Last week I went to the poultry section of this Vons and most of the racks were empty so I could see the bottom of the racks. It really look disgusting there was blood mixed with mold. I showed it to an employee in that section who gave me a lame excuse. I took some pictures and then I spoke to a female supervisor whom I showed the pictures and she immediately apologized and said she'd take care of it. I come here as it is my local VONS. Mostly for the meat department as I pick up bits and pieces here and there for my dog. The location is clean and the staff that I have encountered are always friendly. It is not a huge store, but it has probably everything that you need. read more

Thinking it was a Von's located in Santa Monica, it would live up to its standards, as the Von's in Hermosa Beach & Westchester does. It doesn't. Some of the items are decent, some I've seen here, I don't see in other stores. It does bother me that I've gone back several times & they didn't have any blueberry scones, but an abundance of Lemon Poppyseed. Ewwww, no thank you. The customer service isn't great. The whole store layout is confusing and poorly designed. I can imagine what a nightmare it must be when it's weekday rush hour or on holidays - I was there briefly on New Years Eve and it was crazy. The people: Right on cue!! Rude!! A vast group of sad individuals - reminds me of that annoying boy on the Geico commercial, you just want to smack him! Same thought crosses my mind every time I have to venture into "the big city". These people are grown ass adults who obviously have no clue how to treat people or react in situations in public. To the lady that day I went on New Years Eve - there's a thing called "Invading personal space & space boundary" you really should look it up & exercise using it. Didn't enjoy your personal scent of whatever it was you were drenched in that day, nor did I enjoy feeling hairs on the back of neck standing out fear, from the warmth your nostrils breathing on them. Yes, it was that close to me. Impatience perhaps? Even though other checkouts open. Chucks, the people at Goodwill (from observation, they were loaded - lots of BMW's & Lexus in the parking lot that day) surprisingly had much better manners & you didn't feel the stench in the air. Brrrr. This is the coldest Von's I've ever stepped in. Talk about a chill fear factor. The cashiers all wore layers & jackets. I asked them why it was so cold. They said it's been like that since they remodeled. Something about being surrounded by cold cases. Honestly, I thought maybe their heater broke. It must have been around 60 degrees in this store. Maybe even colder than 60. Good thing the cashiers here have warm hearts & jolly spirits. I don't like the dim lighting. I don't care for the short, packed aisles either. The good news is, the lines moved fast. Plus, there was plenty of parking. Next time I am donning my jacket & hat before entering. This has got to be my least favorite grocery store in the area. When I need some relief from the heat in the summertime, I know where to stop in. read more

In an area witb Whole Foods and Erewhon, Vons provides a decent supermarket on the westside with low prices and enough variety. While it may lack the fancy decor and feel, Vons here has plenty of parking, good options, and a Redbox and coin copier. read more

The absolute worst. They NEVER have diet tonic water out, even though it is on sale all of the time. I have complained repeatedly so occasionally the will put out 2 bottles. Their employees are very unhelpful I never shop there any more, even though it is the most convenient for me. read more

I must agree with some of these yelpers the lines are ALWAYS long. It seems that they never open more than 2 registers. It gets kind off frustrating when I go during lunch time to get something quick to eat but half of my time is gone just waiting in line. I really don't know why they wouldn't just open another register when there's about 4 of them empty! I did give this place 3 stars because the employees are very friendly. They great you as you walk up and make you feel comfortable. The place is pretty clean and easy to find your way around. And the sales are great also. This review is for the Starbucks inside. While this Vons is a total dump Samantha is a totally bomb barista. Always a smile on her face and she even remembers your name. She makes my daily cup of coffee much more enjoyable. She is awesome! read more

This place is depressing. The checkers are lifeless, worn out and harried. It's a small store with tight aisles. They are limited in the variety of what they sell. The deli odor as you come in the door is unappetizing and doesn't make for a warm a welcoming experience. There's a general malaise about the place. read more

I often stop by this Vons to buy odds and ends. I won't do major shopping here as there are many things wrong. First, the selection of goods. Second, the seemingly high prices. Third, the really bad Deli Department. I want to address the Deli. The quality of the meats and other offerings is poor say compared to Ralph's. The hot prepared foods can be good when they are properly prepared however this store has no quality control. It is like playing Roulette when you buy their fried chicken. You spin the wheel and take your chances. The other day I bought 8 pieces of fried chicken. It was horribly overcooked. The meat was so dry. The breading was on the burnt side. The breading was so overcooked that it was hard as a rock. Was also way too salty bordering on uneatable. Over and over the basics of managing a food store seem to elude this facility. If there was ever a grocery store in desperate need of a few self-checkout stations, it would be this one. I came here last Sunday evening just to buy a carton of milk and the checkout lines were so abysmal I decided to instead walk an extra 3/4 of a mile to a different store. That's how much I didn't want to stand in one of those lines. The selection itself is fine, it's a good sized grocery store and you can find pretty much whatever you need. The paper towel section is weirdly limited but other than that it's fine. Tip: even if you're only going to shop here once or twice, get the customer card. You can link your phone number so you don't actually have to carry a physical card. Their prices are designed in a way that they're really only reasonable if you get the "customer discount". I will say, every person I've spoken to at this store including the cashiers have been really nice and pleasant. Maybe I've just been lucky. read more

The security at this store is appalling. There are always people ranting, raving, causing scenes - I nearly got run over by a woman on a rascal scooter who was furious at me for no reason. The manager said it was the second time that month she'd done that. I see shoplifting every single time I'm there, yet the security guard follows me around instead of addressing the theft and aggressive behavior. Employees say they feel unsafe - INSIDE THE STORE. While not my regular store, the convenience of this Vons is what draws me here. Park in one lot, and hit up Rite Aid, See's (across the street), and then groceries. There's a great greeting card section (Papyrus cards aplenty!), and a nice beer and wine selection. It's household-multi-task handy. This past week I was delighted by the resident Produce person. As Vons is a sister store to Pavillions, I inquired about a particular kind of mango seen at a nearby Pavillions. The helpful Produce fellow showed me a few other varieties they stocked, pointing out a small, yellow variety he said had a great flavor. And then he picked one up, pulled a small paring knife out, and cut me off a piece of the mango to try. I was surprised, and best of all, the fruit was so good! I would have never tried that variety if he hadn't given me a sample. I bought three! Points to the Produce person for their great customer service! I read all the negative reviews here and I have a solution to help these people. They need to go to the counter where Gillian works and order anything. This young woman was so friendly, professional, and caring about what I needed that I felt I would come to the store over any other. I usually shop at Whole Foods down the street, too! Hey other reviewer's, go to her counter and just asked to say hello to Gillian even if you don't need to buy anything. You'll be thrilled with how wonderful a person she is and you'll have a whole new view of how great the store can be. read more

This review is for the bakery department. My friend Lynn Fallon went to get me a 21st birthday cake, and wanted to be something special because my family doesn't normally celebrate birthdays. Mila, a baker there, was so sweet and enthusiastic about my first birthday cake that she went ABOVE AND BEYOND and got the whole baking staff excited about doing a great job for me, even Briana the store manager wanted to make sure the cake was great. They specifically researched a Boston cream pie cake (a cake that has significance to me) and lavishly decorated my cake with buttercream frosting and pink and yellow roses. I'm torn about this Vons. On the negative nelly side, it's kind of dumpy and fumpy looking inside, the place doesn't seem to have been remodeled since the 80s, and I usually spot one or two questionable people wandering the aisles that I have to avoid. On the other hand, it's walking distance from my apartment, there's usually plenty of parking for the times that I do park, and most importantly, the service here has always been really great. I'm talking, just wandering down the aisle and having at least two employees ask if they can help me find anything, and the cashier asking me how my day is going and trying to guess what I'm going to make with the groceries I'm buying. I really don't expect that kind of service in these big chain stores and although I'm shallow and enjoy shopping in an attractive environment, in this case brains and personality win over beauty. Plus, they have a deli and a Starbucks. But I swear the personality thing is what really won me over. read more

I occasionally patronize this Vons out of convenience, when I happen to be driving by and need some milk or something. But on the last few occasions, I've been sorry I bothered. This Vons boasts the longest checkout lines I've ever seen at any major urban supermarket. There are three primary factors at play: 1. Not enough staff at the checkout. 2. No self-check stations (unlike at the Lincoln Vons location, or most Ralphs markets); and 3. A poor front-of-store design, where the space between the end of aisles and checkout lanes - what should be the "main thoroughfare" of any supermarket - is only a couple of feet wide. On this past weekend, in mid-afternoon, I dropped by to grab four cans of cat food. At a normal supermarket, I would have been able to dash in and out... either by going to a self-serve lane, or by choosing an Express lane. No such luck here on either count. As I headed to the register, my heart sank with the same feeling you get when you've been tooling right along on the freeway, then suddenly traffic slams to a dead stop. To continue the traffic analogy: I was dismayed to see a 20-cart pile-up at the (only) two open registers, to the point where people were feeding back into several aisles because there was simply no space left between the aisle endcaps and the registers. It was total chaos, because no one could tell where one line began and the other ended. After about thirty seconds of surveying this carnage, I decided that my cat would make do without wet cat food for another 12 hours. I dropped my basket back in the cat food aisle, spun on my heel, and left the store without buying anything. I wonder how many other shoppers have been so turned off by the insane pile-up at the registers that they have abandoned their purchases and left? read more

FAQ Q: Two-stars for your local Vons? That's pretty harsh, isn't it? A: Well, you hurt the ones you love. I love this Vons and I love the people there, but it's really not that great. The Vons down on Lincoln and Broadway (near Swingers) is bigger, has more selection, and a larger fresh food sections. Q: Didn't they do a big renovation in there? A: Indeed! It was alright. This is the Von's that my husband and I normally shop in when we are visiting my parents in Santa Monica. Usually I don't have any issues here, but this past Friday we (myself, my husband, and my brother) went in to buy some items including beer. My husband and I are both 28 and my brother is 25, so we are not used to getting any issues about buying alcohol. As we were checking out, a cashier asked my brother for his ID (no problem there), but then, after scrutinizing his ID for a good long minute, she decided to start quizzing him about the info on his ID. It was recently his birthday, so he said: "I'm 24. I mean, 25, sorry." She then muttered: "You have a lot of growing up to do" under her breath. We were all offended, and I mentioned softly to my husband that this was ridiculous. The cashier said: "If you have something to say about me, why don't you say it to my face?" We were all shocked and appalled at her "lack of customer service skills" to say the least. When my husband said: "Can you please call a manager," she replied: "No. Go get him yourself." We were so surprised and flustered by her rude behavior that we went and told a manager who simply said "I'm sorry about that" but little else. I might add that the other employees working that day were actually quite helpful and nice. But needless to say, my husband and I will never step into this Von's again. read more

Despite its Wilshire address, this store is very dirty and poorly managed. The staff seems to have come from the DMV in terms of regard for their customers. The exterior of the store is filthy and usually there are people panhandling at each exit. Will not shop there again. read more

I've dropped by this Vons countless times at night and wasted about half of my life waiting in line because there is usually only one cash register open (should've learned my first time waiting, but I kept going back thinking things would change up in this Vons, but what was I thinking?!) ... and the other store clerks just kinda roam around the store thinking it's totally acceptable for their customers to waste their life in Vons just like they do themselves! So if you're in a rush to grab a case of beer and rush home to watch football or play beer pong? Count on being home AFTER the game/fun has ended. I normally don't bother reviewing grocery stores, but the lines here are so absurd all the time that I feel like I need to warn others. No matter when you come here, the checkout lines are always ridiculously long. I've stopped by a few times for a "quick" shopping trip, only to realize that it would be faster for me to drive all the way to Ralph's to get what I need. People who work here are super nice. One of them confided that she is nice to everyone in case they are an angel. She said you never know who the angels are..... I think I might be mean to everyone so that the angels would reveal themselves. Which is probably why I don't work at Von's....not nice enough. I visit this location often, mainly because it is very close by. The fresh food aisle is decent (consistently good apples). You can always find parking. A few long term employees are friendly. In general though, moral at the store is very poor. The anomie is palpable. If you visit late at night, you may leave needing Prozac. Worst Vons ever!!! The lines are always so long, and every cashier I've ever had there is SO SLOW. This is the closest grocery store to my home, walking distance, so I always go here, but I'm getting sick of how slow the checkout is. Also, they always have all express checkouts open, and only 1 regular. They really need to get self-checkout. I might start driving to other grocery stores farther away because this one is so terrible. Update: I just waited in line forever. All the express lanes were open and only 1 regular line with at least 7 people waiting. While ringing up my groceries the bagger was talking gossip the entire time to the cashier while I loaded my own cart. The cashiers and baggers are all awful every single time. I have never had a good experience and I go to this Von's average 5 times a week. The employees have attitude, and need to learn some customer service. Very unorganized.. I typically love Von's but I went to this one for the first time, it was less than satisfactory... There were no workers around the store to ask for assistance and only one cashier. The line was ridiculous. I needed assistance finding a hair product so I waited in like to ask the one cashier where I could find it and she told me she wasn't sure... What!?!? And then she called to the other worker to open another register because she was getting overwhelmed. The other lady reluctantly responded and walked over to the express register. However, she hardly made a difference with the line because of how slow she was going. & this was the express line, too! Came in to ask about getting a money gram. And the supervisor says he doesn't then says wait. Then takes 3 mins to chat and hand out papers while I'm waiting. The Asst. Supervisor comes around and also goes not greet or anything but flirts with his employees. And the the Indian supervisor finally talks to a checker and still waiting. She finally comes over and does not greet or anything asks for my number. I told her I love their customer service here. And the Supervisor decides to be a smartass. I used to shop here all the time. One day I was over charged on a loaf of bread. The store policy is to give you the item for free. I was dealt with hostility from a female stare manager, and was not offered a compensation at the very least for the difference. Long story short I was calm and courteous and was told by corporate that I shouldn't shop at Vons or Safeway anymore. Since then I have only shopped at Ralphs and Whole Foods. Anyway, I get great service at both stores. They even bend over backwards to accommodate. I was at Whole Foods today looking for a veggie sampler. They didn't have any available on the shelves but they went in back and made me up one from scratch. At Ralphs if I am looking for lobster tails and they don't have any on ice they will go to the freezer in back and get me a few. Shop at Ralphs and Whole Foods. Avoid Pavilions, CVS and Vons at all cost. read more
