This is a funny grocery store. It's usually been an older crowd that's wanted whatever health products were popular 10-20 years ago. At one point during the late 90's and early 00's, it was tremendously popular with the celebrity class of LA, and it was Erewhon before there was Erewhon. It has since drifted into a more relaxed, slightly frumpier incarnation now in 2026. As you can see from all the 1 and 5 star reviews, it's a place that inspires both stubborn loyalty and intense frustration in equal measure, and I think that about sums up experience for the uninitiated. You'll see that I've split the difference with this 3 star review in an attempt to capture reality. This is far from a perfect grocery store -- the prices are high, a lot of the produce is not looking so good, the milk is always about to expire, the aisles are poorly organized, they're missing lots of things you want. But it's also a real co-op and not a chain, it's possible to eat healthfully from here, and they are extremely responsive to their member's (numerously and frequently delusional and extremely SaMo) requests. The angry reviews about bad service here are overblown; I've been here dozens of times and never had a problem. And as long as it's member-owned, it can always change for the better very quickly, which I've seen happen here before, and may happen again. Personally, my reason for not shopping here is just the poor organization of the store overall, selection of dry goods which are widely second-rate to me, and shabby, soon-to-be-expiring produce and perishables attached to a luxury price. I see no reason to shop here when I have the SaMo farmer's market AND better organized specialty stores like Erehwon or McCall's right near by -- which are, despite what numerous reviews here desperately proclaim, the exact same price point as Co-Opportunity. I hope this clears up why the reviews here are all-over-the-place, it's because the store is too!

Why can't they do this in the early morning and evening instead of during lunch hour? And of course like I mentioned no matter when I go there they're doing it. And sometimes the two people that are supposed to be unloading the merchandise are just standing there talking to each other. So that takes up more room with two bodies standing there where it's literally where I can't maneuver or move and then the other customers are trying to maneuver and move through this maze as well. It makes me not want to shop there because it's a lot of stress just to be able to maneuver and squeeze around these crates and then the to employees that are supposed to unpack those or just standing there and talking. If any of the managers get this could you please do something about this? Otherwise you'll lose a customer. And probably other customers as well. There is ample parking and it really is the only place around where you can buy supermarket basics at reasonable prices. From the security guard to cashiers, the entire team is really unfriendly. It seems as if they are all overworked and exhausted. When an entire store is like this, one has to consider that the problem is very likely to be a result of poor corporate policy and store management. But the service at this Vons is terrible…read more The only place I need assistance in a grocery store is the deli..and this is the worst deli I ever had to visit. 1- After 7pm, the deli is closed.. 2-regulary sell-out of meals on special by 5pm; instead of preparing more meals to be available. 3-the workers are usually MIA in the deli and you have to wait 5-10 minutes for someone to just show up. 4-will serve you an old batch of Chicken instead of the fresh batch.. 5-wokers always have a frown when you ask for assistance. FYI- Just visit the new Vons location at 710 Broadway. They always have everything in stock. Workers are much more polite. I'll preferably be walking 10 extra blocks to avoid this horrible location. The produce department always has the freshest seasonal fruits and vegetables. The meat department is beautiful. Always excellent choices available.
