEST salon and spa in Petoskey! When you walk in you have such a warm and welcome vibe. The aroma of aveda is soothing and puts you in a peaceful state of mind. Having a full service salon and spa right downtown petoskey that treats you like family is a beautiful thing. Gabby is an incredible massage therapist who really knows what she's doing. I appreciate when a therapist can really connect and communicate during a treatment. Pressure is always spot on especially because I love deep tissue.
