Boarding your dog can be an extremely stressful time for anyone but for me it was impossible I never felt comfortable leaving her anywhere without me. 5 stars is simply not enough to express my gratitude and appreciation for this amazing group of animal care givers. First, let me start with how much, Scout, my 6 year old black lab has enjoyed her daycare and boarding time with VTAL over the past 6 months or so. It is her happy place! Fast forward to last Friday morning as we had boarded her for our July 4 stay on Tybee. 7:00 am on the 5th I received a call from Raquel at VTAL very calmy but with a sense of urgency describing that the morning team noticed Scout was not acting like herself, and they weren't sure what was going on but felt they needed to take her to the emergency vet on Stephenson asap. To make this very long story a bit shorter, they got her to the vet within minutes. When I arrived Raquel waited with me until the vet gave us an update, and I'm sure she would have waited forever with me if that is what I needed. While waiting, Raquel shared with me that Scout was totally unresponsive when they arrived at the clinic. The kennel is only 3 minutes away from the hospital. Scout has been diagnosed with Addison's Disease, and she was having an Addisonian Crisis when they found her that morning. This is something that is often misdiagnosed or acted on too late. Dr. Lamar and the entire team at the incredible Savannah Emergency Vet have repeatedly credited VTAL with saving her life. I'll have another awesome review for vet team. The quick thinking of VTAL and their knowledge of Scout saved the day. I wish I had the name of the team member that found her that morning, but she is an angel along with Raquel. Now for the good news! Scout is being discharged today and is going to live a perfectly normal and healthy life by simply taking a daily steroid pill. She will be back to playing with her VTAL family just as soon as she's 100%. Again, sorry for such a long review but had to do it! THANK YOU VTAL! read more

Beware, do your homework. This place seems to be great but extremely suspicious. Make sure you ask to take a tour of the facilities. We had gone there for almost 2 years when we were ceremoniously ask to leave because our dog was to 'rambunctious' . That's the whole reason we take them and our rambunctious dog has actually gotten calmer. The staff loves her, they send home those holiday photos, never a complaint and suddenly she's in time out. None of it makes sense and for the amount of money they charge I expect a little more conversation if there was an issue. Think twice. read more

We have boarded and used full and half daycare. Our Charlie has seizures and it makes him fearful of other dogs. I told them I'd wait in the parking lot during the Temperament Test. They were fairly confident, but I kept the phone close. Charlie loves it there, he has gone almost every week for over a year. His seizures are much fewer and far between and he has even become a "brave" dog and now gets in the pool. We love checking up on him on the Webcam. We visited and got a tour there as we were planning a trip to California and were told dates that we needed to board our dog were available but that we'd have to bring our dog back in for a Temperament Test first, which had to be scheduled another day. We were also visiting other daycares during this period. At that time, we were told, that the dates that we requested could be booked pending the outcome of her test. (Which she passed,) but once we asked them to book our dog, we were informed that the dates were no longer available, causing us to lose time because we had toured and had her tested; without a reservation to board her. We were disappointed in the outcome of our encounter with this business. We were under the impression that they were (tentatively saving our spot, upon our dog passing her temperament test.) I always know my gyrls are well cared for when I take them here. The staff is very efficient in scheduling and it is like luxury concierge service with drop offs and pickups. The Christmas photos were adorable. I even had to leave my dogs when Daisy was healing from a food allergy and needed extra care. Downside is that webcam does not always work but I trust them with my precious dog-ters. read more

Von Trapp is our go-to for daycare/lodging for our fur babies ! The best part of this is the people there love their jobs and the animals - and it shows! Reasonable prices and great service! ~~ Location ~~ Easy to get to, as they're located in midtown Savannah on Waters Ave. There's plenty of parking around the building and they currently offer curbside service as safety precautions. ~~ Services & Ambience ~~ They have day care and lodging services for your pups and kitties. They also have additional services such as baths and nail trimming . We always have our pups go for daycare and one of our dogs had stayed for 3 days there. It was a good experience . They have individual rooms for the dogs and if your pup needs medical attention or needs to be lodged alone, they have the option of zen suites with their own outside area. All the daycare areas have webcams, which is a huge plus for us as we were very nervous about our anxious new rescue meeting the other dogs and people there. It was amazing to observe how they introduced her to other dogs and eventually we saw her frolicking about with other dogs. Also, every area has someone supervising the pups at all time. It is very clean (we observed them cleaning up immediately after a pup has an accident). Another fun part of daycare/lodging is the pool time!! My boy loves his water and he has a great time in the pool (we observed on the cameras) . I also highly recommend the bath and nail trimming as they have always done an exceptional job with my babies. The owner is a Vet and the staff are highly knowledgeable, so its reassuring for us to leave the pups there. Note that they have strict rules on the pups being up to date on vaccines and yearly tests for parasites for the safety of their other residents. ~~Hours & Pricing ~~ They are open from 7am to 7 pm : you can drop and pick up your pup during these hours . On Holidays, daycare is closed but they do lodge. As for the pricing, it is very reasonable for the service received. Be weary if you have a dog with special needs, including separation anxiety. They came highly recommended, but I would imagine that is for the typical dog. My rescue staffy mix is scared and anxious, as well as has other special needs. They do not seem to have the desire or ability to handle the dog with special needs, even though they advertise an additional fee and program for these dogs. We brought our dog in for the temperament test and rehab evaluation for an additional fee prior to boarding so our dog can get rehab while being boarded for 9 days. That did not happen. It was suggested we bring her in for a one night stay prior to boarding and when we scheduled, she was never approved for that overnight stay (even though vet/owner recommended it.) A few hours after dropping our dog off for boarding (we were going on cruise which they were well aware of) we get a call from office manager that we must pick our dog up because it wasn't going to work. She is a "flight risk" because she's trying to jump over the fence. We were already in Florida and could not pick her up. She's a staffy which the breed is known to have separation anxiety. Give her a chance to calm down and relax. Don't call someone and ruin their vacation having to worry about our dog because you clearly don't want her there, and now we have to be worried about her treatment. We called her regular vet to prescribe additional sedating medicine to help keep her calm. They spoke with Vonn Trapp and gave them additional directions for her already prescribed medication to help her relax. We spent our cruise monitoring the cameras regularly. Not one time did we see her try to jump fence. Not one time did we see her being provided any of the activities we paid for. Not one time did we see them follow the directions we left for them regarding the care or needs for our dog. Yet they had no problem charging us for services they did not provide. Our dog spent the entire time in the kennel (with items that did not belong to her or were missing or were specifically instructed not to give her.) She only went out to pee which was minimal. She is seen jumping on kennel door which is how she alerts to go out to use bathroom and I emailed an urgent message to them to go let her out, but it was to late she peed in her kennel then ended up lying in it because they ignored her and left her too long before walking her. This was not the only time she was seen lying in her kennel in which she had an accident. The office manager during her call made a point to tell us we don't leave them lying in their filth. Well that's not what we witnessed. Although paying for a zen suite which is an additional fee for special needs dogs, she was moved in and out of the suite daily. She was not kept in the suite we paid extra for. I have pictures but they are not allowed to be posted, but prove everything in this review. No play time, only outside to pee and no indication she is trying to escape, evidenced by no leash and girl standing with hand on hip and foot crossed just waiting for her to finish using bathroom. She never received any therapy we paid a consult fee for nor did she get in the pool we asked for and is supposed to be included In the charges we paid for. She didn't get outdoor play time also included in what we paid for. She just went out to use bathroom then put right back in her kennel. She spent the 9 days being additionally sedated and left in her kennel. She came home with identical soars on both hind legs as well as a staff member who has no idea how to properly put on a harness and sent her home that way which could have caused additional injury to my dog because of lack of their training and/or concern. read more

I came to Savannah several months ago for a temporary job. I brought my chocolate labrador and needed to find a good day care for her. After a few tries at other places in town with less that ideal results we found Von Trapp. The staff is caring and confident. The cameras work great. But the true test was if my dog was happy to go there each morning and came back happy and tired from good activity. They passed with flying colors! It's evident that Dr. Von Trapp and her entire staff are committed to the health and happiness of the animals in their care. Made a reservation July 5 to board my 3 small dogs for a few days near the end of August. The earliest appointment they would give me for the temperment "test" was today, August 3rd. I got the updated shots for all three dogs last month. Today they noticed in the medical records, they have had for weeks, that one of the girls is still intact. Apparently in the frequently asked questions area of their website they mention all animals should be spayed or neutered. First I am hearing of it. I was told that is a "deal breaker". My nephew's wedding is days away. All of these boarding places require reservations weeks in advance. I am so mad! There are simply No Words. NONE! Why can't I give negative stars? read more

They're capacity which is posted in their main lobby says they have a limit of 40 pets however upon asking an employee and also seeing How many dogs are in their facility on a daily basis it would appear that they have upwards of 130 to 150 dogs in their facility a day! This is unsafe and is a direct violation of their license. I thankfully Never ended up taking my dogs here after a few visits to the lodge And seeing the Unsafe environment and conditions but be warned current and future clients they have way to many dogs and not enough space or employees to care for them... read more

This was once a great place to board your dogs, but apparently no more. My newest addition (a deaf rescue) just spent a miserable weekend with them and I'm so sorry that this was her first boarding experience! On day one she was left out in 100+ heat for hours with no respite while other dogs had pool & inside time, then I was told that she WAS actually taken inside. I was on a 7 hour road trip and had her on webcam that entire time and knew this wasn't true. We were expecting to see her swim, then were concerned about the heat and the fact that she looked miserable. I called & as usual got voicemail so had to leave a message telling them to get her inside. It was still over an hour before she was taken in. I then requested that she be put in the "indoor area" for the rest of the stay (it has a doggie door). So for the rest of her stay she was basically not allowed to interact with the other dogs, and on the last day was actually kept completely isolated inside with the doggie door closed and nobody around. I don't know if this treatment was out of spite because the staff wasn't pleased about being questioned about leaving my dog outside in dangerous heat (especially when there is a huge, mostly unused indoor area). As for the staff-- the attendants they have now at best stand around looking bored and do not engage with the dogs, and at worst actively avoid any interaction. I had noticed this all weekend and was infuriated and so sorry to see one of them pointedly ignore my dog as she walked through the room where she was kept. The woman refused to acknowledge her at all as she ran alongside trying to get her attention. This "caretaker" wouldn't even look at her or pet her! This after being left alone by them all day. They should be ashamed. They used to have people there that actually liked dogs. read more
