    Deli sucks
    Jill M.

UGH. I hate this place and now that Rite Aid next door is closing it won't be "closest in the area" for something. I literally would only go in if I was next door and needed a quick pick up for something. Well, every single time I would try to get something at the deli counter they were rude and I walked away. HOW DARN HARD IS IT TO JUST DO A JOB AND NOT BE RUDE. It seems to me that Vons corporate must be transferring unhappy employees they can't terminate to this location or something because when I would ask help finding something only 1 out of 10 times were they nice about it. I'm one of those people who is super nice when asking for help because I was in retail for many decades. I know how it is on the other end so it's not me, it's them. This place sucks.

    Damaged gift card

Sold me a gift card that was damaged. Noticed it right when I got in the car. Tell me to call the back of the card, nothing they can do. Completely scammed me out of $25. Terrible costumer service.

Everything in your store is expired. Wtf?? Is going on. Three salads. The hummus. Do you not check the dates and replace the inventory. Just looked at the lunch meat I bought yesterday, 12/22/24. It says sell by 12/17/24. Never coming back to this store. Everything is expired.

It's your average grocery store. They have everything you need. There is a parking lot so you don't have to park in a garage which is awesome so five stars for this area! The staff is friendly, the produce is fresh and the store is well lit and clean.

Wanted to update my previous review and raise my rating to them since they are practicing all the Covid -19 regulations very well. All employees are wearing masks, carts and shopping baskets are getting clean and sanitize. The lines are moving much quicker now. You have to wait for the cashier to call you, and sometimes there is a person who is managing the line. All the employees here are nice except for the one guy who is working in the meat counter. I asked him for one pound of salmon fish, he refused to give me any service, saying that I can get it pre-packed from the open air refrigeration (those units lacking doors). Same thing happened to my husband with the same employee. He refused to do his job and cut some fish for us.

I've been shopping here for over two years, and this review is long overdue. My biggest complaint in the past was the lack of cell service due to the store being located in the basement. It was frustrating not being able to text or call my wife to check what we already had in the fridge, which often led to overbuying--though that's never really a problem at TJ's since everything is so delicious. The great news is that they now have Wi-Fi, which is a total game changer for this location! I'm a huge fan of their sheet cakes; I always pick one up to share with my co-workers. Trader Joe's consistently delivers quality products, and on the rare occasion I've had an item go bad before opening, the staff has been incredibly helpful and happy to exchange it. The team here is friendly, efficient, and always provides a great shopping experience.

It's so easy to get in and out, and since I temporarily live a 1/2 block away, it's especially convenient for me. This Santa Monica Trader Joe's is easily one of my favorites. The store is clean, well organized, and easy to navigate, with everything you'd expect -- pantry staples, fresh produce, and their famously affordable (and beautiful) flowers. What makes ALL Trader Joe's locations stand out, though, is their staff. The teams are always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and they make every visit pleasant. The only downsides are: 1. The store is underground, there's basically no mobile service inside -- so definitely screenshot your shopping list before you go in. This makes looking up recipes impossible. They need to get store wifi for customers, like Vons. 2. It's a bit smaller than most other TJ's, but it still covers most of what I need. And if they don't have something, there's a newly opened Vons just two blocks up Broadway. Overall, this is a gem of a store in a fantastic location -- truly one of the best grocery spots in Santa Monica.

It's usually been an older crowd that's wanted whatever health products were popular 10-20 years ago. At one point during the late 90's and early 00's, it was tremendously popular with the celebrity class of LA, and it was Erewhon before there was Erewhon. It has since drifted into a more relaxed, slightly frumpier incarnation now in 2026. As you can see from all the 1 and 5 star reviews, it's a place that inspires both stubborn loyalty and intense frustration in equal measure, and I think that about sums up experience for the uninitiated. You'll see that I've split the difference with this 3 star review in an attempt to capture reality. This is far from a perfect grocery store -- the prices are high, a lot of the produce is not looking so good, the milk is always about to expire, the aisles are poorly organized, they're missing lots of things you want. But it's also a real co-op and not a chain, it's possible to eat healthfully from here, and they are extremely responsive to their member's (numerously and frequently delusional and extremely SaMo) requests. The angry reviews about bad service here are overblown; I've been here dozens of times and never had a problem. And as long as it's member-owned, it can always change for the better very quickly, which I've seen happen here before, and may happen again. Personally, my reason for not shopping here is just the poor organization of the store overall, selection of dry goods which are widely second-rate to me, and shabby, soon-to-be-expiring produce and perishables attached to a luxury price. I see no reason to shop here when I have the SaMo farmer's market AND better organized specialty stores like Erehwon or McCall's right near by -- which are, despite what numerous reviews here desperately proclaim, the exact same price point as Co-Opportunity. I hope this clears up why the reviews here are all-over-the-place, it's because the store is too!

While waiting, I wandered to the hot bar -- also overpriced, but honestly delicious with tons of options. Way better than any Barons, Whole Foods, or Lazy Acres hot bar I've tried. The store carries lots of unique brands and has a huge beauty/skincare/supplement section. There's even someone at the front greeting people and offering samples. Outside, there's a patio for eating. Overall, it's a cool experience -- definitely overpriced, but fun to check out at least once. And it's in a lovely area, which makes the stop even better.

Sometimes they have an attitude. Sometimes they're better. Excuse me? I came here to shop and there's four different crates there. Why can't they do this in the early morning and evening instead of during lunch hour? And of course like I mentioned no matter when I go there they're doing it. And sometimes the two people that are supposed to be unloading the merchandise are just standing there talking to each other. So that takes up more room with two bodies standing there where it's literally where I can't maneuver or move and then the other customers are trying to maneuver and move through this maze as well. It makes me not want to shop there because it's a lot of stress just to be able to maneuver and squeeze around these crates and then the to employees that are supposed to unpack those or just standing there and talking. If any of the managers get this could you please do something about this? Otherwise you'll lose a customer. And probably other customers as well. They've got a nice butcher section with fresh meat and seafood. There's a deli case with close to 20 items -- ribs, chicken, lasagna, mac 'n cheese, soup and more, depending on the day. They've got about a dozen salads, including three potato salads, and about as many deli meats for sandwiches. The beef stew was excellent, the lasagna, chili and meatloaf also very good. The sandwiches are solid and very reasonably priced. Two things stand out for me here: their weekend barbecue and the tamales. Someone in their kitchen makes delicious Oaxacan tamales (which are not always available). These tamales are chock full of chicken mole -- perhaps the highest ratio of filling to masa that I've had -- and are neatly wrapped in banana leaves. The burritos are similarly pre-made and stuffed to the gills with the protein of the day. As for the weekend barbecue, every Saturday and Sunday morning they grill select meats from the deli (prime steaks, tri tip, chicken, etc) which you can buy throughout the day at the deli. The Farms also has fresh vegetables, premade salads and all the other items you'd expect from a neighborhood grocery store. Service is super friendly, and there's free parking in back. It's definitely a good spot for a meal to go.
