I firmly believe that in terms of vocal teachers in a Orange County, Jennylyn Chung is as good as voice teachers get. Her traditional Bel Canto style of singing is especially what makes her studio so fantastic for every style of singer. I started taking lessons from Jennylyn because I had talked to one of her students, who recommended that I try a lesson with her. The voice teacher I had before Jennylyn had me straining and belting, which hurt in the process and eventually did negative things to my voice. For so long, I was under the impression that singing was work and that this wear-and-tear I was experiencing would eventually iron itself out, which is what my teacher seemed to think. She didn't seem to take my concerns seriously and brushed them under a rug. Right off the bat, Jennylyn started helping me rebuild my technique. Unfortunately, I had to start from square one again because everything I knew was strained. Since then, Jennylyn has helped me take almost all of the tension out of my voice and replaced it with comfortability, ease, and confidence. I cannot say that I've quite arrived in the time that I've been taking lessons from her, but I know that with every day that passes, I'm getting closer and closer to my goal. I'd recommend Jennylyn to anyone and everyone who is serious about learning to sing well. Don't waste your money with teachers that teach at a university and claim to be an amazing teacher by backing their argument up with their degrees. Jennylyn does have a Masters in vocal performance (if I remember correctly) from Cal Baptist University, but her experience in the real world, having been with countless misguided teachers, is was really makes her the most competent voice teacher in Orange County. Jenny's extensive experience with many types of teachers and teaching styles gives her a clear picture of what vocal students often go through. She knows a damaged voice when she sees one and she can help fix and repair it. Even for those without damaged voices, Jennylyn knows how to lay the foundations down so that you can reach your full potential, no matter where you've come from in the time that you've been singing. First time around, I was confused. Wait, we start from bottom of range and build up to a higher…read morerange? I was used to being told by my previous teacher that I needed to start from middle of range and vocalize to the top to build on the lower range. What I did not realize is that her purpose is to get all of her students to sing relaxed with a neutral larynx position at a quiet volume and build up to a large sound once the vocal chords can relax from bottom to top without stretching the chords. The key is a gentle and natural zipping of the chords that occurs naturally when we speak correctly, however with a background of vocal strain some gentle vocalizing is required to build strength in the vocal chords so that you have one, unified voice and not two or three distinct voices. The whole process might seem unusual and unlike other teacher's you have studied from, but I assure you, she has spoken the most sense to me than any teacher I have ever had and I have had several at the university and throughout the seemingly professional community of south and north orange county. I am appalled that there are not more quality and caring and gifted teachers like Jennylyn. She is not only great at breaking down things in an easy-to-understand way, but she is a kind and giving person who will truly support hard-working and driven individuals. She will encourage you and challenge you and she will help you reach your goals, be that becoming a better singer for fun or a professional career.

I did my homework hunting for the course that I felt would help me grow and be competitive with the other vocal coaches in the area. Although a bit pricey, I went for it. It was money worth spent. I am so confident in my skills. I feel I can navigate any vocal challenge with my students. I am on a waitlist and am seeing phenomenal progress in my students!! I am a huge fan of Justin. Be sure to take advantage of your lesson with Justin as part of the course offering. I learned a lot and he helped me with a voice student. It was really cool.

Had a voice lesson with Julie like 2 weeks ago and it didn't go well. I really felt unwanted there…read more Didn't learn anything. After doing some warm up exercises she told me I have to take lessons with a male coach because she can not show me the technique since she has a soprano voice. I was really sad and encouraged after that. Also, I expected, and it would be fair, if they offered me as a replacement another class with a male coach since Julie wasn't able to teach me the technique....but nobody contacted me - really sad and disappointed.

I have since shifted focus…read morefrom acting to art full time, but I started the Meisner beginner course this past January, and it was the best decision I've ever made. I had a fellow artist friend highly recommend the program and James Price. The class really opened me up, and is good not just for actors, but those trying to get better with improvisation and public speaking, or even learn to stop caring what others think and just live as you. After I finished the beginner class I was invited back to be on the conservatory track. I took two other courses, Voice and Singing, both led by great teachers as well. Oh, and every class I took was more than reasonably priced. I 1000% would be continuing if I had the time to focus on acting at the moment. They also have acting labs that are open to all students several times a month. I never once saw any teacher behave unprofessionally. The big problem with the dramatic arts is there tends to be a lot of narcissists that end up in the field. These types usually make the class about themselves, and their teachers just an obstacle to their inevitable success for which they are willing to put in none of the effort or work. These are the types that seem to have an issue with James, and post for the world to see. We had just one person drop a class I was in, the Meisner intro (it wasn't their idea of what an acting class should be--did you research even an iota?) and they were easily the laziest in the group, skipping out on all the required between-class work (which will help you so much!). To those looking to dip their toes into acting, or novice actors looking to level up their skills, I would highly recommend checking out The Acting Studio. Really easy location by Penn Station and Herald Square. If you come ready to do all the work and then some, you're gonna have an amazing time. If you're not willing to leave your ego at the door for a minute, you'll probably end up here writing a bad review.

I must say that I didn't do my review research ahead of time but it probably wouldn't have changed my mind because the negative reviews that I found on The Acting Studio and James Price in particular are hidden or have been removed. I found out by word of mouth after being insulted more than once by James in class for no apparent reason. I'll be honest and detailed Our class on Fridays which is taught by James is supposed to end at 10pm. He goes well over sometimes close to midnight with no regard for our personal lives. If you say that you have to go early, which is really on time, he insulted you by saying that everyone has things to do. Most of the class is filled with his stories of his past roommates or his rants and fights with his young husband Aong who is from Thailand. James makes assumptions about you based on your looks and ethnicity. Facts: He called me a BITCH in class because I stood up for myself after begin belittled for asking a question. He apologized to me later in front of the class and with only a month to go until our last class... he once again belittled me for asking if I could ask a question. His response was: No you can't. You are always disrupting the flow of class. Even if this was true... should this have been told to me in front of class? A good teacher explains things the first time so that the students don't always have to ask what do you mean by that? To add insult to injury, he has a young male student from Italy who told me to get over it and then proceeded to jump on James' bandwagon. James has made reference to me having a hard life without even knowing my background. I could go on but let's just say that his class isn't for an intelligent, WOKE, AA woman. He's a coward and he needs an audience to showcase his off the wall behavior which can change from crying to laughing to yelling to belittling in a second. I question his mental state. No one in class is ever sure of what our assignments for the next class are. Everyone is afraid to go first because no one is ever clear on his directions. The class doesn't have to be 9 months. We do the same thing over and over each week which drags the class out and I suspect for money. Take your money and go elsewhere.

She's also very supportive and creates a really great, positive environment for her singing students. She has a lot of techniques she gives in the lessons on breathing and how to make your mouth and your throat open. Vicki also really cares about her students! These singing lessons are the highlight of my week, honestly. So if you're looking for a vocal coach, Vicki is a really amazing singing teacher - highly recommend!

I just took my first salsa class here at Dance on 2. I did the Beginner 1 combo. Can I please say I…read moreloved it?! I'm a person who usually can't dance, don't dance, and have two left feet. First, the class is divided by gender, Jai Catalano taught the guys and Dayana Martinez led the girls. We learn the basics, footwork, turning, and so forth. Then after a five minute break, we partnered up. I was so nervous about partnering with someone, because I kept on messing up on my footwork in the beginning of the class. I absolutely did not have confidence in myself. I thought " Great! First class, already fallen behind. If I can't keep up with the basics then how can I dance with another person?" I went up to Jai and Dayana about it. They told me it was normal to feel this way, and that there were a few other first timers there as well. Most of the people in the class have been attending for a few weeks now, but they started out the same way. They both believed I could do it. There is such a huge difference between copying what the instructor is doing vs. dancing with a partner and having someone lead you. This review might sound naive, but it's because I've never had to dance with anyone before. What I really appreciated was that when I was having a difficulty with something or they noticed a wrong footing, they were quick to teach me side by side. I also loved how by dancing with someone, we were learning from each other and getting it through together. After an hour into the class, subconsciously it was like my feet knew what to do next. I wasn't looking down anymore, but actually looking at my partners' faces. One of them was even surprised to find out this was my first time! Under Jai and Dayana's guidance and instructions, we even got a little intricate too with all these turn patterns, and we were all getting better and better with each repetition. I totally recommend learning how to salsa at Dance on 2. It was such a comfortable atmosphere based on learning and having fun. Can't wait to go next week!

Here she teaches, along with her dance co-instructors, salsa including shines, partnerwork and advance styling, etc... She runs a number of classes at different levels starting at absolute beginner up to very advanced so there is definitely something you can get out of one of her classes. You'd be surprised how much you can accomplish in one hour as I've seen plenty of two-left feet beginners come in and leave after a class with confidence and a few good moves for the dance floor. Be aware though that these classes are challenging and that you should be reasonably fit, at least fit enough to do an hour long aerobics class. Plus, bring a bottle of water and a notebook because you'll cover so many different moves and combinations that you're bound to forget a few things. So, if you've ever watched someone salsa and thought to yourself that you would really love to do that then come take a class with Melanie, its not expensive, nobody is judgmental and you'd be surprised to see what you can learn in a short period of time.
