I am new to the area and am looking for a grocery store to frequent. The grocery store where I used to live will be hard to replace. I came here today. They had all the items I needed but I couldn't find any employees to help me when I was having a hard time finding things. Tonite I was very upset to see the neighborhood drunk buy a 12pk of beer for a minor at this Vons. We were loading up our groceries when we spotted "Vince" walking into Vons with a kid we had never seen before. We guessed right away what he was probably up to. We decided to wait and see what they came out with. Sure enough a few minutes later they came out with their beer. Vince carrying it put it down once they got a few feet from the door. The kid pulled out two beers gave them to Vince and ran with the rest. He had a younger boy with him, maybe 8 years old. When I went inside and reported it to Maggie, the manager she told me she was new to this store and was still learning who the regulars were and did not know who Vince was and she could not do anything about it. Besides, they don't have cameras outside. The so called security guard is this diminutive guy who is more interested in reading magazines than doing his job. He did not think it was a big deal since his mom used to let him drink when he was fourteen . So there you go. read more

It took two clerks, one bakery clerk who left the register while I was standing in line and didn't answer six calls from two clerks and one of the floor managers, and finally another manager sauntering back to the customer service area,just to be informed that there is NO SOUP AT ALL because that refrigerator is BROKEN. 1. A sign does wonders for customers who don''t know what's going on, and when the staff is M.I.A. 2. Move the product to one of many other refrigerators in the grocery store. Duh. 3. Once in awhile I will run to this Vons to grab a box of Hot Pockets or fruit before I head to work since it's on the way. My co-worker brought me a bacon breakfast burrito from their deli recently and I thought it was pretty good. So this morning I decided to get myself a breakfast burrito. Obviously, no line since it was 7am and there was one staff member working behind the counter and another bagging the bread. At 6am the deli opens and you can go up to them and order a breakfast sandwich or burrito and they make it right in front of you. The young lady that helped me this morning was nice and wasn't rude at all. I think her name was Leina. For $2.49 I got a decent breakfast burrito with potato wedges, cheddar cheese, bacon and chipotle sauce. The size isn't huge, which I like. It's a good size for me since I can finish it without feeling miserable the rest of the day and it's not overly greasy. Actually, it wasn't greasy at all. The burrito my co-worker had gotten me before had ranch sauce in it and I thought that was pretty good. Different but good. Leina suggested the sriracha or chipotle sauce. I'm not a big fan of sriracha so I chose the latter. I like it more than the ranch. The burrito isn't amazing. I would definitely prefer crispy hash browns rather than potato wedges but if it weren't for the sauces and the reasonable price then I wouldn't be returning. The deli also makes sandwiches for lunch as well as combo meals. I was looking for a chicken salad sandwich on the menu board but they don't serve it. Like I mentioned in the beginning, I only stop by this Vons occasionally. It's big, quiet and the shelves are always stocked or I see somebody stocking but that's because I go there at 7am when it's practically empty. Overall, I have fairly decent experiences here. It's not like I'm coming here with grandeur expectations--it's a damn supermarket. I get in and get out. No biggie. read more

We came here to pick up some snacks and alcohol for our condo. Easy layout- maybe because I shop at Safeway- and I found out they are the same company! They get a star for taking my Safeway Club card. Review is on the sandwich area: Stars are removed because it was the middle of lunch and there was no one to be found at the sandwich area. When we finally snagged a gal putting out cheese in the deli, she was irritated to have to make a sandwich. Watch her every move when she marks what sand which you have, because when we got to the checkout, our bill was $60 for 3 sandwiches!! Had exactly what I needed which was a big 24 pack of water. What is there to say about a supermarket. I know some might say hey this is not a very good review. Ok so here I go. Wow the water in the 24 pack was excellent except the 2.99 price that was actually over 4 dollars because of the California taxes. But that is not Vons fault. What draws me to this Von's location is the fact it is open until 2am every night. I like the option of doing some late night shopping while everyone else is sleeping. Nothing really blows my mind about this Von's. It is relatively small compared to other Von's and it's definitely not the most pleasing to the eyes. I'm pretty sure this location has been around for sometime. I usually get most of what I am looking for here and the prices at Von's are pretty reasonable, unless I could find the time to go to Target; than Von's prices are outrageous for certain items. All and all, this location gets a thumb up...well not all the way up; I know of many other grocery stores I would much rather shop at when I am in the area. read more

This location is notorious for keeping expired products on the shelf. Ive almost walked away with expired milk and produce. They started putting up signs to remind customers to check expiration dates but they should really put the signs up for their employees. They only keep two registers open at a time and if you go in the express lane with one item, they will let people with a cart full check out at that same register. read more

Just moved to the neighborhood and came in here last night to stock up my brand new refrigerator... Super stoked. The customer service was exceptional, from the box boys walking around, to managers, to the lovely check out clerk. The staff were all friendly with pleasant attitudes and willing to offer assistance. Found a ton of great buys with the Vons Club card, as well as with the Safeway generic brand. Produce section could be a little more bountiful, and there were NO produce bags, I had to hunt for a couple... Other than that, great experience. I'll be shopping here often... read more

This place looks nice. They have a good Florist. The produce is very average. They often have a sale on berries which is nice. I have thrice purchased produce here that I found to be bad, rotten, or moldy upon arriving home. The beer/wine selection is average. The seafood selection is abysmal(dont waste your time coming here for fish). The meat selection looks fairly impressive. And Safeway has a nice selection of frozen groceries. The Deli is so-so. The Bakery is above average. Overall the reason I go to this grocery store is because its close. If any decent size grocery store was closer I would probably never shadow the doorway again. Von's used to have the best Bagels. But about a month ago things started to change. NO chocolate chips ones. not very many raisins in bagels anymore either. Visited this store yesterday evening and I must compliment the young lady who assisted me behind the deli counter Vanessa. I usually order a footlong sandwich with extra meat. All grocery chains are basically the same. This store is always busy, they try to open check stands when needed, but its usually only one additional checker. They try their best to keep the place clean. The checkers are nice. The reason I'm giving this place a well deserved 2 star rating is because of the long lines and my recent experience at the store. So as I was visiting the deli area the maintenance person was changing light bulbs on a very tall ladder. Just for safety reasons I think this should have been a two persons job. Well, it was unsafe! As the maintenance person was changing out the bulb he drops the bulb..... obviously it falls and breaks. Broken glass all over the ground! Luckily no one was around, but me, another customer, and the deli worker, we were at a safe distance thankfully. I'm not sure if the manager was informed about this incident. Anyway, it was just not a good idea for one person to tackle something so risky especially since most grocery stores' ceilings are like 30 feet high. It made me feel uncomfortable just seeing him up there with no one holding the ladder. Yikes! On a more positive note, I do like the Vons app, you can get some good deals- the "Just4u" items can save you some money. I saved like $20. The staff are usually friendly. This one girl was really nice to me, I wonder what happened to her :( Prices fluctuate, and they always have sales. Some are expensive, some are reasonable, but nothing is cheap. Even a quart of milk is pricey there. The club card saves money, but it's a nag to use. Use the old tried and true 867-5309 number ;) I'd tell you the real reason the club card exists, but I would probably be detained against my will for doing so :P The donuts are outstanding in the morning - But they leave them out all day and that's gross. Seriously guys, change it out by noon, dont think we haven't noticed. But the Worst part about the donuts: If you get there super-early, they still have old stock from the day before if the new shipment hasn't come in. Be extremely cautious of this if you're up early for work. One time they were completely sold out of the store-brand white bread and hot dog rolls for some reason. This happens often, actually. Their deli meat section (And the fancy packaged-meat section next to it) is Extremely expensive and their demographics is completely off-course. If you want something stupid like a pound of roast beef, be expected to pay 10 bucks or more. I dont care about the fancy names they give to their brands to make a buck or if they're made from kobe beef slaughtered off of a limited-edition species of cow that was raised in the mountains of northern canada. Lower the prices, switch suppliers, do whatever you have to if you want business. I come there to eat, not fall for a marketing gimmick or learn a geography lesson. The pasta salads need an overhaul too - price-wise and selection-wise. Ralphs is a terrible store but at their pasta salads are great, you could take a lesson from them on that. Their freshly made bread and sandwiches are really spectacular though. Good prices too. That is the only thing I have zero complaints about. Loretta Sanchez used to campaign and talk to the public in front of the store once in a while, but I dont know if she still does. She's actually really nice too, always smiles and shakes hands. Area surrounding it - It's busy. Theres a starbucks and a subway on one side, both are headache-inducing to walk by - I wouldnt give either of them my business if I was being paid to do so. read more

I love Vons and their customer service but they are really going downhill. I went to the bakery section to order a cake for my daughter's birthday and was treated very rudely. The first lady, to "assist" me was being standoffish from the very beginning. I told her if she was busy I could come back,but she insisted she was not. (So she just treats customers as if they are a burden on her day) I asked her a few questions and she proceeded to ask me more than once if I was as going to order or not, as if I was wasting her time. I asked her to give me a second to check out what cakes they had available and to make it easier on her, I showed her a picture of what I wanted. She then brings another lady who wouldn't let me speak and sad "idk" to most of my questions. When I informed her she was coming off as rude, she starts talking over me stating otherwise, and walks away. Where is your customer service, Vons?! I could have gone to any other bakery and apparently I chose the wrong one. How are you allowing your employees to be condescending to your customers. This place doesn't even deserve one star. The lines are always long, not enough open registers. Today, a lady stayed chatting with the cashier, as if there wasn't a long line, only one other register open. After 10 minutes of the talking, I choose to say that it's very inconsiderate to keep us waiting this long. The lady makes a scene and the cashier Erik says to us "too bad, I didn't ask you to get in my line" he was extremely rude and kept commenting under his breath, i told him alright three times, to stop, he kept going. I pre-ordered 42 pink and gold cupcakes for my girl's birthday party, the man I talked to from Bakery his name is Heron, very very sweet. He couldn't do them the way I wanted, but his idea was good enough for me. I was worried on how they would look, but you have to remember.. you get what you pay for. I went to go pick them up once I saw them I was super picky the sprinkles looked yellow to me, I was sad. But then I realized I was expecting too much, once I started displaying them on my cupcake stand I had to restock them 30 minutes later and sooner realized my father in law was eating them straight from the container box lol I loved them and so did EVERYONE from my daughter's party, I'm so happy! read more

I live in the neighborhood as well and was excited to have a store within walking distance. Unfortunately, it's not going to be this store. The customer service is actually the worst I have seen at any grocery store and perhaps even anywhere. I watch people being treated rudely all the time. I would like to file a complain about one of the bag boys. I'm not sure of his name but he is "black." He made very rude and racist comments to my boyfriend and I while we are at the checkout counter. First, he called us Chinese, and when I told him we were Vietnamese, he asked me what the difference is. I politely explained that they are completely different ethnicities. All he had to do was apologize, since it wasn't a big deal. But NO. He went on to ask, "if someone speaks Chinese will you understand them?" I just clearly stated to him that they are completely different. "So can you tell the difference between Chinese and Vietnamese people? What's the difference?" Are you kidding me? He seriously thinks all Asians are the same. I stopped answering him. But he would not stop talking! THEN, He said "I have Samoan & Tongan friends. Even though they look THE SAME, Samoan's are taller and bigger, but you wouldn't know that unless you have Samoan friends." Wow, I'm sorry but that is an ignorant generalization and you really need to set higher standards for your employees. So the store is clean but my complaint is with the deli department. I stood in line for 30 minutes to get half a pound of ham. Now let me say there was only one client ahead of me. Kyle was not only taking his sweet time with a sandwich by chatting about how he gets hungry when he makes them bla bla bla, 30 minutes all in small talk.
