I live in the area, and drove past the museum for years. My first trip was last year and it was awesome. Such a wide variety of cars, my favorite would be the Disney showroom and the movie cars. They have car shows in the summer which are also worth attending. The place gets very busy on weekends so I prefer to go during the week. read more

If you love cars, this is the mecca for car lovers! Volo Auto Museum is fun for the whole family. We went during the super hero day.. so they had some dudes dressed up like Captain America and some other characters. The place was packed with people and kids. It looked like the kids were having more fun than the parents.. at least that day. Every other time I have gone it was full of car enthusiasts. They have a bunch of different buildings filled with themed vehicles like Hollywood cars, muscle cars, older classics. There is section with just old snowmobiles and another with tractors. The two displays that I really enjoyed were the military vehicles and artifacts and the Dusenburg (sp?) room. Those cars are so beautiful.. literal works of art. For a fun half day where you can get some exercise walking and see some cool cars... I definitely recommend Volo Auto Museum. read more

They and the Owner were on South Beach Classics , selling Ted of SBC a Very Expensive Car and they did a Tractor Race too .. And if want too? Head Just up accross the Wi Border in the town of Walworth to see Meecums New Headquarters facilty, its awesome as well , then after a few hrs there/ head over a few miles to Fontana, and Go to CHUCKS Pub and Grub. on Lake Geneva. ! read more

Needless to say... if cars aren't really your thing, this may not be the place for you. However, here are the reasons I like it: In addition to the cool cars, it also brings a bit of history. There are also several famous cars there from movies and TV. The kids will enjoy seeing them and you might get a little nostalgic. There are five separate buildings to go through. Most vehicles are indoors, but there are some outside. There is also an old fashioned little diner and an antiques mall on premise. read more

My daughter hates car museums. They loved this. Just reading the price tags and fantasizing driving them home was pure entertainment. The antique mall fascinated my daughter. And the cars change month by month. It's a total hoot. We even liked the military building. The snack bar is way better than you'd expect. Homegrown and homespun and fun. Not sanitized and cookie cutter. The whitest and crabbiest people on earth seem to always visit this place (the McHenry area has the market cornered on rudeness), but it's way too much fun. read more

Volo auto sales review: Do NOT buy a car from Volo auto sales. I bought the car out-of-state. Its one thing to buy from a private owner and trust the condition of a 48 year old car. But a big reason to buy from a dealer is they claimed to thoroughly inspect the car before it shipped. I understand that contractually the car was sold "as is" to protect the seller, but they either (a) failed to report serious problems or (b) did a terrible inspection before delivery. Again, they claimed to have taken a few days to thoroughly inspect the car (which is why the shipping was delayed). They changed cheap items like replacing the windshield wipers. As of right now I have paid for over $4,800 in repairs. Following has a list of immediate problems as soon as I took ownership. - The car had a major oil leak (valve covers). I say major because the oil was dripping right down onto the exhaust pipe which is a fire hazard. - The rear disk brakes were not working properly and had to be repaired - The positive battery terminal end was broken and partially hanging off - The pinion seal in the differential was leaking - Gear box needed to be replaced - Power steering pump was leaking - Both front break lines were torn bad when I received the car so they were replaced. Within two months the break lines broke (while driving). As it turns out, the mounts for the front brake hose were placed incorrectly right next to the brake calipers. So when the wheels turn, it presses against the brake hose causing it to tear within a short time. I was driving the car with my 7 year old daughter when they went out. - There was a lot of rattling underneath the car when I received it. The two causes, which I had to get repaired,were (a) the driver side engine mount was broken so the engine shook an incredible amount (b) the exhaust was installed very poorly. Parts of the pipes were hitting against the body of the car as well as the drive shaft. Hitting against the drive shaft caused another problem. Over about two months time it pulled on the header bolts, which caused the headers to leak. This was another repair. There is always a risk of a mechanic over stating repairs, so let me address this. (a) My dad was a part time mechanic so I've been around cars all my life (b) the mechanic is a family friend (c) I personally inspected every repair that was needed before he touched the car and I have pictures to document everything I listed. When I communicated the problems to the sales guy Joey he was incredibly rude and reminded me that the car was sold as is. I then located contact information for one of the owners Jay Grimes. Jay were a bit more tactful, but blew me off as not being experienced in buying old cars. Again, they did not tell me that the car has not been looked at by their shop. If this was the case, I would have hired a local mechanic to inspect the car. But, I was told that the car was reviewed prior to the sale. They claim to be experts. It's not like I bought the car directly from an owner. read more

Odd to find a museum selling cars but why argue with a good time? You'll never see a bigger variety of classic cars and if you're up to it, go ahead and buy one. A great, and varied museum. They have cars ranging from old to new, and sleek to wacky. This is in additon to the various vehicles used in movies, and the incredible Duesenberg room. After living in the area for about 8 years, i've come to realize that this museum is ever-changing, yet just as good every time. Definitely worth the low/moderate price. I personally enjoy a cone of soft serve from the classic-diner themed concession stand after a lovely walk through the seemingly endless rooms of cars. I have been to Volo many times as my mom and dad love everything they have, however, I really have to say they have AMAZING, customer service, and the people were great to me and my son, Joe loves cars and everything about them, it was rainy and a little slow the day we were toodling around and one of the employees walked us around and talked with us, I have NEVER had such a wonderful time and I will be back, and I will make sure I bring everyone with me! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. We didn't go into the malls, just the cars. Staff was friendly and helpful, and there was plenty to look at. Took my 2 small children and not only did they enjoy it, but nobody was shadowing us waiting for the kids to go wild. read more

I love this place. They give Veterans a discount on admissions. We were there on October 31st when Svengoolie was there giving away free autographs. I love the antiques stores and the little shops. The only thing that makes me sad is that I can't afford to buy to buy the 10 plus cars I want out there. I am a huge collector car fan. I have two classics myself. Although I am not presently in the market for another car, I do constantly check antiques and classics that are for sale. Although I have never visited Volo (I do plan to before too long) I enjoy looking at their car presentations and ads. Now for the reason for this review. I have read all of the other reviews and for the most part they are positive except that the number of complaints on rude or grumpy staff is a concern. I often check company reviews prior to purchases or visits and since a friend is contemplating a purchase from Volo I thought I would check their reviews. Most product or company reviews that are negative are not responded to by the company. It was a pleasant surprise that Volo took the time to personally address every negative review with their view, comment or explaination. Kudos to Volo for listening and showing concern regarding any negative feedback. The sign of a great company is their concern over dissatisfied customers which is shown by the negative review rebuttals. I am impressed with Volo's integrity and I plan to visit soon from Tennessee and will consider them with future automobile purchases. I do suggest that you get rid of those crabby and rude employees that are giving you a black eye. read more

Had a fun day overall until we went to the antique mall. A gentleman worker berated my nephew about a putting his foot on a metal scooter. My nephew apologized numerous times and expressed to the man that he wasn't going to put his weight on it and was just rolling it around. My nephew is only 15 yrs. old and this man wouldn't stop scolding him until I came up to my nephew, apologized to the worker and shuffled our group out. I got my nephew's story on our way out to the car. It surely put a damper on our day. We will not be coming back. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE! Much better to eat before you arrive at one of the places nearby. Also, it's not fair to charge more to see a few extra-fancy cars in a separate barn. Excellent assortment of cars and you can see why they charge to get in to what is essentially a large used car dealership. Military displays were very good, but Cantigny is waaay better for that. Antiques and collectibles are as good as any multi-dealer condo/mall. read more

Took my grand-son for our special Valentine's Day. I hadn't been there in a couple years, his First time. Bragged about the fresh made shakes. How disappointing to find out that now the ice cream is in a stupid cooler, no shakes, sundaes ! And the food is pre-packaged hot dogs and hamburgers. He got a cheeseburger, it was Cold and Dry. He is a growing boy but didn't eat it because "its terrible". A Rude worker made a comment that a toy wasn't put back in the exact spot. In a area that was a mess anyway. Made my grand-son feel awful !!! Did enjoy the cars, took a lot of photos, he really enjoyed being able to sit in the race car.
