Weekend grill menu

Shop locally! Great produce! Bargains to be found on almost everything! I love their persian cucumbers and other produce. I love their deli department, but most buy their feta cheese. They also have readymade salads such as tabouli or chopped Mediterranean salad. I also love their Digestive cookies! On the weekends they have a BBQ on their back lot parking lot. One serving of their grilled chicken is enough for 2 people! Enter from the back parking lot. Free parking in the back, enter from the alley or on 15th St, north of Wilshire.

Lamb chops - marinated for 3 days. You can purchase them already cooked on the weekend, OR you can bring them home to grill. DELICIOUS

This place is a treasure. Need baharat? They have it. Sumac? Citric acid? They've got it. Incredible tadziki. They have all kinds of spices, syrups, teas, salads, and breads that make you feel at home - no matter which "Middle Eastern" cuisine you are homesick for. Don't forget to stock up on their perfect "Persian" cucumbers.

Grill Master Tehran Market Weekend Wonderful

Tehran Market's weekend outdoor barbecue in the parking lot behind the Market, (Sat-Sun, approx. 11:30 AM-4:00 PM) is a total neighborhood secret. It's not advertised, yet somehow always packed during prime hours--and for very good reason. I know this sounds a little nutty, but this Mediterranean outdoor parking lot grill is off-the-charts outstanding. It's such a fun, delicious experience--like eating truly fabulous street food. The quality is superb. Food immaculate, always fresh, and superb. Here's how it works: you order inside at the cash register, grab your drinks from the refrigerated section of the small market (the black currant soda is the best ever), and do not skip picking up the pre-made tzatziki yogurt-cucumber container from the dairy section. Add it to your plate for the perfect creamy, smoky, pickley flavor combo. Then you take your prepaid ticket outside and hand it to the grill masters. While you're waiting for your meats to grill, some sweet man, comes around and hands out gently salted, crispy fresh Persian cucumber. Perfect palate cleanser and wake-up). Crunch away fellow eaters. Every plate comes with huge portions of grilled veggies (tomatoes, onions, peppers), pickled everything, fresh herbs, and your kebab choice. Grill options include chicken kebab (light or dark meat), lamb chops, grilled beef, ground beef, and Cornish game hen. You get one skewer of meat per plate--but trust me, that skewer is generous enough to leave you with leftovers for the next day. Price isn't cheap, but it's fair for the quality and portion size. The ambience? Beyond rustic. This is happening in a parking lot behind the market. Plastic tables. Paper towels. No plates. Tiny napkins. The food is so good and the experience so fun that we now bring our own picnic supplies--plates, forks, knives, towels. You sit at communal tables with fellow wish-travelers, surrounded by the smell of smoky grilled meats, and dig in when your paper number is called. (Remember to tip the hard working, expert, grill masters). Pro tip: Ask for the grilled flatbread on top. If it's wrapped around the kebab, it gets soggy. This is not for the faint of heart. It's messy. It's not fancy. It's wildly addictive. Incredible food, great energy, and one of the most fun eating experiences around. We can't seem to stay away on weekends. Bonus: run back into the market afterward for fresh mint and herbs, cold plump dates, and other treats if you have time. Hidden gem. Full stop.

We went into this market with the intention of grabbing a quick lunch, and while the food took a while to make, it was worth the wait. The beef and chicken kabob plates that we ordered came with much more food than anticipated. We waited over 20 mins but the kabobs were being freshly cooked, so again, worth the wait. The very nice man who helped us gave us the tip to call ahead of time so we don't have to wait as long! The market is also very well stocked and clean.

Came to a weekend cookout in the back of this Persian grocery store!   A hungry crowd stood around waiting for chargrilled skewers of meat and veggies. There's options of your typical proteins and not-so-typical ones, like kidney, liver, and heart kabobs. Our tray of beef, chicken, and salmon skewers came with whole roasted tomatoes, bell peppers, and bread - super filling for the 3 of us.  The wait can be quite long, so I went inside the store to explore. It's a clean space with lots of specialty baked goods, produce, and spices. Thinking back, I wish I had bought the Rosewater & Saffron ice cream bucket!

At checkout, I selected the pick-up option, with confirmation that my order would be ready at 2:00 PM. When I arrived, I found a location with no signage and no clear indication I was in the right place. I knocked on the front door -- no answer. Went around back, found another door behind a screen -- still no answer. I called them over 25 times during this ordeal. Nothing. It was nearly 90 degrees, and I waited outside for over 30 minutes with zero communication. Out of desperation, I finally yelled into the screen door. Three people inside finally looked up. I asked if I was in the right place for pickup, and they casually said yes -- apparently, no one had been answering the phone because it goes to the owner, who was on vacation. Really? To top it off, my order wasn't even ready. They had to go pack it on the spot. I'll give credit where it's due: the quality of the items was good for the price, but the entire experience was chaotic and incredibly unprofessional. Definitely not returning. If you care about customer service or a smooth experience, look elsewhere.

The market is fully stocked with all shelves full...maybe over full, as I noticed many items were expired or past their recommended shelf life. Fruits and veggies were pretty fresh, though non-organic. Also, many varieties of spices and rare spicy. Great if you are looking for some hard to find spice for middle eastern, Mediterranean or Asian cuisines. I'm big on overall food freshness, so this is why I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place. If the packaged goods were expired on the shelf, not sure how many other products were aged. Can't tell age of spices, tea or anything else like that, so as Mich as I'd love to support small, local grocers...I just wouldn't come back:( Honestly, if they'd just clear their inventory of old things and keep it simple...they'd get customers like me, but I just can't trust a business that is so cheap, it will discount old things rather than get new ones.

I was in awe of its immaculate organization and the sashimi/sushi section where workers assembled sashimi on spot. Just as I pondered if I were in food heaven, revelation hit and brought me back to banality. At the juice section, my spidey sense told me we were stalked by an Asian mid-aged female employee (or supervisor) with impeccable make-up on her rigid face. She followed us around and made me feel uncomfortable. I figured out later due to its imprudent store layout which had Fresh Produce section right next to exit and on the opposite side of check out, they suspect every customer of shoplifting. Imagine discomfort and anxiousness merely being there. There were a few securities there construing the above-said shenanigans. Exactly who likes to be followed or policed while shopping? No wonder my kiddo avoided this place since the fatal car accident inside the store in February. Eerie Feng Shui and ominous energy.

I saw carrots for a good deal but overpriced peppers. As is commonly known, usually small markets have only higher prices for produce and kosher meat. In the deli/butcher section they have seasoned food ready to cook or grill. I like their hot Persian food sold by weight. The beef celery stew with dill is hearty and comforting. Further behind is the huge spices area, in small bags and large containers. Come get zatar, sumac or other spices from the Middle East here aplenty. However, it would be helpful if prices were all marked. Regarding service, I've found better customer service from female employees. One man who rang up my purchase was on his cell phone the whole time. He didn't stop or pause his conversation, no greeting or thank you and didn't even ask if I wanted a bag. He wasn't rude, just not attentive. There's a sizeable section of healthy snacks and a small case of fancy cakes.
