While the reviews are valid, I go to this vons because it is convenient I can walk to it in a very short time. I use it primarily as a quick stop. When I don't feel like baking bread or fresh pasta or even pizza from scratch I go there and grab something. I would never use the meat department. Not that it is dangerous (at least I don't think so) but because the selection is terrible. So I stick to things I need right away and that makes it a good place to have near by. read more

Rachel in the Deli department at this location needs to be retrained on her skills and attitude. Today was the third time she has given horrible guest service. The sandwich sign clearly says 3 minutes or less on your sandwich, yet every time she takes at least 12 minutes or more. The first time I complained to the Manager on duty and he said he would do something about it and clearly that didn't work. She needs to understand that time is important, especially to neighboring businesses who are on a time crunch for their lunch hour. Today she was arguing with the bakery manager about what type of bread she should use for my sandwich. It seems everyone needs to be up to par with the skills that Emily (a co worker of Rachel's) has in the Deli. For future frustration if Rachel is there I will not be purchasing anything for that day. This place is fairly conveniently located: near Disneyland, near the 5 freeway off Lincoln exit, right next to Anaheim Promenade, and near Fullerton. Of course, not all Vons locations are the same, as (one would think) the store's product assortment/services cater to the customer of that geographic area. This Vons location doesn't carry bakery-made croissants, like their Garden Grove location does, but that's okay - they carry other baked goods. I came here to order a cake - the staff was helpful and friendly, as I wasn't sure what to order (it was a Retirement cake, and Costco doesn't make this type of occasion cake) as far as size or design. She was able to suggest selections like ordering a full-sheet to feed 60-100 people, put in a request to the baker to make the cake marble as first choice, and a chocolate truffle frosting. She took her time with me and made me feel like a valued customer, which I appreciated. The day I was supposed to pick up the cake, the baker called to tell me that the chocolate truffle frosting was not ideal for the cake size and type I ordered, where she suggested we change it to fudge (as the chocolate truffle frosting hardens). So glad she made that suggestion for change! Everyone loved the cake, as it was moist and had the perfect ratio of frosting:cake:filling. By the way, it had custard filling and only cost $56.99 (and felt like it weighed 13lbs). There are deals to be had here - you just have to look. However, make sure you read the store signs, as pricing can differ from what gets rung up. I thought the Honest Tea I bought in blueberry was on sale (as the ticket stated) for $1.49, but was charged $2.49 at the checkout. By that time, I forgot to mention that the sign said that flavor was on sale. Whatever. Reading is key here! The store is generally clean, with the occasional panhandler outside. Easy to get in and out of this store, as parking is close and not crowded. A Starbucks and donut shop are next door to Vons, and a bank and Jack in the Box share their parking lot also. One of the checkout cashiers was also helpful when I asked if I could sign up for Vons Rewards - he didn't hesitate to say yes when he gave me a card and handed me the form to complete sign-up. read more

This Vons' star rating in right on the money. They don't seem to try very hard make the customer's experience the best it can be. They always are short staffed at night and I've seen the check out line reach twenty deep. I've left my grocers before because I couldn't wait any longer. I go here when I know I need something fast and know I can get it fast. All other times I use other means of groceries. read more

So the store is clean but my complaint is with the deli department. I stood in line for 30 minutes to get half a pound of ham. Now let me say there was only one client ahead of me. Kyle was not only taking his sweet time with a sandwich by chatting about how he gets hungry when he makes them bla bla bla, 30 minutes all in small talk. I think there should be a designated person for the ham section and one for the sandwiches. Come here to get little snacks and breakfast goodies before work in the morning. With that said, I don't have much time to spend. I get what I need and expect to get out as quickly. I don't know what it is, but EVERYTIME I come in, there is always a long line with maybe 2 registers open at most. Actually, the last couple times, I've only seen 1 register open with at least 5-8 people in line before they decide to open another one. Its really annoying when the lonesome cashier calls for help and noone comes. Hopefully, they see whats wrong with the situation and resolve it. read more

Honestly, I am incredibly disappointed in the quality of food I have purchased from my neighborhood Vons. After today I will never shop at this location again. This is my third time in less than one year that I have returned home with groceries and found that something has expired (and more than just a day a two ago.) Twice I have gone back and made an exchange. It is extremely frustrating when I am in the middle of making a meal to have to stop to exchange an ingredient. Not to mention, I had severe food poisoning after eating a rotisserie chicken I purchased here and was hospitalized for five days. Trust me; I wish I were exaggerating. I would suggest that this store review food handling and safety with their employees as well as do a better job at keeping expired products off the shelf. I can not tell you how unpleasant it is to bite into a piece of sour, expired bacon. Since I am already here, I also would like to mention that I feel uncomfortable going into your store because of one of the employees. If I do not go with my boyfriend, he will follow me around while I am shopping and it makes me extremely uncomfortable. The wait at the check out is always a ridiculously long wait. They need to open more check out lines when there are such long lines or get a self check out. I went over on a break and ended up having to just put my stuff down and leave because it was at least a 10 minute wait. read more

I use to live less than a mile from this location. I went a couple of times and that was it. I have never been there when there has been more than 1 check out lines open. I've only been to this store a few times, but it seems like every time I've been here David B. is behind the register haulin' like he knows everyone in his line is on a schedule. He seems to be the only emoloyee here with any sense of urgency or common customer service. I just moved to this neighborhood a few months ago and this is the only place I've found that isn't a zoo. It seems like every store around here is overrun by ladies with a litter of screaming children. I'll gladly pay a little more for my groceries if it means I don't have to maneuver around 20 people when I go down every aisle. This place is clean and well stocked. I come to this Vons when: a). I want a short drive to the grocery store, or b). When I know my other surrounding grocery stores wont stock the product(s) I need. Either way I can be assured of one thing. I will be paying a lot more for my groceries here than other grocery stores. They always seem to be understaffed, specially after 8pm or so. I once was in line, or should i say the ONLY check out line that was open, around 9:30pm and the line was 15 people long. It was taking so long that the guy in front of me, carrying a case of beer, just walked out the store, not ran, but walked out the store with it without paying. The cashier was surprised but didn't bother to really react. Does this happen frequently in order to have no real reaction from the cashier? Always sucks when you have a person buying a cart full of groceries and you got 4 or 5 folks with 2 or 3 items each. Clearly the stores fault for not taking action (open up another check out lane). The customer service is really lacking here, several times I've asked where so and so is and they say i don't think we have it, when they clearly do. Makes me feel like they don't want one to waste their time. I have gone to get the item, after searching for it as best i can, and gone to show the employee where i found it and make it clear that they do stock it. The VONS CLUB is a pain in the ass, i gotta carry a Vons Card to pay $4 for a bag of chips that i can get at Food 4 Less for $2.50, or pay $6 without the Vons Card??!!. Again, i ONLY come here when i have to get something quick. I really think its only a matter of time before the likes of Vons, Ralphs, Albertsons, etc go outta business from competition from the likes of other Grocery stores. read more

This is the closest grocery to home. Where do I even start? The customer service and the quality of the products need work. The produce section and meat department is horrible, you really have to chose your items carefully to make sure you dont get sick. This Vons location is just down the street from me and I was reminded today why I drive out of my way to buy groceries elsewhere. Employees are not smart or efficient. There are never enough registers open. It feels dirty. The produce department is only there for show (Sprouts would be your nearest and best alternative if you eat real fruits and vegetables). The person checking me out took FOREVER to complete transactions and didn't know how to use his 10 key which I found interesting seeing as you would need to get good at that working at a grocery store. After seeing the Yelp page here online, I see I am not the only one unhappy with the place. So, I will state just the facts. I am done purchasing items that need refrigeration here. I purchased meat here last month NOT a managers special, I should have looked at the date. Started dinner the next day, opened the chub of Jennie O turkey, and we tossed it, it was spoiled. Dated out the day I tried to use it. I have left the store without milk because it was going to expire in less then 4 days, tried to get the yogurt that was on 5 dollar Friday special that trip too, it was 1 week past the sell by date. Tonight, I ran in for liquid coffee creamer, got it home and it had been cut with the box cutter. Dripped all over, so I transferred it to my own container, hope it's not spoiled. But, yeah I am over it Vons. I will shop at the Northgate up the street or the Target. I have been shopping at Vons for 15 years... just not this one. read more

i like this vons. its a little drive from my house but its always a pit stop for beer. the staff are great! they address me by my last name, which is great! they are always talkative and friendly. i always have a deep conversation with the girl that works graveyard. i like her hair and the way she applies her makeup. shes cute. aside of all that, the place is always clean and organized. they always have amazing sales for beer. Friendly service and great selection of items. I generally do not shop at Von's because I find it more expensive then other grocery stores but came in here the other night with 2 friends for some late night drinks & frozen pizza. I am completely satisfied with my flower purchase at Vons! I went in for a bouquet and I was walking around looking for the perfect one. The employee, I think her name was Lori E? Came and asked if I needed help, I liked that she wasn't pushy and that she didn't make me feel like I had to get my flowers and get going. After selecting my bouquet, she gladly went above and beyond in making it look extra special. She wrapped them in new plastic and added a bright pink bow. She even let me borrow her pen to write on the card. I didn't have to ask her for her to do this, she did it and she looked like she enjoyed what she was doing. I made sure to tell her she was very kind and that her customer service went beyond expectations! read more

We came in the other night because my bf had purchased a bottle of Crown and something was off about it. We went to the manager and he said that there was nothing he could do- that is was against the law to return alcohol. Hmmm, I didn't think so. so, I went home and googled that shit. Turns out that it is against COMPANY policy and NOT state law. So, someone should school him on the policies that the company has versus the state laws. The only saving grace was the man who checked us out- David was kind, courteous and should be in the management position. I decided to get some flowers to switch it up and brighten up a room. Well when I went to Vons I was disappointed at the selection of flowers, granted it was the week after Valentines day so I wont knock off points for that. Now this is where I start deducting points. They advertise 18 roses for $12.99 however there where not any bunches of 18. I asked the florist and they told me I could take a dozen and then 6 others from another dozen and mix them together. OKay , fine this works out great ...I told her no need to re-arrange them really just wrap them up and I would do it when I got home. Well she ended up doing it anyways... okay fine no big deal ... when they re-wrapped the 18 that I had picked out they did not include the flower food so I had to remind her to at least give me one. Wow okay so now I am just getting annoyed but again no big deal she was trying to be nice and okay maybe she was forgetful. Well now its been 3 days (this is where the stars get knocked off)... all of the white roses ( 12 ) never opened and after only three days are wilted over ! The orange roses ( 6 ) are just starting to open and look amazing. We all know flowers die but heck I only enjoyed them 2.5 days !!! So I made a phone call ( more stars knocked for this ) and I asked if they could do anything and I was informed that the floral department was already gone for the day and not only that nut I have to lug in the 18 roses ... with the vase and all tomorrow and they will see what they can do . Well I don't know if you ( being the people reading this ) but driving around with 18 long stem roses in a water filled vase in my car does not sound great to me. I was slightly shocked that with technology these days I cant just take a photo and bring in 2 or three of them ( or even just the ones that are really bad ) and have them replaced. I am sure from all the banging around the good ones ... all six of them will be ruined by the time I drive to Vons and back ! I've noticed that another Von's store operate with two checkout stands as well (Chapman/Haster).
