Vons/Ralphs prices are absolutely ludicrous for a lower-end grocery store (yes they are the Winn-Dixie of California but without commensurate prices). This particular location is woefully understaffed, and I'm not sure how it serves the Palisades/Malibu market given how pedestrian it's grocery offerings are, and how frankly disgusting the prepared foods are. For this trash store to occupy such a prime location, with so few alternatives nearby, is a true shame! read more

They are currently the only grocery store in the Palisades. It's an opportunity for them to win over customers from Ralphs or even Gelson's (unlikely Erewon). But NO. They suck just as much as ever, if not more. I asked for help at the hot counter. The singular employee said (from the back) that he was on lunch break and directed me to request help at the front of the store. I did, and the manager was running around, trying to be everything to everyone. Corporate MUST adequately staff their stores or risk losing customers permanently. Once I move back, I will continue to avoid this store, as I did before the fires. P.S. Why is joining their club not enough to obtain advertised sale prices? No self checkout.. long lines and the computers at the cash register counter works very slow sometimes. The store is well stocked with everything you might find at a grocery store. There is a Starbucks inside and nice outdoor seating area. Easy parking. read more

You know I really like this Vons, but every single time Sandra is there she is always rude to me . I stood in like waiting to be rang up and Sandra is there with YET another attitude, she never said hello nothing she rang up me as she was speaking to another worker looked at me like trash did I say even still never said anything. So I then say oh wow hello you never spoke to me, she said that's because her relief was there . What does that have to do with speaking? Went inside Vons to purchase snacks & came back to my car being towed while parked in handicap with my handicap placard. There was an event across the street & it looked cool from far so AFTER we bought our items, we went to see what was going on across the street. Within 10 minutes, a tow truck came & tried to tow the car. The workers there didn't realize we were customers & there sign says customer parking 1 hour. We were there for a total of 15-20 minutes & the tow truck tried taking the car. (Luckily it wasn't fully hooked on yet) Worst service, we will NOT be back. I'm not sure how I can have such a different experience at this Von's than the people who have complained about it here. The staff are super friendly, when lines have gotten long the manager is quick to open another line, and produce is fresh. I like that they're putting more of an emphasis on organic produce. They carry salmon from Santa Monica Seafood, which I love because it saves me a trip. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that it's not the absolute best grocery store ever (there are specialty items I wish they carried). But it's certainly good enough to be my go-to store for basic shopping needs. Definitely prefer it to the Palisades Ralph's. read more

I dont have any memorable experience with any of the employees here at this location. The store appears to be outdated. The selection seems empty at times with repeated items that lay side by side. The restroom is very dirty and graffiti is all over the toilet seat and next to the urinals. {Code 12345} I go here weekly because Its convenient for a beach outing. I feel sorry for the people who work at Von's in the Palisades, they have to put up with some crazy, entitled shoppers. Unfortunately, the employees aren't equipped to deal with them. Tonight I was standing in line for a checker, as were the 10 people behind me, when a fashionably posh woman with a mask half on, struts in front of everyone in line and sweet talked the checker into allowing her to cut in front of 11 people. I wish I had taken a video of her screaming at the top of her lungs "he was helping meee!" when I told her to get in back of the line. You could then see what a true "Karen" looks like. Ugh. I know that Von's cannot control who shops there, but perhaps some training on how to deal with difficult people would be advised. This isn't the 1st time it's happened. This is a great location, whether you're local or just a regular visitor, and it provides all the necessities a Vons can offer the customer. It's a little squished in and old in decor, but everything works and is available. The customer service is neither good nor bad, nothing major. read more

Hi It's better to let the public know of my recent experience especially in today's times when there's unfortunately still so much hatred and racism in the world and so many mentally sick people that should not be in the workplace because of mental illness. I myself encountered a very racist incident at the Vons in Pacific Palisades. My 2 year old son and husband walked toward the deli counter to place an order. We were greeted by 1 employee who turned to tell her other employee to put his phone away to help us with placing an order. The male employee holding his phone in hand had refused to put his phone away and was seen telling his coworker he doesn't want to help another (previous)shopper and that he will keep on recording that shopper at Vons while announcing that she is Jewish! I was taken back immediately by his racist comment. I replied Excuse me, I happen to be Jewish-- I found your comment extremely racist. Do you have something to say about Judaism?!!!! He could not answer me. What was even more disgusting was that he had not one bit of sorrow or any shame for his actions. shame on @V Pacific Palisades for hiring a racist employee. read more

It is sad to see a local grocery chain like Vons with 2-3 star ratings at literally every location. For those who don't know, Vons was founded here in LA in 1906. The store grew to many locations on the values of customer service and quality. I've been supporting Vons and Pavilions for decades and have a particular affinity for their chicken tenders which remind me of my rough and tumble teenage years when I would walk to Pavilions after school with the football team and order the tenders from the hot foods section. It apparently needs to be constitutionally protected right in America to receive free dipping sauce with chicken tenders (colloquially known as "chicken fingers" or "chicken nuggets"). Sauce and tenders go together like syrup and waffles. Both waffles and tenders are dry foods that require a sauce to be enjoyed properly without injury to the mouth and/or throat. Walk into any American establishment selling chicken tenders or colloquial equivalents and ask you will be asked what kind(s) of sauce(s) you would like to be INCLUDED (gratis) with your order. BUT NOT AT VONS! Now, historically, your purchase of chicken tenders at Vons/Pavilions INCLUDED an unlimited amount of free dipping sauces including bbq, ranch, and honey mustard. Several years ago, Vons/Pavilions was acquired by a larger grocery chain. At some point subsequent to this acquisition, some un-American (probably Vegan, divorced, embittered, cat-lady, royal POS) human in the grocery conglomerate made the decision to eliminate free sauces DOWN TO THE KETCHUP! Instead, they now want you to purchase dipping sauces at a rate of $.60 ea. I refuse to pay. As long as I give Vons my business for chicken tenders, I demand free sauce. The most absurd part of this whole thing is that adjacent to the hot foods sections of Vons grocery stores, they have a sandwich station. Sandwiches include.... you guessed it.... free sauce. Sauce options include: ranch, honey mustard, BBQ, and other sauces that are traditionally reserved for chicken tenders and infrequently applied to sandwiches. The cost of sandwiches is often equivalent to the cost of my chicken tender purchases, yet sauce is not included with the dry tenders. To circumvent this absolute insanity, I have developed a system where I ask the prepared foods employes to provide my chicken in a tri-compartment box in lieu of a bag and to squirt my desired dipping sauces into the smaller compartments. One day, at the Beverly Hills location, I got pushback from the prepared foods employees and decided to complain to corporate. Later the same day, I got a call back from the GM of the Beverly Hills location who said I'd never have another problem getting free sauce again. I've visited other locations (National Blvd,. etc.) and have never had my sauce request questioned. But this review is for the PCH location. My brother and I began frequenting this location this summer after bodysurfing at nearby beaches. In the beginning, we experienced pushback from employees who said that they were "not supposed" to provide free sauce and insisted that we purchase sauce. I will not ever purchase sauce for tenders on principle. Nope. Never. So we got management involved at that location and received not only free sauce but complete refunds on our chicken tenders for dealing with their aggressively sauce-retentive employees, not once, but twice. This "Sauce Guardian" gang is really gung-ho about protecting the most precious resource of the major grocery conglomerate that employs them, the sauce in squirt bottles that they are only authorized to apply to sandwiches. Today was the third and most egregious occasion of employee pushback and the straw that broke the camel's back prompting this review. We visited the store and were finishing up our order (an employee we'd butted heads with previously was providing us with sauce with no issue) when the prepared foods manager, Yvette, walked up and queried this employee as to what she was doing. The employee stated, "this is that guy I told you about." Yvette faced me and said, "sir, next time you'll need to purchase sauce," to which I replied "No, I won't. I'll never purchase sauce. I've cleared this with corporate and your onsite management." She retorted that she was the manager of that section and that her word is law. Remembering that I am a valued long-time customer and don't need to take shit from any Vons employee, I walked away and enjoyed my meal on the lovely outdoor patio. Incensed by my encounter with Yvette and her conduct therein, I walked back into the store and encountered the supervisor who had previously refunded my orders and reprimanded the prepared foods staff. I asked her the name of the prepared foods manager and she provided it. She asked what had happened and I told her. She stated.. "she's a manager too, she should know better, she should have been chill with you." TLDR: SAUCE MUST REMAIN FREE! read more

UNVELIEVABLY BAD SERVICE. Truly awful. Waited at the fish bar area for 10 minutes with nobody behind the counter except for a man cutting meat. I politely asked him to get me some shrimp, assuming it was his job to do so as he was the only person behind the counter. The man proceeded to walk toward the fish counter, visibly irritated and appalled that I had the audacity to ask for help. With the attitude of a 6 year old that was told to clean his room before playing outside, one by one he counted each number of shrimp with a mocking and condescending tone. Not only that, but he used the same gloves that he was handling the meat with to grab the shrimp out of the shrimp basket. All in all it was the worst experience at a grocery store I've had since I was 5 and thought that I lost my mom in the produce section. Perfect location for me as I turn on Sunset to head to my brother's house in Pacific Palisades. Not the best in selection but great for such a small town vibe that you get in the area. Right across from the beach for those of you who want to pick up items for your beach picnic! Just enough parking to find a spot on one go around but not enough for a very busy summer day. This place looks great!!! It used to have a pretty neat 1950s grocery store feel to it, BUT that means it looked really old (for a store). Now it looks great. I agree with Corrina S. They added a pretty nice selection of wine and beer; getting into Bevmo territory. I found something there last night that I have searched around time for quite a while. I was happy to find my long lost beer friend. :) No 5th star because I was waiting to meet someone there and I sat on the patio outside the Starbucks. There were, at any time, between 2-5 employees out there on their smoke break (tacky) dropping F bombs all over the place. Poor quality in every sense of the word. Ruins the amazing location. Food is often expired and they run out of items like no grocery store I've ever seen. The other day they were out of lemons. LEMONS. As if that wasn't enough, they've recently hired a security guard to "patrol" the parking lot. He hassles everyone as they get out of their car badgering them about where they're going an how long they're going to be. This is a grocery store. MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATES because they sell milk and eggs and many other products that are expired. Especially the "managers special" There's a Starbucks inside, which is very nice. Overall employees are nice and helpful. I'm not sure what management is trying to do with the new parking overkill. Hello, I hadn't shopped at Vons in a really long time and I was so pleasantly surprised by my experience today. The store was so neat and clean. There were also lots of my favorite brands and beautiful fresh veggies and fruit at amazing prices. I never right reviews because I don't have the time to do so but one of the employees helped me so much, his name was Norman S. not only did he help me to my car with groceries and a baby he also patiently waited for me when my key fob battery needed to be changed because it decided to stop working right then. He went inside and helped me take out the new battery and he was just so patient and caring. The location of this store is in a very busy area right off of PCH and Sunset and if it wasn't for this amazing employee I don't know what I would have done. I do like this store, I like the prices, I like the parking. Unfortunately, the staff here have ruined my entire experience and others that I have spoken to. I've been checked out by a taller white lady at register who was more concerned with her phone than her job. I ordered at the deli the other day and the African American guy working did not say an entire thing to me and just glared as he got my item. And my friend was actually screamed at by a guy in the meat department named Robert. You can't run a good business if your staff is going to act like that. Managers need to mentor, develop and observe their staff here. It's quite awful to the customer's experience. read more

On December 26 a friend of mine and myself visited the Vons market on Pacific Coast Highway and tapanga there was a misunderstanding and one of the employees of Vons physically attacked us as we were leaving the store she took our basket from of physically attacked me and then physically attacked my friend and caused a lynch mob to form a round our car and not allowing us to leave with the patrons of the store as wellThe other employees they helped us there for two hours verbally attacking us and trying to physically attacked us opportunity to have a weapon in my waistband in order to cause them to back off nonetheless that was the worst experience I have ever had a visit that area to celebrate my birthday and Christmas but I will never return to that location they are racist and hateful and biased because we don't nothing wrong and the entire store attacked us and when I called to try to resolve the issue they were very biased and negative towards me I am seeking a lawsuit as we speak if you're an African-American person to not go to the store even the African Americans that work there tried to attack us read more

I have to say after reading the poor reviews I am stunned. I have had nothing but great experiences at this Palisades Vons. I saw the misleading post and video of the men and the mob seen and the post of a women regarding racism. What they left out of their misleading mob post is that they work for a company that delivers food that is ordered online and were being belligerent to the manager and other employees at the store and HIT THE MANAGER IN THE FACE. The crowd was only there trying to protect the employees from the two men, one of which had a weapon as he states in his post. They have since been fired for their drug use and behavior from the delivery company. The great employees, Tim, Jose, Maya, security and management especially the manager Desiree have always been courteous and helpful while always trying to protect themselves, and the patrons from the misguided people and homeless population that we all deal with everyday that come into the store. Unfortunately, from what i have seen, Vons policy is to let the homeless and mentally ill patrons steal and act any way they please with no intervention from security or management. They are more worried about a lawsuit than their patrons or personnel. I commend the employees at the Palisades Vons for their hard courteous work ethic and will continue to shop there regardless of poor reviews of a few people. While enroute to Malibu, I stopped by to purchase a few items. I was at the checkout when the cashier informed me that I was one item over the limit for the express lane. My error, I apologized. He informed that I would have to take my items to the proper lane. I looked around, no customers were behind and no customers were in the express lane. WTF? I complied. After reading some of the other reviews here, perhaps the employees are simply indifferent towards their jobs and customers suffer. read more
