Honestly one of the worst grocery experiences I've had. Asked where the restroom was and somehow it turned into attitude, eye rolling, cussing, people talking trash outside the stall, and doors slamming like we're filming a low budget reality show. The warehouse staff in the bright neon green act unbelievably unprofessional and the managers clearly allow it because nobody steps in. You can't talk to customers however you want just because you're having a bad day. Also bought Sabra hummus pretzel packs and somehow all the pretzels were gone when I opened it. At this point I don't even know anymore. Maybe the pretzels escaped the environment before I did. The aluminum cover was all ripped open. 0 stars. Consistently put out past date products. Staff completely apathetic and unhelpful if you need to return/exchange and pick up a few things. Stand in 3 lines and they allowed another customer to harass me when I went up to the front (3rd time waiting in line) to finish checking out on a couple of things. They all just stood there. If you want something from the deli- good luck, they will ignore you in hopes you go away. Only one or two check outs open during peak hours. I have often asked staff and they say management is more worried about labor costs than actual customer service. Always have to bag your own groceries if you don't want smashed items when you get home. The most poorly managed grocery store in the area. They have some great staff members but unfortunately are outnumbered by the rude ones. Staff your mf check outs, staff a limited item check out so you don't have to wait to buy a bottle of wine behind someone with a full cart. I came in only for koolaid which no one could tell me which isle it was on. So I found it - on the drinks isle .. I got granola & saw it would be cheaper with a membership number. So it was around 8 pm December 1st I came for shopping, I have had incidents where my bicycle has got stolen and cops helped me recover it so from then I usually take my bicycle with me into stores like Ralphs, Home depot, Target, etc. this was my second time in Vons on the same day earlier when I came I was told humbly where I can leave my bike and can go to shop by a gentleman with glasses, But when the second time I came I parked my bike at the same spot as I was told but I was intervened by a different guy at the entrance, his attitude was not acceptable first of all he was shouting at the top his lungs from far away calling Aye Aye Aye Aye like as if I was his pet DOG or some ANIMAL! Only to tell me to park my bike in a different place where I was initially doing when I came earlier which would block some alcohol products. Listening to him I had no more desire to keep my bike inside I risked to park it outside. When entering I confronted him and I tried to tell him " you could have told me a " little more ahead please " to which he arrogantly replied I don't know your name ! That gave me a sense of his intellect, He lacks Vocabulary and he is Judgy. He could have used words like Sir, Boss, Hello, Mister, or walk close to me and tell me personally don't park here a little more ahead or something non Racist, he should be trained better because he is the wrong image for a business and It was a pathetic experience. Was hard to shop, with the shelves rather empty. The prices were also up, more than say...Ralph's. But it is convenient. Trouble is, not much there. For instance, go look at sports drinks and find that there are very few bottles, mainly just enough to place a row across the front. Luckily, produce was good and the staff nice. The staff is why I gave 3 stars, the pulled it up from 2, almost a one! I really enjoy the people here. I'd say this place is good for a few items, but for a weekly shopping trip, or bi-monthly if you're like me, it's best to go a bit out of the way. read more

The rest of the store was fine, but the service deli was ruined by a disgusting employee. He seemed to be sick, doing a lot of sniffling while he made my sandwich. He wore a face mask but kept reaching up with his gloved hand to tug on the front of the mask, while he was handling the food. Also, he was halfway through making my sandwich before he told me that since the deli was closing soon, he wouldn't get anything that wasn't already set out and ready. So, for example, no options for types of cheeses. Didn't matter since I couldn't bring myself to eat the sandwich he'd made with his contaminated gloves. I'm used to finding a cold bottle of water near the register on a hot summer day. But I have never found one here. I like mayo on my sandwiches but I have to argue with these people to get a mayo packet for a sandwich I bought. I like getting the correct change, but the cashier will throw your change at you if you correct them. I like paying the posted price for my items but the cashier will laugh at you if you correct him. Today, Nelson, the manager, treated me like I didn't matter when I asked for help with the app. So did the woman I asked before him. Everyone that works here looks so miserable and mean, good lord. Whether you use the self checkout where they profile you if you're not a white hipster and as someone else mentioned, they literally HOVER over you with their fake smiles and gawk only at you while you're just trying to scan your items and get out of their pleasant environment. And if you decide to stand in the ONE checkout line they have open you'll be greeted with the most miserable angry employee who is so bothered you decided to wait in their line - no thank you. Went to vons to get sandwich for lunch. Girl in Deli says we have no bread we cant make sandwich. Then proceeded to show me the old cucumber and onion which i wouldnt of had sandwich. BEWARE! I parked in this Vons' parking lot and went in to grab my mom some flowers and a pack of gum and when I came out my car got towed for $320! I asked the manager and he said very rudely that he needed to see my receipt so after I walked 1hr to get my car back I came back and showed him my receipt, he then said "oh, well once it's towed I can't do anything." I asked around at the tow yard and found out that the tow guy is friends with the Von's store manager, so I'm guessing they get some sort of kickback for each car they refer. Even though this location has been way worse, I can't say I've ever had a good experience shopping here. The customer base is a strange mix of millenial and elder Z hipsters, working class Hispanics, and homeless people. I call it the "hipster ghetto Vons", but I think Echo Park has always been like this. You will find a few things that appeal to the first group, but it's pretty basic. I only go here if I really, really need something, as it is a very convenient location. The service here is much to be desired, save for one or two old timers that are nice and efficient. I get the sense there is high turnover, because the newer and younger cashiers are in dire need of better training. My last visit, the line was painfully slow, and when it was my turn, because the young female cashier didn't make sure she scanned all of my stuff (it was only 3 items), nor listened when I clearly said "yes, please" when she asked if I wanted a bag, I had to pay twice, the second time, she gives me the food total, then a new total, after I gave her cash, I said "you just said $1.99", she said "I didn't charge you for the bag the first time", I then said "I had said I wanted a bag", meanwhile the next person in line is crowding me. I just took my stuff and left the change and the receipt, which she had just set down on the food conveyer belt thing. I've had worse experiences, that was just the latest. The employees (except for a couple more seasoned ones) are pretty zombified here unfortunately. I would only recommend going here if you forgot something. read more

I come here for the produce department which is 10x better than Whole Foods in terms of selection and freshness. Cashiers are always nice. Store is relatively clean. My one major gripe is with the deli counter. Every time I get deli meat there's an issue. Either I stand there being ignored, are given the wrong meat (ham instead of turkey that is rung up as turkey), or they tell me they can't slice it thinly when they have in the past... It's become such a dice roll every time I now go to Gelson's. My one suggestion to management is find a better way to manage the deli, perhaps less prep foods, better compensation and/ or better training for the employees working there. Everyone looks miserable or checked out and it clearly impacts the customer. read more

Vons club membership has become a real challenge to save money. You have to download the app when you enter the store and need to keep downloading apps throughout the store to get the low prices they advertise on certain items. They make shopping their specials a lot of work to get the lowest price. If that's not enough they keep sending text ( what feels like daily) to come in and get a Free bottle of water or some silly thing. Like Really. I better Run To Vons and get my FREE bottle of water. Vons isn't there for their members. They just want to play head games to sale more product. Watch your recent as well. Six times in 4 months had to return for partial refund. Worst customer service ever !!! "Management feels entitled and belittle people based on their ethnicity... I have never felt discriminated against to based on my race but they do make sure to make it a problem. Cashiers and Managers socializing while long lines and only 2 cashiers opened. I had seen staff being rude to other Hispanics and older people but I had never experienced a situation like today where they basically said are you going to stop talking or ... and taking their time on purpose while long lines and customers waiting. They definitely need courses on customer service and people skills worst customer service. Store is great unfortunately some staff make store experience very unpleasant. "Management rolling their eyes and taking over customers and accusing them or saying stuff they did not say is pretty normal at that store! Two of my items were priced incorrectly when I was checking out. They sent the man assigned bagging duties to price check. Rather than ask me if I could step aside to accommodate other customers in the line, the cashier just starts ringing up another sale after suspending mine. This is a massive grocery haul, so when my price check comes, I'm going to have to wait rather than send that person to one of the other open lanes. The cashier treating me like I'm invisible isn't as bad as the operations manager Nelson openly disparaging me for my impatience when he asks me to go to another lane to be rung out. I don't think he would have spoken to a man in this manner. As he's ringing me, I see I'm missing one of my items. That first cashier almost gave it to the guy he rushed to help instead of me. They had to take it out of that guy's bag. Now I'm ridiculed, by the bagger as a "blowhard" for asking for my second item. All because I wanted the correct prices for two items I was buying on a $30 grocery visit. read more
